There are few problems that [The Izzet] can't solve with explosives.
i am re-submitting my previous suggestion.

On our way out of FNM last week, my friend and I saw a foil Stoneforge Mystic for $3.50. I told him to pick it up (since I can't afford to invest in T2 myself), but he said he didn't think it was very good. Mistake!
ouch.

I know I'm going to get a custom eventually; I wonder if anyone with a custom will ever have as low of a ppd as I'm bound to. Logistically, no one with a custom now can have a ppd as low as mine at this point, since I joined the site right at the beginning.
did something happen that raised the price of many cards?
pro tour San-Diego happened, lsv went 17-1 playing a deck called Boss Naya, it runs stoneforge mystic and behemoth sledge+basilisk collar to make combat a breeze, plus there was a WW deck that ran stoneforge mystic that was in the semis. Before the pro tour, stoneforge was only worth about 2-3$, now, she's worth 5-6$ and expected to rise.
i see the behemoth basilisk combo, but the mystic doesn't seem that needed.
the mystic provides card advantage, it can tutor for any equipment you have, and it can throw down an equipment at instant speed(for example, i have two plains untapped, a path to exile, a brave the elements, and a behemoth sledge in hand, i can pass the turn and leave up mana for path and brave, but if i don't need to use them, i can still throw down my equipment on their end step, thus allowing me to be able to answer my opponents threats, but if i didn't have the mystic, i would be forced to play the equipment on my turn and not be able to immediately answer my opponents threats)
also, she's not a bad creature herself, she can still pick up a sledge and bash skull.(or chump block)
...Ok, it's not THAT bad, but you can see my distaste of T2 since Jund has been the proverbial menace everyone has been trying to take down.
As for Stoneforge Mystic, I wiped out the final playset of them in my store for $16 total. I can't wait for Star City Gougers to jack her up into the stratosphere in the next few days :]
@ Rocker: Trust me, there are other January '05ers out there who haven't even cracked 100 posts.
And don't forget the new thread :).
I find it very likely there will be a long period of time between when I get to 1k and when someone else as slow as me gets to 1k. I'd bet the people you talk about have left the forums entirely.

I was never offered pulses at a reasonable price, so I've gotta stick with non jund decks for the mean time. My friend put it quite simply: Jund sucks because bad players can still win with it, unlike fae.

You're probably right, considering it's been over five years now since the exodus.
My friend put it quite simply: Jund sucks because bad players can still win with it, unlike fae.
That, and the fact that the only real weakness of Jund is its fragile manabase. So just use LD to blow it u--- oh wait. Wizards apparently didn't like it when I Stone Rained and Molten Rained people's lands 4-5 years ago. Goblin Ruinblaster, Spreading Seas, and Tectonic Edge are decent, but they don't have the speed and consistency that LD needs to thrive on to actually do something relevant.
I've got my playset, and I only trade to bring them in, not out. Stoneforge is the stones.
I'll probably end up unloading my playset once Stoneforge peaks in price and get more cards for my EDH decks or more Legacy staples -- cards that I know I will be playing with for a long time to come.
I'm back. Going to read back some, then post some things, and probably go check the Guildpact mafia at some point... For now we'll just say that my leg is mostly healed and I'm not coughing anymore.

Came close to breaking it during a training-session last Tuesday night. I wasn't able to walk all that easily the next few days. It's mostly better now, though. I'm not sure I am willing to take too many leglocks this coming Thursday, but I am certainly going back for more.
On top of the injured leg, I just happened to catch a cold the following day. It's like my body figured I'd get illness and injury out of the way all at once, in a tidy little package of one week, because since I had my colon removed two years ago, I can't remember the last time I've had any sort of sickness (not even the sniffles or a cough).
I told Clem, and I presume he at least told MTGD...

Yeech. Reading something like this makes me feel so fortunate on how I very rarely get sick or how I've never broken a bone in my body (I've also never had any cavities, but I'm getting off topic :P). AND you've had your colon removed? That's rough man.

I can't think of anyone who ever said being a fighter was supposed to be easy. Little injuries and sore muscles are just a regularly occurring part of life. You deal with them, and eventually they go away. Sometimes bigger things come around, and you've just got to deal with them, too. Half of my training partners have been told that they'd "never be able to train/fight again", and yet, here they are. Hell, one of them (my main coach/mentor/whathaveyou) was told, after a motorcycle-accident, that he'd never walk again for problems with his degenerative spine. Proved that doc wrong.

on another note, i'm starting fencing next friday, so this friday will be my last FNM for a while
I'm assuming you mean European-style fencing with rapiers (well, actually, they're hardly even rapiers in that case...)? You never really hear people refer to any other style of swordsmanship as "fencing" unless they're deeper into kendo or some ☺☺☺☺. Let me know how it goes for you, and if you ever need any sort of advice or an outsider's opinion, hit me up.

I got sidetracked from posting this earlier via being sick, so here's some thread titles to vote on:
[The Izzet] Could Have Gotten Away With it, if it Wasn't for Those Meddling Kids!
[The Izzet] Started The Chain Reaction
[The Izzet] Contort Your Spells
[The Izzet]: Inventors of the Explosive
Our new banner will be a few weeks, so the one we have now will have to suffice for at least one more thread.

Ravus, I feel like you've already told me this, but I am forgetful: what sort of fighting do you do?
I actually don't know whether you've asked...?
I often allude that it's MMA, as it fits the criteria if taken literally. We call it "reality combatives"--we have a joke that it's "truly mixed martial arts"--combining the most efficient facets of any given arts to create a single, all-encompassing "art" or "style". Again, using the term "fighter" to describe myself might again be a little misleading, as I don't fight in the ring or "professionally" (I did try it, however... too many restrictions and formalities :embarrass:), but I don't much like the term "martial artist" as it gives the connotation that I'm some...
Well, think of it this way: I do officially have a black belt in taekwondo, and although your average humdrum might find that impressive, your average delinquent is going to scoff and say something to the effect of, "oh, but that's not going to help you in a street fight"... which immediately allows me to see that they're uneducated fools who may (or may not even) have "tough guy" reputations simply because they've fought other uneducated fools. I've encountered dozens of "bully-types" who tell me that martial arts won't help me against them, even though that's what the arts of combat are for. Any time they've actually "taken me outside" I've walked away with a big stupid grin on my face.
Hrmm. That rant probably made me out to sound a bully... Ah well, moral of the story is that I take fighting seriously, understanding that "there is no such thing as a fair fight". I don't go out of my way to fight, and even try to avoid them wherever possible, but the simple fact that I can fight and win is so much more gratifying than going out and being the tough guy proving that I'm a bad-ass... Urgh! There I go again. Ranting on nothing.
EditWithinASpoiler: Hmph. I meant to actually cover certain differences with MMA and what I do with this rant... maybe even cover a paragraph about the degeneration of the UFC because the innovation-department has become stagnant and nobody's trying anything that isn't one of the four primary arts of MMA (wrestling, boxing, muay Thai, jiujitsu), which is also (and ironically) the reason no one has beaten Lyoto Machida (adapting his family's karate to the sport).
Short answer: "Reality Combatives."

Maybe by then I'll finally get to host my Normal (Mafia game), since I just signed up for the queue.
I expect to see a lot of Naya lists for the next month or so. Another good reason to play WW with MD Kor Firewalker!
Don't like Jund? Run Lodestone Golem!
