It's my opinion, but its not about Democrats, its about Obama. He's no Truman and no Roosevelt. The only thing he's got in common with those men is that he knows his liberal domestic agenda is about control not about doing what's right for the lower class.
The Obama administration has
- Participated in the Libya conflict.
- Approved the killing of Somalia Pirates threatening US citizens.
- Approved the Killing of Osama Bin Laden on an ally territory without prior consent (latter might not be true but covered up to prevent political upheaval).
Please if you are going to make random accusations at least try to keep some semblance of fact in them. A US president be Democrat or Republican is not going to take an attempt at war lightly.
Doesn't matter though, I really doubt there is a conflict to be had here as North Korea propaganda and saber rattling is more to keep its impoverished populace sated than it is to threaten the US. The fact North Korea has managed to survive this long is evidence that at least someone in power there knows that a conflict wouldn't be in their best interest.
Why should the innocent people of North Korea be forced to starve due to the delusions of a fascist dictator?
Because he's the fascist dictator that's causing them to starve. If they don't like it, they can leave or band together and overthrow or give up and die.
The humanitarian effort is noble and all, but really it's just perpetuating a terrible state of affairs. If we cut off the support, the people will be forced into taking action themselves.

"[Screw] you and the green you ramped in on." - My EDH battle cry. If I had one. Which I don't.
First, this is just some rhetoric from Jong-Un to drum up publicity and garner attention. If we thought NK was a threat, we'd already be handling that.
Second, for anyone who says Obama lacks stones with regards to conflict, not only did he send troops into libya, but he regularly bombs people with robots and he had Osama bin Laden shot and dumped in the ocean. Man has ice water in his veins.

There was a recent news article I read on the Internet regarding North Korea planning on declaring a military strike on U.S. Bases in Guam, Hawaii, South Korea, and try to hit the Continental U.S. you can take a look at it here:
After President Obama's trip in the Middle East to encourage Israel to work together with Turkey against the current ongoing threat with Iran and Syria especially with Russia working behind the sidelines, I was very surprised that he didn't do anything in regards to the ongoing nuclear threat in North Korea right now.
I'm assuming the U.S. Government is waiting to hear what China is going to say regarding North Korea's recent actions but talk is cheap and waiting will get you nowhere. What President Obama should do is have Secretary of State John Kerry go to China to talk with them about North Korea since they seem to want to start a war with us.
It's very eerie how Iran is working behind closed doors with North Korea, while Russia is aiding Iran and Syria at the same time. Egypt well that's another story I guess...

If anything will come of this, and I highly doubt that this will even be the case, it can be said that nothing good will come of it. Everything else is academic.
If anyone strikes, retaliatory action may be swift enough or it won't. Most of the UK papers guys say that retaliation will be too slow and that, if it isn't, it'll do a fat load of good.

