Huh. I'd first bug you with my "specify WHICH democratic ideals" argument, but your criterion is better than some of the ones I saw at my tournament yesterday. I had to debate against this idiot who obviously had no idea what he was doing and had had his case pressed into his hands by some coach or varsity debate. It was an individual rights-protection of minorities case. I'd already debated against it with another girl who actually was good, but for this guy I just threw my arguments from the last round at him and got extremely pissed off about him dropping my ENTIRE CASE. Oh well...
Anyway, I have an iffy Negative, it's equality-natural rights. I have a pretty good Affirmative, though, its community-commitment. The last girl I debated against yesterday was really good, she found one major hole in it that I knew about and another one that I didn't know about. She made up for the crappy 3rd and 4th round.
I have my last round today, and then I'll find out how well I did. I'm pretty sure I've won at least 3 out of the 5 I did yesterday, maybe 4, so if I win today I'll have done really well.:)

band, my last football game ever. but it was good. We got yelled at [the underclassmen don't like to respect anyone], but we sounded SO GOOD. after, Kyle [who gets the homemade award of "Best Underclassman Ever" ;)] and Ninja rolled down the giant hill in front of the school a couple times, and then we went to McDonald's. Drove around for a bit, and dropped off kyle. His house is freaking HUGE. His mom's really nice, too. Hung out at Kyle's for a few minutes, had some interesting conversation. Took Ninja home, and went to bed happy.
Saturday:
Ran errands with my mom in the morning, got my hair cut/braided [two french braids], and ate lunch....Peter called while I was waiting for my mom to get her hair cut, and he goes "We should do something today, I missed you this week!". That was totally unexpected. And I can usually predict what Peter's gonna say/do. Of course, once his mom finds out who he's talking to, she yells "HI JO! I MISS YOU!", and that made me laugh. Ended up going with Peter to best buy, a bookstore, and his brother's house. back at Peter's, we played Castlevania, and caught up on lots of stuff. He was happy to see me, I could tell. that's kinna cute.
Ate dinner, and played more Castlevania. Ninja called a halfdozen times, and I made plans to hang out with him later. Evan and Remsza came over, and Evan was being rather...ah...flirtatious? Question mark because I don't entirely believe that happened. He's NEVER flirtatious with me anymore. Anyway, got myself out of Peter's basement, talked to his mom for a minute, and left. Got Ninja from his friend's, and we went back to his house. We built a fire [tossing old report cards into a fire is fun, even when they're not yours..:D], ate cake, and then we cuddled under a blanket while watching 101 dalmations. He sang along at some parts, and it was sooo cute. Ninja couldn't stop playing with my braids, he says they're adorable. :tongue2: After the movie ended, we kinda dozed off, and talked about stuff. "Wrestled" a little bit, and eventually I left to go home. I really like the kid, and I think he likes me too. I was going to say something yesterday, but I decided to let this go on a little longer, just so I can get a better idea of how he feels. Went home, and went to bed VERY happy.
Today:
Laundry, cleaning, boring stuff.
I hope this was enough relationship-stuff for you kids?

Meh. Why envy others at all, it's rarely constructive. Don't look to others to try to figure out what's missing in your own life. Blah blah platitudecakes.
It's fine to be single, people. lol
Naw, I get the envy deal, I just don't go with it.

Oh, I know.
I don't ACTUALLY envy people.
I just say I do.
Ick. None of the guys at my school seem like good boyfriends even if I was out and even if they were gay. Either they have great personalities but I value them more as friends, or they look good but have crappy personalities.
Anyway, quick question: What do people here think of the Wizards boards? I use them, and I find this board to lend itself a lot more to personal discussion and an older audience. Still, I like having professional mods and knowing that the boards won't die as long as WotC is still a working company, which it will be (hopefully!) for a very long time. The people are fine, mostly, but we get a lot of trolls and spammers over there. Maybe we attract them or something . Anyway, some people here seem to be condescending of the WotC boards, and I'm just wondering why.

I used to go there but I'm very much the casual poster so I like a more lax system. I come here cuz of this clan pretty much. If it weren't here I would just not go to message boards.
i've never had a problem with the Wizards message boards really.
@mota: I keep concentrating but no one's head has burst into flames yet.
Are you sure it works like that?
OH YEAH!
You guys should watch the movie Cowboys and Angels. I watched it last night and it was really good.

