To slaughter an old cliche' (too lazy to find that hot key), "agro is the new black" lately. Driving me a little nuts. Big reason I avoided gameday altogether. That and my girlfriend's birthday weekend.

My Clan Is Dead.... Long Live The Izzet! Johnny, born and raised. Always lookin' for the Next Level Combo. Thanks to Bornover of FHLS for the banner!
It official I'm holding a grudge against aggo and I will build a control deck without tezz that will slaughter all those sorry ass aggro decks that I played against I will not lose to another goblin deck god hand. Mark my words
So in trying to build an elf based EDH deck for fun I have realized that elves, when taken in the context of the entire history of magic, are really over powered as a tribe :-p

Now we know sleep is essiental , but yeah, you will do better next time Pheon!
False.
Its actually very replaceable. All you need is the right amount of coffee and you can go all 6 rounds and top eight on very little sleep.
Its only a factor when you play a 10 round tournament on about four hours. The wheels fell off somewhere around the last 2 rounds when I tec edged his valakut for no value making it so I couldn't cast the mindslaver I had preordained into next turn.

Why wouldn't you play a control deck with Tezz and six sweepers between main and side (Answer: You get curb stomped by Valakut)? You shouldn't lose to aggro, though.
I did game day as well. The first one I've ever played in due to my old job sucking horribly and my sleeping through Scars game day. My roommate and I both played red decks almost exactly like Patrick Sullivan's deck from Edison. Biggest difference in the main deck was he had Ember Hauler, we had Kargan Dragonlord. I think now that more people are remembering lightning bolt is good, the Hauler is better. He also had +2 Koth and the spikeshot elders but aside from that, the 2 decks were very close to the same.
Round one I got paired against UW Caw-Blade. I should just crush this match-up (I do game one despite it going long and him seeing 2 Gideons. Must be nice.), but of course, he's the one person in the room on the 3x Kor Firewalker sb plan. I bring in Perilous Myr over Geopede for game 3. I keep a hand with one Perilous Myr, some burn and a Guide. He has the double fire walker draw and wins. I was live if he only had one!
Round 2 I get paired against Valakut. Game one Kargan Dragonlord got there (with some help from Koth). I asked him if he could summoning trap into anything with reach after he passed the turn back to me with six mana up and no play. He was at 9 and I had Koth at 2 wich gives me enough mana to go to level 8 and firebreath FTW. Game two he gets turn six Titan. Which was pretty good considering I'd been holding Mark of Mutiny all game.
Round 3 I get the pair down against my friend playing monoblack discard. I keep the one mountain, 2x Guide, Bolt, Burst, random cards I can't cast hand. It gets there. Game 2 he floods and I just play more dudes then he has kill spells for and burn him down to zero.
Round 4 I get paired against B/R Vampires. I crush game one but games 2 and 3 I draw nothing but land and loose. Its a game of skill.
Now I'm playing for 9th place with the super outside shot to get in top eight. The only person with worse tiebreakers than me is my other friend playing Boros. So we're paired in the next round. Game one comes down to him drawing nothing but land after I've killed all of his creatures (thanks, Staggershock). I needed land to kill him 3 turns earlier with my 2x Geopedes. I guess he was drawing enough land for both of us, though. Game 2 I really don't remember that well. I definitely won though.
In the last round I get paired against a good valakut player. He beats me game one without actually casting titan, just harrows and khalni heart expeditions to get there. Main deck Lightning bolt stops my dragonlord from going the distance and killing him like it did my last valakut opponent. Game two I kill him the turn before he can kill me. Game three he gets titan out with 3 Valakut's in play and gets Khalni heart active. Unfortunately, he was expecting mark of mutiny and save the expedition for when I tried to take his titan, killing it and my team. Definitely lost that game.
Bummer clem. I managed to go 2-3 on game day. I was playing a UW control deck that loves me some proliferation, don't get me wrong its not pro tour bit when it was build in the meta of my area for almost 4 weeks of playing in thirty plus people FNM it came out first twice and top four the rest. It was by far the meanest home brew I have ever built. The problem I have is it looks like angry aggro and tezz control are going to be the two most prominent types of decks in my area. I want to crush both without mercy. Valakut for some reason has strayed away from my area and is not nearly as good. Sooner or later I will have a build and I will post the schnenanigans of the deck.
Has anyone else ever given up on a forum here? I started the thread for the deck I play, which I love, but it's gotten to the point of everyone trying to shove other cards in it to make it a different archetype or completely change the colors of the deck, etc. Great example? The first two days of the thread, 90% of the posters were trying to shove Tezzeret into white weenie. Ugh...

