Talk about mis-planeswalking. Lost course shortly after forum migration (sudden super-stressful killer semester out of nowhere!) and got stuck in some weird place where people don't get the difference between planeswalker and renegade psyker. Hint: I'm using lands to fuel my spells, not some weird demon-infested nightmare dimension. Although, disposing of some unwanted attention in said demon-infested nightmare dimension does have its charm. You didn't read that.
Also, I suck at Dragons of Tarkir limited. After this beautiful 5-colour-fun-times-wtf-deck format that was KTK, I'm in this world of aggro. Yuck!
Someone *****ed me out for T2'ing a Marit Lage (His partner imprinted a Cyclonic Rift on a Chrome Mox and I drew Dark Depths ) and then decided that it was fair to call Iona on Black when I was land flooded. Im fine with Iona as its something I expect when playing mono-colored, but Jeez man, lay off the salt.
Ok, apparently, I don't suck that badly at DTK limited.
First, I make it into top 8 of our local Limited GPT going to time in my last match, topdecking a Sheltered Aerie in the third extra turn, giving me the double red I require to wipe my opponent's board with my splashed (!) Volcanic Vision, recurring Will of the Naga and swinging for lethal in the fifth extra turn thanks to the tap spell.
Then, I somehow manage to draft a super spicy B/G deck with Thunderbreak Regent, Pitiless Horde and all the delicious removal spells.
Now, I got two byes for GP Paris. Fun times!
Since I'm very unfamiliar with this crowd, can I ask what are your stances on competitive vs casual commander? I know it's a very polarizing topic but I'm just curious.
As for me, I have absolutely loved playing in a competitive EDH meta. I also have a lot of friends that like to just play for fun and get annoyed with too competitive decks, so I keep a "sideboard" of sorts that I can switch things out depending on who I play with. This is something my various play groups talk about (mostly talking ***** about the other party and how casual or serious they are). Trying to mix the two ideologies is absolutely hilarious though, it always turns into a crap show.
Edit: I play Lyzolda and usually take out the tutors when playing more casual.
Competitive multiplayer FFA does not exist. A format whose ban list does not at all consider competitive players can not exist. As such, competitive traditional EDH does not exist beyond people wanting to play it. You cannot have statistics or formal tournaments based on a format that is collusion incarnate. Now of course you'll have the ignorant or the liars who claim to be able to do such a thing. But without data, there is no competition. There is only calvinball.
If you want competitive EDH play Duel Commander. It is tuned and balanced around a tournament based competitive structure.
Games defined by politics detract from the nature of a competitive sport/game. It's competitive in that there may be a prize, but when skill is denied for collusion you lose all grounds for calling your game truly competitive. Please, show me all the statistics about traditional EDH tournaments. How about your unified prize/tournament structure. Your balanced and well tested ban lists that are widely accepted to promote the highest level of gameplay. Duel Commander has these things, traditional EDH doesn't.
It's not that "I see only collusion" it's that no aspect of the format (beyond being a game) is balanced or designed for competitive play. So fine, it's competitive in the same way Chinese Checkers is.
Don't confuse your playgroups ability to enjoy a spikey metagame with a competitive one. I used to think that way until I played a format actually designed for competitive play.
Jivan: Have I got the funny thing for you. I T2 Marit Lage and swing (god hand, drew Depths T2 and my opponent exiled the only bounce spell I know he runs, to put under chrome mox). Other friend complains my decks are too competitive. He then proceeds to lock me out of games with Iona. Im fine with Iona, but I smell a lot of hypocracy with him complaining about me being to competitive when he does similar things.
So im building Esper ANT and only using it when he is at the table and only to kill him. Petty? Perhaps. Teach him that I can go much, much, much deeper down that rabbit hole, but I choose to have fun? Yes.

Many EDH players are whiny hypocrites. It's a real shame.
I think it's obvious when I say "competitive" I don't mean "game between two people" as then ALL magic can be seen as such. I mean tournament or official competition viable which I think is a very fair distinction.
Its the fact that out of the 3 other players, he was the one with decks closest to a higher power-level and yet he is the one getting his panties in a twist. The other 2 players were like, "Eh, it took 3 minutes. Shuffle up and play again."

Except for those who understand how the format plays. Its not half EDH or Duel Commander. Its budget legacy. Those of us who have older collections and newer legacy viables (I.e. commander deck cards like Toxic Deluge), have s distinct upper hand. My lgs ran Tony Leaders last month fir two SCG nights. I came in fourth the first week (solely with an inability to deal with noncreature permanents), then a handy first the second time (solely due to adding a boomerang). I ran UB Sygg. Most commonly ran as mill. I ran. Nephalia Drownyard as an alternative wincon to Inkmoths(as well as Thespian's Stage and Vesuva) and Delver/True-Name + Swords. Plus answers and sweepers. Also, being a 50 deck, you can build it like a Limited deck with an overloaded cube pool. Sygg plus a sword of fire and ice is usually draw one after upkeep, one after combat damage, one at the end step. D-Top and Scroll Rack made Delver almost as lethal as TNN. Its a lot of fun if you look at it like legacy. I liked it, with Ezuri legal it makes legacy elves not only viable, but equally as lethal. Its a consistent turn 4-5 win after dealing with disruption. I meant to post the story last week, even saved it in a notepad, but my phone kept screwing up tight after I top decked Lim-Dûl's Vault. I'll post later.
Mostly unrelated: Did any of you nath a Cunning Wish from my on SCG today? I got a in stock notification, went to the site, and the only one that came in was gone before I could check out.

Oh, and Tera, welcome back to the library! We've missed you. Awesome job on the GP Paris byes, you gonna go to France?!? If you can, you should! My own limited play has skyrocketed from all the recaps and lessons I've asked you for. You're the best drafter I've ever even spoken to!

Legacy doesn't have arbitrary casting cost restrictions. Relating Tiny Leaders to Legacy at all is entirely dishonest. It's a (poorly designed/balanced) EDH variant and nothing more.
So, how does Tiny Leaders factor in, in regards to the current conversation?
People in my area went crazy about it first, because they took it for a new beginner-friendly format for people that don't have a proper EDH card pool. Which it isn't at all. I somehow never caught on to it. Why play a Legacy spinoff gone bad when I can play actual Legacy that doesn't screw Storm over?
Tera, I'm months away from finishing my legacy deck, and a lot of the regulars at my lgs are much younger (late teens, early 20s) , so actual legacy is about impossible. Also, while there's no Tendrils storm, and grapeshot being banned, there's Brain Freeze. It actually works, too.

I honestly dont mind Dual Commander, but thats because everyone who plays in my area has no qualms about the casual/competitive split. Its all cutthroat. I dont play, but if people want to play it, I dont mind them doing so.

Played it, hate it. If I want competitive singleton that actually resembles legacy I'll play Duel. If I want casual I'll play EDH. I won't be playing hyper-restricted offshoots.
