Do you mean Tariel? And what do you need to prove? We all know your sadistic, I mean doesn't being Sadistic go hand in hand with being a World Project Leader or a Dungeon Master?
Tyrael, in Gully's quest. Fog, Holy Day and Darkness to stall out, while Skyshroud Rangers pumped out lands at an absurd rate, culminating in 2 Cabal Coffers, an Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth, and a Consume Spirit, if memory recalls, that amounted to 60-something damage, I think.

You're thinking of masochism, here, which is another thing entirely. Some DMs exhibit both traits and are described as sadomasocistic. Caex definitely falls to this category.
Seriously, anyone who is willing to spend hours in preparation of some plan that they know will get shredded to pieces and railroaded to the 89th layer of abyss for Dagon to laugh at is exhibiting at least some masochistic qualities.
I mean, I could get it if they just did it out of obligation, but those DMs tell that they like doing it. Crazy people, I tell you. Crazy.

The Sage is occupied with the unspoken
and acts without effort.
Teaching without verbosity,
producing without possessing,
creating without regard to result,
claiming nothing,
the Sage has nothing to lose.
Masochism is pleasure derived from being subjected to pain, suffering, and humiliation. How does this apply to Dungeon Masters? I traditionally think of them as deriving pleasure by inflicting those things on their players, not from having their players inflict it on themselves.
As for the so-called masochism of having all their carefully laid out plans ripped to shreds. I don't see it.

Any DM/WPL that thinks they are truly and completely in control (Aside from spontaneous meteor strikes) are the definition of masochists.
It eats up too much time to be completely in control. That and it's no fun knowing exactly how things are going to turn out. It's far more fun to allow the players to explore what you've set up. Entertaining too, when you let them negotiate a deal with some power only to have that power trick them into horrible conditions for said deal.
So get the game and feel free to add me to your buddy list. LockeNKant is my steam account, though you may need to send the request to Locke_Kant, I forget. Still, lots of fun is to be had in that game.
I never try to be completely in control when i run things. It always ends up badly although I am an avid supporter of gentle reminding to place players back on track. Granted that reminds me of a time that my DM got tired of all of us running of track and decided to send us up against about 100 orks. Needless to say it did not end well for said orks. Or that time Giga died in CoC before we even got his character into any form of a story line. Man those stairs they can be so cruel to some people.

His character was probably spared the horrors of your world by dying in such a way that left him blissfully ignorant to the Armageddon you were bound to unleash upon said world.

I thought I picked up someone mentioning me on my crystal-ball-o-evil.
And yes, I do tend to spend an hour to think up a plot that I know the PCs will probably ruin with a single well-placed Disjunction spell. There are several moments in the Flames of War campaign that are perfect examples of that.
But punishing mistakes is just as fun as seeing the characters succeed, I think. Don't use your resources properly: get beat down. Simple cause and effect. Plus complicated evil plots and traps are fun to create, even if they don't work.
Everything scares me... kitties scare me... squirrels scare me... corpses....corpses bring forth a pletora of confusing feeling which i prefer not to dwell on...:p

Or stand looking stupid at an urn, and be prepared for the biggest thing they find of you to be a finger.

I remember reading that. That was the first time I thought "These WPLs are serious...". The scariest part was knowing I would have probably done the same thing Oris did

Just remember that, should I take back the mantle of WPL. When I start giving hints to run...run.
Noted On the topic of the new Clan Contest, I'd be willing to represent [Planar Chaos] if no one else steps up. I'd rather not though. I know there are far more experienced mafia players in our Clan than me
Oh, is that so? Well, that's unfortunate. I wouldn't know since I've only seen you play one game, but I can't imagine why players would want to lynch you (at least, if you're town).
Krensae, yeah? That was unfortunate. The only character death I completely saw coming was Long-Fur's. I have no idea how he could've talked his way out of that one...
(After being reminded) Oh yeah, that one. There are some things you just don't do...
It's a shame. I thought that quest had potential. Shame the players got stuck on one least-significant part, and followed it through to its (il)logical conclusion.

Or more like, the DM gets to the mindset of a villain, but has to insert self-defeating traits in him/her in order to give players a chance.
You are thinking of sexual masochism, which is a subcategory of Masochistic Personality Disorder.

Thinking of Kennar here.
