Strip Magic: I always had a problem with this.. what about lifegain? Aggro decks would beat out control decks. EDH General damage makes more sense.
Here's how my pervert friend (read: him, me, and two other of my friends) used to handle that when he was building up these rules:
1) If you gain life equal to the starting total, you can make someone else lose life equal to stripping one piece of clothing off. This can only be done once per game per player.
2) If you mill someone of an amount of cards that is equal to the same percentage of life total loss that would make someone strip a piece of clothing, they strip a piece of clothing off. Note: You'd have to enforce everyone having the exact same amount of cards in each deck... but for EDH I suppose this isn't a problem.
The second was to make sure everyone wanted to still do what they wanted to with each deck. However, because of that we did have to ban any "you win the game" cards as well as platinum angel...
Awesome, it's good to see the house back together again. Also, hi Hunter44 long time no see. Definitely good to see you stop by again.
As for me, I have to get back to my engineering phsyics studying. I have a exam tommorrow and also a lab report due tommorrow as well so I'll be up pretty late tonight. Stayed up until 3am last night studying my butt off. I just can't wait until tommorrow night after exams.
Yeah clark county is pretty horrible because I used to live there.
I've never built a cube but I've always wanted to. If we did it for the coffeehouse we'd have to make sealed decks out of it--We tried a booster draft thing and it failed.
What does the rest of the House think? A nifty little timewaster?
Definitely a possibility. And thanks to Kraj and Crimson for the kind words.
Welcome back to Mike!!! I agree w/ Kraj, you'll always be the Avatar to me
Wouldn't mind doing the cube thing but somebody would have to explain to me what it involves exactly... I liked the booster draft idea but like Ally said, it failed miserably.
A coffeehouse cube? Hmm. Cube is better in draft, rather than constructed, and since we don't have a way to make cube sealed on the net (yet), would be half pointless. I'll get informed from a friend of mine who cures GCCG. Maybe he can help us towards cube drafting.
I'm not sure if you're referring to exclusively within MWS functionallity, but I don't see doing sealed decks out of a cube as being too tough. Once you have the cube list and the number of people, just use random.org to pull whatever number of cards you want to use for each pool (sealed is normally 84, drafters get 42; the card quality of cube is closer to drafting but you'll still get a random percentage of unplayables due to color, so maybe 60 per person?), rinse and repeat.

*sigh* So commences the bad news.. Yesterday I found out that I lost my job.. Well, I'm being able to stay here for the next month... Friday, November 6th will be my last day.
Awwww. Hang in there babe. Hope you don't get too down. We're always here to help with a few kind words or a joke or two about boobs, if you need those.
Er, jokes. Not boobs. You know what I mean.
Seriously though, if you want to talk about it some time, just hit me up on Skype or facebook, if I'm available. Always there for a friend.
By the way, guys... I'm writing to you from TOKYO. It's a cool place, I hear.
Photon Eater: I'm sorry about not being more sure about coming yet. I want to. If I do, I'll bring my Wii and my party games. I know we'll have fun.
I'm told by Craig that if you do come, we have to opt for the strip club option. Don't worry about it too much, just make sure if you are coming you let me know with some advance- ideally a couple of months, but to be quite honest, in specific circumstances, even a couple of weeks is fine. I just don't want to set a precedent, but one or two people isn't a big deal. The only thing I worry about is accommodations, given that I have a lot of out of town guests coming, and it is prime wedding/graduation party season, and our little town only has so much available room- and I'm already putting up more people than I am really comfortable with, to be totally honest. But hopefully you can come, that would be fun.
Also, how about making a Cube, Photon Eater? That way you can play with your junk cards in a limited format.
I have no idea what a Cube is, and frankly, I'm too lazy to Google it.
By the way, guys... I'm writing to you from TOKYO. It's a cool place, I hear.
Thanks for taking five minutes away from your busy schedule of buying things out of every used pantie machine in Kabukicho to keep us in the loop, Ace.
This gave quite a lot of vivid imagery involving stopwatches, and celebratory exclamations of "Yeah! In your face!" being unusually literal.
There is also a trophy and an international leaderboard.

In a nutshell, it's a large stack of cards hand-picked from your entire collection to draft from. Generally every card included is at the top of the power curve, but you can make it any way you want to.

So it is sort of like drafting, but for people who are too cheap to buy boosters and/or people who want to draft but are too "FINAL DESTINATION, FOX ONLY, NO ITEMS" to run the risk of possibly drafting Moonlace?
That sounds kinda cool. Will have to try that sometime.

I will let you know, and likely if I do I'll get a hotel room, but we will see. I'm fine with just bringing a sleeping bag and napping on the floor if I have to. Just don't shave my eyebrows.

I hate people like that.. I saw them all over the place at GMX last weekend.
A Cube has the potential to be extremely fun. I've always wanted to make one. I should see if the guys that play at my local card shop are up for it.

Honestly, I don't really know what you mean by "final destination, etc." But there are definitely some of the benefits you mention, like being able to remove the chaff from Limited and getting more mileage out of what you already own instead of buying new. There's also other things to it, such as there is usually only one copy of each card in the cube and the cube usually has 30+% more cards in it than actually get drafted, so every card is equally rare and the play experience varies widely because you never know what's going to show up.

