Anyways, I gotta run. Poker night tonight. Laters peeps.
So, for some reason my computer won't connect to the internet. I'm using my roommate's laptop right now. Not sure how much I like these things. Seems a little awkward. Of course, judging from my recent escapades, I should be used to feeling awkward.
Made it to the final table for poker last Tuesday. I felt damn proud as well. Maybe I'll actually win next time. I'm quite sure my skill is improving.
What movie is the whole "Ziggy Piggy" thing from, anyway? My brain isn't functioning properly as of late. I think its due to being hungover 24/7. And no, I don't find it (or anything else for that matter) offensive.
I'm so frusterated about the whole job scene! Seems every interview I've had the past couple weeks was just for show (or pity). I'm tired of getting jerked around. Called a temp service the other day out of desperation:
"Hi, I was wondering if you had any jobs available."
"Are you registered with us?"
"No, but I will if there's any work. Its a fifteen minute bus ride there and it usually takes an hour to do all that. I'm in a bit of a financial pinch and would feel safer commiting if I knew there was work."
"Well, you'd have to register first before we can tell you."
*sigh* "Alright, I'll be there within a half hour."
So, after going through the motions, the receptionist says, "We don't have anything right now, but will call you if something comes in."
Bill + Ted's, when they take Napoleon for ice cream.
ediiit -
(San Dimas - Ziggy Piggy)
(Deacon has taken Napoleon to an ice cream shop. He's brought friends of his, two red-headed twins. Two Ziggy Piggy employees come over. They set down a huge bowl of ice cream.)
ZP Employee: Behold. Behold, the Ziggy Pig. The single greatest ice cream spectacle known to man.
ZP Employees: Eat the pig. Eat the pig. Ziggy ziggy ziggy zig.
(They leave.)
Napoleon: Un barton.
Deacon: It's ice cream. You eat it.
(Napoleon tastes it.)
Napoleon: Le glace?
Deacon: Whatever, just eat it.
(They all dig in.)
(Later, the bowl is almost empty except for some melted ice cream on the bottom. Napoleon cuts off one of the girls spoon so he can have the rest himself and he burps. The ZP Employees come back over.)
ZP Employee: All behold, he ate the pig. Thus proving that he's a Ziggy Piggy, Ziggy Piggy, Ziggy Piggy.
(They pick up the bowl and make pig snorting noises as they walk away. Napoleon uses his finger to pick up some remaining ice cream that was on the table. He licks his finger while Deacon and the girls look on in disgust.)
FINALLY! Our internet service was cut off for the past while by Rogers because of some virus. Had to wipe this entire thing. And then when I went on yesterday (i think it was) and was posting the thing died again. That was nothing virus-related but just annoying. Anyways, I caught up reading and whatnot but am out the door then going to my dad's tonight so you won't hear from me again until tomorrow night or monday.
Mike, great jokes. I don't care who you are and what you've done with Mike as long as you stay funny. OH, and you'll get my profile at some point. Just busy with math class stuff recently.
I'm using my roommate's laptop right now. Not sure how much I like these things.
Laptops are aweful. I can't stand the compressed kepboard, bad layout of drives and plugs, complete lack of a mouse, and the fact that you need to have them plugged into the wall most of the time anyway. They sacrifice functionarlity, power, and efficiency for portability, but they're not very portable at all. Definitely not worth it. I think people buy them because they're expensive. Like automatic cars. Not as fun to drive, not as powerful, not as safe, higher maintenance costs, and more expensive. Just so you don't have to move your limbs as much. OoooOOoooOOooh.
I've been using a laptop since we moved back(borrowing it from a friend until we get a PC)..and it's not great. I mean, I plugged a mouse into it, so at least I don't have to use the ridiculous touchpad, and the drive layout etc. actually isn't that bad, but, it's still annoying. If we don't have it plugged in, the battery life seems to be only a few hours, and the screen dims ridiculously when you're using the battery
I don't really get the comparison to automatic cars though..I don't think that automatics are so bad. I'd probably say that they have a lower maintainance cost, since you're not going to burn out a million clutches on them, and they seem more safe to me, at least, considering how well people drive(not very) as it is, I'd rather have them driving automatics, which take less effort and ability, than manuals. Plus, even if they drove a manual, too many people would still try to constantly use their cell phones, which is a huge recipe for disaster.
