Sad robot makes me happy
Add amulet of vigor to get all your basics. Edh is nice because combos like that can be viable even though they were never legal in standard and aren't viable in legacy. Like that one.
I'd be MUCH more likely to use Lotus Cobra, because it's not a card that's just awful.
Still, even Lotus Cobra isn't good enough for normal use and so doesn't get consideration for EDH. He's just not stable. Getting 6 free lands accelerated from an on-board trick was sufficient.
I don't think I'm going to buy a lot of M12, maybe 1-2 boxes and a few singles, but I do think I like what it'll do to the format. Getting some awesome reprints. Also, Sundial of the Infinite is hilarious and way more useful than it should be. Even just in T2, it lets you keep tokens from Splinter Twin/Mimic Vat, it makes Glimmerpoint Stag's removal permanent, and it makes Postmortem Lunge and Gruesome Encore into actual reanimation spells. This in addition to blanking EOT shenanigans from your opponent. Sadly, the density of good effects for this may not be high enough.
In case anyone hasn't noticed, we got visited by the Tier 1 faerie last night. Minions I give you: Smallpox
M12 is a far cry from Xth, I can confidently say that.
Ladys and Gentleghouls, we are back.

Yeah, total surprise! I also really like how the new printing has this amazing flavor text that doesn't fit the card at all! Oh wait... (Totally using my TSP copies.)
Immediately thinking on the lack of a Tarmo-Rack port (Skinshifter is really cool but I do not want to think of that mana base), I'm reminded of another goodie I never thought I'd see reprinted. This is a rough list but I like how it looks on paper:
Even more than the thought of playing a Pox deck again, I'm surprised at how counter Smallpox is to so many things they've said about core sets. Newbie friendly? Nope. Good for the risk-averse? Nope. Painless? Nope. Avoids efficient mana denial? Nope. One of the most cruel cards ever? Yep.
I leave the spoiler for a few days and it goes nuts. Think black will be just fine in October and the few months til then.
Call to the Grave is also back. Not tier 1 material like smallpox, but still really fun. Speaking of smallpox, I'm reading through the thread on the rumor mill and wow, there are so many noobs who have never seen what a pox deck can do. I'm tempted to start playing standard again with smallpox in, which I haven't done since the original Mirrodin block...
Blackboarder just recently posted an interesting article on the rebirth of Mono-Black midrange. With Jace out of the way, Obliterator is going to be ballin. http://www.blackborder.com/q/node/12351

Worse? On seven mana, it's +3 from Corrupt and it forgives your use of Tectonic Edge, Sphere of the Suns, Lotus Cobra, etc. I like it.
And it doesn't target creatures. That's a big drawback in a world overrun by Titans and other over the curve monsters. Of course, flavor alone will get it into the Sorin deck I've been working on.
Although I do wish the name was a little different. Something like "Sorin's Masterstroke". Or "Sorin's Strike". Vengeance feels too white.

Not being able to hit creatures is certainly a consideration, but a Corrupt hitting a creature is generally a mark of desperation anyway.
He is REALLY good. He starts out a little fragile but he makes a big dude for +1 and the card draw from his -3 isn't targetted! So yeah, that'll be a thing. Incidentally, an absurd ultimate.

He is SO going in my Multani EDH deck.
He is the best walker coming out. He ends games 2 different ways... If you don't have a threat, he makes a beast to protect because... well it's garruk.
If you ahve a threat, he'll dreaw you 4 or 5 or 10 and basically end the game at that point
If you get his ultimate off, you were going to win anyway
I'm playing mono green GARRUK!
I'm palying blue red counter-burn
and I'm playing lavamancer pox shenanigans!

Yeah but having the option of removing a threat is good to have. Plus the lifegain you earn from removing said threat will often take you out of desperation mode, espically if you have a phyrexian arena or necropotence with that corrupt. Also note that corrupt scales: corrupt can deal more then 10 damage. Not often, but the option is there if you're in a game of EDH. Or if you're playing MBC, which the card was made for.
The conditions in which Sorin's Vengeance would be superior to corrupt would be when Sorin's Vengeance can win you the game, but corrupt can't. For that to happen, your opponent has to be at 10 life and you have to have 7, 8, or 9 lands in play. Or if Sorin himself is on the board and its your turn. Granted, Sorin's Vengeance is more splashable then corrupt, but I don't see a card with triple mana symbols being splashed very often.
The situations where Sorin's Vengeance > Corrupt though, are few and far between. Hence, corrupt is better then Sorin's Vengeance; not strictly better, I'll concede that much, but in most situations, I'll still take corrupt over Sorin's Vengeance.
He is REALLY good. He starts out a little fragile but he makes a big dude for +1 and the card draw from his -3 isn't targetted! So yeah, that'll be a thing. Incidentally, an absurd ultimate.