I haven't had much experience with it, but if you want to build your own my piece of advice is to keep things like hard counters and removal at a premium. I've played multiplayer cube where nothing ever happens because every time someone plays something relevant, somebody at the table is holding removal or a counterspell.

It's a Smash Bros. meme, where very serious competitive players will often preface a match by stating they will only play as Fox in the stage Final Destination with items turned off. Fox is a very versatile character, typically considered to be one of the highest tier characters, and thus the best to display how skilled of a player you are. The stage Final Destination is small, basic, and gimmick free, leaving the focus on the match on the combat, and with no items, there is no random element to interfere with the match. Basically, it takes everything that is fun and unique about SSB (tons of different characters, low entry curve, unpredictable game play, unusual stages that can swing the tide of a match all over the place, a casual environment) and removes them. Shorthand- it means someone who considers a game to be very serious business, to the point where they end up tossing aside a good 75% or more of the game's features because they don't contribute to their desired environment for testing their skill.

So, are there any Dream Theater fans in the 'house? I recently finished picking up Black Clouds & Silver Linings and I must say, it's much better than Octavarium.
If you've never heard of Dream Theater, I'd suggest going out and listening to The Count of Tuscany, it's a pretty good introduction into that band IMO.
Thanks for taking five minutes away from your busy schedule of buying things out of every used pantie machine in Kabukicho to keep us in the loop, Ace.
I'm actually here for a job interview, and I spent all of yesterday one of: at the hotel, trying to get to the interview, at the interview, or in a cheap restaurant. I almost didn't make it to the interview yesterday due to the typhoon closing a bunch of trains here in Tokyo. Trains NEVER, EVER stop in Japan. It's unheard of. I'm glad I was here and not back in Kyoto... Tokyo just caught the edges of it. So far the word for all of Japan is three dead, 64 injured due to typhoon Melor.
I got an e-mail saying the interview was delayed until 3:00pm, from 1:00pm, so I eventually made it by taking a taxi ($21) instead of the train ($1.70). Good news is that I've survived day one of the interview process, and now I get to go back for day 2. Bad news is I was told I need to improve a lot today, and there are seven other people to compete with. We'll see how things go.
I expect that I won't be back until late again tonight, which means not a lot of time for sightseeing. I'm thinking of staying one more day, meaning I'll reserve a hotel for one more night, just so I can go see some stuff while I'm here. My list of things to see includes Tokyo Tower and the Tokyo-Edo museum, and of course Akihabara, so far.
And oh, a little update on me, I started my work as a purchaser for Toshiba Storage Devices Phils (formerly Fujitsu) back in July 2008.. since then ive been stressed ahahaha.. =)
thanks! you're in Tokyo!??? WOW!!! I always wanted to go to Japan!
Hells yeah!
So, slightly bad news, I didn't get the job today. This was day two of the process, and there were seven other people competing for what I surmise were just a handful of positions. Sucks, but... I'd like more to work for a different company, one that my friend recommended, anyway. I'll be applying to them next.
Now then... that was in Nerima, just off the Seibu-Ikebukuro line. So where did I go next?
Akihabara.
Friends, I have been to the promised land, and I am here to tell you that it is good. It is... so... good. *weeps*
There were maids on the street corners. There was a seven-story Gamers and a seven story AniMate. I have never seen so many cheap electronics stores in my life. ( Edit: Also, I have blogged about the Zendikar box I got from Gamers today. ) I finally found an electronic wristwatch for $10, something I couldn't find in all the rest of my exploits in Japan. There were towering buildings full of arcade game machines. The Mandrake building had two whole floors dedicated to hentai, one for the ladies and one for the guys. There was every kind of old toy you could imagine being retailed. Every kind of old game system and game as well, all the way back to the time of the orginal FamiCom.
It was beautiful.
I'm staying an extra day, and I'm going back tomorrow. I'm also going to hit up Tokyo Tower and the Edo-Tokyo museum tomorrow.
Really? Photon and Crimson Avatar were not around that often lately too?
Yeah, I haven't been here in over a year, and prior to that, my posting was sporadic, a few posts every few months or so. I really haven't been around in some time.

You have lived "THE DREAM." Now what are you going to do with the rest of your life?...
That, and write a book or three. I have a few story ideas, and it's why I was originally an English major. Another thing is, more and more, I feel like I'd like to somehow make a difference in the atheist community. If I could do that by writing a book or running for public office or something, that wouldn't be out of the question... but that's way down the road yet. I've got several years of just traveling around and seeing the world ahead of me.

We didn't, and we were on our way to a cube debut, when we realized this and had to make a detour to the game store to buy 400 spankin new sleeves. In the same iridescent beetle-green as the cube sleeves. Yuck.
@Mr. Stuff: Wow, if you get a job in Akihabara, will we ever see you again? (Good luck!)
@Sep and Hunter: Here's hoping both of you are okay after the typhoon and all the chaos. I don't know exactly where in the P.I. you are, but hope it's on the lee side of the storm.
Today is Friday, and that means Planechase EDH with the broz. It's also Thanksgiving weekend in Canada, so I'm about to hop in the shower and go shopping for stuff. What stuff? I dunno yet. Chicken for the hubby and some baked beans or stuffed mushrooms for me. Beer and dessert. That sort of thing.
