@Vax - So your name is Stuko? That sounds... I don't know... Swedish?
@Vik - Hmmm... not quite the kind of sandwich that will lure Noid back to us (:D), but I don't blame you. I think by the time you joined us, he had already disappeared, so you can't possibly know what goes on in his perverted mind.
On the White command - It's good, at least in block. In standard it may see some play, but seeing how little help white control is getting from Lorwyn, I really doubt it. It's bound to see play in block as the sole white card in a mostly blue control deck, or something like that (although Oblivion Ring probably has a place in builds like that as well).
On another news from last week that I forgot to mention, I bought a t-shirt that I'll be using whenever we set up a GA meeting. Here's a pic from Starla's sound test last saturday where Im wearing it. Classic.
@Vax - So your name is Stuko? That sounds... I don't know... Swedish?

Or east-european? It does ahave a rather slavic air to it than germanic, but than again I might be misled by the resemblance to Stukov
Yeah, that's all my dad's fault. He's something like Polish/Swedish/German/whatever the **** else.:p My mother, on the other hand, is pure Greek. 100% of it. And I proudly embrace my Greek half, much to my dad's chagrin. Though I really don't know what part of my dad's ancestry I could embrace, there's just too many!

Shady, you are really excellent in adding a whole new level of dirtiness to an already dirty talk... :D.
Okay, back to the work, I want to have the writing of the article finished before the prerelease. Now, I am really waiting for the one last thing. The visual spoiler. And I can assure you, though I love the fiery ladies and pics in my banner, it's gonna change soon. The flamekin are too cool to ignore them ;-)
Have a great time!

At least I get occasional bits of gossip on who gets on with each other - shame I'm never going to get to use this as blackmail material
Oooh, I like me some gossip! Gossiping is almost like a state of mind. But seeing how there usually are few people around there at Swindon, I suppose things are much like Dawson's Creek, where everyone makes out with everyone?
Quote from Shady »
You and Noid started sandwiches?
Thankfully it wasn't me in the middle.
Yesterday we had the monly Beatles Social Club, where lots of people gatherin the best pizza place in town to play and listen to others play Beatles songs. Yesterday I was part of the main band, which means I played and sung around 25 songs during the evening. I even dedicated "Something" outloud, in the mic, to a certain girl that was present. She was all red and smiling during it, which was priceless (and me singing the song all along looking in her eyes, from some four meters away, definitely helped things out :p). Guess I have a small Seth Cohen in me that I didn't know of.
Man, I guess it's official, I'm in love like a high school kid. I only hope things work out how I want them to, which I'm not sure of at this point.
Well, it's back to work now then. Catch up with y'all later.
I hope everyone is having a great week. I seriously thought it was Friday this morning, but it ain't... lol!
Everytime I read Swindon, I think of David Brent & The Office... such a timeless classic. Actually, the American version (From season two onwards that is) is really quite funny too... There's no Ricky Gervais, so it's not as funny, but it is good.
I think Crovax refers to the fact that while (the invisible) Harry was on his way to Slughorn, he "accidentally" (aka influenced by felicis) pushed Ginny on the Gryffindor entrance, which caused Ginny to think that it was Dean who pushed her and they argued and they broke up.
However, allow me to disagree with you Crovax. Felix felicis had nothing at all to do with HP and Ginny getting together, because:
-It was quite obvious that Ginny was on her way to ditch Dean anyway and the "push" was just her perfect excuse in doing so.
-It is also revealed that Ginny's childhood "crush" of HP never stopped, but she just followed Hermione's advice and tried to date other people as well.
-If HP hadn't reacted with a kiss in her embrace after the match nothing would have happened. So it is their decisions that shaped things, not a potion.
I don't know, man. Either I'm reading (hehe, pun:p) too much into it, or it seemed to me that the Felicis made it so that Ginny and Dean would show up at precisely that time. Maybe I'm paranoid, but when there's some sort of "instant luck" item or something else that allows things to go your way, I tend to think that that item affected everything that goes on around the drinker/target/whatever.
Other news: Finished Deathly Hallows. First thing: it really made me realize how much I take book series for granted. The last series that I totally completed was The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, but those books really didn't have as much detail and plot as the Harry Potter books. I've never read an entire series that caused me to get so attached to the characters. I did have some things against the book though. I did think that it got going a little too slowly. I felt a little like Ron must have felt, wondering just when they would start getting stuff done. And why the hell did the excitement have to start just when Ron had left the group for a bit?
Oh, and just one other nitpick: Lupin and Tonks. Not that they got married or anything, but when Lupin found out that Tonks was pregnant, he was all, "Oh crap! I can't have this happen! Why!?" Well, you're a wizard. We muggles have some things to make sure that we don't have kids when we're not ready or anything: it's called condoms, or the pill. Now, if us muggles can figure out this stuff, you'd think that wizards would have something more effective than anything we could come up with.
Well, I've been thinking about what to pick up next. I know that I'll have to get the Lorwyn novel, but I also want to find something more, well, fulfilling:o to read. I've narrowed it down to either Herodotus' Histories or Thus Spoke Zarathustra by Nietzche. I know, really big jump from HP. Any thoughts?