That invitational card has been sitting in limbo for some years now, if I recall. Also, I HIGHLY doubt the card will be printed as is. Wotc will almost certainly do something to it. Whenever or not it will still be playable afterwards though, is a different question.
The new Garruck costs 5. If history is anything to go by, 4 is the magic number for walkers. 5 sees fringe play. The triple green makes it non-splashable. For EDH though...
That card would be good printed. From what people are speculating (and I kind of agree) They'll slap a condition on it (counter target CREATURE spell) or so. Which would stink. I honestly don't think it would be as worping as you'd think. Though a 4cc "~ can't be countered. Counter target spell" is pretty good. I'd probably see it come as:
T: Add 1 to your mana pool. 2UU, sacrifice ~: Counter target spell.
or even
UU, discard a card, sacrifice ~: Counter target spell.

Ready for the apocalypses? The dark side is always open
So Ive decided that in addition to the Mirri and Linvala EDH decks that I want to build a Thelon of Havenwood tokens deck and a Empress Galina control deck. But am lost as to where to go with them.
so, i'd really like to be in this clan, and all i really have to do is submit a mono-black decklist? although my absolute favorite color in the game is black, i've never really made a mono-black deck. this should be interesting.
thank you! i love zombies and always wanted to make a vial-zombie deck with the theory that "it's like merfolk but with hymns/siezes instead of fows!". the problem is that there isn't very many powerful two drops like there are in merfolk; mostly just 3s with some 4s. hopefully dark ritual helps somewhat; it is a very nice application merfolk doesn't have. getting a lord turn 1 or a warchief turn 2 is nothing to laugh at. and of course you could also cast an aether vial along with a hymn to tourach turn 1... that would be quite nice.
btw, i played against a vial-vampire deck recently that was quite powerful. it has lower cc creatures, which helps, but some of the most powerful are unfortunately too costly (nocturnus). however, the guy still played the nocturnuses and got away with it pretty consistently using mox diamond/chrome mox. but i like zombies better
I like tomathan already that looks similar to the list I submitted here.
lol thanks haha
i can't wait to get my own title... disciple of geth.. or maybe liliana, sorin, Mephistopheles... or maybe even disciple of that blob-like egg thing standing next to dark confidant (assuming the guy in the front is the acctual dark confidant and not the egg-man himself; i'm not quite sure).
and i'm a little curious about something: i can play non-black decks and not get kicked out of the clan or anything right? i mean, i really doubt it would be that harsh, but this forum sounds so dedicated to the one color.. lol
No we wont revoke your Man card if you happen to dabble in the other colors. We all test the waters now and again. But we always return to the glory of Mono-B once we realize the folly of those other mana.

Lol, that would be awful! I play mainly Red, Black, and Blue. I probably play more red/blue now. But my past contains daaaark daaark roots. My soul was consumed by Tourach many years ago. So as far as it may appear that I drift away from black, the urge to Rit -> Hippy will ALWAYS be in my blood.
... And hymn should be in every deck.. black or not >_>
Played FNM last night, played Pyro-Twin. Did well (4-1) I hit:
Boros, Vamps, Bu Control, Valakut, Caw-blade... erm caw-go little jace?, and WW-craft-quest-paladin
Also saw infect of different varieties, and mono-red of different varieties.
My meta looks like it will be Black, Valakut, and Twin. But the biggest surprise in Bu Control, He went 4-1 taking down Me, valakut x2, and Vamps. It looked like all answers and value with 3x obliterater and Tar-pits as win cons...
Funny side note: 3 people came with Caw-Blade and were super pissed...

I'm a little curious as to how you think we'd know what you where playing.
In any case, I finally got a chance to draft PBS last night and my first 3 cards where phyrexian mana and the 3 after that where artifact, I had to show the guys who talked me in to playing so they could understand why after 6 picks I was frustrated I didn't have any colors picked yet. Not a fan of drafting backwards.
Any one noticing anything really bonkers at FNM now that jace and SFM are gone? I got knocked out of top 8 by UWG allies friday playing B/r vamps and seriously didn't see it coming.

In other news, an invitational card incoming with Innistrad: http://forums.mtgsalvation.com/showthread.php?t=335445
As submitted, that would be so ridiculously unfair... Screw Jace, how about having your excess land drops be uncounterable counterspells?
