I played World of Warcraft a while ago, stopped playing since friends rushed me to lvl 85 and I missed out a lot of storyline. Anyway, I was thinking of going back to WoW because I am missing the whole MMORPG experience with a huge world and adventuring.
Before you suggest anything, I am on a Mac, don't know if bootcamp or that will make my Mac slow down to much. I'd rather not use bootcamp. I would like a MMORPG to play on my MAC. Any suggestions?

WoW runs great on Mac. I've been playing on Mac since 2005 without any major problems. Mists is a mixed bag and very polarizing in terms of like/dislike. I enjoyed the change from Cataclysm to MoP and look forward to the new expansion. I've been playing for nine years, since beta. I'll be there til the servers close probably.
It's more that people always overvalue removal. Really, if they make a card ":symb:: Sorcery: As an additional cost, get F'd in the A. Destroy target creature." people will say "removal is removal" and first-pick it.
I played WoW for years and years, and quit just before MoP came out.
And to be honest, I haven't played since. The problem with playing WoW these days is the fact it's an inferior game to what it was. If you weren't really in to the game before, give it a shot and you might like it. However, I just couldn't enjoy WoW anymore because it just kept getting worse and worse.
WoW has really lost a lot of the charm it had back in BC.
Gone are the whacky builds that you can do with sub-par skill spent just so you can access abilities that seem fun. Things are far too stream-lined now.
Gone is the guild-based activities that were actually fun. Raids are a joke now, and it really sucks.
PvP is dead. Both instanced and random ones. Random pvp was one of the more entertaining things back in BC and WoTK.
I might get the next expansion just to see what they're doing with the Outlands, with MoP bought really ****ing cheap so that I don't feel too sad. I might play casually, 15 USD a month really is nothing if you think about it.
WoW has gotten WAY too easy imo. Last time I played nothing about the game was challenging in the least and getting a character to max level took all of a month or less.

I will always firmly stand by the belief that Magic is a game first and a collectable second.
There was a story with WoW beyond the names of the expansions. Could have fooled me
As others have said if you like story to your MMORPG experience go with Star Wars: The Old Republic. Whilst each of the 8 classes end up at the same planets in the same order each of them have a different storyline which give reasons why they have to be in those areas, and in IMO makes for a more immersive experience.

This is what really what turned me off from the game. As an old-school player there was a sense of achievement that came with things like epic mounts, purple gear, and just access to raids in the first place.
Remember what you had to go through before you could even enter Molten Core or Onyxia's Layer? Just by getting inside the damn instance you were proving a level of commitment and skill.
Once things like that started to be given away essentially for free, I felt cheated as a Day-1 player watching newbies run around with things that were unearned in my opinion.

WoW isn't worth it, stopped being worth it at the end of BC and while flirting with being worth it afterwards never really gained it back.
The number of people who sub for new content and unsub when it's completed is crazy. Everything else said about guilds, raids, pvp, gear and all that is true.
I used to raid hardcore, now you couldn't pay me to play that game.

CAMILLA: You, sir, should unmask.
STRANGER: Indeed?
CASSILDA: Indeed it's time. We all have laid aside disguise but you.
STRANGER: I wear no mask.
CAMILLA: (Terrified, aside to Cassilda.) No mask? No mask!
Yes, you should play it. If you are trying to get into an MMORPG again, the only game you will find worth it is WoW. Yes WoW has its downs, but why do people always come back to it? Because anything else on the market is literally 5 steps or more down from what it is. The entitled whiners I see talk about how bad WoW is astounds me, "oh no other people get purples"... who cares if someone else gets enjoyment from a game they pay for also? I can promise you no one in here has ever cleared heroic-25 man content in the first month it was released... The game is fun, each expansion has its merits, and the people who constantly try to bash the game with their ludicrous reasons is hilarious. TBC was fun, also nostalgic, it was many of ours first expansion for any game... Wrath(this expansion is so funny, and I can tell who wasn't around for that expansion because the amount of crying of "OMG WOTLK SUCKS SO BAD" at the time of its life was eye-gouging... and now all you hear is how amazing it was)... Cata ok, this one sucked. And Mists is hands down their best expansion, nothing about the expansion was welfare other then the new Timeless Isle(you run around and open chests with a chance at an epic), but who honestly wants to level an alt through 90 levels to only trug through 4 patches of content before they can actually play the game? Mists added so much to the game in comparison to everything else you are sorely missing out not playing it. Besides, if you don't end up liking it, just unsub..? It really is only 15$.
I'm surprised the best part of Warcraft 3 (alcoholic pandas) is cited as the worst part of WoW. Then again I haven't played wow in ages, and never paid for a subscription for it.
Played MMOs before WoW --- I am still young (mid 20s) and played UO (ultima online) when I was 7th grade. Then DAoC (dark age of camelot) prior to the release of WoW. Never played it, only heard bad things, and I hate games that increase the level caps and end game is only raiding.
DAoC end game is RvR (superior to PvP) but has old graphics but still is fun with friends. Also has great story lines.
I played Rift for 2 years - a lot of people from WoW moved to this. Now it is free to play, very much worth a try as your character can switch roles (as in your mage can switch from support, to primary dps single target, to aoe, then to heals -- ala role slots)
Guild Wars 2is worth a try, again great story and beautiful game.
I have been playing Final Fantasy 14, been fun, no regrets.

I came back to Rift after a long time and started leveling my War/Pal/VK tank. Spent 6 hours questing at level 60 and didn't even get 25% of the way to level 61. Seriously, what's with the long grind? Although I must say Rift was a lot of fun back when it was initially released, but now it feels like a grindfest.
FF14 was alright. The game is very linear, but if you like linear RPGs with the MMO element of partying with random people then it might suit your needs. You'll also learn that FATE grinding is going to be your bread and butter for specific levels before you qualify to start in higher level areas.

It's the Jack Sparrow effect. Fun as a diversion from the main event, but when it pulls all the focus, you're gonna have a bad time.
OT: Haven't played WoW since Rift came out. Friends convinced me to jump ship, then they left Rift right after I paid for a 6 month subscription... I don't play subscription based MMOs anymore.
There's plenty of freemium MMOs on Steam, give 'em a go and see if any of em stick. Vindictus is pretty fun.

If you're going to play WoW, I would just wait until the new expansion comes out. You can boost a character to level 90.

The correct answer is to not start an MMO. It's a terrible genre. It thrives on allowing people, mostly people who are incapable of playing more challenging games, to feel like they've accomplished things when they haven't frequently enough to keep them coming back for more.
Oh yeah, you totally killed 15,302 mobs that a trained monkey could defeat and earned that new mount. Well done, champ!
If you want to dedicate yourself to a game for that many hours, take one with a skill ceiling that isn't somewhere between tying a shoe and making a PBJ. Then, after ten thousand hours spent in it, you won't just have everything reset for the next expansion, you'll be very skilled at something impressive. SC2, perhaps.
