An early trinityforce/phage really turns him into a kiting machine. Lucian I think really wants a sheen early imho simply because while he can be an effective lane bully. He is quite mana hungry in the early game as all of his abilities cost 60 mana (with him starting at 271), and because of how his passive works, you ideally want it up for trading with the enemy adc.
Does anyone know if his passive's second shot can crit? I haven't gotten two crits in a row, but I am not sure if unlucky, or because it can't....
The game I played him I went with a straight BoTRK-->PD build to try and make his ult a huge threat in team fights. I never noticed a double crit though from his passive so I can't say for sure myself either. I may try a triforce build on him, I'm also curious how well Stattik Shiv might work on him, IE if his ult shooting can proc it multiple times if he stays on the move during it. This guy is really going to make for some interesting testing/theory crafting when I get more time.
And once again Vlad is op against AP mids. This time courtesy of Spirit Visage. Vlad benefits from it all of it's effects. You can get max CDR so easily on him now.
Here's to you Vlad. Only you can break an item not once, not twice but thrice. First Hextech Revolver than Will of the Ancients and now Spirit Visage. Vlad's design is so op that he had to be nerfed about 30 times.

Why not just Spirit Visage+SoTEW+Blue pot...that way you can get Sorc Shoes/Merc Treads and use full penetration/mr/armor/etc runes?

I skip SoTEW because I use all 3 spell vamp quints so I get 18% spell vamp with just a revolver. With a a Spirit Visage added in I could heal at least 1/5th of all the damage i do. With spell vamp quints + revolver I could just get any item that gives a lot of ap instead of upgrading to an item which doesn't give much. I lose 10% CDR from SoTEW but it's worth it since I get Haunting Guise and later upgrade it to Liandry's for my magic penetration. And since Vlad can avoid all hard CC with troll pool you don't really need merc treads. I don't really use the blue pot because it delays other items by a lot. I don't really bother upgrading revolver until all of my other items are finished.
I still get the same starting magic resist as standard ap champions because Vlad goes 21/9 instead of 21/0/9. I still take the same flat armor runes. I dropped magic penetration reds for hybrid ones because they are better for last hitting and harassing melee champions with autos while Q is a long cooldown at early levels. I've always take flat armor yellows unless I'm against AP in which case I take scaling health yellows so nothing changes there.

I follow reapered's runes and masteries (which nets 16.5% flat cdr) to a tee and have had great success with them, I find it more useful than manipulating things to get an easy cdr cap. In the end, being 10% above or below cdr cap really doesn't hurt his late game that much, compared to how much a ton of flat cdr helps his early game.
I'd also like to point out that the SV changes are as powerful against vlad as they are for him. A Spectre's Cowl rush absolutely destroys his power spike.
Oh yea, the SV changes actually made it less efficient for CDR btw. It's a more efficient item overall yea, but it's more expensive and it's been 20% cdr for (almost?) all of s3.

That is a terrible mistake to make. Please consider trying it, it is arguably even more core to vlad now than hourglass. It's an insane item. I'd urge you try MS quints, I run them in every single matchup now - because even when they aren't good in lane (as they often are), they're SO HELPFUL for his lategame. AP quints are also good.
Fair enough I guess I tend to run a pretty generic rune set up on Vlad, same as the ones I use for pretty much any AP, where I differ though is I prefer a 9/21 set up on him as I find the defensive masteries help smooth out his weak early game and while I don't get the same power spike as other vlads get I find I get a smoother transition from early to mid and late game. It's also good for spectral cowl rushes when you are just trading back and forth over sustained confrontations.
21/9/0, 9/21/0 and 9/0/21 all work. It took me a little while to adjust my playstyle to 9/0/21 but I don't think I'd ever want to use the other two now.
21/9/0 has the best all-ins and short trades with transfusion chunks, 9/21/0 is the most immovable in lane and 9/0/21 comes very close to that and has great split pushing and mobility. And is the most annoying with all the move speed and cdr. It does have the worst all-ins early, though, you have to be extra careful about choosing your fights - but you have more tools to avoid them and sustain.

I prefer the tankiness from runes so I don't get insta gibed randomly.
Actually it doesn't because Vlad is a dps mage. Specters cowl is way more effective against APs with mid to long cooldowns which are almost all burst mages.
SV has always been good on Vlad but now the item is even better. Vlad likes the tankiness because he needs to be in the middle of a fight, vlad like the health regen because his W and E use health and vlad likes the increased self healing it gives.

