Looks like Pokemon Z version is officially confirmed with the new Legendary Pokemon Zygarde which is a Dragon/Ground Type that's the closest thing to a Mega Dunsparce that we'll get in Gen VI. Here's the video If you don't believe me:
It's legit cause it's leaked from people in Canada and Italy that got the new Pokemon X and Y games last week before the official worldwide release date on October 12th. I also saw some more Pokemon X and Y leaks with Mega Dragonite and Mega Gardevoir as well as how to evolve Eevee into Sylveon.

I'm excited for the new games. I know a lot of people are disappointed by the small roster expansion, but honestly the major changes they're making to the game, combined with the excellent reviews, is more than enough for me to feel good about it.
I randomly came across this as a news item on the BBC, and I thought are these seriously the names of these upcoming games and I also thought of this thread.
After watching the trailer again it looks like it could evolve into Fire/Psychic.
Actually...it also looks like Chespin could evolve into Grass/Dark and Froakie could evolve into Water/Fighting. Huh.
This would have been interesting, as each starter would have been able to deal with each other. IIRC, Fighting is effective against Dark, which is effective against Psychic, which is effective against Fighting. (Yes?)
The introduction of Fairy as a type is welcome, particularly if it is to become level things out, by suppressing too-commonly-utilised types and promoting infrequently-utilised types. As happened last time with Metal (and Magnemite/Magneton), folks are getting PO'd about type changes. What's new now? A lot, but also not a lot.
This looks interesting, but that's like all new things. All right; I've wasted enough time here, on Serebii.net, and Bulbapedia.
My only question is whether the next 6th gen game will be like the old times (3rd version), or whether it'll be like Black&White. I'm more a solo player, so I'm not too interested in too many versions like BW2.
On a lighter note, during launch in my area, I saw someone leaving a Substitute doll when waiting for the stores to open. So cute
So any idea on how we should choose between buying X and Y?
I am not fond of memes, but 'why don't we have both?' (yes, this is a reference to the Old El Paso commercial).
IIRC, Pokémon was, at some level, about collecting them all, and you would require both games from a generation (or a mate with the other game) to complete your Pokédex.
Unless things have changed radically, or you do have a friend with the complementary game, wouldn't you get them both?
Edit: You've mentioned you're a collector of the games too. So that's sorted!
Just curious but how old are you guys? Pokémon used to be acceptable for me before school, work and ageing, like, 20+ years. (That is taste of life for you young'uns. Life is mostly shades of gray, and that's what you must live for!)

I'm 20-something, though I like playing Pokemon primarily because it's an RPG (of sorts) that can take hours to play (understatingly), and it's a good thing to pass the time with

Life can be a tough thing to pass the time with.
What am I talking about? I already waste too much time, don't do enough life things, and all work and no play...
Not that I want it to end, but I wonder when the Pokémon franchise will become something solely of history and not currency.
I myself tried Pokémon throughout the first, second, and third generations. I thought it was fun while it was, but I could have done something else (and, later, more appropriate) with those hours. (I could build to something that mattered, and that's important.) Moreover, having to keep up (e.g., new Pokémon, new moves, new worlds; basically, things of little significance beyond the Pokémon world) was really a pain in the arse.
Ok i have not played or been involved with pokemon since the original Red/Blue/Green versions so i have a couple of questions:
1. How user friendly are the new pokemon games? I ask because im going to be buying this for my kids (10 & 6) for their birthdays together with the new 2DS.
2. How much 'addiction' can these games cause kids? (lets not take parenting into account here, just how likely a kid is to immerse himself in the game at the expense of other responsabilities)
3. What should i expect my kids to complain/have problems with in regards to the new pokemon games?
4. What pokemons should i recommend my kids to start looking for?

4. What pokemons should i recommend my kids to start looking for?
1. I'd say very friendly. So much so that the gameplay tips can even bore veterans in the beginning.
2. Well, if you played Red/Blue, you should know that they can get pretty addictive. Some control on the amount of play hours may be necessary.
3. No idea. They're pretty fun.
4. Not sure. It depends on personal preference, so I don't think there's an universal answer to this.

1. I'd say very. Remember, these games have a target audience of 8-12 years old, generally.
2. It can be somewhat addicting, so you'll have to keep an eye out on them.
3. Impossible to answer right now, as very few people have played the game enough to comment on difficult sections.
4. Let them have fun with it, don't recommend them search for any of them. Part of the joy of pokemon is finding out which ones you like and don't like on your own.
Oh man Sepiriel, you're bringing me back to when I was a kid out of allowance money and my parents agreed to buy me Pokemon Yellow if I completed a list of like 15 chores. Childhood.
I have both games and they are fun. I'm not gonna spoil any fun, but it is quite easy to get some pikachus at the beggining. And Fenekin is fun to use!

I definitely agree with that - Fairy type is pretty useful.

Oh well i suppose ill have to ensure the poke-curfews are followed.
Hopefully my kids wont have problems with the whole IV stat or other such nonsense
IV's don't mean anything unless you want to play competitively, honestly. I've never worried about them, I just plays through the games for fun.