Pretty much. Retaliation would be focused on preventing continuing artillery barrages and missile strikes, as the big threat is the DPRK launching artillery at civilian targets. It would take anywhere between minutes or hours for a broad response, so the promise of US protection is one of revenge as much as response.
What's more worrisome is the development of medium range missiles with 1900 mile ranges. While right now they aren't particularly troublesome, further development could hone their accuracy and reliability to the point where they can actually hit something and carry significant payloads while doing it. Conventional warheads have many benefits, but the DPRK relies on the strategic benefit of using them and its downtrodden populace as a sword of Damocles for China and SK.
Not to mention the fact that their allies (Russia and China) aren't backing then up either and no one wants an all out war. Either way, both koreas will look like they will lose either way.
Oh, my! This is terrible news. Can this really lead to a nuclear war?
Dude, North Korea threatens someone every freaking day. No one cares.
Hell, if they actually went through with it, it'd probably be an improvement. The hope is they'll collapse like the USSR, but if they declared war, China would abandon them, the US would clean their clocks, and we'd finally get the two Koreas reunited assuming China doesn't try to interfere with that, which they probably would.
HA! WW1 happened because of all the secret treaties and alliances. WW2 happened because of the fascist alliance and its military expansionism.
North Korea has no one. If it actually declared war on the US, it would take China all of one second to declare its alliance with the United States against them.
Why should the innocent people of North Korea be forced to starve due to the delusions of a fascist dictator?
If NK ever becomes a democracy, how do you think the populace will feel towards the country that kept them fed?
It's in our long term best interest to feed them, regardless of the humanitarian and compassionate reasons to do so.
Be careful here. We know little about North Korea, and we don't know how much the North Korean people know, but one thing is clear: the cult of personality of the Kim family is very strong.
Yes our Nobel Peace Prize (I lost all respect for the award due to this) President has no problem bowing to the whims of imperialist Europe but to defend his own people? No he'd let them bomb us first.
It's my opinion, but its not about Democrats, its about Obama. He's no Truman and no Roosevelt. The only thing he's got in common with those men is that he knows his liberal domestic agenda is about control not about doing what's right for the lower class.
Dude, I'm all for ragging on Barack Obama, but I respect him for his Nobel Prize speech. They gave him the prize specifically to promote an anti-war agenda and he told them "Thanks but no thanks, still not going pacifist" in the most eloquent way possible. He's an empty suit, but he gave the right speech at the right time and I salute him for that.
Put simply, Obama isn't that liberal. He'll pull the trigger when it comes North Korea messing with us.
The moves of the U.S. imperialists to violate the sovereignty of the DPRK and encroach upon its supreme interests have entered an extremely grave phase. Under this situation, the dear respected Marshal Kim Jong Un, brilliant commander of Mt. Paektu, convened an urgent operation meeting on the performance of duty of the Strategic Rocket Force of the Korean People's Army for firepower strike and finally examined and ratified a plan for firepower strike.
The important decision made by him is the declaration of a do-or-die battle to provide an epochal occasion for putting an end to the history of the long-standing showdown with the U.S. and opening a new era. It is also a last warning of justice served to the U.S., south Korean group and other anti-reunification hostile forces. The decision reflects the strong will of the army and people of the DPRK to annihilate the enemies.
Now the heroic service personnel and all other people of the DPRK are full of surging anger at the U.S. imperialists' reckless war provocation moves, and the strong will to turn out as one in the death-defying battle with the enemies and achieve a final victory of the great war for national reunification true to the important decision made by Kim Jong Un.
The Supreme Command of the KPA in its previous statement solemnly declared at home and abroad the will of the army and people of the DPRK to take decisive military counteraction to defend the sovereignty of the country and the dignity of its supreme leadership as regards the war moves of the U.S. and south Korean puppets that have reached the most extreme phase.
Not content with letting B-52 make sorties into the sky over south Korea in succession despite the repeated warnings of the DPRK, the U.S. made B-2A stealth strategic bomber and other ultra-modern strategic strike means fly from the U.S. mainland to south Korea to stage a bombing drill targeting the DPRK. This is an unpardonable and heinous provocation and an open challenge.
By taking advantage of the U.S. reckless campaign for a nuclear war against the DPRK, the south Korean puppets vociferated about "preemptive attack" and "strong counteraction" and even "strike at the commanding forces", openly revealing the attempt to destroy monuments symbolic of the dignity of the DPRK's supreme leadership.
This clearly shows that the U.S. brigandish ambition for aggression and the puppets' attempt to invade the DPRK have gone beyond the limit and their threats have entered the reckless phase of an actual war from the phase of threat and blackmail.
The prevailing grim situation more clearly proves that the Supreme Command of the KPA was just when it made the judgment and decision to decisively settle accounts with the U.S. imperialists and south Korean puppets by dint of the arms of Songun, because time when words could work has passed.
Now they are openly claiming that the B-2A stealth strategic bombers' drill of dropping nuclear bombs was "not to irritate the north" but "the defensive one". The U.S. also says the drill is "to defend the interests of its ally". However, it is nothing but a lame pretext to cover up its aggressive nature, evade the denunciation at home and abroad and escape from the DPRK's retaliatory blows.
The era when the U.S. resorted to the policy of strength by brandishing nuclear weapons has gone.
It is the resolute answer of the DPRK and its steadfast stand to counter the nuclear blackmail of the U.S. imperialists with merciless nuclear attack and their war of aggression with just all-out war.
They should clearly know that in the era of Marshal Kim Jong Un, the greatest-ever commander, all things are different from what they used to be in the past.
The hostile forces will clearly realize the iron will, matchless grit and extraordinary mettle of the brilliant commander of Mt. Paektu that the earth cannot exist without Songun Korea.
Time has come to stage a do-or-die final battle.
The government, political parties and organizations of the DPRK solemnly declare as follows reflecting the final decision made by Kim Jong Un at the operation meeting of the KPA Supreme Command and the unanimous will of all service personnel and people of the DPRK who are waiting for a final order from him.
1.From this moment, the north-south relations will be put at the state of war and all the issues arousing between the north and the south will be dealt with according to the wartime regulations.
The state of neither peace nor war has ended on the Korean Peninsula.
Now that the revolutionary armed forces of the DPRK have entered into an actual military action, the inter-Korean relations have naturally entered the state of war. Accordingly, the DPRK will immediately punish any slightest provocation hurting its dignity and sovereignty with resolute and merciless physical actions without any prior notice.
2. If the U.S. and the south Korean puppet group perpetrate a military provocation for igniting a war against the DPRK in any area including the five islands in the West Sea of Korea or in the area along the Military Demarcation Line, it will not be limited to a local war, but develop into an all-out war, a nuclear war.
It is self-evident that any military conflict on the Korean Peninsula is bound to lead to an all-out war, a nuclear war now that even U.S. nuclear strategic bombers in its military bases in the Pacific including Hawaii and Guam and in its mainland are flying into the sky above south Korea to participate in the madcap DPRK-targeted nuclear war moves.
The first strike of the revolutionary armed forces of the DPRK will blow up the U.S. bases for aggression in its mainland and in the Pacific operational theatres including Hawaii and Guam and reduce not only its military bases in south Korea but the puppets' ruling institutions including Chongwadae and puppet army's bases to ashes at once, to say nothing of the aggressors and the provokers.
3. The DPRK will never miss the golden chance to win a final victory in a great war for national reunification.
This war will not be a three day-war but it will be a blitz war through which the KPA will occupy all areas of south Korea including Jeju Island at one strike, not giving the U.S. and the puppet warmongers time to come to their senses, and a three-dimensional war to be fought in the air, land and seas and on the front line and in the rear.
This sacred war of justice will be a nation-wide, all-people resistance involving all Koreans in the north and the south and overseas in which the traitors to the nation including heinous confrontation maniacs, warmongers and human scum will be mercilessly swept away.
No force on earth can break the will of the service personnel and people of the DPRK all out in the just great war for national reunification and of all other Koreans and overpower their might.
Holding in high esteem the peerlessly great men of Mt. Paektu, the Korean people will give vent to the pent-up grudge and realize their cherished desire and thus bring a bright day of national reunification and build the best power on this land without fail.
I question if this is just pandering or if North Korea is actually going to try and invade.