Heh, kind of that. Slowly but surely cutting more and more from the load of work gathered after the USA visit. To relax, I went for a Magic evening yestereve, drafting Tenth. I made an aggro BR deck, but lost each match 2-1, all the time thanks to ill luck. Once - my opponent was beaten to one life with a single Merfolk Looter. Then he drew a Terror and killed my Viashino Runner. He activated the looter, drew and played Aven Windreader. He was holding a single card, and has BU mana open. I cast Blaze to his head, and learned that the card was Flashfreeze. Another decisive game - I needed to topdeck a Blaze to kill my opponent before he swarms me. I drew a Mountain. The next card was...yeah, Blaze. Another decisive game - I needed to draw any single land to finish my tapped out opponent (at 3) with a Lava Axe, again before being killed next turn. Or to draw one of two Cryoclasms, or Fists of the Anvil to boost Vampire Bats. None of them, of course. Well, if the luck pool theory is valid, I have my luck pool full to the edge. Good before prerelease :).

WOTC: lol! Full spoiler in Scrye! DOH!
I'd really want to know if that was a planned thing or an unbelievable mistake from Scrye
Sorry for not posting more pictures of myself, but again, being alone there, it is hard to take a good pic of yourself with anything more visible behind.
I saw that nobody is interested anymore in creating the official preview threads, so I made today's, mainly because of the amazing token arts. Guys, that was an excellent decision to include the paper token cards in Tenth, and keep them for the future.
Off to work, have a great time!

Well, no contraception is 100% effective, so there's the out clause. Plus, JK would probably have gotten into a lot of trouble if she'd started promoting contraception in a book which was initially meant for kids.
Woah, I never thought that any of you would have thought that I was serious when I said that stuff. It was just a little tongue-in-cheek. I know, I should have put a in there somewhere, but it seemed like too long a comment for that.
Quote from Tanthalas »
Hmm. Maybe, but it was building up throughout the story that Ginny was getting annoyed with Dean anyway, so that just happened to be part of it. I agree with urza - they would likely have split up anyway, and that was just one of the catalysts which sped things up a little bit more. (I think Ginny's comment to Dean when Harry accidentally pushes her is something like "You're always doing that", so it sounds like an ongoing problem).
Well, I agree that they would have split up eventually anyway, but I still didn't like seeing Harry go from "totally messed up relationship" with Cho Chang straight to "OMG soul mates" with Ginny. I'm just saying that I would have liked it a little more if he was still bungling around with his girlfriends. I mean, obviously not as bad as his relationship was with Chang, but still, there should have been something that he could have done to annoy Ginny and create a little bit of friction. It didn't even have to be anything that would have taken away from the feelings that both of them felt when they knew that they would have to split up while Harry looked for the Horcruxes. In fact, I think that it would have added to it. I mean, I doubt that anybody on this earth could have gone from just learning about relationships, to having one that most people would have killed for, that fast.
Whew, end of rant. A good-natured one, for once.:p
So, any thoughts on Herodotus vs. Nietzche?

