Isn't it this weekend? I was going to, as it's just a few hours away, but my playgroup determined that some Legacy wasn't worth the trip to Chicago. My argument was, "You're looking at this wrongly, a trip to Chicago is worth some Legacy"
Anyway, I'm assuming Weaver won't, what with his moving-conundrums, but can't be sure...
It's not like I was suspended because I'm a douchewaffle...
Considering that Im not even in the country, and will be until friday, no.
but yes, a trip to chicago is worth some Legacy.
In about a week I will be back in CT, and after My family ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ AND Jess's, I dunno where ill go next
I really want to. If it wasn't this weekend, I'd be able to rally some sort of transport (I'm not spending the gas moneys to go alone). This is the third or fourth Upper Midwest event that the Izzet (and friends) tried to get together, only for it all to fall apart in the end.
What we need is another Grand Prix-Madison.
Edit: OH! I know for a fact that I'm going to StarCityGames' $5K in Minneapolis this June(?), if anyone is capable of getting there...
Though I would like to meet you Ravus(and destroy :p) I have to take care of things before the ultimate battle goes down.
I'm from Bourbonnais, IL (as it says in my Location under my name :P), which is about 60 miles south of Chicago. Its where the Chicago Bears summer training camp is held (actually, the training camp is about a block away from my house, I can watch it from my deck). What about you, Ravus?
Also, yeah I believe it was a GP, I played B/G Control, and my teammates played Owling Mine and Gruul. We were called Team Forsaken 2, because at the time we had 9 players there, the original 3 members of the Team got to use the team name, and the other 6 had to have numbers behind it. There were teams there with really weird names like "I <3 Kird Ape" and one team just had a phone number, because the team captain had gotten a girl's phone number there but didn't have any paper to write it on so he used it as his team name lol
Considering that Im not even in the country, and will be until friday, no.
Really? Huh. Finally make your way to get some krav maga, straight from the source? (that would actually be awesome)

I make no Promises.
No promises are required. I think it's supposed to be Standard, so I'll likely have to borrow my (entire ) deck from some friends, but I'll be there, getting all the SCG goodies. If you stop by for a duel, I'd be more than happy to teach you some things from my special taijutsu... muto?

I'm not going to Chicago, for all the usual reasons: it's too far, I've never played Legacy, and I have work. Although, I could probably convince my playgroup to go to Minneapolis or Seattle if I tried (Read: Flying). I am definitely going to Boston however. I might go to the 5k in Philly later as well, if only to see my buddy come in second again.

And I could teach you a thing or two. In fact, after we both get thru decimating each other, Im sure we both have something to offer to grow as warriors...

Did he keep track of life totals with D20s?

I wouldn't have us "meet swords" (literally or figuratively) if that weren't to be a part of it.
If only I had personal internets, and could use AIM again; we could converse on end about philosophies in pertanence to the martial arts. Have you read Yagyu Munenori's Life-Giving Sword, or Takuan Soho's Unfettered Mind? I'm sure you've read Musashi's Book of Five Rings (who hasn't, nowadays ).

It's actually in the Comp. Rules that a constructed deck consists of "deck, sideboard, tokens and counters, and a means of clearly keeping track of life totals". I never play Magic without a pen and something to write upon.

No I talked to the guy about it when I saw that we had to play them in the first round...it said "Team Forsaken 2 vs. 596-9295 (or something like that)" and I asked him what that was all about and he told me that he was staying at that hotel the night before, and he had met this girl and they were hanging out and having fun, and then he saw her again about 20 minutes before decklists were due, and she was leaving. So he ran after her and asked her for her number. She was in a hurry to catch up with her parents and he was registering, so he didn't have his pen and paper for the game, so she just wrote it in the team-name slot. It was really funny. Especially since I beat the crap out of him that round!
There is ALWAYS extra paper. You just need to ask.
But seriously, (Event with K-val > 16) - Pen and Paper = FAIL.
Random Question: For those of us "Spikes," I'm curious as to your total number of PTQs played in. I probably have you all beat (Maybe even all of you combined...)

Also has anyone else top 8'd? I've got 3.
EDIT: Weaver, there is a big issue with your "spike mindset" in your sig. Would you like me to tell you or do you want to learn the hard way like I did?

I started playing at the age of 6, it took me (counts hands) too damn long until I got really good. I am a Spike/Johnny, and Though I play to win, I have fun everytime. Losing only makes me better.
Oh and my Teams Name is Team Deuce. Because Team Deuce is the ♥♥♥♥!
I will play what wins, not what is convenient. Personal preference is nothing, The win is all that matters.
While this sounds nice on paper, let's be honest; not every deck is for everyone. I played teachings in TS block to a miserable record, and had much better records with "weaker" decks including my own rogue concoction. I knew the same would happen if I tried to play faeries in, well, any format, so I've avoided it. That being said, I might need to find a new extended deck because gifts-loam is quite slow. I just haven't found a good, consistent aggro or aggro-control deck.