It works for me. I use MS quints on Vlad but only when I go top lane against melee champions. Spell Vamp runes give me more flexibilty when it comes to item building.
So what is the set up you use Feathers that gets you the 16.5 CDR or whatever it is?
Armor seals are probably better for a few matchups but honestly I feel I wouldn't gain enough from them for the cost of one of my 8 pages. Health/level seals are quite good on vlad, though subpar on most everyone else. I've wanted to try out hybrid pen marks for him but not enough to actually buy those damn expensive things.
I prefer the tankiness from runes so I don't get insta gibed randomly.
If you play smart and run ghost + flash, you don't need it. The main difficulty in getting used to 9/0/21 is precisely avoiding insta-gibs and bad all-ins. It's a lot easier with MS quints too, it's honestly a bit surprising how much harder it is for most champs to stick on or even get on vlad in the first place with them.
Actually it doesn't because Vlad is a dps mage. Specters cowl is way more effective against APs with mid to long cooldowns which are almost all burst mages.
I don't think spectre's cowl is about cooldown length at all, it's more about how protracted fights are, and (unless fed) vlad always has to soften people up first. The passive does nothing to a true burst caster like, say, veigar - obviously the mr hurts him and in ways mr is more troublesome for burst casters, yes. Hell even with your all-in burst combo, there's a solid amount of spectre's cowl ticks because you have to cast 2 or 3 rounds of EQ. I disagree, maybe you haven't had it done to you but it just ruins your ability to whittle people down completely. Although obviously less so for a 21/9/0 vlad, so that may explain differing experiences we have.
In any case, it's a ridiculous item so it doesn't matter much who it's best against.

I know, I'm just saying the changes didn't technically make it easier to cap cdr, they really made it harder - it was a good item on him before. It is even stronger now, but it is more gold for the same cdr, that's all I meant.

Haven't gotten to play around with Lucian as much as I would like, but here are my impressions of him.
He feels very smooth overall, his autos are crisp and his skills flow together well.
His laning is hard, but can easily be overcome with skill. Lucian favors all-ins during laning phase, as he tends to go oom quickly if the opponent can sustain your poke. His ult takes skill to land properly and with the right timing, and the damage seems lackluster, though the range is nice. Being able to use it while chasing/fleeing can be great. I tend to use his ult only in situations where I would otherwise be out of range.
He feels really fun, and his damage isn't bad. His mana is harsh, yet manageable. And he's easily one of the most slippery champs in the league. His potential to clean up after a fight is incredible, and his dueling potential is quite high.
I think he's quite balanced for a new champ, almost surprisingly so, and I think he's worth picking up for the fun factor alone.
gonna try 21-0-9 for Ahri carry
seems fun, finally got all my mid champs to do something else than mid
halfway through getting Hecarim, really happy that I can jungle with a real jungle(and not Anivia)
The best part of this Lucian craze is that when I go toe to toe with one as Varus and they ult, I don't even have to move out of it, just keep shooting and I'll win the damage race.
Been screwing around with AP corki. God he's fun (so long as you're not lagging, then he sucks). Your Q gives you a fair amount of dominance in lane, and once you build up to a deathfire, you basically can 2 shot squishies (and your rockets mean that you have waaay more than two shots if the need arises).
Can you do AD carry while building AP? or Carry at all with AP Corki?
I'm assuming if you can't do AD carry, you would just go mid with him as AP, correct?
Also, when you say "build up to a Deathfire", is that the "Big One" on his Ult? Or is it the W? I played him awhile ago as AD carry and I didn't do great (went 7-10, and I think a lot kills came as lucky shots in Team fights) but my team did win. I still think I have a lot to learn about playing him and ASHE. Tried Ashe yesterday and I felt I didn't do too well, but we still ended up winning!

It would be analogous to AP trist - you'd be a mobile, ranged assassin, not an ADC.
He has AP ratios on three skills, but none are particularly great - .5 on phosphorus bomb, .2/sec on valkyrie and .3 on missile barrage (.45 on Big Ones every third shot).
It's a neat trolly build. For your next trick, build a Liandry's Torment and max CDR on Ashe!
My ranked team faced off against a team of I believe 2 Challenger Tier players and 3 Diamond Tier players, with a Challenger tier Ahri ADC and a Diamond tier support behind her, once.
I've heard the term "Blue Pot" or "Red Pot". I've always assumed they were the Health or Mana potions you buy at the beginning of round. But then, while watching a youtube LOL replay, the caster said he made his laning opponent waste a Blue Pot, which put her out 150g? 300? 500? something like that....
..And I thought, wait, WTF? red or blue pots only cost 35g!
So, I'm guessing these are those other potion things that boost your AP or AD? What's the deal with these? I've never used them before.

Yeah, those would be the Elixirs, Elixir of fortitude(red pot, sometimes called fort pot) and Elixir of brilliance(blue pot). They are consumable items you can buy to temporarily boost your champions stats, they last for five minutes and are usually only bought once you've reached a full build, or if you need a damage spike for an upcoming fight. Red pot costs 350 gold and gives your champion a certain amount of extra health and attack damage depending on your level. Blue pot costs 250 gold and give cooldown reduction and ability power depending on your level.
There's also Oracles Elixir which costs 400 gold and allows your champion to see stealthed units(wards, teemo shrooms, invisible champs etc.)

Not saying she's bad in the role, mind, just that doing it makes you officially evil.
