Actually I love Swap for either the second or third "set" in the proposed block in the contest (probably third). But that Distorting Portal is just as cool for it as well... of course that could go for the first set as well. Since we need a few ideas for Revenge:
It's Not Too Dark For Me! :1mana::symb::symb:
Sorcery
Creatures you control have Gothwalk. (As long as your opponent is wearing a black shirt and black pants, creatures you control are unblockable)
Revenge - :1mana::symb::symb:
Yeah too narrow. But couldn't resist.
Showoff! :symu::symr:
Sorcery
As an additional cost to play Showoff, do something.
Target opponent can try to do the chosen thing. If that opponent can't do that thing or chooses not to do that thing, Showoff deals 5 damage to that player and you draw a card.
Revenge - :symu::symr:, Do something different
Brain is fried.... too much card creation...
Edit: Note: I've been tryin to finish up my old Origins set hence too much CC in my life lately. The good news is I've only got about 40 cards to go... all of which are creatures... in red and green... so yeah. dude, Master Alchemy is broken.

also you need to change the wording abit. the way you put it... sounds like you add all the mana costs. make it:

Man Utter, i never thought of using leveler. lol comboness.
Ok I like Swap too. But to make it even more devastating how about this.
Swap - 10UUURRR
Sorcery
Exchange hands, graveyards, libraries, life totals, and permanents with target player.
Alchemy - 2U or [/mana]2R[/mana]
That's especially nasty if you can empty your hand Of course you could change it to "Exchange control of permanents you control and cards in your hand with target player."
Ok I'm liking that distorting portal too. It works well with things like Isochron Scepter as well as Rush of Knowledge and this mechanic so it's not completely useless. Also it works well to stop things like Pernicious Deed and Powder Keg and Engineered Explosives from being too volitile.
So maybe Distorting Portal can be in the second set. I wouldn't want to face it in the first set in limited.
Crimson.... I don't think Maridian is good cuz it's too similar to Mirrodin. Maybe we can think of a rogue storyline and use that to name the sets? Maybe we can even poke fun at the other clans (all in good humor).
Phyrexian: I couldn't find a character for 1/3rd hehe. That's why I made them 1/4th and lowered the cost
So far for Alchemy I like Swap, Distorting Portal, and Grasp of Reality. I don't think the cards have to be splashy as long as they get the point across. Grasp of Reality is basically a free Abolish. so that's hot. Change it to "it can't be regenerated" or make it green and it can't be regenerated and I like it.
So let's see. Our block here's what I've got. Warning I started typing then... just didn't stop.
X is the story of a computer driven world. Science has taken over and Magic is dwindling in both power and numbers. What magic is left is relegated to those willing to accept the master design. The giant CPU at the center of the plane hands out magic spells and those willing to submit themselves fully are allowed to thrive and prosper. The story is about two brothers. Their father told them stories when they were younger about wonderful magic not found within the database of the CPU. These brothers grew up with fanciful imaginations which was hard to understand in such a gray based world. With the small spells they learned from their father they decide to battle in the local mage contest. The eldest uses passionate nature magic and summons the largest beasts in the realm to defend him. The younger is more diplomatic and faces his opponents with a silver tongue and constant regeneration of self. His spells lock the opponent’s advances down and eventually the competition falls to just one brother against another. One has to win but both are glad to have participated in the event. Unfortunately as they begin to battle their father steps in the battle zone. He tells them he can feel a strange presence he hasn’t felt since the computers overthrew the land. As he gets closer the ground shakes and he has a vision of the incoming attackers. He sense their next moves and their intents because he is certainly a master magician. He sees through the enemy’s eyes and knows that his sons are in danger. For using magic. Illegal magic. That he himself taught them. He throws a leaf of salamander’s breath at his eldest son and a fragment of cat’s eye mineral at his youngest. Force-fields of White and Blue, Green and Red surround his sons and the attackers arrive. Without going into much more detail I figure the attackers kill the father as he tries to distract them from getting his sons. His last spell sends his sons into far parts of the plane. One in a forest at the base of a dormant volcano. The other at the entrance to the frozen lake of the deep south. His aim is to let them live free and in a habitat where they’ll be most comfortable. He also knows from his travels that the natives of those lands still practice old magic and his sons will have the opportunity to grow in that respect. That’s where we get the two mechanics. One is derived from the younger brother. He’s wise and diplomatic and very curious. His experiments in the harsh conditions of a frozen lake, tundra, and the wastes of a great river force him to draw mana where he can. He learns that he can will energy into his body by temporarily forgetting certain spells. The energy he was using to remember those spells releases mana into his veins and allows him to cast spells greater than anything anyone has ever seen. At that instant he becomes more powerful than his surroundings and knows he has to use this special gift to overthrow the computer dominated realm.
