As a Brit, I cannot stand the news about the royal baby...
9 months of ceaseless news about a child that is born into privelige.
Unfortunately one of the privileges is to be born into a fish bowl with the world's Media permanently glued to whatever they do. Especially with the rules of succession changed if it is a girl.
The Royal family is one hell of an asset for the UK but we currently milk it far to much. Especially with the media coverage.

Even over here in the US, there's more coverage of the UK royal family than we ever get of any of our own political leader's families. I'm not even sure if I know what Obama's kids names are, yet we are all informed about what hat Pippa Middleton is planning to wear to visit her sister and the baby.
I'm a monarchist. But I agree that the papparazi are stupid. But in a lot of things the English are sadly the first. Papparazzi, hooligans, and now mandatory internet porn blockades.
Edit: And that's remarkable for a (nominally) non Muslim country.
This is part of the reason I don't watch the news all too often. Same stuff usually just repeated over and over and a lot of it I do not care about. I turn it on to catch the weather for today then right back off it will go .
Is he looking forward to his Canoe Trip Ziggy?[/COLOR]
That trip to Hudson Bay isn't happening any time soon. Maybe in a year or two. My wife and I like to make big plans, but we'll need lots of time off to get this done. Most likely it'll happen when I'm transitioning to a new job back in Alberta at some point.
But, yeah, Oliver likes canoeing! We went on a long day trip through the city a couple weeks ago and Oliver just kept splashing his hands in the water, making duck noises at the little ducklings and crawling back and forth between me and his mom. Not sure how he'd fare on a month-long trip, but he's usually pretty happy so I don't think it would be a big deal.
(I guess with GDW's absence, you don't really need to steal the cheese, since it would mostly be just the two of us going at it again... unless PG and Kahedron want to get into that game again.)
(Also @PG+Kahedron, and Wessel and maybe Kank too: Hangman is currently down to just me and Void at the moment.)
Wait, Oliver is your own? I thought he was one of the foster kids you were taking care of?
Yep, Oliver's mine. The only kid of our own. And the cutest by far.
Those pics were taken with my iPhone, by the way. I got it a couple months ago and I just love the camera. Besides the fact that it can't zoom, it's nearly as good as my Olympus so I've been having fun carrying a camera with me wherever I go. Maybe I'll post up more pictures of sunsets and whatnot sometime.
Stardust: That Oliver sure is a cutie. I saw an ultrasound of my niece or nephew yesterday. I'm very excited to be an auntie.
Cool! When's the baby due? My brothers don't have any kids yet, but my wife's sister does so I'm an uncle-in-law at least. Unfortunately, I have no idea when I'll next see my nieces. The last time I saw their mother she physically attacked me and said quite a few terrible things to my wife, so that's kinda... screwed up.

?!
Why did that happen? (NotAlwaysRelated?)
Hm... this does bring up another question out of curiosity: Who here has already shown a photo and/or video of themselves on here?
-Me (linked to an article with me and Sophie)
-Kank and PG (various house meets)
-Abby (Dragon costume, and piano videos)
-Pat (as "Wildspeaker" during scavenger hunt contest)
And probably some others I have forgotten...
(DQ seems to be the one that most of us are waiting for, with all those cosplay pics she promised... not to mention her awesome possibly above-average jumping ability.)

You'll get your damn pictures. *Shakes fist* (That should be an emote.)
I have a really fun idea for one... It might not be appropriate for this site though.
Also, I was thinking. How viable would a business centered around cosplay and the making of it be?

Very. The hard part would be establishing yourself as a trusted/well-known Cosplay Maker(Seamstress?). On top of that (I'm sure as you're well aware) a lot of cosplayers like to make their own clothes and outfits because thats half the fun. What you could do is focus more on props since people find those harder to do correctly and charge based on a per-prop. I'd list multiple shops I know that do prop sells (although they're a bit expensive, it makes sense based on the amount of money, time and effort put into it), but alas most of them escape me at the moment.
In conclusion, I'd say it's definitely doable, although you need the start up cash and you probably need some friends big into cosplay so you can get your name and your product known by word of mouth. If you have a friend that you tell them you'll do discounted/free props for as long as they advertise your business, that might help.
I never took the time to actually make a business plan because I never solidified on what I actually wanted my end product to be. That's the most difficult part of trying to open something anime-themed. The anime part is just the subtheme, the real focus has to be something that will bring in non-anime, non-pervert customers as well.
I thought if you start with a coffee shop/bakery background and also carry manga, anime, costume ideas, etc. and just have a huge area with tables and a stage for performances/contests/etc. I think you could have a viable business model right there--especially in a large city (like in the bay area) which could provide you with a large customer base to draw from.
@Kank: The real issue is deciding what the main attraction is going to be. My would be partner was originally thinking of doing milk tea... making it basically a glorified Starbucks or Jamba Juice with an asian twist, but then I have to learn to make the drinks myself since I will likely be the one running the place during startup. I also haven't really looked into what kinds of finger foods I could have/make to go along with the drinks. I don't want to have a business run on Costco reheatables... Or Costco curry as was discovered about a curry place in Japantown... I will likely have to get a Costco business membership anyway since I'll be buying in bulk for what I'm going to be making... I need to consult someone with cooking skills to see what's available...

Check out this awesome flower I found!!
Yep that is Ziggy's little one Oliver.

You know, about a year ago PG emailed me with questions about the viability of a cosplay-based business.
Yo PG! Whatever happened to those ideas you had?
(I won't go into any details in case he doesn't want anyone stealing his business model! :sneaky:)

I just want an excuse to make pretty, ridiculous clothes for profit.
Like my not appropriate costume. It has belts.