Quote from Vax »
So, any thoughts on Herodotus vs. Nietzche?
I never read any of them in depth, but I always thought Nietzche was kinda funny with all the pessimism and stuff. Not sure if I'd be able to take an entire book's worth of him, though.
Quote from Craig »
It sounds like she's fallen as well, so hopefully it'll all work out for the best.
See, that's what I'm doubtful of. She clearly likes me, but I'm not sure how far she's willing to go. A bit before I went home from the Beatles thingie, she told me kinda casually that she thinks it's too soon for her to go into a serious relationship again. And the way I am right now, I think it's very unlikely that I'd want anything less than that.
@Honza - Nice pics as always, bro. The Alps one is breathtaking.
That's probably true, but I would guess it was designed to be more of a happy ending than anything else. Given how much pain and misery Harry was put through during the course of things, it made sense for him to have something good happen at the end.
Agreed here. Harry always deserved something good to happen to him. I'm not disputing that. I'm just saying that there might have been a little more, well, normalcy in the Harry/Ginny relationship. Have some sort of typical teenage quarrel or something.
Quote from Tanthalas »
Plus, Ron and Hermione was clearly the best-developed relationship out of everyone. It was brilliantly-done to stretch out the whole "Will they/won't they?" theme until the seventh book without it ever becoming heavy-handed.
Now this relationship was done brilliantly. I guess this is what I'm trying to say: Where Ron/Hermione was a "will they/won't they" thing, Harry/Ginny could have been a "They will, but..." thing. Well, the "but" there is Harry fighting Voldemort. I think I just wanted Ginny to be a little, well, less than perfect.
Quote from Tanthalas »
Also, you can look at it from the point of view of what's happening to them. The reason that they break up for a while is because Harry's disappearing to fight the most evil and one of the most powerful wizards in history. The idea of having something to cling onto and to fight for while that's going on would be a pretty powerful motivating factor. And from Ginny's point of view, as well - the person who could be the love of her life is disappearing, in all likelihood never to come back. That's a good way to intensify how you feel.
And here continues my views. If the two of them loved each other so much, why couldn't Ginny have at least tried to push herself into Harry's search party? You know, sort of a "I love you so much I want to help you out as much as I can." But no, Ginny had to act like an obedient dog and stay back and do what Harry and the others told her. And I know, she tried when the group came out into the Room of Requirement, but I felt that that effort was a little half-hearted.
Quote from Tanthalas »
Plus, there's no point shattering the happiness of millions of children :).
You mean, don't shatter them any more than bringing the series to an end would shatter their happiness? If you're going to shatter the dreams of children like that, why not go all the way?:p
Quote from Tanthalas »
I'd go with Herodotus. I'm not a big fan of Nietzsche. He's just too depressing and fatalist for my liking.
Quote from Rick »

Well, the big reason I wanted to go with Nietzche was the whole "God is dead" thing. Plus, after reading an entire series that had a happy ending, I think I need a little depression to get me back in balance or something.:p

