I was watching Brooklyn Nine-Nine tonight (the episode from May 13) and Jake Peralta, gave us this little gem:
“If there’s one thing I know, it’s how to sneak out to a party without your parents finding out. I used to do it all the time… Well, I did it a few times. Once. To go to a Magic: The Gathering tournament. I got stuck in the window like Winnie the Pooh.” — Jake Peralta, Brooklyn Nine-Nine
In the past, Seth Rogen once mentioned, during the opening monologue for Saturday Night Live, while fishing through his pockets that he found his list Magic card ideas.
My question is: Are there any other instances outside of the above two mentioned in which Magic got a shout-out in Hollywood (shows, film, music, etc... but the list should not include Youtube - Youtube is not the traditional 'Hollywood' I am talking about).
I just find it soooo cool that was written into the script. It did not propel the story forward, but it gives us insight into what the character (& maybe even Andy Samberg) is into, hobby-wise. I wouldn't put it past Andy Samberg to play Magic. In fact ,since Joe Rogen & Andy Samberg have connecting circles, I imagine they have even squared off in a few games in the past.
There was some weird product placement in The Sorcerer's Apprentice. I'm not sure the filmmakers knew what Magic was.
It was a... strange idea for WotC to have their products placed in such a way, because they're the corporate sponsor of a genuine evil magician. Some cool cards were made for him, though.

How did I miss that article. Thanks for sharing.
...In the Princess' Diaries novel, Mia's boyfriend plays magic a lot... Don't ask.
You sir are a gentleman and a scholar. I can't wait till I can play my bicycle land out, thus making me heckbent, while I have Nessie on the field. You know, so I can attack with my Pervert.
