I'd actually be interested in seeing a Blink version with merfolk CITP effects and the 1U for a 2/1 cantrip guy. That deck seems like it could be aggro control with blinks.
If you're going back far enough then Man'o'War is legal and also seems like a good effect to blink.
Wow. Thanks a lot, everyone. Sorry I missed it, kinda busy with schoolwork up here. Midterm went ok, I think.
Blink deck: SSS and Akroma are nice finishers, but Mulldrifter and Hierarch should work ok. Cavern Caryatid sounds great here, also either Venser, Shaper Savant, or Riftwing Cloudskate. My friend built a deck like this with Seht's Tiger as a trick. I'd try:
Wow, six pages so far and I only have two posts that's just weird. I also second the agreement that Lorascale Coatl is awesome. Although, I think the point to add Lorascale is that your deck draws cards and has the ability to play aggro first. If your playing control first and aggro second I don't think lorascale would be quite as good compared to something like Tarmogoyf since it's big no matter what you do initially.
Good morning Omna
Whoa, doesn't sound like you had much fun
I must say, I regret choosing the, uhm, classes I chose. I think it works a little different here..
In short, you can choose from 4 different so called "profiles";
Culture & Society (Maths A1, French, German, Art/Music (you must choose one of those 2), History)
Economics & Society (Maths A2, Economy, Geography, History)
Nature & Health (Maths B1, Physics 1, Chemics 1, Biology)
They're mostly ordered this way. Each profile also has Dutch, English and a couple of other things like social studies and theology (but we don't have to do exams for those).
C&S has the easiest mathematics, N&T has the hardest variation.
E&S is considered the easiest profile overall (because apparently Economics and Geography are easier than French, German and Art/Music) and N&T is considered the hardest one, N&H being the second hardest.
I chose the Nature & Health profile (+ Latin and Art) because I didn't know what I wanted to do after high school yet. My grades for maths and chemics are rather low though, and physics isn't great either.
Bu I decided that I wanted to study English language and culture only a while ago, during my last year..
Had I known that before, I might've chosen Economics and Society, because in the the end I didn't need all those scientific classes at all..
On the other hand, the Nature profiles are the hardest ones for a reason; they offer a wider range of possible studies after high school. You can't study biology with a Culture and Society profile, but you can study English or even Economics (you'd have a little bit arrears but still) with a Nature & Technology profile..
About the teachers; there weren't really any terrible teachers, but my school just sucked overall.. Really, my school has one of the lowest percentages of people passing their exams in the entire country.. In other words, a lot of students in my school fail their exams and have to do their last high school year again (which really sucks). And yes, it really says something about the school..Hi Psi :).
I had an okay time. Would have been better if I'd been out of the closet and had some closer friends that I enjoyed doing things with (I had a few but I was way more into TV than I was the outside world. My defense mechanism then, and I guess partially now, was to cloister myself off from the world and watch a bunch of TV until my brain rotted)
I just wish I had taken more advantage of what I was offered. The difference between our schools, it seems, is that while yours is more honed in on what a student is interested, ours is very general offering a little variety in the elective courses. Some courses are mandatory. IE Everyone has to take an English class no matter what. Everyone has to have a foreign language credit but you get to choose (ours were French, Spanish, Sign Language, and German. But I hear tell my high school was getting a Japanese teacher. Not sure if that fell through but that would've been my number one choice bar none.)
Everyone has to have a math credit but people are on different scales. I started AP math in 7th grade and worked up through Calculus. Some people ended their high school having completed Algebra II and instead of Pre cal went on to Statistics. I should have taken that class too but I didn't skip a grade like I should have, and I didn't take summer school because I wasn't aware that was an option (and it had a stigma attached that summer school was for people that couldn't pass NOT for people that just wanted to get the hell out of high school!)
I loved some of my teachers though. Some of them were bad. My 9th grade English teacher was terrible as stated earlier. My 10th Grade English teacher's version of helping me get over my stage fright was "I'm not going to stroke your ego."
She later got fired for giving alcohol to minors (students) and apparently getting involved with them...in other ways. She was skeezy. Loved my second theater teacher, though, she was originally a Speech teacher.
My French 1 teacher was amazing. I absorbed everyting she spit out (gross) and French 2 wasn't terrible. But when I got to French 3 it was awful. The teacher was boring (albeit a sweet sweet person) and, since she was teaching everything I'd already learned the previous year, I stalled and lost interest. Then and there my goal of learning Spanish and French and Sign Language by the end of my senior year went out the door.
I loved my Algebra II teacher. She was very informative even though she had to tell me a couple times "Micah, stop answering so many questions in class no one else is learning." Also loved my Calculus/Pre Cal teacher. She was crazy in a way I could appreciate ^_^. I wonder if she's still there. I should go visit
My Sign Language teacher during my senior year was awesome. I love languages anyways but she made me feel comfortable in that class when everyone else there was two years younger. (Senior year is when most seniors take as few classes as possible and don't usually start a language since they're there to get their foreign language credits out of the way. Won best senior in Sign language though! Hope it didn't hurt the feelings of the people that'd been doing it for years. ;))
I also had a mentor of sorts that was never even my teacher. I was in a few clubs outside of school and outside of band. The teacher that sponsored one of them helped me find purpose for the last two years I was there. (sure I only joined because I needed friends but she was so fun :). She taught me how to decorate cakes too which got me a job the next year!)
Voila. My middle school was where I didn't have ANY fun at all.
Here is a casual deck I am going to probably play in my team multiplayer games tommorrow. Should be alot of fun. Although, the deck is versatile for casual it's just relieving to just grind out games via cunning wish. My group is kinda weird though since we all play with 15 card sideboards no matter if it's just casual or testing. But I guess that kinda keeps us sharp if we wanted to go into a standard or legacy tournament sometime.
So here is the deck I will be running tommorrow just for kicks and laughs in team multiplayer:
I want to run both Jace and Chandra in there but I don't have any planeswalker so the urza's rage and netherspirit win combo has to do for now but it works because it's a control deck. Although, if i had four Jaces I would replace accumulated knowledge. One last thing Spite/Malice is tech.
@blue: I have to say that I'm sorry that your childhood was not as good as it should have been simply because of your sexuality/not being able to come out. I struggled with a lot of the same stuff until my senior year when I went public with my bisexuality. Luckily my friends were really supportive of me, and coincidentally (or not), started to come out (some of them) shortly after.
And I know how you feel about feeling completely bored by high school. By my junior year I was so done with all of the classes that they offered that I could not wait to get out and go to college, which I loved my first year of. I do wish I had done a bit better my spring semester, I got a C+ in Art History when I know I could have gotten a B easily, but I chose to party and get constantly wasted instead. Oh, well. Still finished first year with a 3.0

