No, it's not. Don't take the fundies in the U.S. and think that they're the overwhelming majority of the U.S. Christian public today, just for starters.
I'm sorry but I do not know what a fundie is. I do however have a reason to believe that non religious people or at least, not religiously motivated people, aren't pushing to teach creationism as a science in public education. Are the school systems grossly under funded? Yes ofcourse. Does that have anything to do with a push to teach creationism along side or instead of evolution? No. That is the agenda of the Tea-Party Republicans.
Uh, what? Are you really just going to take what you heard and regurgitate it here?
You're saying that I can't repeat both the republican and democrat run news sources reporting that the only force against legalizing gay marriage is that it is against "God's will"? I didn't know I couldn't introduce facts to make points.
You are misunderstanding something rather grave(or perhaps you're just ignoring it), and that is the single fundamental reason why I dislike everyone who shouts at people over opinions of all ****ing things.
You say that you want Christians to remove their religion out of your life. But by doing so they have to betray their own beliefs and world-view.
Christian's world views are not impacted by legalizing gay marriage. Allowing homosexuals the same legal rights as heterosexuals has zero bearing on church doctrine nor forces the church to perform ceremonies. It's not like America's laws have any bearing on homosexuals getting into your imagined heaven. It is simply allowing homosexuals to acquire a marriage license and be subject to the same tax benefits and inheritance benefits as heterosexuals. In fact, Christians are betraying their American beliefs and world views by not allowing their homosexual brothers and sisters the FREEDOM to the same legal rights they receive.
You say, tough luck! I still don't like your religion and I want you to do things the way I want them to be. Only once you meet a set criteria will I leave you alone and not consider you idiots/monsters/adjective of your choice.
Tough luck? "Hey fellow American who happens to be Christian, quit denying your fellow American's the same rights you enjoy because they do something different than you in the bedroom!" Tough luck indeed. I don't dislike the supposed moral view of the teachings of God. I dislike the bastardized world view of the zealots that protest the loudest against their fellow men and women in the rights to do whatever they want with their own bodies.
Coincidentally, you dislike Christians for exactly the same reasons above.
I've multi-quoted the poop out of your message because I wanted to reiterate that it is Christian beliefs being imposed upon everyone with these laws since the only prominent group in American who hold beliefs that would push the laws I'm calling into question are Christians. So in fact, NO, I dislike Christians for limiting the rights of non Christians in a supposedly free society.
You are trumpeting your world-view as the "truth". Christians do the same. There is obviously no middle ground, and that is the reality of it.
There is no solution here, besides ideological genocide.
I get the picture that you put a lot of words in my mouth. I don't care what Christians do for themselves and their own families/communities. If you don't want to have gay sex or get gay married or abort pregnancy, go for it. I don't care what you do with your body. If you want to teach your children creationism, great, I hope you teach them to be respectful of opposing belief systems as well. If you don't want them to be taught the scientifically proven facts about where we come from, home school them. No one pushed for evolution to be taught, there isn't a campaign for it. It is simply the way things are and therefor thought to be important for young minds to understand before released into the society. I have a huge cross to bare, pardon my pun, when it comes to Christians imposing their beliefs on everyone else in this country. I'm strait and a man so I'm not going to be marrying a man or aborting a fetus any time soon. That doesn't diminish my responsibility to my fellow American's to speak out for their rights to do with their body as they see fit. If that makes me a "idiots/monsters/adjective of your choice" then so be it. I do what is morally right because it makes me feel good about myself and not because some book told me to or some imagined prize at the end of my journey.
You can attempt to vilify me all you want, but the only thing I'm attempting to "force" Christians to do, is mind their own damn business and get their religion out of the laws that govern me.
Edit; I just wanted to throw in that I don't find the teachings of any religion to be completely unworthy of interest. In fact, I really like the story of the Demiurge in Gnostic religion and some of the teachings on how to live one's life. It wins points on originality if nothing else. It doesn't make it anymore true than Zeus or Kali.
I'm trying to say this politely and considerately.
I don't believe in your religion. I do love people but I don't serve them. If I introduce them to doing right for the sake of being a human being in a morally driven society, great. If not, I'm still going to stand up for my rights to not be manipulated by your religious views. Instead, I'll just be an example of who I am.
The fighting needs to stop. I'm no asking you to quit praying. I'm not asking you to quit congregating. I'm not asking you to quit believing. I am DEMANDING that you get your religion out of my life and laws. Be considerate to your fellow human beings. If this world were run by a bunch of married gay people and (sorry) women with aborted fetuses swinging beneath their knees, demanding you no longer be free to practice your religion, I would speak out for you. Get a grip.
Get a grip on what?
I haven't expressed my political views so you can't pretend to know them solely because I said I believe in Jesus.
That's no different than stating all black people love watermelon (in a serious manner).