The older brother only sees his father’s death. It’s what motivates him. His hatred for the computers of the world fuel his transformation. He gets angry at nature because it turned its back on him and couldn’t defend his father. The forest around him quickly turns to tar and the dormant volcano becomes more volatile. Wherever he walks spells eek out of his brain. He’s constantly feeding on mana and his spells have a tendency to linger. That’s where we get the second mechanic. He finally figures out that spells are cumulative. If you practice a spell enough you can use it even when you’re using a different spell. Every time he sees the image of his father’s death inside his head he’s able to invoke a spell with a lot less effort. He knows that in order to resolve his anger he has to destroy the computers and thus Revenge is born.
OK! So. That’s how we get our mechanics… in my head at least lol. I figure the first book is about the separation and the younger brother. The second set is about the older brother. The third set is about how if they work together they can defeat the computer and restore the world the way it was before the computers took over. Also they find out that their dad is still alive and he’s a planeswalker now. Yeah…. Someone had to be J Them joining together completes the REAL spell that their father was casting as he “died” He set into motion the events that would cripple the world and allow for “replanting”. When the two brothers finally work together a blast of energy explodes from them both. The salamander’s breath and the cat’s eye mineral combine and form a vision of their father which eventually coalesces into tangibility as the power of the computers weakens. He becomes a planeswalker at that point and sets the plane right. Then he leaves the plane as planeswalkers are prone to do.
So with that in mind, and if you guys feel like that’s an okay way to explain things, can we get three set names for the block? Remember I figure the first set should focus on Alchemy the second on Revenge and the third on both. That would let us put the Distorting Portal in the first set but not have it be too overpowered because there’s a strategically less dramatic focus on Alchemy in the second set.
So is that copacetic?
BTW Memory Regained is busted broken. Turn 2 Arc Slogger, turn three Remove the top 30 cards of your library from the game then play this thing by removing the rest of your hand from the game..... then get it all back and since it's all Alchemy related stuff you just play everything for free. If you ask me that's perfect.
Memory Regained - 6UU Sorcery Put all cards that were removed from the game this turn into their owner's hands. Alchemy - 2(Memory Regained costs2 less to play for each card you remove from your hand from the game with a converted mana cost of 5 or more.) Also Crimson. I like the thought of Gothwalk but I don't see how it's any different from "Creatures can't block this turn"... except that it's strictly worse. Maybe....
3BB Creatures you control have Gothwalk and get +1/+0 for each article of black clothing you can see from your seat. Revenge - 2 (Cuz hating goth is really every color isn't it? ;))
Nice activity guys.... Sorry Im having a very stressed out december, hence my relative inactivity... hope I can get bac to normal posting habits on January !!
Ok then I'm calling these cards for concrete submissions. To make show off a little different I'm going to change it to Black Blue and instead of damage it'll be "Lose 5 Life" that way we don't have two red blue submissions. And I wanted to make sure you guys know I'm only cementing these because our deadline is upon us. We've got to get these in and I don't want to be late. We've got good ideas here so let's work on the last Un Submission and the 3 Set names.
Distorting Portal will be in the first set. I figure it's fine to use it in order to enhance the Alchemy Mechanic in the first set. It allows people to get used to the mechanic. Eventually they won't need it. Do note that this lets your lands act as 5 CMC for Alchemy. It also lets everything cost 1 for Trinket Mage and Artificer's Intuition. It lets things cost 2 for Isochron Scepter. It lets things cost 8 for your Necroplasm deck and saves your permanents not only for Necroplasm but later when you pop your deed for 4 all your permanents are saved for costing 5. It lets your Alchemy work at 5. It lets silly things happen with Rush for Knowledge, Torrent of Fire and the like.
Distorting Portal X
Legendary Artifact
Permanents you control, cards in your hand, library, graveyard, and cards you own that are not in the game have the converted mana cost of X.