This would not be the first time they tried to get attention. But at the same time they are the only country right now that is crazy enough to actually do this....
America is NOT a popular country in the world but no one really wants to go to war with us for the most part. Well I take that back. No 1st world nation wants to go to war with us right now. Korea has a lot of devastating potential and unfortunatly what NEEDS to happen would be a total worldwide effort to stop North Korea. I would hate to have to invade the country but if China and Russia would abandon them or even better join forces AGAINST them it could be done swiftly and correctly. Potentially even decemate the north Korean political system and make it simply "Korea" again by giving it all back to the south Koreans.
Thus earning North Korea a surefire entry on the "top 10 dumbest decisions of the 21st century" list.

The DPRK... talk about a paper tiger. The majority of ROK citizens aren't even paying attention to the current situation.
They consistently push the envelope (sinking South Korean naval vessels, barraging their islands with artillery and killing 4 ROK Marines) in a vain hope to gain more leverage in international negotiations. I think they're going a little too far this time. Kim Jong Un is not ready for prime time, in case anyone thought otherwise... which I hope is doubtful.
I question if this is just pandering or if North Korea is actually going to try and invade.
Truth be told, no one who lives in the real world really cares much for the declaration or the statement that North Korea has made, not even their brothers and sisters in the south. Certainly, were there any real repercussions of the action, the clarity be most appreciated; however, the fact is there will be no violent conflict. There may be some shows of force, a few incursions or skirmishes, but that's it.
Either way, I can be thankful that I can sit back, especially in relative safety, and watch this unfold, as horrible as that sounds. I say that because I know that North Korea is toothless and that these statements, pronounced as though deep and profound or meaningful or ominous, are trite and nothing will come of it.
North Korea, as I understand it, isn't interested in reunifying with South Korea after it - the nation, its people, not simply the land - is obliterated from the face of the earth. Unless the big chiefs are off their rockers, they're not going to seek war.
