I've been playing the demo recently and it feels pretty good. My main complaints are the floatiness of movement and my occasional problems with positioning the circle pad. I think these can both be explained by the fact that my last Smash game was Melee for the Gamecube.
Omega mode is nice.

So I played the (Early Release) Demo. The 3DS version is great... unless you get too far away, and then it's impossible to tell what is going on. I played it with 4 people on co-op and it ran really smoothly.
Yup. I've been playing the Demo all week, and I've bene really impressed iwth how well the handheld is doing. Especially impressed iwth how the 3D is turning out.
Also, Mega man rocks.
Edit: What I'm not impressed with? My typing. Dear lord, that's atrocious.

Yeah, he's just confusing to figure out at first. His basic A attack feels like a basic B attack on any other character.
And of course I left my 2DS at my parents' place across the country when I was there this weekend, and won't be back until Christmas, so I'm not going to get to play the game when it comes out.

Hey, send me your Friend Code when you get it back.
Convinced my dad to mail it to me, so I should have it in a few days, hopefully.
Game comes out tomorrow though. Get hype.
Weirdly, my level of hype for this game is nowhere near what it was for Brawl. Probably a combination of the overall letdown that Brawl was, the fact that it's not a console release, and the fact that I'm not playing Smash literally every day like I was when Brawl released.

I really don't think Brawl was a let down so much as it wasn't Melee. Everyone wanted a Melee re-release with more characters.
Granted, the game was a bit floatier, but the new game fixes that quite a bit. True online play (rather than Brawl's laggy mess) should also make this a lot more replayable for me.
Back in college, the Smash was all the time, and that meant melee.
Brawl had a lot of issues. Very few reliable combos besides the occasional bogus exploit infinite, huge balance issues, campy as all get-out, TRIPPING, super floaty, many characters couldn't reliably kill at 140%, etc.

True. Tripping was annoying but pretty rare. I definitely agree about the difficulty getting reliable kills with some characters. It's part of the reason I stopped playing Sheik, I could rack up damage to 200% but still had trouble getting a good kill in.
I've never thought about Smash Bros as being a game about combos, though. The amount of comboing tends to be inversely proportion to the accessibility of a game, and I just don't have time for learning that nonsense anymore.
Based on the demo and early impressions, this game is a balance of the good aspects of both melee and brawl.
Sheik was my favorite from Melee, so her massive nerfs across the board were very offputting.
I was actually also a huge fan of Zelda. At first brush, she seemed a lot better, but the changes to airdodging made her side-B infinitely dodgeable, and her lightning toe became insanely hard to land and way worse if it wasn't sweet-spotted.

Tried the demo for the 3DS version but I didn't really like how it controlled with the nub. Might just end up waiting for the Wii U version so I can play with better controls.
I've been enjoying playing Smash Bros. this past weekend. My favorite characters so far are Little Mac, Sheik, and Mega Man.
Little Mac is so strong on the ground and can get some real cheesy kills with his K.O. B, but his recovery is just so so bad. I've never loved playing as someone, but so frustrated by dying to things that any other character could recover from.
Sheik is 3DS feels very storng. Still some problems getting kills, but her agility, needles, and burst grenade give her a ton of zone control.
Mega Man is fun, but feels weird. He feels like he wants to be mid range, but doesn't have the damage and zone control to do it. His short range, especially Top Spin, has great damage, but he lacks the mobility to not get retaliated against or the bulk to take it. His long range has potential, but is easily played around. Basically he seems like a Jack of All Trades, but master of none.
Guardman, I mostly agree with you. I may be back to maining Sheik. All the 'nerfed' characters from Brawl seem to be back to form now. I may even start maining Kirby again, as it doesn't feel like he's got low priority to everything anymore.
Sheik does still have some issues killing from my experience, but it doesn't seem quite so bad relative to the rest of the cast as it did in Brawl.
Shiek's issues were still there in Melee, but in general it worked out okay when you played hit and run like you were supposed to with her.
In Melee, she lost a ton of priority and some speed that cause me to look elsewhere. It looks like they've rectified that in the new version, so that her Tilt-A is fairly strong again.
Enjoying the game so far. I actually picked up on Dark Pit sort of out of nowhere which seems odd as I didn't like him in brawl. Little Mac has been sort of my go to out of the new characters so far. I really enjoy what he has access to but he has a lot of awkward things with bad recovery from so you really need to know what you are doing with him and his ability to do things in the air seem really lacking lol. Still, he is a lot of fun so far.
I really need to get back to my roots and try out Fox and Kirby again. Since Brawl happened I have been a bit gun shy of playing them though.

I have officially moved to MTGNexus. I just wanted to let people know as my response time to salvation decks being bumped is very hit or miss.

Sheik's forward-air killed reliably under 100% in Melee.
In Brawl, you could *maybe* get a kill at 140%, with basically any of her moves. Speed and priority were never her issues, and her forward tilt was an amazing damage racker at low %'s (it could 0-60% a lot of the cast). Her issues were the ability to kill, because getting from 60-150% is really tough.
