Danielson, CT has a new little microbrewery, Black Pond Brews. There's no finer beer anywhere. Occasionally they'll partner with my cafe/game-shop to put forth a local coffee stout with my coffee, and the results are incredibly rewarding to drink. They just sold the last two growlers of the latest such effort. That's been my drink for the last couple of weeks. Another noteworthy creation used no hops, and was flavored in part with local dandelions - surprisingly good. It's nice seeing posts of people supporting their local microbreweries.
Had a friend give me a couple beers to try, I've got a Siberian Night Imperial Stout, Wychwood Scarecrow Ale, and Old Chub Scottish Style Ale. Has anyone heard of any of these, and if so, what did you think?
when I was in university, I usually drank to get drunk so I got a lot of lagers since they're light, mainly Moosehead since I actually still liked the taste.
Now that I drink more for the taste rather than to get drunk, I usually tend to get craft beers. My tastes usually depend on the season tbh.
In the spring and summer I tend to drink hoppy, but not too heavy beers. In teh fall I usually drink spicier beers and beers with a bit more flavour. in the winter I tend to drink heavier ales and stouts.
Drank two beers last night:
1) Hacker-Pschorr Weisse, a white weat beer from Germany that wasn't up to my expectations...
2) Radeberger Pilsner, a lager from Germnay that saved the night!
I'll look up for all of your suggestions guys to see if I can find some of them in Montreal and report back.
I finally found some time to try out the Siberian Night stout, and it was not my style. I found out after drinking it that it was a desert beer, and it was very very sweet. It was a very strong beer, sitting at around 11%. You didn't taste the extra alcohol, but there was no hiding the smell. At first all you could taste was an overwhelming sweetness and hops. It then slowly get more and more bitter, ending at something akin to a true Stout, with some vanilla undertones. Once you swallow you all you taste is dark chocolate, and I mean dark chocolate, like one of those 80% bars. The beer is really thin, which was strange too me, as I'm primarily a Guinness drinker, and that's what I associate with a stout.
Overall, if you like a sweet beer, and like chocolate, you might like this for desert after a decent meal, but it's not a beer for me.
Edit: I would also like to share this wonderful site for beer lovers. It'll help you find just about any beer you are looking to buy. Happy hunting!

Well, I think Bitburger > Radeberger, so if you're in the mood for another pilsner there's one.

Yes, I really enjoy having a Bitburger from time to time! The taste is alright : not the most amazing Pilsner, but I tad better than Radeberger I agree.
Sad beer night : after having a complete day at university, I left at 9:00 pm and had a piano rehearsal afterwards, so before I began rehearsing, I just took a quick beer that I never drank before : Amstel Light. Bitter and metallic taste, so light that it had the aftertaste of a bad wiskey that was left open for years and began softening up. Not recommanded...

Go to pilsners for me are Pilsner Urquell and Bitburger.
Sierra Nevada makes one called Nooner that's pretty good as well.
Lately my thoughts have been going toward the six-pack of Great Lakes Edmund Fitzgerald I bought a while ago. Has anyone else tried this beer? Wonderful porter, and I highly recommend it and the beers of the brewery in general to anyone.
Alright, a beer thread. Something I can really sink my teeth into.
Lately I've been getting away from stouts and getting back into IPAs. A local brewery, Revolver, makes a fantastic Imperial IPA. Haven't been having much to drink the past month or so though since my beer budget is saving up for when Avery's Rumpkin comes in finally. Already got my case of Whole Hog Pumpkin Ale from Steven's Point for the year. Pumpkin beer gets a lot of hate but man do I love a good one.
Could one of you northern guys explain the hype behind Yuengling? Had one this summer while I was visiting family in PA and honestly it wasn't any better than Coors.

Yuengling Black and Tan is a bit less offensive to my tongue than other beers of a similar type (Coors, Bud, Miller), but I think the main reason it's seeing a jump in popularity is their claim that they are the oldest made and owned in the USA beer. Their marketing campain has helped them a lot, as did Budweiser being bought out by a Belgian owner, as many thought of Bud as the all American beer.
Yuengling is the lowest I'll go, as I'm very picky when it comes to beer after stupidly drinking Natural Light until I got alcohol poisoning. Now lighter, hop-ier beers upset my stomach just from the smell and initial taste. Black and Tan has a more mellow hop taste and is a bit more bitter, which is more in the type of beers I prefer.
The crappy dive bar across the street just got Pliny the Elder in. I went over to grab a bottle knowing that the last time I had it it was $9 for a pint... $18. $18 goddam dollars for a 16 ounce bottle of beer that isn't even that good. I swear, people and their brand loyalty.
I do have a batch of Black IPA about a week away from kegging though, so that'll get me through October with any luck. Super heavy on the CTZ hops at the end of boil and then another ounce to dry hop with. I've been meaning to pick up a hop rocket though... maybe this year.
Was pleased to find that Samuel Smith Yorkshire Stingo is being sold where I live right now.
It's pricey, but I really like old ales, and Stingo's quite a good one. Saving this bottle for Thanksgiving, as I've found it pairs perfectly with turkey dinner.
A beer thread.... Why haven't I found this before..
Drank yesterday:
La Chouffe: golden beer, 8° from The Ardennes. Slight Hop taste, fruity but dominant malty and with a nice Coriander touch.
Bittersweet and goddamn, the dwarf tasted good.
This
And, being Dutch and all:
one word,
Grolsch
I like Grolsch although it does smell like cat piss. The Beer I'm waiting for at the moment is Serra Nevada Bigfoot ale that is one of my favorites but sadly it's a seasonal selection.
^I must say, when I'm across the border in The Netherlands, I prefer Hertog Jan. Less watery than Grolsch (although grolsch is still better than Heineken...).
My beer this afternoon will be:
Cornet: blond belgian beer. 8.5 degrees seems to be malty, but clear. And this beer is oaked, so I expect a smooth taste.
Ideal with meat heavy dishes.
Won 2 awards in 2014.
Post drinking impressions: WOW, this is good stuff. Hop taste, malt aftertaste but oh so smooth. A real recommendation.
Picture found online using google.
I was meaning to mention Hertog Jan. By far my favourite Dutch pilsner. Heineken is more known for it's marketing than it's taste if you'd ask me. I'm a huge fan of La Trappe myself too.

A hobby is by defenition something you're not any good at - otherwise it'd have been your work. Magic is my biggest hobby so I mustn't be very good at it.
Okay, I know it isn't a beer, but... Ballast Point's Barrel Rested Old Grove small batch gin is freaking fantastic. It's gin mellowed in a charred oak barrel. If you can find it, or special order it, put it directly into your mouth, or maybe stick a whiskey stone in there.
Drank some beers from a popular microbrewery in Quebec : Unibroue. Drank La blanche de Chambly, a white beer, and La fin du monde, a very strong one that didn't make the cut.

Unibroue has some good beers my favorite from them is
Trois Pistoles.

Trois Pistole is good : I prefer white ones, but it's a good beer!
I like Imperial Stouts but I can't be drinking a big beer like a stout all the time so recently I've been drinking Deschutes Black Butte Porters and I really like them. Every beer I've had from Deschutes has been really good .
