Vlad was actually the third champion that I bought - without having ever played him, because I actually researched champs before I played the game very much and knew I would like him. Just buy whoever you're interested in, but probably try them out for a few games on a free week if they're at least 3150. Vlad for me was a special case.

She's an AP mid. Could go top probably in some matchups, but pretty much a classic mage.
She's kinda fun, btw, but super awkward to play. She's one of those champs that you have to plan to play a lot if you want to play her at all - which is cool, as long as you decide you really like playing her.
She did have that brief moment of OP jungling when minions would atk her orbs. Also support syndra is always fun.
Indeed, although if you want a fun support you'll be able to play in ranked nami is where its at. Thresh is fun since everything going on, there is just stuff to do and you'll always feel able to make powerful plays. Best auto attack damage of any support. Highest armor of any support, although it takes 140 souls to beat tarics level 5 w at level 18, which takes awhile. I average over 50 souls by 20 minutes and recently beat my record by getting over 80 at 20 (had my previous record at 17 minutes) and its just crazy awesome when you can get level 18 armor for some champs at level 10. Just getting 4-5 souls a level is standard armor gain, right?
Speaking of Thresh, just got him in a game. 6/3/18. I had so many epic plays. I went b at 13-14 minutes with 2.7k gold. Bought aegis and mobility boots from scratch. Felt sooooooo goooood

Made it to Silver -> Gold Promo. Won first game handily as top malphite where i pulled off an epic double kill lvl 4 by teleporting bot to stop a countergank. 5/1/13 like a baws
Second game I didn't realize until I was in Queue that my mom was streaming hulu downstairs (we have **** internet). I picked janna predicting to lag, and was not disappointed. I was stuck at a solid 300-900 ping all game, but my team was on point. Despite early losses bot and top, we held it together and came back with several clutch teamfights and ended up winning it. Despite the heinous lag, I managed a 0/2/16 janna score.
So far, so good

Right now in solo que blind pick , for the adc's :
"Either you play Vayne or go home"
I've stomped two Vaynes in a row as MF. Draven still craps on her. Corki still craps on her. Lulu stomps her. Sona stomps her. And yeah, she outscales any of them, but not by enough to come back from a good buttwhooping in lane if you know how to take objectives mid-game.
She's strong, maybe nerf-worthy, but eminently beatable if the player playing her isn't a lot better than you.
I have only seen two types of Vaynes, the bad ones who don't have refined playstyles, and the good ones who are monsters to take down. I suck at ADC so I've done every other kind to death really.
I am very sad though. After looking through the patch notes for 3.10, I feel like playing my favorites being tanks is now moot really.
Warden's Mail
Passive slow duration reduced to 1 second from 1.5.
Cost reduced to 1000 from 1100.
Randuin's Shield
Passive slow duration reduced to 1 second from 1.5.
Cost reduced to 3000 from 3100 (combine cost unchanged).
Runic Bulwark
*REMOVED*
Aegis of the Legion
* Combine cost reduced to 375 from 625 (total cost reduced to 1900 from 2150)
* Health reduced to 200 from 250.
* No longer grants self-only magic resist.
* Unique Aura – Legion
* No longer grants armor.
* Magic resist increased to 20 from 15.
* No longer grants additional bonuses to minions.
As for the new MR resist items and all the little buffs.... that is just so ever swell and just peachy. Hopefully the enemy team is four AP and one AD for when I need to worry about protecting the carry.
Though I do gotta laugh at Karthus not cause I hate that champ, I in fact enjoy mid lanning as him. Though seriously the same 3.10 patch where MR is getting buffed up he is getting his damage nerfed? I didn't realize Karthus was still strong in competitive play.
Eh, rather just get a Banshees Veil at that point, the new version is kind of insane and 450 health and 55 MR, as my only MR item, to go along with a bunch of armor/hp is workable for me.
So after having two amazing games as J4 jungle, my third game for the day I go support Leona...
And I play so depressingly bad I feel like I should inflict some degree of bodily harm to myself >.<
So many times in the early going Nami/Cait got out of position for what would of been easy kills for Trist...and I can't hit a Zenith blade to save my life, I missed every ult and allowed my lane to get shut down so badly I was level 9 when the game ended 31 minutes in, enemy support was 13.
Good grief I feel so bad right now >.<
EDIT--Honestly when in the hell did Gold II become Bronze V? Last game we get the "I want top" "No I want it" blah blah blah going and then when last pick doesn't get top first pick, and his duo partner, Lee Sin gets a brilliant idea. "Let's send Varus(me) against Wukong while me on Lee Sin and my buddy on Riven take bot lane against Vayne." Both then proceed to feed and let Vayne free farm and of course as soon as Wukong hits 6 he can EQR me for insta-death which forces me to sit back and farm with my Q...sad thing is even doing this at one point I had the highest CS of the game...so stupid.

