Get a job at a call centre, or line up like everybody else at the Millionaires club and get day work. It may not be glamour but it sure gets cash in your hand. FYI you will work hard, hard, hard.
Updating the first and second posts is a good idea. The Coffeehouse has been very slow lately. Anything we can do to bring it up to date and fix it up will help.
Hey all! *waves* So what's going on?
I'm just wandering away from the Altered Art thread that I seem to be glued to most of the time.
Gotta keep churning the stuff out, you know? In fact, I may set up on the table over here and paint a bit while I hang out.
What's everyone think of the whole altered art craze that sparked up about 3 years ago?

I think it's fantastic personally. I absolutely love yours (and others work) in said thread as I am an avid lurker there :). I particularly love the anime themed ones.
Haha, thank you very much.
Things have changed a lot since its inception, but one thing is for certain, it doesn't look like it's going to stop anytime soon.

Who do I see about a Chai Latte?
You're welcome and that's good...I love looking at them :).
As for the Chai Latte, that would be Omna...she should be in sometime shortly I am sure :).
Alters are amazing. They are rare and unusual, and they make the remaining un-altered cards rarer as well.
Although I envy your skillls, and those of sandreline, Ron Spencer, Nerea Iturgaiz, 4 horsemen, bigup, poxy and the Russian kids, ya gotta hand it to Vroman for really getting it all started at MTGS. His have a sense of humour to them.
What's everyone think of the whole altered art craze that sparked up about 3 years ago?
Welcome, mon ami. As to the topic, I think the appropriate words are "pure awe." Personally, I've always thought of those as better than foils because of how much rarer they are. Especially to find ones that fit the player playing the cards. I should probably pick up a few just to display around here even though I don't play anymore.
And to add to that I think it's actually a REALLY good jumping point for people who are interested in art. You already have a base to work with and it lets you build around it and show off both what you can do with established starts and what you can actually do on your own.
So to all the producers of altered art cards, I salute you.
Heh good morning all.... A chai latte? sure thing Here you go *hands Chai Latte* Hope you enjoy!
I wouldn't mind sprucing up the first post but I really wouldn't know where to start... Alacar has usually helped me with that kind of thing in the past... i don't know where he got off saying "I'm sure Danica can take care of it.. she's good at that kind of thing"
Give me some suggestions all, and when i have a free moment i can try to do something about it..
1. Move former and quit-users to an Emeritus list or remove them entirely
2. Make a list of regulars - if they have over some percent of the total posts in the thread, they get billing, if not they get put on -->
3. Make a list of occasionals and friends. Anybody not a regular is in this group. Make it clear how they can become a regular - by posting more.
4. Keep the menu and organize it. Make it fit in with the humour and social "fit" of the coffeehouse. Remove items that seem awkward.
5. If people want a special "role" title next to their name in the coffeehouse, have them PM you and ask for one with a brief note about why their idea of a title 'fits" them. If people don't do this, remove the titles.
The entire post should NOT require you to scroll down! Use tables and other layout tools as needed.
Personally, I find the holiday specific parts to be a bit awkward to stay up throughout the year. It might be best to shove those onto Google docs (or something at least) and repost them around the appropriate holiday.
Random Cuteness seems like it needs more cute too - but then again there's an entire blog for that.
And why wouldn't it be a good idea to keep the titles that have been there since the beginning?
There's a lot of people on the regulars list who have simply not been online in over a year.
The titles and blurbs are fine, but could be briefer. It's also good that you're keeping up to date on name changes.
It seems kind of cluttered but then again, the Coffeehouse is 4 years old and has a lot of history. Also, it brings back a lot of memories to go through the first post and that makes it harder to choose what to leave out or shorten.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When I come in and think about the Coffeehouse, I picture in my mind's eye a specific coffee shop from my college days. I can't help it, it just springs into view as I mentally picture Shinobi hopping the counter to grab an iced chai and a muffin, or Alacar sitting in the corner under the window tapping out something on his laptop.
That place is the Grand Illusion, the coffee shop/indie movie theatre on 50th St and University Way in Seattle. It's probably long gone now, but for a while it was where I went to be creative and caffeine up. The folks there were super friendly, laid-back, and as much a part of the neighborhood as any of the customers. They remembered your order if they knew you on sight. Often they would have someone playing guitar or even a whole band for an evening after regular hours. You could grab a giant mug of cappucino and go catch a nice European movie or a reshowing of the Directors Cut of some sci-fi classic.
Magic was welcome, as long as you had a cuppa in front of you. Most of us just went there to socialize or study and get some of their awesome Nanaimo bars and hot steaming chai, and admire the local artists' works featured on the walls by way of a sort of informal gallery.
Definitely gone, but not forgotten. That's my mental image of the Coffeehouse. It's where people meet and ideas are born, and a symbol of what a coffeehouse should be.
How about you guys? Is there a special place that comes to mind when you think Coffeehouse, or is it a more abstract concept? When you picture one another dropping by, what familiar image comes to mind?
that's true, Starr.. it does have a lot of history and its really difficult to (for me anyhow) whittle all that down....
For me, the image that comes up is a place that kinda mixes together a few coffeeshops in my history.. One was an internet cafe in downtown Medford (my hometown in Oregon) that has long since shut its doors.. it was always great cuz I would stop in there after school and hang out there until I walked to the public library to be picked up by my mom... It had computers, comfy couches, amaaaaaaaaaazing cheesecake.. it was light and airy too, a lot o' windows, with a back room for the computers.
Yet another spot that kinda comes to mind, and was always kind of the epitome of the coffeehouse was Java's in downtown Rochester, my college town and where I live now. It was a classic artsy type of cafe, lots of organic sandwiches, and crazy decor, art and mirrors on the walls, real dark and intimate... a steel bar that you ordered the greatest drinks at.. My favorite was a Terrapin, a kind of caramel, hazelnut coffee drink with pleeeenty of whipped cream and chocolate sprinkles on top. Ryan and I went there a couple times and always kind of toasted each other in honor of the CoffeeHouse..
Then again, there never quite seems to be one that completely fits what I see the coffeehouse being.... I imagine a wide open space (like the internet cafe) with plenty of room to talk to each other, conversations being thrown across the room, Alacar manning the diabolical cappucino machine, a huge list behind the counter written in chalk (like Java's) and everyone just feeling completely at home in one or another comfy armchair or beanbag, like PurpleD... and who could forget some of the antics under those invisible blankets by the fire.... (that's another thing... warm cozy fireplace too)...
Its amazing the amount of memories we have here, and the things I can imagine happening, even if they never "physically" happened...
btw Starr.. you and I were one of the first to meet up in real life.. Was i what you imagined when you met me? Always been curious- and maybe we talked about this before lol. but its fun to recall
Hey guys. Just poking my head in here 'cause I'm lonely and have nothing to do tonight. I should probably go to bed. But hey. Tomorrow is Towel Day, so don't forget your towel. I'm bringing it with me everywhere I go.
I'll be back, most likely. Still not sure what's up with the thread title, but hell.
I don't know why but everytime I read this thread it feels like nothing happens. Lets get some discussion going on.

