Young Adult dir. by Jason Reitman and written by Diablo Cody.
Super depressing on multiple levels. A well made film and I enjoyed it but there was just so much darkness in the movie that it becomes hard to even produce nervous laughter near the last 45 minutes of it. Charlize Theron continues to impress me, and I'm really enjoying Patrick Wilson as well.
Really great film. Definitely not a holiday movie. Should've been released at Halloween

Beauty of mine, sit before me. Let me peruse you and remember you... always like this.
Just saw the second Sherlock Holmes a couple days ago. If you liked the first one you'll like this one, and honestly I think the hate it's seeming to get is unwarranted.
Don't go in expecting high art. Go in expecting some good, well choreographed and creative action combined with a bit of thought and some nice visuals. Oh, and great but not exceptional acting.

Randomly chose TiMER from Netflix on Wii. It's a rom-com about having computers find your true love. Basically, it's Match.com but with a timer on your wrist telling you when you will see your soul mate for the first time. I give it a solid B.
Just finished The Shining. I'm really not sure how I feel about it yet. I think I would've liked it more if the supernatural elements were left more ambiguous to leave room for a more metaphorical interpretation of them.

I'd go in expecting a Ritchie movie, which is art in the same way Die Hard was. Is it or is it not?
I honestly haven't seen die hard (weird I know) but I wouldn't really call Sherlock Holmes 2 art in any form really, except for one scene in terms of cinematography I guess. And I like it more than most people who saw it, it seems.
Anyway I just watched Oldboy last night, had been meaning to for a while. Some really cool stuff in it, pretty damn good overall.

The chimp "Caesar" was amazing. Seriously, Oscar-worthy performance by a CGI animal.
As far as all the other characters, dialogue, sub plots, etc., they were horrendous.
I really haven't seen a movie that was so incredibly strong in some aspects and so lacking in others. Well, at least not since Avatar..

Tim Burton's ape movie was the same way, you look at the evil chimp general and it's like "this guy is freaking amazing." Then you look at the astronaut, and it's like "this guy sucks." Still think the evil chimp guy should play Hush against the newer Batman.

Maybe that's the trick. Make every aspect of the movie suck except the thing he wants you to remember. Unfortunately, it didn't work. My experience with the ape movie will always be marred by the glossy, obvious, banal material that surrounded an amazing character transcending the tension of his plight.
Caesar is like a diamond, glistening spectacular in a heaping pile of steaming Hollywood turds.
I watched the Captain America movie yesterday. I was not expecting much and was at least not disappointed. These live action comic films are getting a bit stale now.
Wow, I came into this thinking it was going to be a pretty cool survival movie carried by Liam Neeson's performance, but boy was I mistaken.
This movie is really deep and has fleshed out characters like you wouldn't believe. There are parts that make you cringe and your blood run thick. It's a potent movie in all aspects. Definitely worth the money.
Just saw Human Centipede 2 with two friends, a guy and a girl; the girl was in tears by the end. As opposed to the original, which I thought wasn't actually horribly made, this one was (in addition to being pretty gross). Some bits of subtlety here and there (the mentioning of Quentin Tarantino after a crotch shooting in the immediate previous scene, for example), but for what purpose, Mr. Six? Irony? Yes, we get it. Two thumbs down.
Koyaanisqatsi: a great feel and idea ruined somewhat by depthless activism. One thumb up, one thumb down.
It's so funny, but I was a child when I saw this movie. As such, I saw this one before the first one. I actually thought Arnold was a good guy from the beginning and missed the great plot twist that the original audience gets.

Even if the author is silenced, the performance is stopped, the story will not end.
Whether it's a comedy or a tragedy, if there is cheering, the story will continue on.
Just like the many lives.
For the us who are still in it and still in the journey, send warm blessings.
- We will continue to walk down this path until eternity.

Is it worth going to a theater for it?

Last movie I watched was Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Being honest I have never liked the series and only ended up watching it because my dad had control of the TV and I really didn't feel like giving up the couch >.<
Anyway the movie was ok I guess, I still can't see why people love this series so much. Seems they are trying to pitch Voldimort as the baddest of the bad and all his followers as some kind of elite evil group that can kill/control the strongest of wizards yet apparently catching/killing a group of 3 kids/teens has been completely out of their grasp in spite of having 1 or all 3 of them hostage, or in some kind of trap. Doesn't make them look scary or powerful just pathetically sad to be out witted by kids/teens as they have grown up.
This movie wasn't much different. Kids are running away but apparently Vold got info on them and came hunting them down only to fail...go fig, and then he ruins their wedding after killing the minister of magic, apparently killing the minister of magic is easy but again stopping a trio of teens from escaping a wedding that you surprise attacked is far to complicated. Then 2 of the wizards get bested in a slug out with them, only to see the teens do some under cover thing right into their base have the spell fail in the middle of said base...AND THEN ESCAPE RIGHT OUT THE FRONT DOOR...if that doesn't scream "I'm a pathetic villain/evil order" I don't know what else will. Honestly about the only thing I enjoyed was the actual story about how the Deathly Hollows came into being. I liked the cleverness of death in that story and how the humility of the 3rd brother paid off but I'm kind of a sucker for those types of stories.
As I said though I've never liked the series and I'm sure someone is going to come tell me a couple billion reasons why it's amazing, why I'm clueless, and blah blah blah *insert fanboyisms here* blah blah blah, but frankly it isn't going to change my opinion on it, there is really just nothing in this series that interest, appeals, or otherwise makes me respect it as a series.
Time Traveler's Wife (thought it was good in parts... Could've been way better)
Dinner for Schmucks (quite bad. Not funny at all... Tried to be too many things at the same time including "cute". Missed the whole opportunity of a really great premise. Want to see the original French movie now )

I saw that yesterday afternoon in a PACKED theater. Better than expected.
The wolves were pretty unbelievably ferocious, they were more like werewolves really. But the film was great. Neeson was in full on beast mode, and the plane crash is probably one of the most visceral and intense plane crashes I've ever seen on film. Everyone in the theater was freaking out.
And don't miss the scene after the credits!!

Just came back from an advanced screening of Chronicle and... it was pretty good actually. When I saw the trailer I thought it would be some ****ty film that just took a premise teens would like and piled on special effects and what not.
That's somewhat true, but it does more than that. There're a few things that annoyed me, but for the most part it was alright. I think I'll make a thread about it.

Plot: Two beautiful women hang out naked for 80% of the movie, and advertise Bing occasionally.