True. I wouldn't want all those bad (old) drivers jolting around the road in manuals. But for me, and any decent driver out there, manuals are better IMO. I've driven my Civic 100,000 km now and the clutch is still in nearly new condition. I guess it depends how hard you bag on it.
Yeah true, you're probably only going to put alot of wear on it when you're first learning to drive. I agree that manuals are infinitely better overall, and I wish they were easier to find(I love the fact that you can't find manuals anymore, but, when you buy an automatic, the automatic transmission is considered an 'upgrade').
Robynne - You do realize you've a ready source for help in all things math related, right? * Binary Dragon points at self.
Daron - Now all laptops suck. Mine has a full keyboard (including number pad,) a 17 inch widescreen monitor, a pair of USB ports on either side of the computer for mice and the like, and not one, but two hard drive bays. Highly upgraded, it only cost $1500, which isn't that expensive compared to the cost of an analagous desktop on monitor. I also get 4 hours battery life, unless I'm doing something silly like rendering complex graphics while burning CD roms and keeping the CPU at 100% usage. And honestly, I'm not sure how I'd be able to make it through college without the portability it offers me. I take it to class every day, and I'm constantly using it in places other than the bedroom/office. Nothing make writting a paper better than writting on while sitting out on the hammock
Nick - All laptops I've ever seen have an adjustable screen brightness. You should be able to turn up the brightness all the way, even when unplugged. They just default them to dim when unplugged to increase battery performance. Take a look at your function keys (usually written in blue on the keyboard. The brightness controls should be there somewhere.)
On the topic of Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure, I dare say it has the funniest Wikipedia entry I've seen.
Quote from Wiki »
The movie's entire plot is a model example of a Predestination paradox, wherein Bill and Ted are entrusted with the means to dramatically improve the entire universe of the future by a citizen (Rufus) of that very future. Near the end of the movie, Ted solves the problem of breaking into the jail by exploiting this paradox, demonstrating an unexpected (probably to himself as well) level of temporal insight. Knowing that time travellers (themselves) in the future world can provide aid to those in their current situation (as Rufus does originally), they resolve to help themselves break into the jail by stealing Ted's dad's keys from a couple of days ago and leaving them where they will be found at the exact moment of the resolution. The astute viewer may reflect at this point that Ted's dad complained about having lost his keys at the beginning of the film, which Ted at that time knows nothing about. This accordance with the Novikov self-consistency principle, suggests that there was never any possibility for Bill and Ted to fail. The same accordance lends validity to the fact that their removing critical figureheads from history does not cause the world of present-day San Dimas to be drastically different. Moreover, and perhaps more relevant, their history project remains impressive insofar as the history produced by the characters has not been modified by their absence. Bill and Ted are paradoxically bound to return them all afterwards, unscathed.
Of course, the abundance of flagrant macroscopic time travel flouts the chronology protection conjecture, which one may handle via suspension of disbelief.

The Japan Alps were awsome. I ended up doing a kiddy mountain (well seemed like it to me) because a guide recomended it. Bairly got past the treeline and the bushes were able to grow over the top. Beautiful view of the real tall stuff and it was a fun hike. I'll post pics in a day or two. Probably good that she recomended that as I really didn't have time to endulge myself on a real good mountain. Plus she was cute.
Cost way too much for two days of hiking, just over 9 hours of hiking. I haven't sat down yet to really think about it...but I think transportation alone cost over $200.
I'm at the internet caffe again. My kind of place really. I accidently walked into a highclass hotel....have you ever walked into a place that you felt outclassed you by a ton? I mean I'm not the bottom of the barrel, I'm above washing with a rag on a stick and all that jazz...but not that far above. :-p

Mike, thanks for the offer, but it's grade 12 college bound math. If I can't figure it out (been having no problems recently) I have no business trying to go any further academically than I already have (given my choice of future profession).
Daron & Nick, as one learning to drive and having difficulties keep track of everything at once, I am definitely supporting automatics right now. Though once I've gotten a better hang of it I do plan to drive manuals.
Oh come on Robynne, I have more faith in you than you do! Get in that stick shift and off you go. The best way to learn is on the stick, and you can drive anything. Really, there's so much more power and control. No tapping the accelerator to try to get it to shift to a different gear for a hill, engine breaking when rolling up to a light, faster acceleration if you need to zip ahead in a hurry, etc. It takes a couple months of weekly practice to get it down, but then you just take off with it. Within a year you're "fluent" and don't even have to think about driving at all.
