I think we pretty much agree, except for land destruction. I want to play my Riftstone Portal G/W Armageddon deck. ::sniffles::
Riftstone Portal G/W Armageddon is fine. Redundant Sinkholes, Stone Rains, Pillages, and Icequakes, speed by Dark Ritual and Desperate Ritual, topped off with Duress and Hymn to Tourach, served cold with Guiltfeeder is not.

I agree. I'd throw in the rest of the restricted list and Mishra's Workshop. And yes, Chalice of the Void would count toward your countermagic limit. As would Bind as narrow as it is.
Help has come in the form of a bit of basic algebra. I feel that it'll shed some light on your problem here.
Basically:
S + T = W
...S in this case stands for 'spam' and the T stands for 'light trolling'. And the W? That stands for 'Warning'. I love math. -- {mikeyG}
Planning on playing some vintage, eh? I really like proxy vintage, but unfortunately I'm not rich so proxy vintage is all that I'm gonna get. It's a fun format espically with those crazy turn one win games.

Well, we actually plan on playing some casual. The problem is, some people's "casual" is much less... casual... than others. We're just making sure we understand what we've decided is "causual." Infinite combos and third-turn win decks are *not* casual.
Right now it's looking like we're taking the Legacy banned list, adding some banned cards and some rules, and adding a bit of "don't be stupid" to the mix.
@xepel - I will try to PM you soon about a time and date.
@pli2100hours - I'd play Vintage against you if you want. I Vintage. Vintage for me is like this: 8^) :tongue2:
The thought of playing combo in Vintage makes me all pink and giggly inside. I love just about everything about Vintage, even the turn one and two wins.

Vintage makes me die a little inside. I'm all about playing a game, not winning turn one. Yes, I'm sure I'd have a lot of fun winning turn one once, twice, maybe three times... but there is no way I can possibly imagine a whole dedicated format to it. Vintage is all about breaking cards, having Wizards restrict those cards, and then having the whole game rely on luck. People who play Vintage (in "real life") usually have lots of disposable income (almost always children of rich families, in my experience) or havea been playing the game since it's creation. It also means that they probably have a lot of skill in the game - who wouldn't spend time becoming skilled after spending boatloads of money on a few cards? This ends up putting Vintage games into a pile of luck. First who wins the coin toss and then who draws their combo - since most game-winning cards (Yawg Win) are restricted (should be banned, but this is a ban-less format except for ante cards), whoever draws them first wins. I hate it. People who play online may not be rich (you've probably noticed my jealousy), but they still make a bee-line towards the broken combo wins.
Eh. My bias is showing. I like the big card pool, I don't like that the card pool is really only about 60 cards (the best and the broken) - unless you want to lose, of course.
Oh! Almost forgot. I just wanted to say that I went to the local 9th Release tournament, and ended up first out of 37 people. (Well, tied for first - me and the other guy intentionally drew.) Fun fun!

Good job on your tournament success. It's fun to place high in a tournament every now and then.
I'm so out of Magic I need to catch up on the new cards. I am unfamiliar with Kamigawa Block and 9th Edition. As long as 9th has Wrath of God, I don't care. 8^)

Yep. I'm happy for two reasons - I placed high and I made some tourney-level players angry (for placing so high) - apparently three of the top four (everone but me) knew each other, and I had knocked out two of their friends on my way to the top. Wheeeeeeee.

Hypnotic Specter came back as a rare - and it led me to a few of my wins. ::grins:: (It was the only good rare I came out with, the rest were all terrible, like "Mana Clash.")
Awww. Fine fine. You're turning your back on the most balanced and fun format in magic though.
Balanced??
Fun??
Vintage has a card pool of perhaps 60-70 cards - the best and the broken. Maybe a bit more if you have to include all the duals and fetchlands. It's not balanced, it's just overpowered. There are thousands of cards you just *can't* use if you want to win - you either conform or you die.
Also, a game win on turn one or two is not fun. I don't like sitting there watching you combo out for ten minutes, and I doubt you would like to sit there and watch *me* combo out. Interactivity is limited to a Mind Twist for your hand or a FoW or Mana Drain so you can keep comboing out.
Those two things, as well as the insane monentary requirements (I'm not rich, or "well off", or anythign like that, and neither are my parents) will keep me from ever trying out Vintage.

I completely agree with all the above. There is no "game" in Vintage, it's whoever gets the first turn wins. Not only that but the money you have to put into it is ridiculous, even if there are 10 proxy tournaments, you have to spend over $100 in most cases just to get the non-proxy cards all together, and then you probably still have to spend $80 on a playset of Force of Will or something.

And you've acquired this information through countless hours playing Vintage? Oh, well then I'll shut up. Because it's obvious that you have the experience in the format to tell me that it's not fun or balanced at all, and that the cardpool is incredibly restricted. I humble myself before you.

There are currently about two decks in the Vintage environment that can win on turn 1. The most notable is 2-3 land Belcher which is so RIDICULOUSLY inconsistent it never sees play.

Okay. This *should* be the last drama post. Promise.
Well, through extensive(and wierd) discussion with one of the gaymers on AIM, I decided on Friday to, temporarily(oh God I hope so...) break up with Alex.
You see, things have been getting *really* bad at his house...the other day, his father called him a ***got, to his face.
So Alex calls me, in tears, saying that he can't take it much longer. That he either has to move out, or work something out with his parents.
Moving in with me is not an option, period. We've been dating for 2 months, I'm not going to commit myself to a permanent relationship. Not now. Not yet.
This didn't go over well. I guess I can understand that...he is going through hell right now. But I figure that if we aren't together, it will be easier to rectify things with his parents.
So I told him, on Friday, that I'm not going to allow him to sever relations with his parents over me. I told him that there are things more important than a two month relationship.
He was mad. So mad, in fact, that he knocked my laptop(which was sitting on the table) to the ground, breaking it. Which is why I haven't been on since then
So, for now, we're broken up. I've left the offer up that if things become absolutely unbearable, he can move in with me, but not as a couple, simply as friends.
I hope to God that we don't split up for good...he's the first good thing to happen to me for a long time....a very long time.
I agree with Bel, his parents probably aren't going to ever accept him for who he is and it will probably always be like that between him and his parents now. Breaking up with him was probably the worst thing you could have done right now to him. He was already having problems before, I can't imagine how he feels now.
I spent like 2 years playing all kinda formats on Apprentice without owning a single real Magic card. Vintage was the most fun format, actually (if you have the cash). Now I just create fantasy card sets and browse forums for fun...
If I actually played Magic I would become a judge =] I used to sit on EFNet talking to RHorvik and all the other losers in the judge room.
It's kinda fun reading through the Gaymers thread. I'm a gay 17 years old guy but never had any kind of girl/boyfriend whatsoever, so I don't relate much to your drama.

In that case, it's fried. When the 3/6 letter F-bomb drops, that's it. I hope for your sake that the breakup isn't permanent, but I wouldn't be surprised if you just saw the end. If I'm right, I'm dreadfully sorry. But I hope I'm wrong.