Oh My God. I don't know why but I almost jumped when you said that. 0_0
I'm waiting right now for Jess to come back with Civ4: Beyond the Sword (birthday gift, but when I offered to split the cost with her, I found out.) I'm not sure if I should have gotten her addicted.
Well, other than Sympatico being the most irritating internet service provider I've ever used, there something that I've been trying to find the words to explain it. I can't really think of a way to say it without writing many many paragraphs on what is still a rather painful subject. Well, and I didn't add to the girl drama that was going.
I'm waiting right now for Jess to come back with Civ4: Beyond the Sword (birthday gift, but when I offered to split the cost with her, I found out.)
Oooh, I can't wait to put my hands on a copy. I can't believe there are people so lame as to not like Civ. (*coughHerdercough*) I'll try and get myself one for Christmas.
Got another Cavern Beatles (that is, unsurprisingly, my Beatles cover band) concert tonight. Should be loads of fun. Starla is right now on a concert hiatus until we release our album in late October, so it's nice to still have fun playing around until then. I'll try and put a video from our performance last tuesday on YouTube this weekend.
So, everyone excited about the prerelease? I'll be playing on Sunday, with exactly zero experience playing in Limited with the set. So if I end up winning (or at least top 8'ing), it will be quite a feat, seeing how everyone around here seems to be all over MWS playtesting.
Pretty a surprise, when I came to work this morning and found the visual spoiler already on
So, what's your fav arts, guys?
As I have said, I dislike Omar Rayyan's stuff (Hostility, Tar Pitcher, Tarfire), but Tar Pitcher and Tarfire get 1000 Vorthos points for me for the art, function and flavor two-part story. Similar goes to Hoarder's Greed and Exiled Boggart. Larry MacDougall (Favor of the Mighty, Sygg, Militia's Pride etc.) feels like DiTerlizzi reloaded (I never liked DiTerlizzi for his kids' books style), but Favor of the Mighty I like. The lands are all kickass, the hideaway really 'hiding' something in the art, and the Vivid lands sporting the rainbow glow. Also, it is good to know that Velis Vel is a place, a sacred changeling cave.
Same goes to Shapesharer.
Some of the cards were spoiled with small mistakes - Eyes of the Wisent triggers only for blue spells, and the guy who informed about it got a pretty fiery response from the people who already bought it :-/. Brigid fires only to one player's creatures (what makes her far better), Cairn Wanderer gets abilities from any graveyard, Thorntooth Witch gives +3/-3, turning each Treefolk not into sorcery Giant Growth, but into almost-Last Gasp. Also better that way, IMHO. And so on.
Generally, I am absolutely thrilled by the art. What I dislike is that the art for Paperfin Rascal was quite wasted on that card, and Sygg could have got far better pic. Faerie Harbinger looks just...wicked :D. And Wizened Cenn looks like bleached Yoda with braids.
If I should say my top pieces, it would be 1) Incandescent Soulstoke (yeah, I know, I am boring with it :)) , 2) walkers and Thoughtseize = Briclot's work 3) hideaway lands 4) Faerie and Kithkin Harbingers, 5) Ashling 6) Paperfin Rascal 7) Vigor and Dread (Purity seems too crowded, Hostility is ugly and Guile is weird) 8) Merrow Reejerey 9) Stinkdrinker Daredevil (fun factor) and 10) the rest of lands.
I am going to PR also on Sunday, and as soon as the sortable spoiler is out, I am starting to translate it to get my boxes as soon as possible. I have not any high ambitions, just wanna have fun. If I win something, I'll not be complaining. What would you like to get in your pools?
Have a great weekend, guys, and good luck for the PRs!
Vax here, posting from the lunch round of my pre-release! So far I'm 2-0. Pack round, my rare: Thoughtsieze. Go me.
Packs I opened included triple Neck Snap, Lignify, Rootgrapple, Doran...sick pool. Guy who got those cards is only 1-1 though, don't know why...
Passed a sick Merfolk engine. Double Merrow Commerce, Milling Merfolk, Sygg...Sygg himself won a whole bunch of games, and is probably the biggest reason I'm 2-0 right now.
Didn't see or open any Planeswalkers, though. Or any of the commands.
That's really all I've got to say right now. Off to finish lunch and win my pod!

