Trying to get "back on topic" here: I personally think our military is more than sufficient for defense of the United States and our key interests. We can cut costs in some areas and still be up on top. I will never understand the neo-conservative stance (which you seem to espouse) that there is not any waste in the defense industry that can't be cut. That's one reason why Sarah Palin (see? back on topic) is an absolute joke. To imply there isn't any room at all to spend more smartly and efficiently for our military and still remain on top is absurd.
That's where your opinion and mine are obviously very different.
WTH? You took one point I gave as an example and questioned me at length on it. "That's Rich"? There is tons of waste in Military spending, but the cuts made are a joke to helping the military. I never said that any cuts could be made. You are still off topic and issue chasing by to not explaining why you obviously hate Palin. We get you hate her. We differ on opinion. Exscuse me for supporting Palin.
First, I don't think Democrats promote right restricting legislation any more than Republicans do. In fact, Gun Rights is pretty much the only one they do, and I disagree with it. The Patriot Act, Warrantless Wiretapping, etc. were all started under Republicans (although they were continued by dems). No one escapes culpability here.
Don't get me started on Gun Rights - I'm pro-gun, but the arguments are so ignorant on both sides that it's painful. Pro-gun people think all Pro-control people are trying to take away their guns. Pro-control people think all guns are bad. The only person who wins are the gun companies and the NRA. The NRA is a major problem, because they say one thing and then do another. As in, they help block the feds from having any sort of gun ownership database, even though the feds have access to all that information anyway in hard copies. All it does is prevent law enforcement from doing an adequate job with tracing illegal guns or guns used in crimes, which only serves to further the gun control lobby.
As for entitlements, I see your point. Once enacted, they are impossible to repeal. Just remember not all entitlements are bad, we just need more focus on what's effective, right now we have a scattershot approach to welfare, which is a problem.
Gun rights were an example not a particular point. Stay on target for understanding the theory. Have the Democrats repealed or missused the Patriot act recently? (ignore that, but I had to say it :p)
"Truthy" (a phrase coming from the Colbert report) meaning it appeals to emotion rather than reason - it feels right, even though we don't actually have a rational explanation for it. It's the same reason I called her a soundbyte machine. She's also a 'birther', and her tenure as a Fox News contributor has not done anything to dispel the image of her as ignorant.
He who watches the Colbert Report for news and term learning lacks clear perspective for political conversation. It's not real news! It's entertainment. Thus any further discussion of "truthy" and "birthy" are just entertainment terms not worth discussing.
I disagree with the other junk. I don't like her because I don't believe she is very intelligent, but she continues to be incredibly outspoken, and for no other reason.
Personal statement. Has she lied on camera as alot of Democrats have? Being outspoken is not a political crime unless it against the liberal media.
But the regulation argument is the one I've heard by all the Libertarians I've ever met. So I'm confused here? Are they all wrong or is the party wrong?
We have regulations that serve no other reason than to restrict non-criminal citizens. There are way to many taxes and loop holes for them. The drug crowd is what I am talking about in the nuts that claim to be libertarians.
Responses in Bold. Will get back with responses tomarrow or later. Need to have a life for the rest of day.

You want a reason why I dislike Palin? I thought I made it abundantly clear but let me spell it out for you.
I dislike Palin because she obviously cares more for political celebrity than actually accomplishing anything.
She has demonstrated that she cares for her political celebrity in numerous ways. For instance, she resigned as Governor of Alaska, because she was shrewd and understood that she could make much more money as a political contributor on Fox News, as opposed to actually trying to accomplish anything. Remember, she was only Governor of Alaska for 2 years... that's it.
She further floated her name as a potential contender for President but never bothered running for office. She simply wanted to keep her name in the news.
She understands better than any of her followers ever could that she cannot hope to win a major election again. Way more Americans have a negative opinion of her than positive, even in her own party.
Getting defeated in a major election (President, Senate, you name it) would destroy whatever is left of her political clout and render the "Sarah Palin" brand destroyed.
To sum it up, I dislike Sarah Palin because she is a political celebrity and not a politician. She will not run for Alaska Senate, you can bank on that.
"He who watches the Colbert Report for news and term learning lacks clear perspective for political conversation. It's not real news! It's entertainment. Thus any further discussion of "truthy" and "birthy" are just entertainment terms not worth discussing.
I watch the Colbert Report for entertainment, not news. I read the BBC and listen to NPR for news.

This is the problem with a regulation debate - I think there are plenty of business and health-related regulations that are absolutely necessary. I also think regulations are a victim of their own success, like vaccines. People haven't grown up experiencing the blatant abuses that the regulations exist for, so they no longer see a threat that previous generations took very seriously. But it would depend on the regulation, I have no doubt there are many that are ultimately unnecessary.
She also does not want to abolish the Federal Reserve.
Sarah Palin is a perfect example of why I'm no longer a neocon and why I became a libertarian (and ultimately an anarcho-capitalist). I realized a 3-4 years ago that libertarians were the only true advocates of free markets and personal liberty.
Neo-con->libertarian seems to be a fad lately ideologically since the Bush burn out and the crash and Ron Paul on the internet became popular. It's an interesting trend when you consider the last wave like this was probably Marxism and the New Left.
The "only true advocates" for "free markets" depends on how you define free markets and what theory and historical interpretation you use and the end goals. There are some forms of liberty and trade offs for other forms of liberty that people would be hard pressed to live without, which is ultimately why I find anarcho capitalism to be attractive yet impractical to the masses.
However, the Jeffersonian aspects of libertarianism are ingrained in the US traditionally. The anarchism isn't so much and more of a Rothbard and Mises and friends appeal, and frankly I do see it falling out of fad as libertarianism moves to be more mainstream to be more like it's classical ancestor in Jacksonian policies. Until the Jacksonian maturation with some of the libertarian thought process taking on more traditional American intellectual flow, anarchism isn't going to rise at all.
As for Pailin herself, she seems to be one of these knew "Young Guns" and other such celebrity attempts at politics since '08 after her initial run she has really cashed out. She's fallen more in line with her original trends to be a good talk show circuit and talking head than a politician.