Chris, that sounds so nice. I would have probably survived that hike.. sounds like a good intermediate type. $200 for transport? Ouch, man. At least you've got paychecks, though.
Learning to drive a manual when you originally learned on an automatic is literally inf. harder than just learning it first. Also, 'learning' an automatic if you initially learned a manual is ridiculously easy. Please believe me, you should learn a manual first. If you don't, once you start driving, you'll never be motivated to learn a manual.

Sticks are easy, and have more power...though I still have trouble on hills. I bought an automatic because it seems more people know how to drive it so if I need to sell I get more money. Course it is a Hyundai so I may drive it into the ground....assuming I ever get to drive it again.
Well I haven't gotten my first full time paycheck yet. Just waiting for that. In the meantime I'll need to get some money out of the bank. Seems I'm stretched really thin, bairly got enough to get me home tonight. I wont get paid for another few days.
I'm real excited about this paycheck though. It will mean august is the first month in eight that I am able to pay for my car and bills. I'll just be sending home the minimum $500 to my dad a month、thats car, student loans, and creditcards. Then I'll see where my monthly spending goes and hopefully send $1000 by next paycheck right into those blasted credit cards. If I'm able to do that I'll have both paychecks completely paid off in....um...seven months. After that it is a smooth six months before my parents are paid off and I'm just left with the minimums on my car and student loans. Something I can live with, though I think only 14 months of this plan will have those gone too.
Thats assuming I don't do anything stupid like spend $100 on a weekend drinking or $400 on a weekend of hiking and overpaid transportation. Not to mention the supposed $700 I might spend to visit my family for 4 days and however much christmas might costs.
Hmmm....why is it that when I think of getting paid and the promise of finaly getting everything squared away and paid off I have this strange pitfall feeling in my stomach and an overwhelming feeling of doom?
Gee, I wonder if I will have enough for an appartment, health insurance, Japanese lessons, and perhaps Kendo lessons. Incidently, I just learned that kendo costs more than all my camera equipment.

Heh, you'll never get any money out of a Hyundai anyway, unless it's a Tiburon. Those cars are like Kias..cheap to buy, with virtually no resale value.
Anyway, now that you're making your own money, it's important that you not get into a habit of just spending money arbitrarily..please take it from me, I know from alot of first hand experience. Even if it leaves you with little personal money, spend as much paying bills as you can, especially since you've been neglecting them for 8 months.
Always pay yourself first - yes, even before you pay taxes. Make sure you're paying your debts, your costs, and pay into your savings and investments. Then pay your taxes, bills, rent, and so on. This is one step to becoming rich. Really. So why aren't I rich? Hah. Working on it.
Seds, now you're thinking! Are you putting money into RRSPs yet? If you start before you're 25, and put away just 100 a month, you could retire happily off that money ALONE by 58 or something. Not to mention the tax breaks you get when you invest into an RRSP.
This financial gibberish brought to you by rancored_elf. Rancored_elf: Living paycheck to paycheck since 1998.
Maybe taxes here work differently than in Canada...here, taxes are taken out of your paycheck by your employer, and then you file them at the end of the year, which generally results in people getting some of what they put into taxes back(some of the money that they take out can't be recouped..money that they take for Social Security, etc). I'm not sure what 'pay yourself' means.
So, after becoming frustrated by the Wi-Fi connection in the living room, I moved my computer into my bedroom. It works twice as well now. Hooray!
Went to Clerks II on Saturday. I laughed throughout the entire film. Whether it was the G or just really funny isn't the point. The best scene is Rosario Dawson's rooftop dance. That was worth the price of admission alone.
Later that evening, we traveled to another friend's to play poker. $5 buy-ins. My first real money game since last year. I didn't have any money though, considering I'd borrowd money for the movie. One of the people said they'd spot me the $5. Three hours later, I freakin' won $30.
After taking a shot of booze and doing a happy little jig to celebrate, I gladly agreed to play another game. A few hours later, I won that game as well! So, I now had $55.
Needless to say, I've got some G to smoke and food to eat. Hopefully its a sign that things will perk up around here.
Oh, and I drive an automatic. I learned how to drive a stick (although I'm not that good) after learning an automatic... but I don't care for it.
That's the one thing that I really dislike(alot) about using wireless stuff..your connection speed is drastically lowered even when you're not that far at all from the router.