Haven't i copyrighted "certain girl" yet? * Shadowlord runs to mr. copyrighter-guy
Heh, no problem, you can have it. I can always call her by her name.
I was pretty excited about the prerelease tomorrow, but now I'm so-so. That's because of the uncertainty on where a certain g... I mean, Rebeca and I are headed. After what she told me on tuesday, things got a bit awkward for me. I'm really not sure what she wants at this point. Earlier today I went with a friend to drop her at her home at 8 AM, after a whole night up with friends where nothing happened between us. Good way to ruin my Saturday already.
Damn girls, ruining what used to be my most eagerly awaited Magic time of the year.
@Rick: That sucks man. You guys aren't even kissing anymore?
@Vax: Gogo Vax! hehe
That's a pretty good pool, and Thoughtseize pays for the event itself, heh. Way to go man!
I'll be off to my gparents in a few hours, then after dinner and whatnot I'll get my night's worth of sleep before the prerelease. Given that I have never not finished in the packs and finished 2nd in the last one (plus I've played 5-6 sealed sessions with Lorwyn on MWS), AND things between me and Camila are starting to look brighter I have to say I'm fairly confident I'll have a good day tomorrow. I always walk away with a booster box even if I have to buy the packs (which are cheaper at the event) so at the very least, well, that ^^
Dammit, I hate you all.:-/:p Ended up going 3-2 for the day. Started out 3-0, then round 4 got pummeled by stuff, I don't remember what. Round 5, one word: Dread. Well, Dread himself never hit play, (OK, he hit play once, but I immediately hit it with an Eyeblight's Ending), but it was the clash that he enabled that killed me. Ended up changing the deck to GWb:
Finished in 17th place! 17TH! With packs going to the top 16!:mad::mad:
One thing I'm curious about: Did anybody here (meaning at my prerelease, but it could also apply to you all in the clan) just space out the fact that Rootgrapple can destroy a Planeswalker?
I still don't know if I'm going to go back tomorrow. I've got a midterm in my Environmental Science class (but it's an online course, so I could just do it between rounds:p)...hmmmm, I should see if I could sell that Thoughtseize to some loaded kid to pay for the entry fee tomorrow.:p It's only $30.:p
@R@f: Nice to hear that you and Camila are going better!
Well, I'm going home and taking out my anger at that 17th place finish on some zombies.
EDIT: I think I realized why I finished out of the packs: the damn judges! Round 2 I obliterated my opponent 2-0, but the judge misreported it as a 2-0 LOSS for me. When I check my pairings for round 3, I find that they have me playing someone who has gone 0-2. I inform the judges about this, but they have me play the guy they paired me against originally and making the fix apply to the next round, instead of fixing the pairings. That tiebreaker cost me a top 16 finish! I swear, the next time that happens, I'm not going to give up until it gets fixed RIGHT THEN AND THERE.
@Vax - That sucks. During Mirrodin block, I ended in 9th for two out of three prereleases. Talk about frustrating. And the judge error thing, man, I'd be very pissed if it happened to me.
Quote from Rafa »
@Rick: That sucks man. You guys aren't even kissing anymore?
Well, it's not that we aren't kissing, we just didn't kiss this time (or so I hope). There were a lot of people there, all laughing, talking and having fun, and thus I didn't even have a chance to approach her in such a way. We still exchanged some looks and hugs, but in the end nothing happened. I still want her, but it was very frustrating getting home at 8 AM without the sense of "mission accomplished", heh.
Good thing about you and Camilla though. I'm still hoping you and Helô will come to friendly terms eventually, even if it takes more time than you both foresaw. You guys sounded great together.
Just got home from a late-afternoon concert. It was cool, I got to meet lots of people I hadn't seen in a while. Rebeca didn't go, because her mom won a weekend for two at a beach hotel just out of town and invited her. I really wanted to see her, but I think a weekend apart will probably do good.
Now I'm off for the real night out: a DJ party where they only play Brazilian rock music. I obviously don't feel like coming on to any girls there, but I'm starting to think it would be the wise thing to do. I need to take my mind off rebeca for now.
Hope the weekend is cool for all of you. And of course, good luck at the prerelease.
Back from the prerelease, and I must say that although the deck was far from what I would have wanted, the result was pleasing.
I played as usual here in Brno. There were some sixty-seventy people. I opened a pool with Garruk, Dread, Ashling, Oona's Prowler, green command, and Spinerock Knoll. Also, 2x Shriekmaw, 2 Giant Harbinger, 2 Blind-Spot Giants, Hillcomber Giant, Changeling Hero, Cloudgoat Ranger...
After the swap, I got:
