Well I think that holding a spontaneous Rocky Horror Festival in response would a) be fun and completely distract everybody to what these people are protesting (My town is getting a visit in a few days. The current rumor is that they're claiming that the Virginia Tech Shooting and the collapse of the Blacksburg High School happened because of gay people)

I think this is the best idea. Signs that mock theirs, saying things like "Jesus hung out with 12 men and a prostitute" and "Jesus said to love the ones you hate" (this one can go right next to the "God hates gays" things they say).
get the college's GSA to have a PDA Day next to them, that should ruffle their feathers.
Silly things that will make them furious
Just sounds hypcritical to me. You dont like the offensive stuff they say, so you turn around and say offensive stuff they dont like. What does this accomplish?
That church is comprised of RL trolls that get their kicks off of doing stuff like this and get money from lawsuits against those that assault them. The best thing you can do honestly is probably just ignore them, they thrive on this drama, and I doubt any of them are actually religious. You can picket/protest/whatever against them for laughs or a sense of duty or whatever, but thats what they are after. Just an FYI.

EDH Decks:
Halfdane Sek'Kuar
Please remember to autocard, just do [ card ] CARD NAME [ / card ] and for decks you can cover the whole thing in one deck tag like this: [ deck ] All of the cards in the deck [ / deck ]
Don't touch or assault their persons, property, or beliefs. This makes them look like Holy Martyrs and will get you in trouble with the school and the police. It also goes against the first amendment.
Don't obstruct normal traffic on the sidewalk or street in an attempt to wall them off. This likewise will get you in trouble.
Don't dress in speedos or drag and make out in public. Some people who might otherwise support your efforts to get these people off campus, might be disgusted by that. (Think of the school's reaction to your dancing in a speedo in public; maybe even the GSA will have objections to you, a nongay person, dancing in a speedo in public or misrepresenting the gay students through stereotypes.)
I think your best bet is to print out and carry signs like the link to dailykos suggested. GOD HATES SIGNS and whatnot should be enough to get your message across. Gender neutral, sexual-preference neutral, religion-neutral signs in garish striped colours. Otherwise stay the heck out of their way for the reasons Blue Warlock explained.
GOD HATES SIGNS and whatnot should be enough to get your message across.
Baring the video I posted, sarcastic sings are always win.
You could dress up as "god" (white robes, white beard, etc.) and hold a sign that says "No I don't." Then stand next to people with "God hates X" signs.

Only way to gauge them is under redeeming costs for security. Cities and public ventures are able to get money back for any security charges necessary. If the local police or college are providing security for the protesters, from my limited understanding of such matters places the billing on the protesters staging the event. This happens a lot with the KKK and municipalities.
If these people are using up your college's resources, make the administration make them pay for the security detail and such at the campus. It's more than justified, because if these "guests" on your campus are taking money out of your pocket going to their protesting it's in your self interest to make them foot the bill.

Here is my principle: Taxes shall be levied according to ability to pay. That is the only American principle.
If anyone is interested, there is a documentary called Small Town Gay Bar that goes into great detail about WBC. They have extensive interviews with their leader and even small children in the church. It's scary and sad hearing the youngsters spout off the same hate that the older ones do.
Here is a quick link: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0492487/
It's a good documentary on top of the WBC content.
One thing to keep in mind is that the church is made up mainly of the leader's offspring. IMO, It's a very small cult-like group that survives mainly on indoctrination of it's children. I bring this up because a lot of people seem to think they represent more of Christianity than they really do. A vast majority of Christians don't agree with them (well at least with their methods).
Just sounds hypcritical to me. You dont like the offensive stuff they say, so you turn around and say offensive stuff they dont like. What does this accomplish?
I'm not going to say anything to offend them, I will just be holding a sign with a handful of classmates blasting music on a boombox and singing. I just want them out of my sight. sadly, we can't throw balloons, but i feel like we should be allowed to get them to shut up, but i understand that would lead to a very bad turn of events wiith every other protest. so what do you think for the sign?

