That would be a close 2nd. People who pat themselves on the back for 1. things that other people did. "We won WWII!" 2. things they had no control over. What moment when you earned the right to become a southerner was your proudest moment? The moment you just happened to be conceived there or was it the arbitrary place you were born in?
To answer your question/statement. First being a southerner is not my "proudest moment" it's just one thing I'm proud about. Secondly, I didn't pat myself on the back in any way or form. I was just explaining my offense and my normal reaction to it. Finally, I'm proud in the fact that I refuse to be ashamed of being a southerner and refuse to let some people's negative views of the south affect my life. I don't go around shouting "omg the south iz soo grate" and waving a rebel flag (I too normaly don't care for over zealous shows of fanboyism such as those of football fans that are just a little bit too much into the game). Sorry If I sound a little crass in my response but this was just the way it came out.
or dinosaur pirates!!! big hulking dinos with eye patches and peglegs and troll the ocean on their ships made of smaller dinosaur bones in search or treasures. I would sooo go for that. or better yet, slave dinosaurs that serve the pirates like some sick dinotopia world where people own the dinos.
People who choose not to look into a subject enough to form a legitimate opinion, following the majority or their family's opinion instead; who then bash those who feel strongly about it. Happens all the time at school.
Care to explain this? I don't fully understand it.
It isn't difficult to figure out. 98% (yes I'm grabbing a figure out of the air) of people who bash Christians know nothing about Christianity. They make claims about Christianity that are outrageous and totally baseless. They generalise us as bigots, which is a blatant lie. They make their claims based off a very small vocal minority.
I make room for the possibility people can have legitimate, well founded objections to the Christian faith. I've no problem with those people. But I do take objection to those who don't know their ass from first base.
I don't have any hard numbers on this, but I'm targeted more often than a black guy driving a beat-up sedan with a broken tail-light and no license plate, and Cy's well aware of that.

Yea....personally I reserve pride or shame for things I actually do. Since where you were born wasn't something you actively choose, to me it just seems odd to be proud or ashamed of. It'd be like rolling a D20 and being proud you got a 13. Assuming its not loaded, there was really nothing you did to get the 13...so where does the pride come from?
I think a lot of people are posting what scares or angers them the most rather than what offends them.
I am offended by how it remains socially acceptable today in the United States to hate gay people openly and how terminology for gays is thrown about as insults. I will admit that I don't call people out on saying "gay/***/etc." in casual conversation if they are not someone who I know should know better because there is the tendency to assume that any man who stands up for gay people must be gay and I would rather not make myself a target for more hate than being a staunch ally can bring.
The culture is saturated with subtle approvals for anti-gay behavior that result in all kinds of problems ranging from self loathing to the murder of gays and terrorist acts like the mid-1990s Olympic Park nail-bombing.
What if I everyone walked around saying "Dude that is so ******. You are a ****** ****."

Saying that you sometimes wish people (in this case the implication is the staff) would fall down a well and get AIDS is hardly appropriate for the forum.

To all saying this, how is MTG not elitist?
Are you saying you are annoyed by the very thing that all of us on this board have in common?
Seems like an inherent tension...
when you spell a word with that many 'o's, they call that hyperbole.
IDK if what you're describing is elitism so much as it is cultural nepotism. If you work with a bunch of people who all share a common culture, and you're an outsider, then you may find yourself fighting a losing battle against people's preferences to be with others of their own culture or background. Yes, it's not fair. Don't work in those environments with the expectation of being promoted.
Sorry, lack of sleep means parts of the situation are left out.