Mistbind Clique, Rings of Brighthearth, Scion of Oona, Boggart Mob, Favor of the Mighty, Incandescent Soulstoke (Yeah, I wished for him...but FOIL, dammit!) . Among uncommons, some merrow (Summon the School, Aquitects, Deeptread Merrow...), Changeling Titan, and a bunch of Kithkin - Knight of Meadowgrain, two Springjack Knights, Goldmeadow Stalwart, Kinsbaile Skirmisher, Kithkin Daggerdare, Kithkin and Elemental Harbinger.
In the end, I went GRW, with Kithkin chain as seen above, some tricks (Blades of Velis Vel), some removal (Lash Out), some burn (Giant's Ire), and changelings (Woodland and Titan). Until the last moment, i was deciding between going GWR or UBR (with Faeries and Boggarts). But no tribe has so much playable cards as the Kithkin, and the green changelings helped a lot. I did not play a single rare from my pool.
The opening game of the first match ended 34-0 in my favor, thanks to Knight of Meadowgrain and lucky clashes from Springjack Knight. The following I lose, and in the extra rounds I accepted the offered draw (I had worse table, but he would not kill me in time).
The second I horribly lose to black fear boggarts and flying faeries (Marsh Flitter, Oona's Prowler etc.)
The third I won after a long fight (2-1), thanks to my kithkin army and Blind-Spot Giant, boosted by Springjack's double strike and Blades of Velis Vel.
The fourth I played against brother of my previous opponent and feared a vendetta :). Nevertheless, this was even easier, with Springjack boosting my mountainwalking Hillcomber Giant.
At this time, I was 2-1-1 and thinking about possible top eight, when winning the rest and being lucky. Then I faced my opponent, a guy who I lose to at Dissension prerelease after being quite successful before.
What to say, the history repeated itself. I opened not quite bad, with couple of giants and a Springjack Knight. He played a Seedguide Ash, and I attacke with skirmisher-boosted Hillcomber. he blocked, found three lands and next round played Oakgnarl Warrior. Okay, so long. The second game was different - we both laying lands till fifth round, then I played Changeling Titan, championing an elf token. Next turn he killed it with Weed Strangle and even got the life from winning clash. After some defending, I was faced with three fear critters including Wort, and when I tried to kill something with Lash Out, he revealed the Oakgnarl again. Got in a turn later, fried by sideboarded Bonfire. Then, I lose to the feared critters.
Last game was again under the flag of the little kith and giants, in the second game killing the opponent with an alpha strike with six critters against his four (4/4 Plover Knights, Oakgnarl, Cenn's Heir and Leaf Gilder, I think), going through for the precious three point of damage to kill him.
I went 3-1-2, finishing 21st, winning no packs. Still, not a bad prerelease, and my best record ever.
Some observations:
- Saw at least four Garruks, two Ajanis, one Jace, one Liliana, but no Chandra.
- changelings RULE!!!! Things like Blind-Spot Giant are almost drawbackless, when you got Woodland Changeling, Blades of Velis Vel searchable with each Harbinger...also, Elvish Handservant is a hot card, when it triggers on each changeling spell.
- MVCs of the deck: Knight of Meadowgrain, Springjack Knight (I was extremely lucky when clashing with him), Blades of Velis Vel, and, believe it or not, Giant's Ire. I killed the opponent four times with it, after attacking him to the burn range.
- the deck just needed something small to be even better - e.g. Rebellion of the Flamekin. Clashing each turn with Springjack Knight
, I'd be happy to spew forth 3/1 tokens. Or Militia's Pride. Heck, even a bit more removal (some Neck Snap (saw a man with THREE of them)).
Okay, so much for now, I am going to clean up the room and take a shower before Lenka arrives. Have a great time, all!
Hi guys! Here's my report for yesterday's event. I had a good time and got most of the cards I wanted - more of that in a minute.
To begin with I opened an insane UW deck that I had to pass. Austere Command and Purity were my in-color bombs, and Blue had 2x Mulldrifters, three of the four permission spells (Faerie Trickery was absent), and a decent ammount of Merfolk. It also had Oona's Prowler, which is one of the rares I want the most for Constructed. Oh well, let's not get attached to that right? I make friends with the guy in front of me and notice that the guy in my left got an insane GWR pool (2x Wizened Cenn, 2x Cenn's Heir, 2x Kithkin Greatheart, 1x Masked Admirers, 2x Berserker Changeling, 1x Giant Harbringer, 1x Hamletback Goliath, 1x Oblivion Ring, 1x Neck Snap, 1x Lignify, 2x of the Green evoke dude that's a giant growth: 3G, 3/3, Flash, +3/+3, Evoke 1G). Then the judge starts announcing the swap:
''you are going to pass your cards to the right''
Yay! Insane GWr ftw!
My rares were:
Guile
Hamletback Goliath
Masked Admirers
Ancient Amphitheater
Cairn Wanderer
After a quick inspection my Blue was also great: Drowner of Secrets, 2x Mulldrifter, Guile, many merfolks, the ''all merfolk untap'' enchantment, and I had two of the uncommon White 2/2 merfolk that gets a +1/+1 counter when it taps. I figured GRr had a lot more synergy though, because I had three changelings which could greatly help my greathearts, Wizened Cenn, Cenn's Heir, and the Amphitheatre too. I splashed the two berserker changelings with 1 mountain, 1 RW dual, 1 grotto, and 1 of the artifact that searches for a basic land. The deck had a decent ammount of fixing so I played 8 plains and 6 forests due to the Cenns (I had a leaf gilder to help get the GG for Masked Admirers, as well as grotto and the artifact).