Hey Guys, it was a long time that I didn't make a post here. I found this place quite dead some months ago and now I see it back active again. Also, I have to do school stuff and so forth...
How are you? For me it's fine, a little tired, but still ok. Yesterday I made a 3rd place on a Magic-League Legacy Trial of 48 people:
Yea, Charbelcher is not a really cool deck especially for the opponents, but sometimes I enjoy punish other people that keep bad and uncovered hands without protections.
Round 1: Bant Countertop
Round 2: ANT
Round 3: Bant Countertop
Round 4: ANT
Round 5: Pox with Mindbreak Trap
I won 4 matches, but I've got bad luck against the pox dude since he got always Mindbreak on g2 and g3 and I didn't draw a Xantid Swarm. I'm still happy by the way since I didn't expect to make a big deal from a Belcher deck, better luck next time.
Greetings,
Frozen_Fire
Good job, you beat two decks with force of will that's pretty good. I am glad to see you do well.
Sorry about the pox matchup though.
It's definitely good to see you post in the coffeehouse again. I haven't posted anything either myself lately.
Hey look everyone, it's Shinobi! We had never thought we'd see you again buddy How are you doing?
I wish I could unload all of the recent drama on you Coffee-housers, but I'll just say that my room mate is kicking me out of my apartment and I am in the process of moving out. I didn't want to move, but them's the breaks. Luckily my sister is moving out of her place to Nashville so I'm moving in there. It's been an ordeal cleaning it up but it's ready for me to move in. Plans are for me to move in tomorrow.. at last. We would've done it today if the rain hadn't kept us from getting the furniture out. Sigh.

as long as they know what they're doing, its awesome.
I might have to
followStalk Zaz's example and check out those threads......If Omna is up to it, i don't see how sprucing up the first post could hurt

Anyhow, I better get to class so I'll talk to you all later.