Well, maybe you've heard mtgnews being referred to as mtgnoobs? MTGNews did, and this site does, attract a lot of mediocre players because of the Rumor Mill, and the people tend to get really excited about stuff and it comes off as a bit immature and such. So, the more intelligent sites tend to look down on this site a little bit as a result. This problem is even worse for the Wizards boards (except, people don't go there because of their Rumor Mill;)), so even we can make fun of them
Anyway, apparently I got invited to AMA, which takes high school musicians over-seas for around 20 twenty days. I'd get to go see Austria (Westendorf, Salzburg, Innsbruck, and Rattenberg), Germany (Heidelberg, Rothernberg, Dinkelsbuhl, and Dachau), France (Caen, Normandy, Omaha Beach, Paris, Strasbourg, Riquewihr, and Colmar), Switzerland (Engelberg and Lucerne), and Iceland. On the one hand, I really want to do it. On the other, I really want to do a DCI band like the Cadets this summer. On the third, I really want a job

Well IMO Either Cadets or that trip would be awesome. I don't think i'd pass up the opportunity to do either. And if I had to choose between Cadets and the trip.... I dunno... I really like the Cadets but going to each of those countries would be awesome.
Stage crew's going okay, I have a minion. I don't like her, 'cause she doesn't DO anything. She sits in the corner with her friends and they make a huge distraction.
Convienently, the kid who's doing sound this year sat himself down at the lightboard and figured out how to make it do things. I was up at the stage, and I look back to see him messing with it. I was like "NEW MINION!!!!" hahaha.
Overall, the play looks good. Lighting's gonna be a bit complicated [for a play, anyway], but not a challenge.
Today in band, I had the normal "meeting" with Kyle and Ninja...Ninja and I are standing with our arms around each other, and Kyle's just giving us this look, with this goofy smirk on his face. Ninja and I glance at each other, and roll our eyes.
So, we're in our seats, and such. Booth is working with low brass, and Kyle goes "Hey, Jo. Guess what!" Not sure where he's going with this, I respond with "What, Kyle? Your pants are on sideways again?" [that's an inside joke, kinna..] He goes "No, but you and Blair [Ninja's last name] are dating now!" I turn and look at my friend Emalee, who shrugs, and I say "Says who?"
"Popular vote..." "Kyle, who would the popular vote be?" "Me, of course! Although, Ben and Lauren think you guys are cute together..." "Just 'cause we look cute together doesn't mean we're dating, Kyle...Oh, and does Ninja know about this?" "No, but he's gonna right now!" So Kyle gets up, goes and talks to Ninja, and sits back down. Ninja and I look at each other, and shrug. So the ongoing joke is that we're dating, even though we aren't.
Kyle's trying to get us to kiss, too, which can't happen for another 5 months. Stupid mono. He's like "You want to, he wants to, so DO IT ALREADY!" "Kyle, I can't." "Yeah, Kyle...unlike you, I can control my....urges to do things."
They're silly. And I'm going out to dinner with them on Friday. Haha...
In other news, Peter's still terrified I'll give him mono if I touch him....it's kinda funny, but it's getting old..and slightly annoying.
I think that's about it for me...g'night kids!