It'd be like rolling a D20 and being proud you got a 13. Assuming its not loaded, there was really nothing you did to get the 13...so where does the pride come from?
The pride comes from actively participating in southern cultural events and things of that nature. For instance this weekend I went to a family reunion in NC and we had a pig pickin' and everyone brought southern style dishes to eat. I choose to besouthern by doing these things. You can be born in the anywhere and choose not to live in accordance with that culture's norms. I wouldn't call myself southern if I didn't at least try to follow some of the norms. So in essence it is something I chose.
Also I was wondering if you are offended by people who are patriotic toward their country or who are proud when their sports team wins because I'm confused about how far your definition of chose goes. Sports fans chose their teams but do nothing to help them win. People don't always chose what country to live in but I would find it odd if someone was offended by another persons pride for their country.
or dinosaur pirates!!! big hulking dinos with eye patches and peglegs and troll the ocean on their ships made of smaller dinosaur bones in search or treasures. I would sooo go for that. or better yet, slave dinosaurs that serve the pirates like some sick dinotopia world where people own the dinos.
Ehm... shouldn't you just have said "Hispanics who move to the US and never learn any English at all"? It's clearly what you meant, so I don't see what would have been wrong with just having said that. It's unclear whether you'd be ok with having an unexpected accident and having to move to Latin America while still holding your right to never speak Spanish ever or not. I expect the best from you, so I think you meant ANYONE and everyone^_^, just that the majority of your annoyances involve the intricacies of the increasing Hispanic population, perhaps (and to prove how the definition of racism varies from person to person, getting offended by the rewarding of multiple toungue-speaking is VERY racist to me... as racist as it gets. Doesn't mean I don't like you anymore, though:D). Also, I'm not an employer, but I'd definitely pay more to people who spoke more languages than to monolinguists. I, for one, am offended as how richer monolinguists are than polyglots.
And I used to think being a polyglot was a GOOD thing, rather than a neutral or bad one. Then again, most of us polyglots are so because of necessity and privilege, so...
I was afraid someone would take it the wrong way, not that you did 100% though. Yes, Hispanics are the majority of residents in my area living here while not speaking the language, with various Eastern Asian nationals being a very close second. I do think being able to speak multiple languages proficiently is a very respectable accomplishment, but what I'm saying is that it annoys me when I work with someone who doesn't understand what I'm saying because he/she did not learn the language before emigrating from their country. Hell I'm more than willing to meet someone halfway if they know a good portion of the language but don't know a bunch of words, I (used to) speak some Japanese, German and Russian, and can still speak Spanish so I have no problem trying to meet someone halfway, but if the only words someone knows in English are "I don't speak English" and they reside in an English speaking nation, they need to learn the language promptly. If I were to move to a nation that spoke a different language than I do, I wouldn't expect them to have subtitles in English for me, nor should they.
Let me explain an example: 2 guys I work with are from Africa - 3 if you count my supervisor - one is from Uganda and the other from the Ivory Coast I believe, I don't know where my supervisor is from. They can speak pretty good English, but still struggle with some words, and I talk and hang out with them on lunch. I have no problem with them, but one guy from south of the border (I don't know where he is from) only knows VERY limited English, and he actually expects me to speak Spanish to him, (yes he actually said something along the lines of "Lo siento, no sé Inglés, por favor, hable en español.")
People not following the basic rules of being polite... Not ignoring people, just saying so if you do not want to hang out with them, not canceling plans half an hour before they begin ()... Just common courtesy like that.
Oh, and racism isn't exactly great either.

People who use religion as a means of argument. For example, abortion is wrong because God said so. Well...it isnt exactly something I get offended at but more annoyed at.
But I do get offended whenever my friends make racist asian jokes when I am driving (being an asian and a woman driver no less). And what's worse is that only one of them knows how to drive and has a driver's license. I'm giving them a ride free of charge and they thank me by making racist jokes about my driving skills.
It's hard, because I'm a very calm and easy going guy, but a few random things really set me off - not sure they offend me, but, well...
1. Random idiots in traffic. Slow/scary people who have no clue what they're doing with a vehicle, and the imbeciles that drive ridiculously fast like they were the best pilots in the world. Traffic really sets me off sometimes, yeah.
2. My sister's selfishness/hipocrisy regarding a few things. She doesn't live with us anymore, as her college is in the country, so when she comes home EVERYTHING has to revolve around her, what we eat, the places we go to, everything. And everything that she doesn't like is crap (this has broader applications). Finally, she's studying biology, and is caught in the middle of the ''plants and animals rule, filthy humans suck'' mentality, which is just idiotic. She also is always annoying us about spending too much water and leaving the lights on, etc, but she ALWAYS does those things herself. It's like we can't do anything wrong so that she's allowed to do it herself, with minimal consequences to the world.
3. Politicals/charlatans in general, and obviously people who explore ignorant people by using faith and religion.
4. My allergy, when it sets off and I sneeze 18721921271 times the whole day. It really pisses me off.
The pride comes from actively participating in southern cultural events and things of that nature. There is a difference between. "Yay the Eagles won, I am so proud of them." and "Yay the Eagles won..we did it." The latter is like going, "My neighbor pulled a kid out of a burning building last night while I was sleeping, damn I am so proud of us."
You actually do stuff in your community and thus you have stuff to take pride in. But there are people who do absotively posolutely nothing yet walk around with that same pride. To me they are the pride equivalent of a vampire.
People that have a sense of entitlement especially the ones that think they are entitled to my tax money.
This.
It gets me really cranky everytime I hear that someone at my work gets fired and then decies to just go on EI instead of actually looking for a new job. Its abusing the system. A program made for people who are stuggling is taken advantage for unwarranted reasons. It makes me cranky

What offends me the most is when women ignore all the work that other women have done to create equality of sexes, and make offhand comments about how they don't understand why they have to put extra effort into things when they would rather just have men do it for them. It also really bothers me when women call other women derogatory names that reinforce stereotypes about women being inferior. In a more self-centered note, I hate how many people in this forum call me dude or man. I am not a man! There are women that play magic! And I work hard to be good, while still having an active non-magic social life. Okay, I'm sorry, I'm done.
The thing that offends me the most right now are mods who hand out infractions over nothing. A mod helper edited my post to use spoiler tags, and I later edited my post to make something unrelated a bit clearer or complete. Regardless of the fact that I left the mod-helper's work alone, Annorax felt the need to give me an infraction. I'd say more about it, but that would just be venting inappropriately.
