I don't follow sports, but GOD DAMN Beyonce's half-time was incredible.
I went 2-2 in Legacy again with Bant. I think it definitely needs Geist of Saint Traft, Vendilion Clique, real dual lands and NO Progenitus to be really good. I guess that covers all my Magic spending for the next year or so:
I played Bant in a Modern GP Trial on Sunday and went 2-2 as well. It was a good deck but obviously not as consistent as the Legacy version. I want to build and test a good Bant or 4 Colour brew for the Modern GP in my city in October. I might even just say "**** it" and build BUG Delver because it'd probably be mind bogglingly good, even in Modern. Deathrite Shaman is NUTS!!!
I am thinking of buying a box of Gatecrash, Dux. How were your pulls?
Football, I don't give a damn..
But JJ (awesome to see you in here ) if the Ravens win the Super bowl - I will post an extremely embarrassing photo of myself.

Whew...back from my international society of range management conference. Gotta say, loads of seminars and information and networking...good stuff but I'm glad its done.
Spent a total of 28 hours driving to and from the seminar with a cute girl. It did cross my mind that she might be dating material, but as we got to know each other I think I'm good with being just friends. Nothing against her, but I didn't feel like there was much there, plus about half the trip was silence. I don't know if she'd care to even be "just friends". I feel that I may have come off irritating to her...well mostly cause I sort of irritated myself. In some of the long bouts of silence I thought it'd be good to come up with some sort of conversation...but I only came up with lame fluff that usually reflected somewhat poorly on myself. Meh, oops there. Also I guess I was a touch stinky...didn't pack enough clothes and the third day wearing the same shirt'll do that I guess, but at least she told me. :-p
On the way there we shared a room, two queen size beds, but on the way back she opted to have two separate rooms. Not sure if that means anything, but I suspect I may have offended her somehow. She didn't really give me that sort of vibe...beyond a feeling that she was irritated with me and eager to drop me off when we got back...so I don't know.
I did tell the story of how my 19 hour hike where I was foolishly unprepared and ended up hiking by starlight. I've always considered that a fun story, but she seemed to feel that it was a story of failure and unpreparedness and something she'd never do. I found myself backpeddling trying to defend myself and my actions...which resulted in a bit of rambling until she emphatically told me to drop it cause the conversation ended five minutes prior. Took about half an hour before I calmed down from embarrassment. I suppose she's right though. I have heard stories from other people that they intended to represent preference and survival but really conveyed stupidity and unpreparedness. I just never realized some of my stories were the same. Oops.
Cheers,

And I guess that I'm a lucky one for the truth of what I know. For my heart had not denied me and I have somewhere to go. I shall never be a prisoner of steel and glass and stone. If I leave, I will return again to my Rocky Mountain home.
I don't know if I'd call that girl an absolute jerk....though perhaps a jerk in those few awkward moments I highlighted. She told me I stunk mainly because previously I had told her I had no sense of smell and would appreciate a heads up if I did stink. Unfortunately for her I ran out of Deodorant and I could have sworn that shirt had another day's use left out of it. Misjudged that I guess...I'm sure I had a cleaner dirty shirt somewhere...bah, you people and your sense of smell.
You know, I've always considered pants to have a much longer use than shirts. Replace the shirt at least every day if you could...every other day is fine. But Pant's...you're fine wearing the same one for a few days and its not a problem. Is that a correct assessment or do pants get all stinky fast too. Assuming no overly athletic activity occurs.....and assuming my habit of wiping my knife off on my jeans after I've stirred my coffee doesn't do anything either...
Is Delver a money card now?
@Luck. Congrats on the job. Always good to get some money pouring in. Seems to be harder and harder in this day and age. And good luck with the university. Seems you had a high score and are a shoein for something good.
Turned out everybody at the society of Range Management meeting got sick. Well most everybody...epidemics and whatever ran rampant. Enough so that I got an Email from the Oklahoma State Department of Health Acute Disease Service asking me for information on diseases. Lucky for me I somehow dodged that one....even with the girl I drove with being sick for the first 14 hours.
I'm going to be really during the next two months. I've got a FFA competition to help run tomorrow, an Envirothon educational thing this friday, and a middle school science fair to present at the next week. Then I have to prepare for two more workshops before I head to the wildfire academy to get my Fire Fighter Type 1 and chainsaw crew certification. Busy busy.