Thank you for the update, Leilani. Which reminds me...
Time for a random update from Cameron!!
For Contemporary Issues class, I had to do a presentation on gay marriage. For my presentation, I decided to start with a little ice breaker. I had 6 classmates(2 girls and 4 boys) go out into the hall. In the CD player, I put in the Bridal song--'Here Comes the Bride', I think it's called---and I had couples walk in, one pair at a time.
First, linking arms, came Stephanie and Will.
Second, also linking arms, came Teagan(a girl) and Sean.
Lastly, also linking arms, came Christopher...and Shane.
The three couples stood in front of the class, arms linked with their partner. I played the next track on the CD, "One of these things is not like the others" from Sesame Street. "Can you tell which one is not like the other by the time I finish my song?"
It was great. The class was laughing for five minutes straight. After that, I launched into my presentation. I was to remain unbiased during the speaking part of my presentation, which I did, but I was allowed to speak my mind during the debate portion. I pretty much rocked. There is one group in the back of the room...the Jesus Freaks, we call them. They are the biggest group of dogmatic teenage fundamentalists you have ever set eyes on, and they were glowering at me. It was great.
In other news, Chris and I are still doing great. My one qualm is that he is still partly closeted, mostly at work----and at home.
I will not--- will not---make the same mistake I did with Alex and get involved with his home life. He can tell his parents when he's good and ready, if ever. Until then, I suppose I can bear being introduced as his "friend". In any event, if and when he does tell his parents, they are religious, but not uber-fundamentalist-God-hates-***s type of people. So they should be fine with it, but he's still worried. I'll let it be, in any case.
In non-gay news, my friends and I have started a club, called the Derry Cancer Club. It's a non profit organization dedicated to preserving our God-given right to inhale as many carcinogens as is humanly possible. We at the Cancer Club believe that smoking is a fundamental American right, and thus should not be denied on the basis of economic misfortune.
In light of that, if any members of the club run out of cigarettes(and thus cannot pursue our rights), we solicit donations from those more fortunate. The line usually goes:
"Would you like to donate a cigarette to the Derry Cancer Club? All donations go toward fighting the cure for cancer by destroying our lungs irreparably."
If you donate a cigarette, you are entitled to carry an official membership card, which then entitles the card carrier to solicit similar donations in times of need.
This all adds up to a fancy, tongue-in-cheek way of saying: "Bum a smoke?" But somehow, it works better, because it induces fits of violent laughter or incredulous bewilderment; in either case, a cigarette is "donated".
The great thing is, it's worked fabulously. With only one slightly scared woman and a very indignant old man, almost everyone has gladly donated to our good cause

...
Tongue in cheek, yes, but still awful.
I wish I could support people killing themselves off (and therefore leaving the smarter ones to populate the earth), but I can't - your actions affect others (and the dumb people procreate faster anyway, drat it! Add more arsenic into junk foods!). And by "others" I mean "me." I have a right to be free of you people, drat it! Lets make a "smoker island" made out of tobacco leaves, put all the smokers on it and light it up! Everyone's happy!

Well, I don't necessarily agree that all smokers are stupid, as such, but it is certainly not the best of habits. Amazing social value, I've found, though.
@T2sux: I hate to say this, but as I'm something of a hypochondriac about smoking/lung related illnesses/asthma, you'll excuse me for saying that it's a shame such a good person (for you do seem to be one) went down the drain for an induced love affair with a chemical agent. And I will also hasten to add my bit about how smoking is the worst possible drug habit to have because you're simultaneously reducing the lifespan of those around you as well as yourself. Not to mention that you're contributing to a fire risk and pollution, unless you happen to carry a plastic bag around to hold your discarded cigarette butts as they smoulder for several hours. I would also like to make the remark that it's a shame you're contributing to the air pollution that makes my sister's lungs contract and makes it difficult for her to breathe, and gives me worry fits about her in the bargain. And then there's the comment that could be made about you and your club's contribution to the proliferation of the greenhouse effect, but I think I'll stop right here before someone attacks me for being (God forbid!) smoking-intolerant.
@ Erasmus: Interesting. Everyone does seem to feel compelled to troll/flame/spam our boards, and we get more off-topic threads then you can shake a stick at. Also, I've noticed that we have a crapload of weird forum jokes, which then get duplicated by newbs. I may only have been there for half a year or so, but at least I don't duplicate jokes that have been severely over-rehashed for far too long.
Also, I notice that we have a ginormous YMTC forum compared to the one here, and a lot of people dedicated to it (Myself, for instance). We do get some spam crap like the "American Heroes" block idea that came through a while ago...I had to contribute to the flame-a-thon, because the idea was so incredibly rude, racist, revisionist, and flat-out bad that it deserved to be sent from whence it came.
Speaking of such things, I was just very unpleasant to the new No Fat Chicks clan for general boorishness and idiocy. Go take a look if you wish.

