No swain is kinda bad right now (and has been for a long time). He's pretty damn fun though. Ezreal is also kinda bad atm, not as bad though. Also pretty fun.

Swain has no lategame role as soon as the enemy team has a couple ignites or a morellonomicon. If the enemy team is disorganized and isn't going to be able to reliably get grievous wounds on you in a teamfight, he's amazing, but as soon as he gets a grievous wounds effect the primary thing he does - constant damage while sustaining off almost all incoming damage - doesn't really work, and if he can't operate in point blank range without dying, he's useless. Been the same story for years with him. If you need to be in the middle of the fray and the only thing keeping you from dying when you get focused is sustain (contrast with mundo right now with the current defense tree - he's got a ton of sustain in his kit, but he ends up with so much raw defense that he's near impossible to kill even without it), you're gonna have a bad time against semi-organized opponents.
They really ought to take the grievous wounds clause off ignite - it kills sustain tanks and mages while making their desired paradigm for healer-style supports (clutch heals and saves rather than consistent sustain) almost impossible, since in mid-late game the person who needs a clutch save is often ignited.
Yes, they'd have to retune a whole lot of champs since the sustain guys tend to be overpowered if nobody has grievous wounds to bring against them, but sooner or later they should take that whole project on.
Thanks for the tip, Feathas. That's a lot to chew for relative amateur like me, but I roughly get the gist
Also, just randomly asking: How do you guys play Pantheon? He's an oddball to me: A melee champ, but two of his abilities require AD while the other two requires AP, including his ulti.
The only consistent thing I do is to give him only 1 point on his E ability (100% critical below 15% HP) until I max everything else, as the Active effect is practically useless if I decide to get Hydra. Recently I usually play him as AP, because his W ability needs AP and stuns (and stun is always good), plus his ulti (I really hate that long channeling) also gets boosted by AP. And his AP scaling is fantastic (100% AP, if I'm not mistaken). In contrast, while his Q ability (requiring AD) is nice for randomly harassing, it doesn't interest me as much, and as I said earlier, his E ability is hopeless for offense.
Another thing I want to say is that although I don't remember well how Skarner played before the patch, his current kit looks combo-logical enough to me that I'm buying it: Fracture for long range slow, close in with W ability, Impale, and just whack as much as you like. The question is what sort of items are good for him. Nashor's Tooth looks good (bonus attack speed AND AP bonus, which he needs), but beyond that I'm stumped. Maybe Frozen Mallet, but eh...
Originally, there was only AP scaling, but then slowly they added in AD scaling, but the way that pantheon works its more that they gave his stun/ult ap scaling so that he wouldnt be doing insane damage. It also allows him, and others who have mostly 1 kind of scaling, to gain benefits from baron and various aura effect, like old WOTA.
The active on his E is actually quite strong. It does 360% your bonus AD if you hit a champ 3 times. So, well, just rush a BT in lane and murder people. Plus it provides pretty good waveclear.
And his Q has 140% bonus AD scaling, so, again, stacking AD on him is really good. The natural damage is decent at low levels as well, plus the fact that it has one of the shortest CDs for a nuke in the game it can apply a lot of early pressure.
Swain is a terrible mid. He has no way to push the lane outside of his ultimate while just about every other mid can shove the lane to his turret and start roaming. He's an op top laner though. He destroys just about every melee champion.

His W is great for pushing, it's just that it's ***** for dueling.

It's on a really long cooldown. Mids that can push have their wave clear spell start out at 10 or 9 seconds and some get reduced cooldowns by putting more points in it.
The cooldown is fine enough for pushing, the issue is that he can't waveclear with it at a low rank because he can't spam it. It's the same problem LeBlanc had before it became a good idea to max her W. It still isn't quite the highest dueling burst but after her ult change is a lot better, and so now people max her W for the waveclear because you can afford to without ruining your dueling. If you invest many points into nevermove so you can waveclear, Swain can no longer duel well (it's a much more sizeable difference than it is for current LeBlanc) and so you generally don't. Thus bad waveclear.
Minion waves only come every 30 seconds, no non-ult spell in the game is too long CD for it. They just need investment to deal enough damage. That investment costs swain enough that it's usually not worth it. But if you truly need waveclear, and you sometimes do, the option is there.
There are some viable/top-tier mid laners who don't have spammable waveclear nor max a non-spammable waveclear spell first, though. Ones that would naturally want to max it third, like Swain, yea not (m)any.
Swain is an absolutely vicious pubstomper with a hardcore dedicated fanbase (which always drives win rates up, when its only the hardcore fans playing something). He just runs into trouble when the enemy teams are organized enough to take him down. You'll do fine with him, based on the impression of your current level of opponents that I get from your posts.

Yea I completely agree with this. He has very strong and simple dueling, which is always powerful at low elo, where even more than the rest of solo queue everything is viable.

Yeah, that's sort of true XD. I just need to rune myself first then start PvPing hardcore. I only have 1 quint and 18 glyphs left

Unless you plan on playing swain to the exclusion of other APC's, or at least dedicated a significant amount of time to him, there are other champions your time will be better spent on. We had a swain in one of my ranked games yesterday. All it really took for us to win was to make sure our support took ignite instead of exhaust and we were able to easily asplode him in team fights.
Something I've been wondering recently: why don't they do something about Kassadin? As far as I can tell, he's quite literally on permaban status in LCS. I can't recall seeing a game where he wasn't banned out. That can't be healthy.
You really just need to embrace the rage. I keep a small colony of hamsters next to my computer and every time I lose a match to mana screw I throw one against the wall.

They do have PBE things on him, but I feel like he needs a rework: flashes every 9 seconds looks and sort of feels overpowered. Although CC is great against him, no one seems to use it Or you can use a 100-0 AD assassin against him. When he riftwalks, you have a 7 second window till he can flash again. Kill him in these seven seconds. If he Q's, you have a 4.5 second window to kill him. I find that Talon and Kha-Zix are great against him. And buying banshee's really helps

The PBE changes ARE a rework. They're never getting rid of Riftwalk, so they'll balance him around it - much like Twisted Fate is one of the weakest champs in the whole game except for his ult (which is gamebreaking).

Well I don't have trouble beating him cause I never face him. He's always banned. It's just odd that they leave him like that - usually you'd expect them to hard-nerf him while they test the rework. It's like the team that has second pick only has two bans now.

I got Leona because she was on sale and I needed another aggro support.
