I second this. If you liked Spirited Away, which you said you did several posts up (Right?), you will absolutely love this movie. It's very, very well done. Great plot, great characters, great animation. 5/5.
The Hurt Locker- Ladies and gentlemen, your Oscar favorite IMO. This movie was amazing. As realistic a wartime movie you will ever see. The suspense was nearly unbearable and done without relying on gimmicks to create suspense. Go rent it people!

110% fully and unquestionably agree. My brother had told me it was his number 1 movie of '09, and after seeing it, i couldn't agree more. Also true about the suspense, I literally felt like I was on the edge of my seat the whole movie.
Sidenote: I couldn't believe my brother outright, bc he begged me to go see Legion with him...I'm still trying to find out who to write to for recovery of time and expense. Any time Dennis Quaid the Movie Whore (second only to Sam Jackson, who will act in anything, anywhere for a minimum $1 fee) is in a movie, I should know better.
500 Days of Summer was the last movie I watched. W
What a friggin downer!
2 hours of sad crap with the guy being crazy instead of the girl.
Thats it.
This guy is going to revamp SPIDERMAN?
Eeeeeeeeeeeeeesh.
Definitely, Maybe Ryan Reynolds LOL! Funny chick flick had to see it I was all out of movies to watch at home. Not bad because there are actually some comedy in it.
I watched The Invention of Lying. Hilarious. Very cleaver humor, typical of Ricky Gervais. Another thing I loved about it was all the cameos (I don't want to spoil any of them, but you could pretty easily look it up on IMDb). It sort of takes a dig at religion, but it was easy for me to look over. Others might have an issue with that though. EDIT: Just for clarification, I highly recommend this one.
Next I watched was Drag Me To Hell. Admittedly, I'm not a huge horror fan, but I wanted to give this one a try. It was good. I recommend it to any fan of the horror genre, but it didn't have much that would appeal to most outsiders. The "twist ending" I personally saw coming 10 miles away, but the ride was enjoyable enough.
Finally, last night I got with some friends for a "bad movie night" where we watched Jennifer's Body, Dragonball Evolution, and X-Men Origins: Wolverine. They all lived up to their reputation. Jen's Body was absolute dreck, Dragonball was awesomely bad (we at least enjoyed watching that one), and Wolverine had me thinking the whole time "why was this made?" It practically says "screw you" to the storyline of the other 3 movies, and it's not even with good justification. Bad dialogue, bad CGI, etc., everything we've heard about it. I am saddened to hear they plan on making a 2nd one. Because apparently 4 movies focused entirely on Wolverine just aren't enough.
Plot was good..in the beginning but the ending wasn't that great. I was wondering why he didn't just call right away instead of waiting to get back to prison before activating the bomb. 3.5/5 stars
well, the last movie I semi-watched was Moulan Rouge, but since i dislike musicals, it seemed like a poet and a whorehouse on crack, for and hour and 45 minutes.
@Howler: You can say a lot about Wolverine and little of it will be positive, but I didn't see anything bad about the CGI. You have to give them that, at least.
Right after he get's injected with adamantium, when he's examining his claws in the old couples bathroom, the claws seriously looked like plastic tubes, they were horrendous. And they didn't even move with his hands perfectly, you could see whenever he moved them, the claws were slightly delayed. They didn't look that bad in most of the movie, but that one scene was abysmal. Which is sad, because his claws always looked great in the other 3 movies.

Personally, I love the first, say, half of that movie. Very quirky and fun and light-hearted. But it eventually gets REALLY melodramatic, and I feel all the characters kinda "lose themselves" and what made them interesting. I could pretty much stop watching after Come What May, and not really miss anything.
Saw The princess and the frog today. Not bad for a cartoon. Had to see it with my kid. Disney cartoons rarely fails me anyway. The music was pretty good as well.
Breaking news.
There will be no Tibalt, Tamiyo, Tezzeret, Garruk, Chandra, Liliana, mini-Jace, big-Jace, Garruk again, or Sarkhan in Theros either.
There will also be no Black Lotus.
The last movie I saw was The Spy Next Door. It was much better than what one would think from listening to the critics- it was funny, at least, even if I wasn't sure whether all of it was intentional. B+.
Brothers-Jake G-whatever(can't spell his last name) and Toby McGuire. Thought it was gonna be action but it actually is drama, LOL. I think Jake is a good actor. Toby seems to be too passive
I watched Defiance. Bored out of my mind most of the movie. The action scenes were alright, but the rest just dragged on. But I've never much gone for "historical" pieces.

