I had a good one last night, took Sniper ultimate and Headshot, plus Visage attack speed steal and LC's AoE + movement speed spell. Something like 11-6-8, but we won. 'Twas nice!
There are certain skills that result in basically any build being very powerful. A quick list of such skills is Divided We Stand, Grow, Mass Serpent Wards, Shukichi, Thirst, Blink, Crush, Sticky Napalm, Storm Hammer, Burrowstrike, Split Shot.
There are some others such as Feast, Fury Swipes, Duel, Shockwave, and Impale(and Impale #2) that I've seen go poorly for others but have never been less than spectacular for me.
I've noticed an undervaluing of nukes by a lot of players. Nukes are the easiest spells in the game to use and are useful in any build. The number of times I've seen Frostblast/Mana Burn go through unpicked, or Shockwave survive to the 4th round, or Storm Hammer/Burrowstrike/Crush survive to the 2nd round is mind boggling. People get overfocused on synergy and fail to realize that having 1000 damage in easy to use nukes is a form of synergy.
Most of my builds have overlap between them and blend together.
Some of the noteworthy ones are:
Burrow Strike + Natural Order + Finger of Death
Grave Chill + Static Link + Great Cleave + Duel
Split Shot + Feast (Has happened twice)
I have still not gotten Blink. I used to get it a ton in OMG mode, but it seems that other people are valuing it even higher than I do now.
My favorites and current best pick:
Sticky Napalm + Shackles (instant kill)
Moon Glaives + Juxtapose (Crazy push)
Warpath+Inner Fire+Quills+Nasal Goo on Skywrath. At level 6, permanent 200 bonus damage and max move and attack speed for the rest of the game.
Most passives I find, especially bashes, are crazy overpicked, and glaives of wisdom is criminally underpicked as a ranged enabled for melee heroes. i usually get it close to last pick and it is always a good pick. Apart from that, the distribution of ranged/melee heroes often determines a game, and apparently no one pays attention to hero stat gains/level as a factor in what skills they pick.

17th pick Mass Serpent Wards. There were 16 picks of people taking worse abilities. I only passed it the first time because I'm bored of how easy it is to win with. I tried to get someone else to take it out for a spin and they just throw my favor away. I'm still at 100% winrate with it over a dozen or so games. The spell is not remotely fair.
I still can't believe how highly people pick crap like Hex.
Yep. Just had a game the other day with 3 feeders, still managed to win with serpent wards and a single competent carry. Game I'm in right now had a brood pick spiritbreaker's bash over nine other more relevant skills =/