South Africa, primarily.
I didn't get to go to game day, but I hardly have time for Magic these days, at least on a store level. And I really only use the forum for clan and I'm starting Mafia again now.

I use to spend a lot of time with threads on deck construction and I slowly realized I wasn't impressed at all. Anymore I usually either build , lose, rebuild. Or take a netdeck off starcity and adapt to my meta.
Lol, well I have a playgroup like that, but for some reason, my Azusa keeps winning. It won again tonight. I think it needs a little retooling, but the stupid thing keeps on eliminating decks like Clique, Azami, etc.

I'm astonished at the pure amount of terrible ideas in each thread. I can't believe that people actually take the time to post them.
I think I probably played against one of the people your talking about in DC. I thought he was playing some screwed up version of Hawkward until he killed my Tezzeret with his. Unfortunately for him, I'm a professional and had Preordained into the second one to continue the beat down.
Speaking of Opens, is anyone going to Memphis? Its looking pretty likely that I go to that one too.
A combination of accidentally deleting my subscription to the Clan thread without my knowledge and being on spring break have led to my prolonged absence. I'm having a great time skiing in Colorado with my dad, but I'm starting to miss my friends back home a little. Glad to hear that everyone seems to be doing well!
That reminds me, do I need to get my setup reviewed by someone? If so, can you do it?
You don't need to have it reviewed, but it's highly recommended, especially if it'll be your first hosting experience. Shoot me a PM when you get a chance and I'll take a look.
It's nice to play a format where you only need to shell out for one Jace or and one tarmagoyf.
I play more Cube than any other format, but even then I only play Cube about once or twice a month. I'm more of a casual observer of Magic than a player nowadays.
@ SC Is there an official website for the Commander Cast? If so I will enjoy listening to you rather than Lady Gaga. It would be more edcautional to me in a way.
From a narrative standpoint it just doesn't make any sense to me that the Phyrexians would lose. For about half of Magic's Existence they have been the main villain in the storyline and then they did what every good comic villain does. Disappears for a while but leaves hints of their return (As an aside, this, to me, is why Heroes failed. If they had let Sylar disappear for a season or 2 after season 1 that show would have blown peoples mind. That and the beginning of season 3.... that sucked.). And, we just got them back! Why set up the idea that the greatest villain of all time has returned and if the Mirrans fall the whole UNIVERSE is in danger and then say "Oop, nevermind, the Mirrans got it." I think that will be anti-climactic and unexciting, that's why I hope it's Phyrexia. Not because I like rooting for the bad guy, but because I think it will open the door to more interesting stories to have them win.
1. Phyrexia!
2. Niv-Mizzet is too cool to pick a side.
3. Heroes got worse because the writers strike resulted in an aborted second season. From there they kind of scrambled to write decent storylines, with mixed results. I like Season Three a lot because I found Arthur to be a fascinating character and I like learning about characters' backstories, but Seasons Two and Four were pretty mediocre (although The Wall was fantastic). You may remember I had a Heroes-themed avatar and banner for a while.

Ugh, these are the same people trying to actually convince others to run more blue MD so they can play Preordain... in all in aggro... god I hate these forums some times.

It's awesome! I haven't been skiing in Colorado since high school four years ago, so this is some of the best fun I've had in ages. Like I said, though, I'm starting to miss some of my friends, specifically a certain lady friend.

Joboman and Neon__lights are heading to the Erratic Portal for not posting since the Clan thread went up. Their last posts in the last thread where in September and June of 2010, respectively.
Two Apprentices will be promoted to Acolyte.

I will agree that the writers strike was beginning of the end, but being a comic book fan I can tell you there may have been other forces at play (A certain executive producer/head writer they let go halfway through season 3). I like the second half of season 3 a lot, but LOATHE the first half. I think Arthur is an interesting character, but they mishandled him big time. For instance, having your villain show how badass he is by killing the previous seasons villain the first time you see him is lazy (Not to mention a HUGE waste of potential by getting rid of Adam Monroe (David Anders did an amazing job in that role.)). And for a dude who they had been talking up since season 1 as the founder of the company and a good guy with problems and delusions of grandeur he just came across as flat out evil. I just hoped for a lot more after season 1 which was fantastic, but as I said, I think that it can mostly be attributed to the writer/executive producer they got rid of. I was kind of enjoying season 4 but I never finished it. Maybe I should go back and do that.