Shirts are an everyday change. Pants can go as long as a week, so long as you're not hiking or sweating profusely in them. Once they get stained or develop knee dents....it's time to wash and change them.
It sounds like she was interested at first, but then grew tired of your odor there Daggs....showers and deodorant are necessary evils in the singles game. CLothes are secondary....but a clean shirt is always smart.

Nice to know I've been playing it right. I figured I had the gist of it right anyhow as it has been discussed occasionally here and there...and as an Anosmic I actually tend to be slightly more paranoid of all this since I can't tell otherwise. It's the reason I had one of those airwicks in my room for a while despite not knowing if it works. Always good to double check though since a lot of smells that should be basic are just unknown or forgotten to me.
That's not saying I didn't mess up smellwise on the trip. I didn't anticipate running out of deodorant...not like that happens often...and I misjudged the number of shirts I should have brought. Fresh underware and socks daily though...got that right.
It's much easier in the field when everyone is dealing with the same conditions and nobody cares. By the end of two weeks with no shower everyone is pretty ripe, but nobody complains about smells as we sit around the campfire drinking beers.
As for the girl liking me...I kind of doubt it. I'm not very perceptive, but after the 14 hour drive up there I didn't notice anything. The trip back was somewhat irritating...but to be fair that tends to happen when you spend a lot of time with someone to that point that there's nothing new to talk about. Could have just driven in silence I suppose.
Anyway, I partnered with her again today to do an FFA competition. She was as chearful as always and I didn't pick up anything positive or negative.
I'll be working with her again this Saturday. I don't really anticipate anything beyond professional collaboration. I'm thinking if I am interested in looking for a relationship I should start being somewhat social, try to find local clubs, or join one of them online dating sites and hope the gal I'm talking to isn't 72 years old or a dude.

I miss my brother's K'pimsta & Papa JJ.
I’m all about forgiving & forgetting. It’s the bigger man’s way. Holding grudges only taxes the beholder.
..That's all I have to say about that.
kpaca, if you're browsing, I am not grudging & the bridge is no-toll. You have as much right to post in here as any of us. Last year was a bad scene, & I apologize for my part in it.
Daggs, I just blazed through a book called Blue Remembered Earth, & the main male character in it was firmly cemented in my brain as looking & sounding like you. It's an amazing bit of science fiction, check it out (& maybe have a laugh imaging yourself as an African range biologist tending a herd of elephants).
To also chime in on this situation, I am too welcome to kpaca coming back as well. Always struck me as a cool dude, just disagreed with some things he did, but that aside, he's a good poster and a good member of the forum, it would be great having him as a member of the Called again.
It's actually really good to see that everyone is almost back together, the Called is really strong again. It's great.
@Daggs: Option 1 sounds the best as far as places that I would want to live in. Seems like a good neighborhood and all that, which is pretty important.
Lately I've been watching more shows on Netflix. Finished Breaking Bad, and Misfits so far, and I'm working on Dexter. Honestly, this is the Golden Age for television. Never before has there been so much quality TV. The Walking Dead, A Game of Thrones, Dexter, Breaking Bad, Mad Men, American Horror Story, etc. etc. Good stuff.
I have been pretty sick the past few days, have to miss three days of work. I decided to risk it and headed to play Legacy tonight, and did pretty well, 3 wins and a draw to come 3rd out of 30. Bant Stoneblade is my new favourite deck! I got $20 store credit for my trouble which was pretty great too.
Other than that, all I have been doing is coughing and sleeping. Hope y'all are well.
CharD - Being sick is dooope!!! It's all the rage here in the States right now!
L_N - I've been a series junkie for years now!
My first & still favorite was Six Feet Under! Breaking Bad is likely my 2nd favorite, idk, depends on how it ends.. The fifth and final season has aired 8 episodes already, the last 8 will air this summer sometime. I just picked up Game of Thrones season 2 Bluray Tuesday! I don't usually watch shows as they air. I often wait until the season comes out on bluray to watch it; unless it is something like Breaking Bad, The Walking Dead, The Office or Parks and Recreation that I want NOW - Then I'll DL it on the PS3 Network.
Feeling overwhelmed with even getting an idea where to begin with deck-brewing wise... Standard is just too wide open ATM!