Don't worry, I won't attack you. You are entitled to your opinion, and it is the correct opinion, in all honesty. Although in my defense(on one point), I put out my cigarettes on pavement, whereupon I ground them violently into the pavement, leaving nothing to smother.
But on the other points, admittedly, I have no defense. Except...well, no.
Smoking is about just the same as almost any other form of substance addiction and affects a person in one way or another, but we don't see it as often. Caffeine, alcohol, magic, porn...... all addictions affect your way way of life one way or another.
I amoke, been smoking since I have been 16. That's half my life. Yet I feel no regrets in the consequences of things. And I am a polite smoker. If someone asks me to put it out because the smoke is bothering I will.
Caffeine affects the body... too much caffeine will cause damage to the body, but yet do we see lobbyists against the soda companies/coffee producers? no. Why? They just don't see caffeine hurting a person.
People have opinions, which are fine, but if they try to push their opinions strongly onto a person, that's when it gets to be a nuissance to me. That's why I stopped going to organized religion, because the pastor told me that I was an attrocity to god for being a gay man. Do I stop religion? No. Have I rethought the ideas of religion as a whole? yes. Bah ranting and going no where on this hehe.
So I go up to Chicago for the visit to my location to live at soon.... How much do apartments run for the people that live in that area. Looking for a 2 or 3 bedroom apartment. Also how much does a house usually run up there? I just need to knopw these things before I fly up there. (BTW I am deathly afraid of flying so this will be a phun trip lol). I am getting buzzed before I get on that plane, that's for sure. I just wish Jayce could fly with me on this trip but he has this term still going... but he's psyched about transferring schools later on to come stay with me. He's making sure I have everything I need for the trip. He's just a big ole sweetheart.
until later, CIAO

Let's see... yes... yes... Crop the hair add highlights get some contacts in there. Yup.
Smoking... Hmm.... Well.... I'm against it. I don't like it around me cuz it makes me stink and makes my room stink and etc. I can't stand to breath it and for the most part the people who smoke don't give a **** if I don't want to be around the smoke. That's just as inconsiderate as me eating my soup with your grandmother as the spoon. And I promised you I'd quit that ... eventually...
I dunno. I guess I have come to accept that there are people that smoke and that there are people that don't. I know it's not what I need so I don't do it but I try not to badger people about it as much as I use to.
However, I do reserve the right to comment about your club as I see fit. I think random outbursts of cancer jokes are necessary no?
@T2sux: Regardless, there is usually still a spark that lingers even after people think that they have smothered it. And you're contributing to the enormous and I mean ENORMOUS amount of cigarette-related trash. However, you seem to have missed my main point, which is that you will die early, even if you stop at some point, of which the likelihood drops for every year that you smoke. Peter Jennings is a fabulous example of exactly how much damage smoking does even if you stop. I cannot tell you how much it hurts and bewilders me every time go past the AA meeting and see all of them smoking. I can't understand why the people who run these places allow people to go from one horribly destructive habit to another one that more affects humanity negatively as a whole. Why do you care so little for your own life? I can't understand it, and I desperately want to convince you otherwise.
@Elheirst : Everything I said to T2sux, only more so because you're so young. When I was in England, we were in a little cafe eating lunch. One elderly woman near us was smoking, which was causing me to be rather distracted. The horrible thing was a middle-aged man who came in and began to smoke. He started coughing uncontrollably from the smoke, but when it subsided he picked up his cigarette and immediately began smoking again. You are even more vulnerable to nicotine addicition because you began when you were young; I don't know how old you are now, but you can preserve what's left of your health be stopping now. In regards to your remarks about caffeine, I wholly agree, but the reason people don't campaign against nicotine is that it hasn't killed millions, if not billions, and it made billions more severely ill and brought fear and sorrow to their families and their friends. I can understand your dislike of other people trying to force their opinions on you, but my concern is different than that of your priest. I am thinking of your death, which will come, and far sooner than it should, if you continue. You will die choking for breath, in terror. Please excuse my melodrama, but I will not allow myself to do anything but my best to prevent another needlessly early death. And so, I ask you, listen to me.

I didn't miss the point, I just don't have a viable counter-argument for it. I fully understand that my habit is destructive, and that it will lead to an earlier death. But I continue to do it anyway, because I'm not sure I'd be able to keep going without some sort of crutch, and my particular crutches are chain-smoking and forum-hopping. Is it bad for my future? Sure. But it helps me cope with the present.

