Looks very nice! What's the meta like? I think you could afford to lose 1 Muddle the Mixture and possibly a Thirst for Knowledge. Diabolic Edict would likely be better replaced with Echoing Truth, and some 1 CMC draw would probably help with the very early game.
for the Finks! I've only got one, but I'll likely only ever use it in EDH anyway.
You guys.
I'd definitely like to be an admin eventually, but I don't think I'm the most deserving mod for the position next time an opening comes up.
The edict was for hexproof and the muddle the mixtures tend to put their weight almost every time. The Thirst could have been replaced I agree. I did want more bounce though, it would have helped.
This must happen! E.C. just doesn't have the... je ne sais qoi... that etched chester does. It seems less personal.
Let's add to the excitement . . . I'm in the process of selling all of my MTG cards. I have no functional decks at this time. I haven't played in six months, and I completely ignored Return to Ravnica.
EDIT: Had no idea Magic 2014 came out. Garruk has another card? Who knew?

I know the general hopelessness that can occur with this game. It has been creeping up on me. I just got my friends I play with once or twice a month into commander though. That keeps it interesting. I also found a couple of kids in my area that found out I knew MTG and they want to learn. I don't get the same enjoyment that I used to from this game, but I try because it is and always has been a big part of my life. Not to mention all the collections I have sold only to come back.
TL;DR: Keep a couple of fun decks.. You may want back in at some point. Trust me on this.
I can agree to that, I keep a certain deck out of sentimental value~ish alone.
I don't actually care for the deck. But I've spent so much time and mnoey on it that I don't want to get rid of it. It's also my only monowhite deck in like 50 decks I've had.
As a related aside - I think the experience changes a huge amount for us casual players when we discover how to build good decks and all of a sudden a lot of the cool factor of playing with massive dragons or whatever disappears and we focus too much on building a good deck. Fortunately I still have my dragon deck, so I get to somewhat relive that feeling of awe that I had when I first started playing.
It's like you are inside my head! This is exactly how I feel! I am nodding so hard in agreement, I am now worried I may cause you injury in there.
I need to find other decks that play well and are fun to play. Thopter of the Meek control deck was a great one. I need to find similar ones. They can't fold to agro, control, or combo!
Ooooooh I love Erebos! He will find a home in every edh deck I make with black. (Which will probably be every one. I love black!)
I see many cards I already want. This is the set I would love to buy a box. Too bad I am dead broke.
He's easily my favorite card in the set (and that's saying something, because this is looking like my favorite set since the original Ravnica :D).
What are your favorite cards in general? I've felt like that with the last two blocks, they just bore me.
Muddle the mixture is one
I cant think of a favorite card though. I like muddle the mixture. Life from the loam, academy ruins, just good johnny spike cards i guess. I can much more easily say cards i find interesting. Psychic vortex, Manabond, gifts ungiven, past in flames.
I don't know if I've told you guys about something my friends and I do so I'm just going to anyways. We call it the $5 deck challenge.
So basically the goal is to build a 40-60 card deck where the overall price cannot exceed $5(US) based on the lowest card price you can find online. That said, if you already own the cards or want to order all cards from the same place to lower shipping costs, then you still use the lowest online price you can find. From here we all decide on a wager based on how many people we have participating. In the first few years of doing it, it was just 3 of us so the loser bought the winner's deck and the middle guy just kept his $5. Last year we had 11 people joined in so we each put in $10 and top 3 divided the money. Although $5 isn't much at all, you can make some seriously cool things for that price and it's such a fun social event for all of us to catch up from our high school days.
We all plan out one night where we can all make it just have a round robin tournament, drink a ton, and have a great time with very little monetary investment. I've seen some extremely creative things done and also some very bad decks made. One year, I made a Liquimetal Coating deck and just ran train. My opponents had made Illusions(tap Liqui=kill spell), Myrs(oh my whole decks artifact destruction), a silly artifact/proliferate deck(same deal), and a Cleric deck(really slow to set up). My favorite deck so far has been Thaumatog/Steppe Lynx/Grazing Gladeheart/Emeria Angel + Planar Birth. I won this summer with this deck and took home $60 out of $110. Out of the past 5 years we've done this, I've won 3 times NBD I'm awesome and I know it.
But seriously, if you guys have friends who like to kick back and play some casual I highly suggest trying this out. Or hell even do it on Cockatrice with the clan here. Get on a skype call, crack some beers, and go wild.
On an unrelated note, I would like to recruit your help in breaking Flourishing Defenses. I have a playset and I really want to have fun with it. Blowfly Infestation is an obvious inclusion but I don't know where to go from here. The problem I keep running into is being way too high of CMC (all 3 and up). Any thoughts?
I just reread GMAD 298 - Serendib Djinn and got a very warm fuzzy feeling of nostalgia. That was definitely my favorite GMAD we've done so far.
Which reminds me, I need to actually put it in a deck... Do I attempt to finish my playset and build a casual 60 card deck or just put the one copy I have in a UBG EDH deck with Life from the Loam and Dakmor Salvage? I'm leaning towards the latter because it would probably be easier to run Lands Uncharted in that deck, but I'm really not sure yet... It's such a difficult card to build around!
I would go with the latter. It seems fun, but not as a focal point of a deck. EDH seems like such an awesome casual format so far and I am sad I have missed out until recently.
On a related note, tomorrow I will have my first multiplayer EDH experience. I hope I don't get hated out as my Savra deck is very combo oriented.
On another related note: Reaper of the Wild!!!! You will be mine! And Savra will rejoice that you have joined her.
You could always use Drift of Phantasms to find USZ, and even if you don't use it to transmute it's a nice blocker.
I could, but I'm scared of going from Tranmuting to 2s to transmuting to 2-3. It would make me less likely to find the answers I need.
I should maybe try to transmute to 3s as well.
Here's the current problems with the deck:
Lack of card advantage (actually has quite a bit of cards disadvantage).
Win con is very meh.
Past in flames is not searchable. And it's part of my win con.
I know rituals in a control deck are really weird. But they offset the high cost of transmute and Black Sun Zenith's X cost. The deck is slow. Mana leak tends to get bad late game (should these be Rune Snag?).
Thoughts?
The win is Brainfreeze (I used to have a grapeshot in there as well) + Past in Flame + flashbacked rituals + remand.

I'm working on a Transmute toolbox control deck.
Working well, but I don't have enough CA engines (read none).
USZ would be amazing if it's CMC was 2.
I could, but I'm scared of going from Tranmuting to 2s to transmuting to 2-3. It would make me less likely to find the answers I need.