I didn't play any today because James left his bag at school last night and one of his friends (who is also a professor) told him to come by at like 3pm to come pick up his bag. So at 3 we went to grab his bag but James and I are both sick so we left right after.

If what you play allows you to win more than others, then what you play wins.
I think to clarify what "convenience" means, I believe the word is being used as a synonym to "whim." You play what you "feel like." This is an irrationality abhorred by Spikes. Spikes aren't like Johnnies or Timmies, they don't play what's fun. They play what wins.
Feeling good with what you play is only a consequential bonus to the true prize: winning. As a Spike, you ought not to care about the means but rather ends.
You have not violated any Spike codices by my standard if you happen to play "weaker" decks if those so-called "weak" decks happen to give you better tie-breaks.

You know, my topics of rants don't just pertain themselves to MTG. I can also philosophically (attempt) to say something intellectually significant about love, the meaning of life, and the metaphorical, literary, and philosophical absurdity of childhood innocence. But if I'm gonna talk about that, I'm most likely gonna B.S. it. Not all Western Philosophers are Zen Buddhists:

Me: WARNING. RANT APPROACHING.
But honestly, no I can't give you a good answer about life--I haven't lived long enough to answer all its questions.:D I can, however, give some honest, and, hopefully humbling and rational, elaborated opinions about people. If you want to hear that let me know. I don't rant about that so much since the people who do start sounding like neo-nazis who think they know the world, who's evil and who's not. Cocky S.O.B.s
In my experience, decks that I find unfun to play are unfun BECAUSE even though they should be "good" decks, I find myself losing with them. This is generally because they don't suit my play style, and as a result no matter how good the deck is, I will play it wrong and lose.
Spike Rule #1: Winning is fun. At least for you.

My responses to these types of questions are usually along the absurdist lines. I mean, if you're going to ask me a question that you don't understand, I'll give you an answer that you don't understand. "What's the meaning to my life?" "To discover that you are not a tree." *blank stare*
On the other hand (pun not intended), "What's the sound of one hand clapping?" "Clap with only one hand and find out." "..."
Well, I was going to type something else, but I got distractedand forgot what it was. Oh well.

If your intentions are to win and nothing else, that your ultimate enjoyment can only come from winning and all other motives are just fillers, then you're a Spike.
Spikes can suck at playing MTG, but as long as they have a strong desire to win (everyone has a desire to win to some degree), then you're a Spike. Thus, if willing is the thing you value the most in a game of MTG, then you're a Spike. Everything else is just a means to that end.

The only time and reason not winning makes me mad is when I feel I should've won, and I lost because the deck I made didn't work the way it was supposed to, usually because I forgot to put a key card in it. Or had no room for removal (oops). Which is more Johnny. OCD Johhny. I expect my weird and wonderful creations to destroy things, damnit. Winning isn't fun just because I won - it's fun because it proves that the thing I created actually works.

Then I've got no qualms with that. I'm not saying you're a Spike. Just pointing the definition out.
As for creating things that are supposed to win--yeah that boils me up as well. Strive to win in style cause if you don't go big, you ought to go home.

Random person: Ooh! You major in Philosophy? Tell me: what's the meaning to my life? What's the sound of one hand clapping?
Me: WARNING. RANT APPROACHING.
But honestly, no I can't give you a good answer about life--I haven't lived long enough to answer all its questions.:D I can, however, give some honest, and, hopefully humbling and rational, elaborated opinions about people. If you want to hear that let me know. I don't rant about that so much since the people who do start sounding like neo-nazis who think they know the world, who's evil and who's not. Cocky S.O.B.s
Spike Rule #1: Winning is fun. At least for you.

I play better with decks I like, mostly because then I don't get bored and forget to do stuff because I get distracted. Must be the non-Spike in me.
Oh well.
Doesn't mean you guys aren't Spikes.

Hey, is there a motto for Johnnies out there? I've seen the spike ones going around, but what about Johnnies and Timmies and even Vorthoses? What about Melvin, even Dave?
Hmm, come to think of it, do you think the Izzet should have one? What about the triple alliance?
I've played in 10, haven't top 8'ed yet but I've gotten 9th and 10th before and missed the top 8 due to tiebreakers >.>.
Gosh, i'm tired....I just got done doing a con/con/con draft with friends, I got 2nd......go go manascrew :toot:.

I like this idea of yours. But the only thing I can think about right now is Incan religion.
However, as soon as I go back to studying what I'm supposed to study, all I'm going to be able to think about is
And this:
Philosophical concepts are like chemicals. If you mix them together, something cool might happen, but usually you just end up with a huge percent error.
Anyhoo...
However, as soon as I go back to studying what I'm supposed to study, all I'm going to be able to think about are the mottos for Jahnny and Timmy and Melvin and Vorthos and Dave. Gah. You've corrupted my brain.
