This year I'm attending a halloween fun run instead of the usual after work halloween party. Planning to dress up as a Ninja Turtle. (Who's winning the race now?)

Why do I like posting in lists:
1. It allows me to express multiple thoughts without a need to write an essay or make multiple posts. 2. I tend to have multiple thoughts at the same time. 3. Having the right first opinion is sometimes more glorious than having a grammatically correct second opinion. 4. It allows you as a reader to pick out the most erroneous point and counter-comment, allowing you the chance to express an opinion and look like a sensible person when I sound like a dummy.
Another great Costume would be one I saw at UTSA. A gorilla chasing a guy in a banana costume. I died laughing as the banana guy would creep out of hiding from building to the next only to be surprised by the gorilla costumed guy and the chase in on.
They ran through classrooms doing that at SBU, it was one of the funniest things I've ever seen!

It mostly consists of a napalm filled trench around my house and a stack of 1994 pornography in my basement.

As much as I'm against the OTT view that this card is going to solo tournaments, cure cancer and make Susan Boyle attractive I'm not really a fan of the opposing camp who think it slaughters puppies and sired Justin Bieber.
I was Second Technician Arnold Judas Rimmer, and my wife was Kitara. Our daughter was fluttershy (from the equestria girls movie) and our son was spike. See below for majesticly awesome Spike costume handmade by my wife:
I worked, came home and studied. I cleaned my closet, laundered a bunch of surgical gowns and white coats and tidied my half of the room. There were no trick and/or treaters, and it was quite night in.
Can you please give those of us that don't have this Hallowe'en culture an account of the events that transpired on the day and evening of 31 October?
My two year old niece got dressed up as Jessie from Toy Story 2 and 3 and went on a costume parade at her preschool. It was super adorable. She and my nephew went trick-or-treating around the neighborhood in costume and got lots of candy.
I live in a significantly less nice neighborhood, and hung out in the evening getting my buddy caught up on Game of Thrones. The shorthand for 'having candy' or 'open to trick-or-treaters' are your outside lights on and at least one decoration. My wife and I carved a pumpkin this past weekend and I put a candle inside. It was actually her first pumpkin, as she obviously didn't have halloween in India and the only American holiday her family celebrated was Thanksgiving (although her mom is a kindergarten teacher and always had her kids come in costumes).
Throughout the night kids came and knocked, and I like seeing the excited kids and their costumes. I moved from a more affluent neighborhood, so the volume of kids we got was really disappointing, and I've got a lot of leftover candy. This year we mostly had various princesses. Some parents were really lame and followed their kids in a car rather than walking around the neighborhood with them.

Hmmm... all in all, that sounds like a pleasant night.
Your wife has observed (not actually participated in; rather, that she's 'seen') more than one Hallowe'en, hasn't she?
Also, do you celebrate Diwali, Pitru Paksha or something? With due respect, I have no exact idea of how cross-cultural/-ethnic relations marriages work, as the range is so broad!
Hm, sorry to hijack this thread or something... with trick and/or treat, surely parents would have concerns for their kids' safety (paedos, murderers and generally unpleasant people) as well as their own if they were to accompany their kids. I guess it would also be somewhat impolite and presumptuous that neighbours lavish treats upon kids too.
I myself remember having gone trick or treating when I was in the US a long, long, long time ago. I don't remember anything going awry but there's obvious potential for that.
Hey, does anyone celebrate Samhain / Beltane, the festival that partially inspired Hallowe'en?
Hm... back on the topic in the OP, mmm... I can't think of anything more inspired than a sexy nurse costume. Classy!

I'm Agnostic (formerly Catholic), she is Hindu. Cross cultural marriages all work differently, but for us we're both pretty laid back when it comes to that stuff. We are actually celebrating Diwali on Sunday, and we celebrate Holi and some others. I went to the local temple with her family for one of the days of Pitru Paksha. Our wedding was an abbreviated Hindu ceremony, although I know couples who've blended the wedding customs (our only blend was the use of bridesmaids and groomsmen and some western reception traditions like a cake). Hopefully that explains it. She's heavily americanized to the point where most people wouldn't guess she spent the first 8 years of her life in India, but with her family they never celebrated American holidays and she had a hard time growing up because her parents were pretty restrictive (although much less so than most first generation families, they are fairly progressive by Indian standards).

Trick-or-Treating tends to be a good neighborhood bonding experience. There are always dangers when a bunch of kids are out and about, and you should always supervise your kids, but in general the biggest concerns are little punks egging or toilet papering your house. In my old neighborhood there would be kids going around smashing people's pumpkins every year.
Did that. It took me a good goddamn bit of money too, and five people out of basically half the town recognized me. That exceeded my expectations so I'm happy.
I was an archer but I told everyone at the comic book store that I was going as the Dovahkiin. My female character Dalia is a wood elf heavy on the archery.
The 10th Doctor
The Merchant from Resident Evil 4
The Fonz
Seeing as I've done the former two already, I think I'm going to be Fonzie.

Très lame.

She has participated in Halloween before, and has done costumes for a long time, but she never did a pumpkin carving until now.
