Six years since Dimebag was murdered by some psycho on stage at a Damageplan show in Columbus. I know most of the metal community dislikes Pantera, but Dimebag was more than just Pantera. He is easily one of the greatest metal guitarists ever.

"Keep in mind just one thing when you argue with idiots- they bring you down to their level and beat you with experience."
People need to realize that Dimebag was more than just a metal guitarist. He got his start playing on an acoustic guitar in a country band and slowly transitioned into the metal scene. But anyways, R.I.P. Dimebag.
yeah someone else died on this who was way more important than dimebag
I believe it was John Lennon wasn't it? Without looking it up, I think he was killed the day afer Pearl Harbor 30 years ago or so, right? * jdski feels in a trivia/chess mood...

Yeah, John Lennon is an important person but Dimebag was more important to the metal world.
Not everyone int he world thinks The BEatles or particulary John Lennon were the best thing ever. Personally, I like their older stuff. Lennon's songs aren't my cup of tea.
Dimebag though was an inspiration. He was one of the most creative guitar players I've heard. His death was unfortunate as it was dramatic. He was also well-known as a really nice guy who never let fame get over his head.
Finally, he was one fourth of one of the most important metal bands in history.
RIP both of them, but I pay my respects to Darrell first.

How is any one person more important than another?
Besides, the Beatles were just pop musicians that knew how to see what's gaining popularity and changed their style accordingly.

I'd like to question that fact. They were really talented. Despite my general dislike towards their music, they do stand as one of the most important musicians in history. Not everyone can "see what's gaining popularity and change their style accordingly".
Their influence is enormous. However, playing down Darrell's death because Lennon died the same date is really close-minded to do.

This thread became a disaster when it derailed into comparisons. Dimebag was a great guitarist, comparing him to another person who died is wildly inappropriate and infantile at best. In each of their respects, John Lennon wasn't half the metal guitarist Dimebag was, and Dimebag wasn't much of a psychedelic pop poet.
Besides, they're both overrated.

I remember lying awake listening to the radio as I was trying to sleep when they said some one shoot him on stage and it was breaking news so they pretty much stopped playing music and kept reporting on this and they had one of there DJs there as well for the show and calling in work telling them whats going on.
BS is BS, any way you look at it!!!

I am petitioning to get players to stop complaining about mythic rarity. Sig this to join the cause.
There would be no Heavy Metal without John Lennon. Black Sabbath was inspired by the Beatles!

Maybe he was trying to be ironic (and not really succeeding)?
Anyway, enough of this stuff, RIP man.
