My dad is in charge of a program that helps lower-middle class people build their own homes for a mortgage that is just the cost of the building materials and plot.
My father has worked for a distribution company for the last 40 years. Due to the company shrinking, and quite a few retirements over the last year, he is now the sole person in charge of all of the phone orders and other general ordering that the distribution company deals with and currently the oldest and longest working individual left in the company. The job entails a ton of paperwork, data entry, learning the specifics of all products they distribute, and lots of proofreading among actually dealing with the businesses and otherwise over the phone that are ordering products for them to distribute to them. (Some of which involves a decent amount of homework).
I honestly for years never quite understood the sheer amount of what he did, and now that i know, I respect him ever the more for how much he has continued to work his tail off for the company even as he sees his workload grow faster than his pay.
My dad is a programmer for a linguistics research lab. His education is in linguistics and his passion is programming so he loves his job and has repeatedly turned down higher-paying positions that require him to do management work instead. I spent some years working in the same lab during college and I'm pretty sure the place would implode without having him around to troubleshoot basically every software issue they have.

However, in today's culture of Justin Bieber, Jersey Shore, and Twilight, where every song on the radio, every program on television and every site on the internet is just another monument to the pinnacle of human stupidity, it's certainly not the worst thing that people could be watching.
My dad is a minister currently working outside the church as a local truck driver while maintaining a homeless ministry.

Out of the blackness and stench of the engulfing swamp emerged a shimmering figure. Only the splattered armor and ichor-stained sword hinted at the unfathomable evil the knight had just laid waste.
My dad's a locksmith and a avid supporter for rescuing victims of Domestic Violence.

Hey guys... Our dads are all way cooler than we are.
That sucks
Don't worry, when you get to be their age you'll be even better.
I have no idea what my dad is doing. I haven't talked to him in five years. The last job he had was that he owned a bar, and it got shut down because the manager of the building didn't want to have a bar in that location. Of course, three years later there's a bar in the exact spot where my dad's bar was.
My dad is also an electrical engineer, and it was funny because he was majoring in computer sciences, but he dropped it because he felt it wasn't a good field to invest his education at the time (1980s-90s).
As of now, I am planning on majoring in biology/chemistry in order to become an optometrist.
My dad is retired because he managed to marry a woman with some money while my mom has to live in my sister's basement. He does not deserve his good fortune.

My father went to MIT for electronics back in the 50s. He was recruited by IBM and simply hated the white collar life. He quit and opened up his own shop fixing small appliances and such and then branched out into a family limo service. I love sitting at the work bench with him while he fixed appliances, I learned a lot from him.
Sadly he passed away in 1980 due to a freak accident, but he passed on his love of electronics and electricity. I became an electrician and his grand son (my oldest boy) is in school now to become an electrical engineer.
Presumably, this is about his profession; if so, then my Daddy is a physician/scientist.
We mightn't see eye to eye on everything but I love my Daddy and he loves me.
To those of you with father's who are deceased or worse, I'm sorry to hear that. To the fellow whose father is living it up, having married (again) well, that's life and life isn't fair!

Before he retired, he was a social studies teacher like I am.