Throw in a Blasphemous Act. Don't play it if the opponent has a Reckoner in play.
I was feeling more mild/control'ish. I had no idea what my meta would be.
..Turns out, it was a lot of the same.
I wasn't gonna walk in there with infinite-life combos, Blasphemous Act & other Reckoner abuse tacts, like some netdecking, soggy pants; who copys a 'Pro's' Deck & thinks they've accomplished something.
Plus Blasphemous Act would have been too expensive of a CMC b/c no one ever got more than 4-5 creatures on the board before I bounced one or all with an Overloaded Cyclonic Rift or Mizzium Mortars.
One game went soooo long my oppo milled me with a late game Mind Grind where = !!
There are many fun things to fingure out in MtG land right now; Standard as well as Modern - good times!!
I went 1-2-1 in Legacy tonight with my Bant Stoneblade, it was pretty disappointing but I had some weird matchups and awkward games with too little/too much mana to get going.
My passport arrived today! Pretty exciting, I am booking my flights to Europe either this week or next depending on how long it takes for my leave application to process at work. I realized I am going to be able to attend the amazing Bazaar of Moxen event (hopefully) and that has made me SUPER excited. It looks like my trip will be:
3 Days in Stockholm
Travel to Geneva and get a Train to Annecy for Bazaar of Moxen
Back to Stockholm, then on to Gothenburg
A weekend in London
A week in Stockholm
That's great news Charlie. You should come and spend some time in Portugal. It's a beautiful country and a bit warmer than all those places you mentioned. Plus, you'd get to meet me
I'll try, but I like the cold! I'm on a pretty tight schedule for the trip but hopefully I'll have some extra time. I need your help picking a deck for the event, at the moment I'm thinking either Bant Stoneblade or UG Enchantress.
I find it humorous that Luck Norris' sig still says "Shortest Member of the Called"
I have no idea how long it's been since I've posted, and I'm not going to bother going back to check, so here's the cliff notes version of what's been up:
Aunt died a couple weeks (months?) ago. Couldn't force myself to cry. She battled brain cancer for two years before finally throwing in the towel.
Met my long-lost brother from New York. I think I had said this before, but it still feels new.
I felt like I was turning into Alex+ with this one girl, so I swore off of them completely until I could get my **** together.
Struggling with my programming classes, but they're still fun as ****.
I take a class called Ethical Hacking next term. To say I'm eager for that class would be an understatement.
I fell in love with Far Cry 3 and the Mass Effect Trilogy.
I am now eagerly awaiting God of War: Ascension and The Last of Us.
I find out on the 28 whether or not I get a Little League team again this year.
We took second place in the tournament last year with only eight people on the field for the entire tournament.
I likely won't join the Magical talk, since I've only ever played very casual, and have not played for quite a while.
I still have not met anyone with a superfluous nipple.
I think that's everything. I likely forgot some stuff, but c'est la vie.
RAVENS!
I went 2-2 in Legacy again with Bant. I think it definitely needs Geist of Saint Traft, Vendilion Clique, real dual lands and NO Progenitus to be really good. I guess that covers all my Magic spending for the next year or so:
2 Savannah
2 Tropical Island
4 Geist of Saint Traft
2 Vendilion Clique
2 Misty Rainforest
4 Natural Order
1 Progenitus

Haven't played magic in a while, besides a few EDH games here or there. Haven't even bough any Gatecrash yet, and that just isn't like me.
Applied to a few Universities, and managed to secure an 87% average. Hopefully they accept me, I'm dying to live on my own.
Got a new job working at a grocery store, I stock the shelves. Hours are good, money is decent, I can't really complain.

I think wanna go with something BGx next.

I can't wait!
I'll try, but I like the cold! I'm on a pretty tight schedule for the trip but hopefully I'll have some extra time. I need your help picking a deck for the event, at the moment I'm thinking either Bant Stoneblade or UG Enchantress.
I have no idea how long it's been since I've posted, and I'm not going to bother going back to check, so here's the cliff notes version of what's been up:
I think that's everything. I likely forgot some stuff, but c'est la vie.