Alchemy - (Distorting Portal costs less to play for each card you remove from your hand from the game with a converted mana cost of 5 or more.) "Its original intent was never quite clear. Then the Rogues descended upon the plane and its purposes flourished."
What a dumb card -_-. It's really stupid how many uses Distorting Portal actually has lol. Unfortunately the main reason to use it is so you can set it to 0 on your first turn when you cast Isochron Scepter imprinting Searing Wind.
Swap is in the second set where the younger brother of our block is messing with his newfound alchemy and learning to use it to his advantage.
Swap - 6UUURRR
Sorcery
Exchange permanents, hands, and life totals with target player.
Alchemy 2U or 2R(Swap costs2U or 2R less to play for each card you remove from your hand from the game with a converted mana cost of 5 or more.)
Memory Regained will be one of the final chapters of the third book in the block. The younger son casts this spell and his brother casts a revenge spell and that's what brings their father back. Or something. Memory Regained will represent the replenishing of not only their father but the world as he knew it before the computers took over.
Memory Regained - 6UU
Sorcery Put all cards that were removed from the game this turn into their owner's hands. Alchemy - 2(Memory Regained costs less to play for each card you remove from your hand from the game with a converted mana cost of 5 or more.)
Un Mechanics so far:
Stampede is un enough and simple enough to be in the first set. The revenge cost is low and easy to understand. There's not a lot of text so we can fit the reminder text on the card.
Stampede of Tiny Elephants - :2mana::symg::symg:
Sorcery
Put 4 ¼/¼ Tiny Green Elephant tokens with Trample into play.
Revenge - :symg::symg: (At the beginning of each upkeep, if long as an opponent controls a Tier 1 card you may pay :symg::symg:. If you do, add Stampede of Tiny Elephants' effect to each spell you play this turn.)
Showoff! UB
Sorcery
As an additional cost to play Showoff choose something and do it..
If target opponent cannot copy the thing you chose or chooses not to he or she loses 5 life and you draw a card.
Revenge - UB, Choose something that hasn't been chosen before and do it.
Showoff will be in the second set just like Swap. It's multicolor and we'll stick that to the same set. It's also a little more un and a little more complicated. I especially like the Revenge cost. And note that it gets difficult after a while, especially if you play more than 2 spells a turn
Now we need a third card for the Un Mechanic. Ideas?
Nice work blue! I was in an O-gaming tourney since 2 PM otherwise I would've done this myself. I want to submit by noon tommorow so we need that last card. Also for clarity's sake, regarding alchemy, I assume its OK to get no bonus points or is there some way I should word it so we can get it?
Reverse Alchemy wouldn't work very well... Since "This card costs 2U more unless you remove a card with a converted mana cost of 5 or more from your hand" is pretty much the same as Alchemy. The difference is that the Alchemy cards would be 5 or more already.
Maybe color specific Alchemy?
Break Wind - 3UU
Instant
Tap all creatures. Then, if you removed a Red card for this card's Alchemy deal 3 damage to each tapped creature.
Alchemy 1
Who's the Beatdown? 3RRG
Sorcery
Put a legendary copy of each creature card your opponent controls, into play under your control.
Revenge- 2RG
"Gimme your sandwich"

Sometimes those with the most sin cast the first stones.
We still need set names people. I'm willing to take the first decent submission that comes. Otherwise I'm going with my earlier submission with Maridian et al. I think we have enough Revenge cards to submit but one or two more that comes off the top of your head wouldn't hurt things. I'm going to submit at 8 PM EST....
Hey Crimson. Did you read that storyline? See if you can come up with an idea for block names using that.
Marid Rising
Backlash
Restoration
The Rogues gain power then are exterminated then somehow still manage to win in Backlash.
Prime Maridian - BGG
Legendary Creature - Human Wizard Rogue t: Target card in a graveyard has Revenge equal to its manacost.
4/2
Kami Kazi - B
Instant
Lose 1/2 a life. Each opponent gains 1/2 a life.
Dark Revenge - B(At the beginning of each upkeep if an opponent controls a tier one card you may pay 1B. If you do add Kami Kazi's effect to spells each opponent plays this turn.)
Spinning the Pinwheel of Doom - RR
Instant
Spin a bottle. The player to which the bottle points flips a coin. If he wins, that player takes control of this turn. Otherwise target player gains control of this turn.