I've always found McGuire to be a very polarized actor for me; one minute I'll think he's doing a fantastic job, the next I want to reach through the screen and strangle him he's so bad. And when I saw Brothers, I finally figured out what it was about him: he can't emote. When he's being calm and reserved, he's excellent. But anytime he attempts to show strong emotion, he just... sucks. This is best illistrated in the Spiderman movies; in the scenes where he's the shy, quiet, nerdy Peter Parker, he's spot on. But when he's Spiderman and trying to act all tough or heroic, he makes me facepalm.
Well on the first of my catching up with the Oscars I just got done watching The Blind Side.
I thought it was a decent movie but really do not see what the Best Picture nomination is about. It's a fine sports movie but I think looking at it as a complete film its lacking that push to greatness that you think a best picture nominee would have.
I want to watch all the best picture nominees so I can get riled up possibly with justification when they announce the winner.
Next on the list is An Education, A Serious Man, Precious, and Up in the Air.
After those 4 I will have seen all of the films and quite a few of them in the theater. Really shows that the Academy is really out of touch with reality. No best picture nomination for The Dark Knight but they will pass one out to an above average movie like The Blind Side.
While I was watching Firefly, everyone was telling me that the movie was bad compared to the show. I really enjoyed the film though. It certainly had a different feel than the series, but the film had to try to answer a lot of questions that got left up in the air after the series ended prematurely. I think they managed to clean up a lot of major issues, and had some pretty great flippant lines about how they were ignoring a couple story arcs.
The last movie I watched was Rob Zombie's Halloween 2. I had been told by several ppl about how violent it was. Maybe I'm jaded from my love of asian/foreign horror but I wasn't impressed. Evertime someone died, the camera zoomed WAY far out so you couldn't really see the special effects. The story was so-so. His first remak was great but I would always consider the original Jaime Lee Curtis Halloween the best!!!
I really disliked the "family" ghost sequences. It was confusing and just stretched the movie out long than it should've been. In the beginning it was tolerable but as it went on, it just confused me more and more. Was Michael Myers the only one who could see them or could everyone? Stupid.
Just got back from Up in the Air lowering my list of Oscar best picture nominees down to 3. This movie was really quite good I thought that Clooney was really entertaining. The movie also defied many cliches which made me quite happy. I kept thinking it was going to go the way of a average movie about 2 people that like each other but it never did.
Next on the list is either Precious, A Serious Man, or An Education....
Sherlock holmes Robert Downey is one of my fave actors and he was really good in here. I would assume this movie is gonna have a sequel. I thought it was a good movie, not better than iron man but it was good.
I finally watched To Wong Foo, Thanks For Everything, Julie Newmar the other night (I know, I've been slacking on my gay duties). It was very entertaining. All 3 of the main actors (Patrick Swayze, Wesly Snipes, and John Leguizamo) did wonderful jobs, Swazye in perticular blew me away. My two biggest issues: 1.) Snipes did NOT make a convincing woman at ALL (physically at least, he didn't look like one, but had the attitude of a queen down perfectly). 2.)
The entire subplot of the cop trying to track them down, and even of them thinking they killed him, was completey unecessary. I just don't feel that it really added anything to the plot.
However, I must admit: at the very, very end, when we see Chi Chi for the last time... Leguizamo looked AMAZING. Seriously, one of the only times I would have genuinely believed that any of them was a real woman.
I recommend the movie, but obviously isn't for anyone who takes issue or offense to drag queens.
Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans
Starring: Nicolas Cage, Eva Mendez, Val Kilmer
Whoa this thing is unbelievably bad. Bad acting, erratic directing, you name it. Why critics liked it (for the most part), I have absolutely no idea. I'd say it's 25% good (read: tolerable), 50% not so good, and 25% WTF?!
Zombieland... again. This time, though, I felt that the cameo death was too much of a departure from the rest of the film. It was just distracting rather than funny.
Hahaha...Last movies seen:
Zombieland - Great movie!
Fired Up - Not my idea...sorta funny in some parts.
The Lightening Thief - ....Worst. Acting. EVAR.
I went into the movie fairly upset because I wanted to watch shutter island, but when it got into the movie I found out the main character was the Rock and it was a hockey movie at that. It had me laughing quite a few times and threw your emotions around a bit when it comes to love, and children, but overall she enjoyed it and I enjoyed it and it was a good night at the movies, 30$ and a hole in my wallet later....... lol