Not sure if you will like my idea or not but here it is. Get a whole bunch of people together, stand in a line across from where the crazies are protesting making a big human wall, get everyone to turn their backs on them and don't say anything to them. Just stand in their way in a big line that blocks them from what ever it is they are trying to look at/protest. Maybe everyone could have a message on their backs that says something like "God doesn't hate, God is love". I'm sure there is some passage in the bible about God being love that you could use. I think something like that would get people to take notice.

if you want to troll the easiest crew ever, then reach out to the LGBT community at your college or simply locally. Westboro is nothing but infinite hatred and crazy, and homosexuality is their big big berserk button.
Take your monoblack deck, then set aside 14 swamps. Add 4 Creeping Tar Pits, 4 Darkslick Shores, 4 Drowned Catacombs, and 2 Jwar isle Refuge and add 4 Jace, the Mindsculptors. Your monoblack deck is instantly better. Better yet, drop those refuges, throw in some islands and some mana leaks, and lo and behold, you're now playing a real deck. Congratulations. Welcome to the world of competitive M:TG.
Just sounds hypcritical to me. You dont like the offensive stuff they say, so you turn around and say offensive stuff they dont like. What does this accomplish?
Well, the prostitute thing is factually incorrect, as Mary Magdalene was not a prostitute. That whole thing is completely false.
But I fail to see how using Scripture to illustrate how people who claim to follow Christ's teaching very clearly are doing things that AREN'T following Christ's teaching is "saying offensive stuff".
Of course, a lot of the suggestions posed on this thread are offensive things...
I agree with the human wall idea.
Here's the thing, if you actually put the word out there, either in physical form or online, people will respond to this.
Of all the responses I've heard here, this seems the best. Start turning their protests against their cause. Will it stop them? I doubt it. But it will turn their negativity into a force of good. And likely piss 'em off a fair bit.
"But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us." -Romans 5:8. Therefore, God loves me regardless of what those who haven't read the Bible may say.

It sucks that the constitution protects these people. What can you do other than to drown them out with noise? Nothing will stop them until the government makes some sort of "brittney" law like they did for celebraties after the whole destruction of brittney spears by the media.
I once saw in a forum, this guy say that we should abandon haiti, and he said they should get jobs or something stupid. Like that guy, these people cannot be reasoned with. They were supposed to come to my school a few months ago when my school was performing The Laramie Project. Even though they caused a huge stir and created quite a backlash here of would-be anti-protesters, the WBC never showed up. I'm not saying they will be no-shows at your school too, but there's a good chance nothing will happen. Best of luck if they do show up.
No, it doesn't. The fact that the Constitution allows for the free speech of the people you don't like or agree with is the WHOLE POINT.
I think the point he is trying to get at is that free speech shouldn't entail allowing protests of funerals, which should be a private event that should in no way be allowed to be protested, thus the cause for the supreme court case.

I don't agree with what these people are saying, however I strongly believe in their right to say it. The first amendment is the power to disagree and dissent with the popular opinion. I certainly don't want some government somebody suddenly deciding because he doesn't like what people with green eyes say, that I can no longer voice my opinion on matters. Yes what these people say is hurtful and cruel. Yes its bothersome. Yes, decent people shouldn't have to put up with it, but I for one, will not lobby to forsake their right to say it.

It's once thing to stand opposite of them with opposing sides, but it'll give them and everyone watching a good show if you pretend like your amongst them.

Okay, so they have the right to disagree with an OPINION or some ideal, or some method in which something is done.
Protest war, protest cow slaughter, protest pay cuts, protest this and that.
What are they protesting at a funeral? What ideals are being enforced by some higher power that cause some people to be unhappy? ITS A FUNERAL. How is a FUNERAL any sort of ideal or opinion or method? Its a god damn funeral. How is it constitutional for them to cause pain and suffering to people who are not holding up or enforcing any opinions or ideals. All it is, is families going to the funeral of thier son or daughter father mother uncle cousin whatever.
It is completely WRONG and entirely NOT thier right to do. It is not free speech, there is nothing to speak out about at a funeral. Just because this mothers son joined the army and died, does not mean that the family is supporting the war. Its a funeral you don't go to it to voice your opinions and your ideals you go to it to mourne for the loss of your loved ones.
I hope that the supreme court can realize this and stop these retards.
It is not free speach, and I think it will take some thinking outside the box for people to realize that what they do isn't thier right to do.