Dark Revenge - Skip your next turn
BTW! Anyone in the room can be picked by the Pinwheel of Doom. So if someone at a different table happens to be pointed to that player stops their game to come finish the turn.
Unfortunately those cards don't quite work as they need to have the same reminder text (exactly from what I understand) to fit the criteria.... Altho I am taking those set names as they are the best so far. I'll make the correction now.
Edit: Also the storyline was unnecessary but thanks for the effort!
ok then change the revenge text to "Whenever a player plays a spell add this cards effect to that spell" That way we can have proactive things, and defensive things.
Counter Counter - U
Instant
Counter this spell.
Revenge - UUUU(At the beginning of each upkeep if an opponent controls a tier 1 card you may pay UUUU. If you do add this card's effect to all spells played this turn)
Quote from Crimson Avatar »
ARD, Home of the Rogue Deckers, is proud to present a NFPE (Not For Pro Eyes) production... Oh wait that's the secret movie we're working on.... I'm afraid we have nothing for you to- Wait! (what's that?... mmmhhmmm... OK). I'm proud to say we've finish not ONE; not TWO; but THREE WHOLE SETS for you. Simply amazing. However, we'll only be previewing two cards from each of them today so as to demonstrate the keywords for this block. I know, I know, you want more but this will simply have to do.
First up, the keywords. We decided to do something strange this time around and have our second keyword be comical in nature. I hope you enjoy this change as much as we have playing with it: Alchemy X (Each card with converted mana cost 5 or more you move from your hand to the removed from game zone reduces the cost of this spell by X.) Revenge X (At the beginning of your upkeep, if this card is in your graveyard, and as long as an opponent controls a Tier 1 permanent, you may pay X. If you do, add this cards effects to instants and sorceries you play this turn.)
Here's some cards AND the set names to give you an example of what sort of things you can expect with these little mechanics:
The first set of the block is named Marid Rising. With this block being all about the rogueness out there and Marid meaning rebellious in Arabic among other things (according to a google search) we thought that name might not be so bad. And now for the first two cards:
Distorting Portal Legendary Artifact Permanents you control, cards in your hand, library, graveyard, and cards you own that are not in the game have converted mana cost X. Alchemy "Its original intent was never quite clear. Then the Rogues descended upon the plane and its purposes flourished."
Stampede of Tiny Elephants :2mana::symg::symg: Sorcery Put four 1/4/1/4 green Tiny Elephant tokens into play. Revenge :symg::symg:
Our second set is named Backlash:
Swap :6mana::symu::symu::symu::symr::symr::symr: Sorcery Exchange permanents, hands, and life totals with target player. Alchemy :2mana::symu: or :2mana::symr:
Showoff! :symu::symb: Sorcery As an additional cost to play Showoff!, choose something and do it. If target opponent can't copy the thing you chose or chooses not to do it, he or she loses 5 life and you draw a card. Revenge - :symu::symb:, Choose something that hasn't been chosen before and do it.
The third set is named Restoration:
Memory Regained :6mana::symu::symu: Sorcery Put all cards that were removed from the game this turn into their owner's hands. Alchemy
NAZMC (National Association for the Zombification of Multicolored Creatures) (No casting cost) Sorcery Destroy target creature that is more than one color. If it's destroyed in this way, return it to play under your control. Then return target multicolored creature card from a graveyard to play under your control. :symwb::symwb:, Discard NAZMC: Draw a card. Revenge :3mana::symwb::symwb:
And there's our preview for now. Be sure to tune in to this website for more advance information. That is if isn't leaked first...
Ninja Edit for new set names (Christmas crunch killed us...)
ACK! Just change NAZMC to Cycling :symwb::symwb: It's the same effect.
Revenge should say "At the beginning of your upkeep, if ~this is in your graveyard and an opponent controls a Tier 1 card you may pay X. If you do, add ~this card's effect to spells played this turn."
It shouldn't discriminate against creatures and permanents and you don't have to say "Controls a Tier 1 Permanent" do you? Just making final edits if you catch this in time but you're not on AIM!!!
Alchemy should say
Alchemy X (~This costs X less for each card you remove from your hand from the game with a converted mana cost of 5 or more.)
HEY FELLAS, I would like to take a little time to express all of you my best wishes for this Christmass, May GOD feel your houses with blessings this holiday, and may all your family be able to join together for the celebration.
