I live in a large city and it's more likely that someone will be killed by the police than be the victim of a homicide. One cop shot a suspect in the back of the head "accidentally" even though he wasn't involved in a crime. That cop is still on the job "protecting" the streets.
When I have five rich lawyers telling me not to trust the cops and knowing their history in our communities, nope nope nope. I'll protect myself and my own.
Agreed. The few times that I've had to call the police to my home, it has taken them at least 10 minutes to show up. Just saying.
Always:

I don't wear jewelry out of habit from when I worked as a mechanic. When working on cars, conductive metal rings attached to one's self is an easy way for serious injury, and they get in the way a lot as well. Now I just hate the feel of wrist watches and rings on me, they feel so foreign.
I understand that in many places in America it is wise to be able to defend your family, but I do truly wonder whether some of you wouldn't prefer living in an environment where guns are enormously rare?
I understand your sentiment, but that kind of environment unfortunately doesn't exist (and won't exist). The very fact that other (bad) people have guns is what makes me feel that possession of one is somewhat necessary. It would be pretty bad to get into a situation in which you did not expect to need one, but do, and you don't have one. SOL

You mean that it doesn't exist in the United States? Because as far as I know one really doesn't need a gun in most places in Europe. Or would you argue that we would be better off if the average citizen here also had access to firearms?
Britain, which is in Europe, is one of the most violent countries in the world. Just because your attacker doesn't have a gun doesn't mean you don't need one either. Just recently in China some scumbags with knives killed like 27(?) people at a bus station. The doctrine of overwhelming force should always apply. I carry a gun and trust me I am going to bring it to bear against anyone who is trying to cause me physical harm no matter what weapon he is using to do it. If I feel like my life is in danger I will use my gun (I hope I have the training and ability to do so) But I am not a cowboy walking around trying to intimidate people. I never ever insert myself into a situation that may escalate, I never let anyone know I have a gun on my person. And if a situation seems like it may turn sour I leave.
Once at an all night diner a couple of my buddies picked a fight with a gang of college kids. I had my carry weapon on me. My friends expected me to have their backs. I walked out to my car and left. I would never rely on the fact that I am carrying to save my stupid friends from a stupid situation and I wouldn't put my gun in the middle of a street fight.
I also have the mantra of "cell phone, keys, wallet, watch", and also in that same order. Although sometimes, I leave behind the watch if I'm not leaving the apartment for classes and such. Makes me feel naked without having all three of the other things with me at all times.

I've used the paracord when I camp. Lashing things, hanging hammocks and setting up tents, things like that.
The first two are out of habit due to work, with the last being a gift from work. If you've never heard of a key back, yet wear a belt all the time, look into it.
I would enjoy a CCW, but currently am strapped for funds. At least for my tastes, as I am eye balling the Sig P226 Elite Stainless. My brother in law has one chambered in .40, and the thing shoots like a dream, I really can't imagine how little recoil the 9mm would have.

If I'm playing Magic at a friend's- a French Army F2 Rucksack with my decks and playmats (it's a small thing) and a Samsung SM-T310 with Skull Candy headphones. I don't like carrying trades on me.
Well, that's it off the top of my head. Scrublord, that's one BA Morpho.
Normal out-of-house carry:
Phone (iPhone 5S... not worth enough to steal & not *****ty enough to make me want to throw it off a bridge like I almost did with the iphone 4)
Wallet (with no cash in it... I don't need cash in Texas. If I'm back in Iowa... with the amounts of cash I need to carry there to play poker, I'd be better off carrying a weapon of some kind as well)
Keys (standard)
No weapon (I refuse to be that guy who carries a gun & has no ******* clue how to use it properly)
For a magic event:
Ultra-pro messenger bag (the really old one with the plastic insert, 5 spaces for decks & a dice pit... that I modified to have room for starter deck boxes & keep the dice contained)
Playmat (depending on where I'm going & whether I expect to encounter drinks on the table, either a tan original 2-player Spellground or a Classic reprint chocolate-colored Spellground. I don't understand how all you people can play on the oversized mousepads...)
4 decks (in the magnetic leatherette flip boxes... these fit the deck spaces in the insert properly)
Pen/paper (even for casual commander, write everything down)
A hundred or so tokens (to cover any deck I have with me)
I'd carry a knife, but most of the things I could carry & properly conceal here are very, very illegal.

Hey all... I'm retired, not dead. Check out what I'm doing these days (and beg me to come back if you want):
I don't wear the paracord bracelet as often, but I'm still rocking the Griever necklace. Also picked up some nice wolf earrings. I'm also always wearing a belt, if that counts.
I have a money clip that has a separate area for my cards (license, debit, credit, etc.).
Keys attached to carabiner (car, apartment, apartment front door, dad's house, can opener).
I'd still carry my lighter if it hadn't gone through the wash...I really need to get that fixed so that I can, again.
Knife (spring-assisted M&P Smith & Wesson with safety, tanto-style blade).
iPod Classic + Skullcandy Hesh 2 headphones.
iPhone 5s + phone case.
Most of the time when I go out, it's to work or my LGS, and my roommate usually drives us to work, so I don't carry my pistol nearly as often as I used to.
If I go out to play Magic, I always have:
My trades
My decks
2 playmats
1-2 dice bags
Same messenger bag as back then, too. Occasionally, I'll use a backpack, instead, but I prefer the messenger bag for Magic or carrying my laptop.

Wallet - About $20 - $50, a few family pictures, and some things like health insurance information.
Passport - I'm a US citizen and live in the United States, but I don't drive so I need some way to identify myself.
Cellphone - HTC One
Knife - Never know when you'll need it.
For magic events I carry a large laptop bag with 3-4 decks for different formats, a Yugioh and Force of Will deck, a playmat, and a trade binder.
Wallet, Keys, Phone (Samsung Galaxy S4). I always have a ritual to myself everywhere I got to tap each respective pocket to make sure everything is there every time I ever get up. Keys on left pocket, phone right pocket, wallet back-right pocket. This is due to my insane fear of losing anything and my insane habit of forgetting something 2 minutes later.
Occasionally carry a very small knife depending on where I'm going.

I thought I was the only one.
Most of the time, going to work and such it's just my keys, phone, wallet, and knife. If I'm headed to Dallas I'll usually bring along my boot knife as well, because it's Dallas. That will be replaced by a pistol once the rest of my tax return comes in. Since it's spring and I live in Tornado Alley, I also keep a small go bag in my car with everything I might need if everything goes pear shaped. Spare set of clothes, phone charger, couple bottles of water, etc etc.

Lol I do all of this, I don't have a speific pocket for my phone, wallet or keys, but I take inventory before going any where. I also have a little bug out bag in my car at all time, and my complete tool box, I used to joke with my friends that I could drop my transmission on the side of the highway...pretty sure I can, just can' get it back in that all.