Heh I am not that young I am 32 so I have been smoking about 16 years... but I don't look it... (if you want to see an updated pic goto my profile on here. Smoking after 16 years is not really that easy to quit. I don't smoke in my house or around children/pregnant people and I make sure people are confortable around me when I do. I smoke the worse kind, which are menthols. But it relieves alot of stress at work or at home and helps me socialize better with other people for some reason. My mom and dad smoked and 6 of my brothers/sisters smoke as well (I am #6 of 8 all from the same family). I even know the reprecussions of it because it was the main reason why my dad died. I have tried to quit many times, but when things get rough for me it is basically the only gateway to get away from the problems. I am not a big drinker, maybe I will spend 60$ total per month on drinks at the clubs and that comes to about 7-10 drinks at the club. And Jayce smokes as well so he wouldn't be helping if I was to quit as well. But, unlike some people who smoke heavily I may go through a pack in 2-3 days, so I am smoking but not very much. The only time I smoke alot is either when I have alot of downtime or when at the anime cons (for some reason the after parties and seeing people that I haven't seen in like 3 or 4 months makes me smoke)
BTW gotta show pics of AFO.... I was pulled into doing a cosplay and dressed us a Eiri Yuki from Gravitation... this was months ago but anyways

No, they don't lobby against it be cause the people who WOULD lobby against it realized they're addicted to it. Even if they don't admit it. So they'd be lobbying to ban something they're addicted to. :tongue2:
So, basically everyone I know [and everyone Alex knows too] thinks Alex and I are dating. Wrong! We're not. [[gasp]] Well, not yet anyway. I think it'll happen eventually, actually. We agreed that if I wasn't contagious [with the mono], we would've kissed by now. Couple of our friends in band were picking on him, so I got kind of defensive [without realizing it until later], and put myself between them and him. They're like "Aw, how cute, she's protecting him! They're not dating, and she's protecting him!"
Although, I'd think you'd like to be protected when people are trying to twist your nipples....but perhaps that's just me. [[shrugs]]

@Elheirst: The topic at hand is cigarettes, not caffeine, though your attempt at changing the topic is admirable. Caffeine, while not terribly good for you in high doses, won't lead to your early death in moderate amounts.... unlike tobacco, which will. I mean, I even have Walgreens headache medicine with 25mg of caffeine in it. ::shrugs::
@Tesh: we need more of you people around! And yeah, it's terrible how much cig trash there is lying around.
But anyway, there is little more to say. I have terrible experiences with smokers and smoking - both my parents smoke, even though cancer runs in the family *and* my mother has already had cancer once. They also smoked around me as a child, which aggrivated my childhood asthma. I cannot stand to even walk near or around smokers - smoke makes me choke and my lungs spasm. It's a disgusting habit.
That, wearing on your breast,
You, unsuspecting, wear me too -
And angels know the rest.
this weekend has been awesome.
Friday:
band, my last football game ever. but it was good.
I know it seems that I don't care,
but something in me does I swear.

We can envy them together, Mota.
It's fine to be single, people. lol
Naw, I get the envy deal, I just don't go with it.
Archatmos
Excellion
Fracture: Israfiel (WBR), Wujal (URG), Valedon (GUB), Amduat (BGW), Paladris (RWU)
Collision (Set Two of the Fracture Block)
Quest for the Forsaken (Set Two of the Excellion Block)
Katingal: Plane of Chains
Oh, I know.
I don't ACTUALLY envy people.
I just say I do.
That, wearing on your breast,
You, unsuspecting, wear me too -
And angels know the rest.
I know it seems that I don't care,
but something in me does I swear.

And that's all the news that's fit to print.
In any event, smoking rocks.
So there.
That, wearing on your breast,
You, unsuspecting, wear me too -
And angels know the rest.
Nope.
So there.
But on the other points, admittedly, I have no defense. Except...well, no. Pwned
Picture of me!

That, wearing on your breast,
You, unsuspecting, wear me too -

(So THERE, Micah Oh, of course. The more the merrier.
Eh, I have nothing. I'd say something about debate, but that wouldn't be topical.
When I have something meaningful to say, I'll tell you guys. Just wait for the awesomexors update of Nick... coming... eventually... When he gets a freaking computer.
Help has come in the form of a bit of basic algebra. I feel that it'll shed some light on your problem here.
Basically:
S + T = W
...S in this case stands for 'spam' and the T stands for 'light trolling'. And the W? That stands for 'Warning'. I love math. -- {mikeyG}

[[shrugs]]
Out!