Merry Christmas to you all !!
BTW: Tier 1 Permanent ?? You use that wording and the WOTC will have a lot of calls made to its call center asking about it!! LOL
Yeah I had a hard time wording the cards right as I'm sure you've seen but I tried my best. For example, Tier 1 Permanent had to be worded so because according to conventional standards (as of right now) cards are only cards when they're not in play and you can't control "cards", you only own them. So yeah I'm sure there was lots of stuff being botched.
Which leads me to one other thing I've wanted to say. After this Clan Contest voting is over I'm gonna "resign" my post as clan council rep for ARD. It's too much of a headache for me to get everyone to do something that they don't necessarily want to do (which means I've been pushing too much anyway). But that's after the voting. Entries thread here:
Hey guys, this is kind of hard for me to get out so I'll clean cut it. I'm quitting magic. I've been playing for 5 years and have just gotten tired of the game. I haven't gotten any better int he past 2 years and its just starting to get frustrating. I've also become heavily involved in theatre and that takes up most of my time. I think its been at least a year if not more since I joined up with you guys and it has been a whole lot of fun. I guess another one of you gets to step up to the plate and become a council member. Anyways, its been great and thanks for all the fun times you've given me. Peace

Anyone remember me? Just stopping in to say I signed into mtgnews and had a few pms from people wanting in ARD. So I sent them messages to go here if they really wanted in. Might yeild something, but I dunno with how long time has passed.
Anyway, I'm still out of magic so I probably wont post here often........if at all. But life is good and I hope it is for all of you also.
1) Maridian
2) Rebellion
3) Vanquishment
Thru a Google search it seems that Marid means rebellious in Arabic.

Memory Regained - 6UU
Sorcery
Put all cards that were removed from the game this turn into their owner's hands.
Alchemy - 2 (Memory Regained costs 2 less to play for each card you remove from your hand from the game with a converted mana cost of 5 or more.)
Also Crimson. I like the thought of Gothwalk but I don't see how it's any different from "Creatures can't block this turn"... except that it's strictly worse. Maybe....
3BB
Creatures you control have Gothwalk and get +1/+0 for each article of black clothing you can see from your seat.
Revenge - 2 (Cuz hating goth is really every color isn't it? ;))

Alchemy - (Distorting Portal costs less to play for each card you remove from your hand from the game with a converted mana cost of 5 or more.)
"Its original intent was never quite clear.
Alchemy 2U or 2R (Swap costs 2U or 2R less to play for each card you remove from your hand from the game with a converted mana cost of 5 or more.)
Sorcery
Put all cards that were removed from the game this turn into their owner's hands.
Alchemy - 2 (Memory Regained costs less to play for each card you remove from your hand from the game with a converted mana cost of 5 or more.)
Ideas?
Maybe color specific Alchemy?
Break Wind - 3UU
Instant
Tap all creatures. Then, if you removed a Red card for this card's Alchemy deal 3 damage to each tapped creature.
Alchemy 1
Who's the Beatdown? 3RRG
Sorcery
Put a legendary copy of each creature card your opponent controls, into play under your control.
Revenge- 2RG

Swap : Changing hands doesn't seem right...What about just removing all hands from the game? (Changing Hands is a mess and no card does it, exept Shared Fatewith much wordy-ness.
Marid Rising
Backlash
Restoration
The Rogues gain power then are exterminated then somehow still manage to win in Backlash.
Prime Maridian - BGG
Legendary Creature - Human Wizard Rogue
t: Target card in a graveyard has Revenge equal to its manacost.
4/2
Kami Kazi - B
Instant
Lose 1/2 a life. Each opponent gains 1/2 a life.
Dark Revenge - B (At the beginning of each upkeep if an opponent controls a tier one card you may pay 1B.
Avi, You gonna post this stuff up soon?
Edit: Also the storyline was unnecessary but thanks for the effort!
Counter Counter - U
Instant
Counter this spell.
Revenge - UUUU (At the beginning of each upkeep if an opponent controls a tier 1 card you may pay UUUU. If you do add this card's effect to all spells played this turn)
Merry Christmas to you all !!
BTW: Tier 1 Permanent ?? You use that wording and the WOTC will have a lot of calls made to its call center asking about it!! LOL

We need a first, second, and third place vote. Also, voting is due 7 PM EST New Years Eve.