I have no idea why Splashing black got so aggressive in his opinions of us. Saying you believe in Christ seems to require putting on a flame retardant suite. Someone always has to complain to or about us when we, the individual has done nothing but stated "I believe in Jesus!". They expect us to tolerate them (when we already do personally or don't care), stop forcing religion down their throats (we haven't personally or have better things to do), and stop the fighting among religions (anyone see a Christian set up road side bombs?). You never hear or see the atheist, secularists, and other non-religious folks talk about Muslims as they do us on a forum or in public. WTH? They feel they have to take time out of their day to give a piece of their mind about our religion. Discriminate much? Also, they always use issues such as gay marriage to corner us in a argument, but we never wanted to argue about it anyway!
Glad to see another fellow Christian!
Just to be clear on discrimination. I'm a white, strait male that grew up in a religious household and went to religious schools where I had to memorize the bible. So I understand Christianity's message. I was in a two and a half year long relationship with a black woman and got to experience the tip of the ice burg of the racism she had to grow up with. My best friend for nearly six years had two "mothers" who also happened to be a mixed race couple who welcomed me into their home as if I was their own son. I try very hard to not be discriminatory. Choosing to believe in religion and having someone criticize you for that choice is not discrimination. If it were, then there wouldn't be any socially acceptable arguments against members of the KKK or Westboro Baptist Church since their members choose to be in those organizations. You're both foolish to believe that having the choices you make in your life questioned is even in the same spectrum as discrimination.
Being religious and being pious are two different things, I would think. You can believe in a faith without adhering to it's tenants.
Maybe that's not what he's talking about. Being religious often requires certain attendance, personal study and tithes. It can be tempting to spend that time/money elsewhere.

"[Screw] you and the green you ramped in on." - My EDH battle cry. If I had one. Which I don't.
I must say, this is truly an interesting thread. I believe I will skip most of the over-the-top reactions and just say what I believe, which to me, makes far more sense than other views and/or beliefs.
First, God exists, but not as some omnipotent being waiting to strike down those that stray to far. That would be Karma and fate's job. No, God is just the collective conscious of those who have passed on into their next life. God is our past lives, our past identities. There are cases of children being able to recall, in great detail, about their past lives. They have never before been to the places they describe, but everything is where they say it is. That is the end result of someone holding on too long onto a last regret.
God does not care which hole a man's genitals go in, or what enters a woman. We were not "made" in his image, we are a part of it. Souls fracture when we die depending on our choices in life, and each fragment forms a new life to be born. There are no tenants that we must force upon ourselves, aside from being kind to others, because in truth, we are all connected.
It is a very Taoist view, but not quite.

You are confusing religious leader agenda with religion. It is horrid that you and your friends experience such discrimination, but that is individual discrimination, not the religion of Christianity. There are odd interpretations from preachers who try to make a name or stir trouble to gain support for their strange goals. Many old timers are still very racists, but they are dying off. Please don't sneak in general Christianity or Baptists as being racist as a whole cause many are not and will never be. Your point cam across as such.
I'm currently Agnostic, leaning spiritual. Faith and beliefs are fine and all, I just don't see a place for organized religions. That whole mob mentality thing just rubs me the wrong way.
I was raised Roman Catholic, but my parents didn't baptise me at an early age like usually happens around here, instead waiting for me to grow up to let me decide for myself. For that I'm truly thankful (and I ended up deciding not to do it).
I am mildly interested in spiritism / Kardecism and in African religions like Candomblé, but only in a purely academic way.
