I'm not impressed. No evidence that the hairs are those of a previously unidentified species, the probability "95%" sounds like they pulled it right from their arse and they have little to no evidence.

We have laboured long to build a heaven, only to find it populated with horrors.
I've been a reader and fan of cryptoshows/books for many years, and follow up on many of the "expert" blogs... pretty much what we all say is one thing... believe it when we see it. We've been burned FAR too often with this junk to let it get our hopes up too much... *sigh*
Though I did recently read a VERY interesting article that in the Pac NW the national park service has a small conspiracy to keep plausable Bigfoot sightings secret so as not to bring in the conversationists. The forest industry is just too important to the area, and anything that could threaten turning it into a protected area would crush the local economy.
My simple view: The world is too big of a place, even in our day and age, for us to know that there is nothing out there. I'd like to believe in a Yeti.....I think it would make a large group of people finally get there day in the sun, to feel validated.
In all seriousness, there could be a cryptid in the Himalayas. There is not a large mammal cryptid in the US, however. There simply isn't enough space to support a population without one have been seen. Maybe in the Yukon.
I wish this was true. I really do. It would be a great experience to have evidence of a completely unknown large mammal spring up. It would definitely bring a lot more interest to investigating the Yukon.
However, I won't believe anything until they get something a bit more concrete.
and yeti enthusiasts flew in from Canada, Estonia, Sweden and the US to exchange findings with their Russian counterparts at a day-long conference in the town of Tashtagol, some 2,000 miles east of Moscow in the Kemerovo region. Locals there have reported an increase in sightings of a creature in recent years.
Ha.
"I know they exist – I see them every day," a conference participant, Robin Lynn, said by telephone from Kemerovo. She says she has a family of 10 yeti-like creatures living on her land in the US state of Michigan.
I thought the some of the Putin comments on that article were hilarious.
Putin's like a Russian Chuck Norris.
I haven't any idea or feelings as to whether these cryptids exist or not but more or less all of these places are poorly studied and barely populated. Perhaps it's plausible and possible?
the chance that a large mammal would not be discovered is extremely slim. i can understand little insects and microbes, but something the size of a gorilla is pretty hard to miss for however many years of dedicated searching.
They have these in Pennsylvania, too. Except here we call them "Snipe" and send gullible people out to hunt for them. A gorilla sized animal hiding in the woods for that long is a fantasy. I think the last big animal to be discovered like they intend to was the Okapi in the middle of Africa, a far more dangerous and inaccessible place than Russia.
A good rule of thumb is that every number is either a measurement, or is calculated from other numbers.
What measurements did they put into their calculator to create "95"?

Interesting side note... If cryptozoologists ever discover the yeti or the loch ness monster, the first thing we'll do is bring in REAL biologists to study it. The crypto guy will get to name it and write a book, do a few interviews... But yeah, the serious work will go to real scientists.

Not if I get there first! If Champ or Nessy ever surfaces near me I'm coming right at it with a weapon. And I'll be the first man anyone's ever heard of who can honestly claim to be a dragon slayer. Just a dream of mine...
For some reason I keep thinking of that one Lovecraft story where the one guy was descended from apes. My own belief is that we would have human-yei kids walking around if they existed and were intelligent enough and genetically capable enough with humans. Considering what humans already yank off to or have relations with, I feel that whenever I see a yeti-human hybrid at the very least is when I'll believe in yeti's.
Until then they make for something to scare small children with stories about, but otherwise there are more interesting things to study in a man's spare time. Gracious I have about 15 books on my own to read yet.

That being said, using their obviously made up number to make jokes is rather fun.

Into the Maw of Hell is a name so awesome, it deserves its own song.
It would be about a world of brown spikes and red fire, where men fight and scream and become blurry masses. Then it would change to somber, we learn that this glorious place exists only in Raymond Swanland's head. To visit it, you must enter the maw of Hell itself.
In places that are fairly barren of human activity, like the arse-end of Russia, its perfectly reasonable to find large undescribed species of mammal.
It was only 1 year ago they found eagles so large they could life a large chimpanzee away with its talons and fly away with it.
Now thats a pretty big bird, quite surprising that noone found it for the last 2000 years. but it happened...
Russians have routinely sent whichever brand of miscreant is in vogue to the arse end of Russia for the past 800 years at least. People spent the last 30 centuries actively attempting to get away Siberia and places like Siberia (Mongolia). If Yetis lived there yeti-borscht would be a delicacy (it would still be disgusting) and there'd be a stuffed one in the Kremlin.
It's also much harder for a big mammal to hide than a big bird - there'd be droppings, lots of footprints, bones, and corpses from time to time. Deep Africa has rainforests which are notoriously difficult to navigate, a panoply of tribes that speak different languages, various new and exciting diseases, and an infamously hostile political situation. The Okapi was protected by all of that. Siberia has been firmly dominated by Russia for centuries.

Saying they don't think the Yeti exists is exactly the opposite of what they need to do in order to be making money.

Footprints in the snow aren't extraordinary evidence, or even evidence, really.
Also, the region will get an influx of tourists if they manage to sell this obvious **** and bull story.
