I like all of that. Thanks for posting it. Of course looking forward to AVENGERS from Whedon as well. Intereting to see how he collaborates with big, talented egotistical and funny personality like Robert Downey Jr., and handles a bunch of A listers & "serious name actors" like Scarlet Johansson, Samuel Jackson, Jeremy Renner, Mark Ruffalo.
Yeah, I'm not at all interested in the Avengers movie, but you're right, the fact that Joss is going to be working with a full cast of A-list actors is something I hope proves very fruitful.
Also, Avengers also coming out 2012. He's really going all out.
The horror movie looks exactly like every other scary thing in the middle of nowhere horror movie released in the last 10 years except for the high tech feel of it.
Not sure why anyone would be impressed by that movie unless they live for any cliche horror movie Hollywood spits out. Joss on the project is not enough to make me super amped about anything no matter what.
Also an April release date is usually a bad sign the best movies of the year hardly ever come out between Jan-April. Occasionally this rule can be broken but for about 95% of what is released between Jan-April its all crap.
I was excited to hear this was being made, but I was a bit let down by the trailer. The typical horror set up of annoying young white people go out to the middle of nowhere and get drunk is just not what I was expecting. Yes, there seems to be a nice twist onto this, but I just cannot stand this set up anymore. It sets up characters that I do not care about, so when they die, to me it is hilarious. Though, outside of that complaint I will still see this film, everything else in the trailer hooked me, force fields will get me to watch anything.
edit:
I will watch anything with Nathan Fillion, he can do no wrong

Really? All descriptions of the film were that it was meant to play on the trope of a bunch of young idiot kids going off into the woods. Hence the title "Cabin in the Woods."

Well, seeing as how I only noticed the movie because of this thread, Cabin in the Woods could of meant a bunch of things, not stereotypical horror set-up. Sorry I don't have time to muddle around the internet all day analyzing movies, though I am glad you do, since I would like to see this film.

Oh, I'm sorry, I thought you had known about the movie before.
I noticed something just now. At first I thought it was just funny editing, but the guy says, "We have to stay together," then later he says, "This isn't right," and then "we should split up."
Each of those clips looks like it's part of the same scene. So it seems like the guy says that they should stay together, and then something influences him to get the crew to split up, which influences everyone except... Can I still call him Topher even though this isn't Dollhouse?
Anyway, maybe there's some kind of mind control in the house that results in Fran Kranz's character being the only one capable of rational decision-making.
If so, THAT'D make for an interesting film. It'd provide for both scares and the opportunity to lampshade a bunch of cliches about horror movies.
There seems to be a pretty obvious mind control bit going on where the guy changes his mind from "rational human being to "character from a horror film"
So, basically, its like a perfect version of the tech from Dollhouse that allowed for long range imprinting (I wish that show hadn't gotten canceled. Can you even imagine the level of awesome of entire seasons of that post apocalyptic universe?)
I really hope that Joss manages to get Enver Gjoka more roles, I've never seen someone able to mimic personalities so well. Dude needs to get an episode or two spot on White Collar.
Speaking of cabins in the woods horror tropes. I highly recommend the spoof movie 'Tucker and Dale vs Evil' as one that turns the cliches all topsy-turvy.
Do not watch any pre-views for it. When my friends and I watched it, everyone who hadn't seen anything loved it, and everyone who had seen spoilers liked it while being disappointed by how much of the insanity they knew was coming.
Oh man I did see a trailer for that and just about fell off my chair. It seemed so very original.
As for Cabin, I think the premise looks interesting, but don't know if it'll be enough to get me to the theater. Rental most likely for me...
I was a huge BUffy fan when it was on the air, but I honestly haven't been too into anything else Joss has done outside of Dr Horrible. I guess I'm keeping a restrained distance on this one!
Movie is awesome. Funny, clever, awesome spoof on horror movies. Highly recommended.
So I haven't seen it (probably won't), but I know there was all this effort put forth by Joss Whedon to make sure nothing about it was spoiled in the reviews...
But was there really anything more to it than being a Truman Show meets "The Architect from the Matrix" thriller? We were able to glean that much from the trailers, so I'm just curious if there was more to it that needed to be kept quiet.

So, so much more you can not even imagine. The trailer only shows the first act of the movie.
Don't think you've even begun to see any of the movie from the trailer, because you haven't.
"If I do go to heaven, I'll smack god across the face and tell him to get me a grilled-cheeses sandwhich and then say 'Yea what now god!? Say some'in! I dare you!' "
Yeah, the fact that the people in the cabin are being manipulated is something that's told to you almost immediately.
I highly recommend you see the movie. It's one of those things where even if you read the spoiler, it's nowhere near as satisfying as seeing the answers unfold in front of you, which is the mark of good sci fi.
I first will admit to being a Whedon fanboy, but I do think this is a movie worth seeing in theaters. The thing I've noticed is a large majority of people who hated this movie were expecting a horror movie. Personally I would say it turned out better than just your standard slasher horror flick. The trailer didn't help in that case. Best suggestion if you are planning on seeing it, ignore the trailer. Go in and expect a fun movie.

I wonder if the user rating will be dropping now. I am a huge Whedon fan, though I recognize what stuff of his has broad appeal and what does not. I tend not to try to push my Whedon tastes on other people (e.g. Dr. Horrible is not for everybody. Sorry, but its just not). I do know his writing is always very, very strong, and CAPABLE of broad appeal... when he headed the writing crew on Roseanne, it was amazing and "real"... I wonder if the intelligence and quirkiness of Cabin just went over the head of all the people who hated it in exit polls.
Rotten tomatoes average was at 92-94%, but not everyone loves this movie. I feel the largest problem was thinking it was going to be a horror movie.

I agree. I wouldn't have known it was a horror comedy going in had I not read Rotten Tomatoes, and even the scary moments aren't particularly scary.
It'll be interesting to see how the movie will do after its opening weekend. I don't think too many people heard of the film, or at least wanted to wait until reviews were in so they would hear about it first. The fact that the film has a stellar review rating should boost it.
I just really, really hope this thing succeeds. It's a funny movie and I would love it if Joss Whedon could get a commercial success under his belt.
Trailer for Joss Whedon's film "The Cabin in the Woods," which releases (hopefully) April 2012.
That "really?" line sold it for me.
http://muchadothemovie.com/
Then there's the upcoming Much Ado about Nothing movie, which involves Nathan Fillion and Shakespeare.
I know, right?
This should also be released in 2012. It has not yet found a distributor, but will probably making the rounds at film festivals and such.
This stuff plus The Hobbit is making 2012 look like a really good year for movies.
Also, Avengers also coming out 2012. He's really going all out.

So go watch Alan Tudyk be hilarious in the woods.