The deck was really strong and was curving amazingly well. I opened 4-0, but unfortunately I started to get screwed by then. I played the guy that had ALL the merfolks (the changeling that copies any creature, fallowsage, the 2/2 that bounces, summon the school, etc, etc) and that eventually placed second, so that was my first loss. On the 5th round I loss due to color screw game 1 (green) and mana flood g2 (13 lands anyone?), and I got pretty pissed at the 7th round. My opponent was late so that was 1-0 for me, but then he proceeded to beat me game 2 and on game three, his mulligan to five was:
forest, swamp, grotto, elf harbringer, the night's whisper for four with clash.
He went land, land, land, harbringer for Wren's Run Packmaster. 2/2 deathtouch wolves brought me down before I could draw any of my removal spells (lignify, o-ring, neck snap). I had a ton of giants and big creatures but all of them are wimps against wolves due to no evasion. Oh well.
I traded for the Oona's Prowler with the guy that got my pool, and I also traded my prerelease card for a Sower of Temptations + Goldmeadow Stalwart + 5 bucks. Nice trade imho ^^
The winner got a box and sold it to me, so I got a lot of cool rares (+3 of the tribelands, another prowler and sower, brion, wort, mad auntie, no cashseize though). I also got almost all the uncommons/commons I wanted (4x ponder, 3x tarfire, 3 or four of all the ''reveal or pay 3'' dudes, 3x crib swap), and much more. Nice!
Oh and I got a FOIL Incandescent Soulstoke, which will be scanned later so I can brag about it to you, Car
Talk to you guys later, I have to get back to work now. See ya!
@Honza - Heh, I was extremely luck in clash battles this weekend as well. Gilt-Leaf Ambush helped me a lot.
Well, my prerelease was fine. I ended 2nd out of some 50 people in the swiss, but lost in the top 8. My deck was solid but not ridiculous like some of my top 8 colleagues. I had two very exciting games: one in the top 8, when I was at 1 life and my opponent was at 20, and I still managed to win (but sadly lost the other two games, and thus didn't advance), and another during the swiss that went like this:
Granted, my opponent had a really slow start, playing only Fertile Ground and Runed Stalactite, and a creature that didn't matter. Still, it felt amazing.
The rest of my weekend was so-so. I managed to have fun on Saturday night for a while, but after some beers I got all sad and missing Rebeca, who was travelling with her mom like I said. I felt very tempted to SMS her then, but thankfully, oh God thankfully, I didn't. (High five, Shady!)
EDIT: Aww, Rafa, opening 4-0 and then falling off? That sucks. Hopefully you'll get that fifthvictory in time when Morningtide rolls around.
Oh and I got a FOIL Incandescent Soulstoke, which will be scanned later so I can brag about it to you, Car
Thanks, Raf bro, in advance. I hope I will get mine as soon as the online store puts the foils online. I really dig that pic.
The sad thing is that although I got it, I had no good evokers to play it with, and very few elementals. I did not play Ceaseless Searblades because the only one critter that would pump it would be Fire-Belly Changeling. But I had to have been attracting the Soulstokes yesterday, because the guy over the table had TWO of them :), none foil.
My fav game was something in lines of:
1. Plains, Goldmeadow Stalwart, reveal Knight of Meadowgrain.
2. Plains, Knight of Meadowgrain, attack with Stalwart. (20-18)
3. Mountain, Springjack Knight, attack with both. (22-14)
4. Mountain, Lash Out out his only blocker, winning clash by revealing Changeling Titan, keeping it. (22-11) Attacking with all, clashing for Springjack Knight, winning again thanks to the Titan, doublestrike to Knight of Meadowgrain, Blades of Velis Vel to KoM and Springjack, total swing for 4x2+4+2 = 14. Go Kithkin (36-0)
As you said, Rick bro - my opponent had also slow start, coincidentally also with Stalactite, but anyway: things like turn 4 kithkin kill just HAVE to feel great.
A funny fact...I was extremely lucky when clashing for the double strike, but I think that I never clashed successfully for Gilt-Leaf Ambush, always left only with standard chumpblockers. Yeah, maybe once I succeeded, when I played it just for having something to champion with the Titan.
Now I am working, among others, on the spoiler translation. I want my two boxes again :), and some nice foil rare on top. Having cracked Teferi in TS, Ohran Viper in CS, Glittering Wish in FS and Platinum Angel in Tenth, I hope for Doran, Teeg or Thoughtseize
I spent this day at home, wrestling some kind of cold that's bothering me since the USA trip, and going for the tourney did not helped me to get better, you can imagine. But when I realized that I have really weak knees and a slight fever, I decided that the best thing is to take a day off today.
Have a great time, amigos, back soon again!