Ambition must be made to counteract ambition.
Individualities may form communities, but it is institutions alone that can create a nation.
Nothing succeeds like the appearance of success.
Here is my principle: Taxes shall be levied according to ability to pay. That is the only American principle.
Theory works. Issue can be replaced if their is a significant partison devide on certain issues. Stay on Target, Stay on Target (Star Wars quote)
I'm not a democrat, so it's okay.
Easier to explain with clear devide. Gets complicated when Republicans start voting/speaking Rhino (Texas talk).
I watch the Colbert Report for entertainment, not news. I read the BBC and listen to NPR for news.
I hate NPR. I listen to WOAI and KTSA in San Antonio, Texas. Noticed that NPR gives half the news story in comparison to the radio stations I listed. Also, big news stories seem scrubbed on NPR. Just my gut not liking NPR.
You seem to be focused on Democrats. This is not a zero-sum game, and I'm not a Democrat.
I know, and it is just how I look at things, don't worry. Easier to explain theories with 2 party system, unless I have Primary election results to look at.
Also, a google search of 'Palin Misstatement' returns 3,250,000 hits. Here is the first:
Interesting, I bet they ran out of data space for certain presidential candidates/winners.

You are so right there. The pro-drug folks have no idea how many lives are destroyed by Drug abuse. Want to know the real drug our government/non-addicts are afraid of? Synthisized Dopamine.
In any case, enjoy your weekend.
I did enjoy my weekend. Explored off the beaten path roads by my off road truck for long rides (20-25 miles, horse back, make sure cattle guards can be passed, no huge bridges) for Sister and Dad, ate Goat burgers at Mac & Earnies in Tarply, Texas, Played FNM, and explored Hill Country State Natural Area with my Dog (wolf, named Jetta).

That....is what I was looking for. Feel better now.
Getting defeated in a major election does hurt (presidential level), but Alaska Senate seat should not be hard for her. She has name recognition and a good voter base.
Easier to explain with clear devide. Gets complicated when Republicans start voting/speaking Rhino (Texas talk).
I absolutely get why you keep making that comparison, I'm just trying to point out how that limits scope. Within any given party there should be a range of people voting on various issues, the reason I don't like the RINO comparison is that it systematically discredits moderate voices.
I hate NPR. I listen to WOAI and KTSA in San Antonio, Texas. Noticed that NPR gives half the news story in comparison to the radio stations I listed. Also, big news stories seem scrubbed on NPR. Just my gut not liking NPR.
That's fair, you don't have to like NPR just because I do. I enjoy it because it's devoid of the usual hyperbole surrounding major news stories (or as you call it 'scrubbed').
As far as 'half' the news story, I don't know what you local affiliate plays so I can't really comment. I listen to the Baltimore or Washington affiliates, and they report on stories very neutrally. I like a just-the-facts approach to news reporting, which means that Republicans and Democrats frequently get equal play and are at the very least treated fairly. I'm often surprised at how reasonable Republicans come off on NPR when on TV news they're portrayed as raving lunatics.
You are so right there. The pro-drug folks have no idea how many lives are destroyed by Drug abuse. Want to know the real drug our government/non-addicts are afraid of? Synthisized Dopamine.
Honestly? I'd rather put the money we're spending fighting the war on drugs into better funding for recovery. We criminalize but we don't rehabilitate well, which leads to a lot of recidivism, which is the major problem with the way the current system works.
Synthesized anything is actually a pretty big concern, as the way the laws and regulations around synthesized drugs work makes it difficult to keep up. It seems like every year there is a new 'fake' version of a drug that has to be legislated as illegal (this is just a 'The more you know' interlude).
And, to keep this on-topic, I'd have to say I agree with Rust Golem. I'd rather she be in a State legislature than working at the Federal Level. She is very much a 'brand'.
I don't comment on my politics or political parties.
However, knowing what I know about everything relevant, I think this gubernatorial run and Ms. Palin as a state governor are both bad for her, her family, Alaska, and all other concerned people.
I like how you've ended on an interestingly civil note.
He said he had weekend stuff to do, lol. I don't wish people ill just because they disagree with me - we're having a discussion, nothing more. I've always been of the opinion that if you get bent out of shape over something someone's posted on the internet, you need to take a minute to cool off and reevaluate your priorities.

You have to go live. Just living on the internet for information leaves one wanting real life expieriance. It brings better perspective to your postings as well to go outside for long while.
It may seem I get serious about the discussion, but does anything we say here really matter? You will never change the other guys opinion, but maybe the folks who just read this excercise in fuetility may learn something from both sides.
I sometimes get bent out of shape when certain individuals have poor reading and comprehention skills but have started to just expect now as the norm.
It's unlikely that Palin will get the nomination unless they're truly desperate for someone. Her gubernatorial stint didn't impress the people of Alaska, and afterwards she's been the focus of a perpetual media circus.
What's more likely is she's using her announcement to focus media coverage on herself and boost ratings, not unlike Donald Trump's presidential bid.