Nether spirit? Does it work well in Multiplayer? Team multiplayer hmmmm. Right now it doesn't have a lot of Multiplayer Implications. But then again I don't know much about multiplayer. At first I thought you were talking about Nether Shadow and I was like, "Uhh.....that'll never work" but Nether Spirit's a different ball and chain. I wish you could play some sort of Squee tricks with Nether Spirits and keep emptying your graveyard of creatures but I can't figure it out (not even sure that works)
ep: I appreciate the sentiment. Things are way better now. I didn't even come out til after my first year of college. (19) Sigh. Then I dropped out of college. I should have stayed in but I didn't understand the concept of "Nah don't worry about it, get loans and grants. Everyone has debt when they get out of college"
Couldn't wrap my head around accumulating that much debt for something and really wasn't focused or ambitious enough to work AND do school work (especially research. It's the bane of my existence) This has changed and I'm ready now.
But now I've got scads of friends. Apparently I did have a few gay acquaintences back in my youth I just didn't know it. Had a friend then he turned on me and made me a pariah. Turns out later that he was gay too. Another girl was so hateful when we were growing up that I still detest the thought of her (even when trying to be pleasant to her she was a beyotch). She's a lesbian too. There were a couple more but I guess the one thing that bothered me the most in high school that didn't matter at all once I was out was the constant need of people to define you. I was gay, sure, but why did that matter back then? It shouldn't have so I didn't say anything about it. It was really hard to deal with because I was really religious and my dad was a bigot and my grandmother too. I didn't go to school to be social though, I was there for my education. I'm a giant geek (and a geeky giant) but now I don't care if people know I'm gay. It's not something they'll pidgeon-hole you for anymore because there's just so many types of gays. Back then it was one size fits all.
But life's not all bad so that's what I'm focusing on. Road trips and three day weekends are coming up so I'm happy
Speaking of Partying and getting totally wasted: I don't do it often but I'm definitely going to tonight. My friends are celebrating their "No MORE FINALS!" and are ushering in the summer with some drunken goodliness. I plan to partake!
Drinking games probably going to include Kings Cup/Waterfall (I always win if there is such a thing), Screw the Dealer and the 7s game.
7s is my favorite because you get silly after a while and mess up. It's where the group sits in a circle and one person starts counting from the number one. Then whenever you get to a number that ends in a 7, is a multiple of a 7 or has repeated digits (ie 11, 22, 33) you say "Ping!". You reverse who's counting at that point (So it'd go A B C D E F PING F E D PING D etc etc. You still count forward though). Whenever someone messes up by either not saying Ping, or saying the wrong number, or if they hesitate too long they have to drink.