@Honza - First turn Stalwart revealing Meadowgrain Knight is pure evil. Almost as evil as a play some guy did against me: second-turn Squeaking Pie Sneak revealing Mad Auntie. Needless to say, he had a turn-four Marsh Flitter.
Hope everyone's week is going well. Mine's been kinda uneventful, which at least is a plus after the craze that was last week here at work.

Well, after the prerelease I got another batch of tasks, and in the meantime I am working on the translation of the Lorwyn spoiler. The whole next week I off to Poland like last year, for a conference. Therefore, I am trying to do as much as possible now.
Have a great day, everyone

Classic.
Which reminds me... Honza, you owe us some!

Yep, bro, and just this afternoon I suddenly realized that my promise is still lacking its fulfillment. I'll make sure to host the best of them tomorrow and post them here.
Dekuju, kamarade ;-). Hehe, to mi pripomina, jak si tu chvili psali kolegove recky. Je dobre byt na druhe strane Ok, enough :p.
Glad to have you back, Vik, and I am really glad that you enjoyed the summer break. Even more I am glad that everything goes OK with Silvia.

Oooh, I like me some gossip! Gossiping is almost like a state of mind. But seeing how there usually are few people around there at Swindon, I suppose things are much like Dawson's Creek, where everyone makes out with everyone?

WOTC: lol! Full spoiler in Scrye! DOH!

Yo bro !
I'd really want to know if that was a planned thing or an unbelievable mistake from Scrye
Anyway, I promised some pics, and here they are:
The center of Providence
Me & the Providence skyline
A pic from walking around the downtown, taken by the auto-shoot from a marble wall
and two aerial ones, a sunrise above Atlantic and flying above Alps.

Woah, I never thought that any of you would have thought that I was serious when I said that stuff. It was just a little tongue-in-cheek. I know, I should have put a in there somewhere, but it seemed like too long a comment for that.
Nietzche?
Many thanks to:
Sig: CharlieD at Limited Edition Signatures
Avvy: XenoNinja at HotP Studios
I never read any of them in depth, but I always thought Nietzche was kinda funny with all the pessimism and stuff. Not sure if I'd be able to take an entire book's worth of him, though.

Agreed here. Harry always deserved something good to happen to him. I'm not disputing that. I'm just saying that there might have been a little more, well, normalcy in the Harry/Ginny relationship. Have some sort of typical teenage quarrel or something.
You mean, don't shatter them any more than bringing the series to an end would shatter their happiness? If you're going to shatter the dreams of children like that, why not go all the way?:p
Well, the big reason I wanted to go with Nietzche was the whole "God is dead" thing. Plus, after reading an entire series that had a happy ending, I think I need a little depression to get me back in balance or something.:p

Oh yes....Changelings. There's probably the funniest Magic art ever.
H.

Man, I looove Lorwyn art. I guess that makes it an even set for me - I like some individual cards, dislike the theme and love the art.
EDIT: Way to go Vax! Show them how it's done.

@Vax: Gogo Vax! hehe
I always walk away with a booster box even if I have to buy the packs (which are cheaper at the event) so at the very least, well, that ^^
7x Forest
1x Swamp
1x Shimmering Grotto
1x Galepowder Mage
1x Elvish Branchbender
1x Imperious Perfect
1x Avian Changeling
1x Plover Knights
1x Kithkin Harbinger
1x Nath's Elite
1x Knight of Medowgrain
1x Veteran of the Depths
1x Gilt-Leaf Seer
1x Bog-Strider Ash
1x Oakgnarl Warrior
1x Kinsbaile Balloonist
1x Jagged-Scar Archers
2x Nameless Inversion
1x Eyeblight's Ending
1x Gilt-Leaf Ambush
1x Summon the School
1x Wanderer's Twig
1x Lammastide Weave
1x Moonglove Extract

Let this great clan rest in peace (2001-2011)
Island, Ponder, go.
Forest, Woodland Changeling. go.
Forest, attack with Woodland Changeling. At the end of my opponent's turn, play Gilt-Leaf Ambush.
Island, attack with everything, play Garruk Wildspeaker, untap two lands, play another Woodland Changeling.
-4 loyalty to Garruk, attack with everyone, gg.

Hope everyone's week is going well. Mine's been kinda uneventful, which at least is a plus after the craze that was last week here at work.

Car, here's the soulstoke pic I promised. It's not that good but it's the best I could get. I'll try again later ^^
Ok guys I'm off, hope all's well with you
Ouch :(...
Well, after the prerelease I got another batch of tasks, and in the meantime I am working on the translation of the Lorwyn spoiler. The whole next week I off to Poland like last year, for a conference. Therefore, I am trying to do as much as possible now.
Have a great day, everyone

EDIT: RAF!!! Whoa, what a picture :o:o. Must....have....it :p. Really, nice one.