Don't worry man. I feel your pain. I played Leona during the free week and did terrible, and decided she wasn't for me. I don't even know what she does that's considered support. She doesn't have any stuns, cc, sheilding, healing or anything (to the best of my memory). I have no idea how she's supposed to be played or what puts her in the supp category.
Also, can you break down who was sent where in your Gold game and tell me why it was a bad thing? I'm not familiar with who counters who and/or why you don't want to go vs someone in a lane.

what
she has two stuns, one aoe that also slows those on its edges
her passive basically amplifies the damage that her teammates deal and she has great initiation, she also has some other not so obvious things like being able to kill wards when they're dropped onto her, thanks to an auto-attack reset that hits twice

I had a similar experience. After an absolutely incredible Thresh game, I tried Nami and just faceplanted everywhere (Twitch left lane 7/1/1). It happens

Leona is sent support because she benefits only marginally from items and has very little standalone damage (or at least damage that will scale). The strength of her kit comes from the immense amount of free defensive stats, cc, and initiation potential. This makes her a nice support, as even if all you get in game is boots, sightstone, you'll still be useful just for you ability to lock down priority targets. In lane your job is to wait for the opposing adc to get caught out and all in them. She works well with graves in particular as his bursty kit are well suited to all ining opponents. Plus when they both hit 6, free kills just start appearing. Leona's big weaknesses are:
1.) Not ranged. This means that you really have no harass potential, only all in. Additionally, she's easy to harass with champs like sona or lulu which make her all in more risky.
2.) If she falls behind, she will likely stay behind. With her kit requireing her to hard dive the enemy, if she falls 2-3 levels behind everyone she'll likely pop her e and die before her q even lands.
----------------------------------------------
As for Sacredmesa's game, he had said that his team opted to send their adc top, and two bruisers bot. First it's appropriate to give a quick rundown of the meta, and why it is the way it is:
Standard meta for everyone except stratospheric elos and the pros is to send ap mid, bruiser top, adc and support bot, and one jungler. The purpose of this is to maximize gold intake, as each of the lanes are only being farmed by one individual. Supports are put with adcs to protect their individually weak early games. Those two are generally put bot to keep the majority of the team positioned around Dragon (meaning that if an enemy can be picked off, the majority of the team will be in position to capitalize on this to take dragon off the advantage). APs are generally sent mid, as they often lack escapes (it's the shortest lane) and it gives them the most flexibility to roam (as they tend to ahve a lot of early CC and their damage tends to peak closer to early and mid game). Bruisers are sent top as they tend to have the escapes and durability to withstand the additional risk that comes from the long lane. There is some flexibility between Bruiser and APs as each tend to have earlier peaks in damage and CC making it a little more interchangable where you send each.
Now in Sacredmesa's game, the team opted to not grab a conventional support, and instead take two bruisers (Lee sin and Riven) and send them bot. This off the bat is a gambit. Bruisers don't scale particularly well (as they tend to be melee and therefore need to buy durability to not be blown up in late game fights), so sending two to share gold and experience bot lane will leave them both at a level and gold disadvantage as the game progresses. The ideal situation is that they will be able to use their early game power to bully the much weaker vayne away from cs, maybe pick up some kills, and use that to snowball to a much stronger mid game. If they aren't able to accomplish this however, their team will quickly collapse with two underlevel bruisers who have wasted their power spike.
Secondly, the team opted to send SM's Varus top. I will start by pointing out that sending ADC's top isn't unheard of (you sacrifice your top bruiser for an additional adc late game, and rely on a tanky jungle to provide initiation). To be pulled off successfully however, it's generally best to send someone with good kiting potential, as many bruisers had gap closers that will render an ADC's range useless and abuse their low early damage output. Examples of good top ADCs are Vayne, Ezreal, Corki(?) as they all have good escapes/reliable counter engages. Varus has a lot of early game damage and will be able to bully most bruisers for the first few levels. Against a Wukong though, as SM noted, when he hits 6, the sheer burst damage that jump, armor shred, knockup will do is insane. Without a means to get back, the damage will annihilate him.
Therefore, because the double bruisers were not able to pound vayne, they were not in a position to reprieve varus before Wu hit 6 and so 3/5 members of the team were then stuck in an awful prediciment of being shut out against a late game hyper carry, and the game was over by lvl 6

Corki confirmed, except that he's not in a great place right now overall. Ez, Caitlyn, Vayne and Corki are typical solo lane ADC choices, and Draven can work matchup by matchup simply because his early game is every bit as strong as most bruisers - it ends up being a matter of who his opponent is.
back to autolocking(finally broke it, yay :)) because too many people are playing Anivia and have little experience so we end up having a pathetic score
so basically an example of what would usually happen is that there is an Anivia that was very inexperienced and couldn't decide what he should be. i said try support, it's easy and you can get a lot of kills or assists by freezing people. this is safer as we have a tendency of getting a better score and less deaths)
one game, turns out one fool(cho-gath) decides to go bot with him and Ezreal. we try to persuade him to go top, but he won't listen(we even tried spanish!). as Mid and my trying to keep my yellow ribbon alive for no good reason, i roam around as mid like the great roamer i am(acting smug, i'm not THAT good) and end up with most kills and assists it was a weird game though.
another time, someone said that we should all have teleport and another skill and all 5 of us go jungle and 5 gank.
we beat Baron at lvl 7 and the dragon at lvl 10, got 2 deaths total, lost 3 turrets(first of each lane), and had a great time it wasn't a bad strategy, but we stopped using it second game.
and now i want Malzahar as a champ(i tried him too), my list never ends
and does anyone know which champs use something other than mana to cast spells? they seem fun to use.

That 90% banrate though, yeesh.
I kept up in cs with solo lanes, it was fun just farming and pressing R.
His ganks with his wall are pretty sweet too, just be careful because he is really squishy against bruisers.

Support Syndra is amazing and I don't really know why it hasn't caught on more. Her utility isn't great after lane phase, but it's not nothing either.
Also, promoted back into silver 1. Now to go for gold.