Well it's just casual mulitplayer so it's not like any of the decks I play against are highly competitive so yeah Nether spirit would work pretty well especially with cunning wish which I can take control of the board and just win with nether spirit/urza's rage. Multiplayer is just a casual format where people play magic for fun so it's not like you should play with 4 brainstorm, 4 force of will, and 4 tarmogoyfs in every deck like you do in legacy.

OMG good suggestions.
Well then you should be playing Honden of Seeing Wind and Honden of Night's Reach. Wreck some face! I think you're afraid of casual Zubera Gro. Should totally invest in that.

Hahaha, nah I don't need to do that to have some fun. Also, winning isn't really my priority in casual play while just having some fun and playing with friends on a saturday afternoon is. As for Zubera Gro never heard of it since nobody plays it in my magic group.

It's cuz I made it up. It's a deck that revolves around Zubera and Mirror Entity killing all of your creatures to draw a card for each one (since they're zubera when they hit the yard and that's all the zubera care about.) Then get the zubera back and do it again. The interesting thing is that it works with the Lorescale Coatl now very well and you don't have to dip into the fourth color for the red zubera to win you the game!
Just for shiggles though, not a serious deck at all.

Nice sounds like alot of fun perhaps you could pm me the decklist sometime or post it in the house.
It's good to see more people that come to the house enjoy playing casual magic. I have about 2-3 people that I play casual with and all of the time it's a relaxing atmosphere with giggles and smiles.

I'll try to remember it all ^_^.
Honestly I haven't played magic in forever. The casual versions I played included Mental Magic variants and that was pretty much it. When I first started I had a Life Burst False cure deck with Exalted angels and tainted pacts and chainer's edicts. But it couldn't really kill anyone except maybe if the angels ever stayed in play or if the Eternal Dragons came back from the deaaaaad.
Then I played brain freeze Affinity (with Vedalkan Archmages)
Then.... I sorta just stopped playing and kept building decks. Favorite deck has been Wildfire + Greater Gargadon + either Rumbling Slum or Spectral Force. (Force was awesome with Trample and 8/8 stats. Lived through a Wildfire came out the turn before wildfire and it didn't matter if you couldn't untap it right away.)

Sounds like pretty innovative decks you have there Blue. I am a big fan of life gaining decks especially in casual where exalted angel and eternal dragon just rocks. As for wild fires it would be interesting incorporating planeswalkers in there.
Here is another casual deck that I will probably be playing tommorrow as well.
It's a fun deck I am not sure how it would hold up against my friend's wife's elves deck since she likes to run elves alot of the time but it might be able to stand a chance against my friend's mill deck and maybe his rogue deck as well. I've had the deck since about 2006 and recently added Baron Sengir(Thanks to Alacar's trading cards with me). The Icy manpulator and Royal Assassin combo still wins me games even if it's about 15 years old as well unless my friends start to run troll ascetics in everydeck. I also like Traumatic visions since it acts like a fetchland as well as a counterspell which has been reasonably useful in my casual games.
Heyas Coffeehouse! Alacar and I have been playing magic lots lately. I have found out I LOVE elves deck. They are sneaky little buggies. I gained like 40 life before smashing his face in. I however got my butt handed to me with his plainswalkers deck. So why did I buy him another card for the deck? hehe o well, I gues I don't learn. I am in the process of making my own red/black deck...all by myselfs hehe. Well my munchkin tells me its time for dinner so off I go -hugs to all-

Looking at your deck makes me want to build a Royal Court deck flush with kings queens and Jester's Scepter. Probably a white black deck. Different theme than a tribal deck, but it'd be cool to have a king (Darien maybe?) queen and some subjects. Who's a good queen? I figure Sengir Autocrat could be in there too. Probably won't be on again til Monday. See ya guys!

Haha that could be a pretty cool deck. I think the King could be Baron Sengir in my deck while the queen would be Visara the dreadful. BW seems pretty good with all of the removal from black and white like vindicate and swords to plowshares. You also get the random oops I win factor with Jester's Cap as well.
Also, have a good weekend Blue see you later. I'll be around.
Well it looks like I am off to another quick start on having alot of posts in yet at the begining of another Coffeehouse thread.
@Daidream: Also nice on the win against Alacar as well. Keep it up and B/R could be pretty interesting especially since you have access to avatar of discord and blightning also maybe throw in some blistering firecats while your at it.
Hello, everyone. I'm new here. I'm a bit of an troll, but not in the derail thread/insult people sort of way.
Much like a jester. I prefer to make folks laugh... or think.
I haven't read much of this thread aside from the OP, but I love Magic and coffee.
I'll drop by once in awhile to call you all nerds that spend too much time on the internet, while spending just as much time online myself.

Hey, I didn't know this. I'll have to play against it sometime See how nasty your deck can get. I've still gotta sort and organize my collection, much less help you out with yours.
Oh, hey Coffeehouse. Yesterday I pulled an all nighter and got like 1 hour of sleep. It sucked. So Daidream dropped me off from hanging out with her and I've gotten like.. 14 hours of sleep. I think I'm good.
Welcome to MTG Junkie!
* Alacar Leoricar lumbers off to go get some breakfast
So I must say, partying with famous people is exhilirating as hell. When I finally fall asleep and wake up I'll give the story, suffice to say I went around the world in 48 hours.
Morning everyone. I stayed up 'til 2 AM playing Pokemon Diamond, Ha. My friends and I started playing Pokemon again and I can't seem to stop, it really is addicting.
How is everyone else on this fine Saturday morning?

Oh, sorry yes I did! I will try it out sometime :).
And BotU threads are up guys! So go vote vote vote vote!

2 Godless Shrine
1 Scrubland
1 Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth
2 Adarkar Wastes
1 Coastal Tower
2 Tainted Isle
4 Plains
4 Swamp
8 Island
3 Sengir Vampire
1 Baron Sengir
4 Serra Angel
3 Royal Assassin
1 Visara the Dreadful
Spells
1 Traumatic Visions
4 Counterspell
4 Absorb
1 Seal of Cleansing
2 Disenchant
1 Mortify
4 Swords to Plowshares
3 Icy Manipulator
3 Consult the Necrosages

I went from having an awesome custom keyboard to having a crappy keyboard. I hate this.

Oh, hey Coffeehouse. Yesterday I pulled an all nighter and got like 1 hour of sleep. It sucked. So Daidream dropped me off from hanging out with her and I've gotten like.. 14 hours of sleep. I think I'm good.
