Well, it may depend on the test, I guess. I didn't study for any of my AP tests, except for AP Biology, which was only because I hadn't taken AP Biology (I had taken several more focused courses, so I needed to go over the stuff that wasn't genetics, ecology, evolution or molecular/cellular biology).
Our school forces you to take honors bio before AP bio, but I wouldn't be able to take AP physics or chem if I took two years of biology. I ended up taking the AP biology exam after honors biology with some studying.
I couldn't believe how easy it was.
My school's half-ghetto, half-decent, so they don't have the kind of resources to a) go take college courses or b) offer better ones. I'm stuck with crappy teachers reading out of an AP textbook.

In most cases, the properly motivated individual can supplement nearly every course they are taking in high school with an AP handbook. AFAIK an official AP class is not necessary to sign up to take AP tests. So if you are a hotshot in your honors English but don't want to spend an extra year in college payng for English freshman courses, by all means take the AP test.
This will not only get you a decent grade in the school classwork, but prepare you to AP-test out of virtually every core requirement of every accredited US college. That can amount to almost two years of tuition SAVED because you worked extra-hard BEFORE college. Imagine graduating at 20 instead of 22, or having the free time to consider fast-tracking into medicine, law, or engineering.
My school was one of the more progressive schools in the district, and I wish I had taken full advantage of all the AP offerings.
Just remember to know your limits. Sometimes it's worth delaying an AP test if you know you're not confident enough to get a 4 or 5. Other times you really should strive to take it the same year you cover the material, especially if it's a class you may only take once in your high school career like physics or government. Strike while it's still fresh in your mind.
I've taken the tests for AP Calc AB & BC, Ap Eng Lang & Lit, Physics B, Physics C MEch and E&M, Comparative Gov't, and US Gov't. I think that probably the roughest is Physics B, due to the variety of the subject. Anyway, it's just important to work slowly and get things done. If you rush through problems in order to finish, you won't be doing yourself any favors - You only need to get around half the test correct to get a four on most of the tests, and by rushing you're potentially screwing yourself out of questions you would know if you spent more time on them.
Also, it always benefits to guess. Always. Even though you lose quarter of a mark for a wrong answer, if you can eliminate 2 or more answer choices (which is easily done for just about every question) for each question, then statistically you're making up for it and then some. Basically, guessing on average will get you at least .25 marks extra amongst every 3 questions you guessed on.

yeah!!!! APs are over. ty everyone for making me feel stupid. i'm not going to get a 5 on any of my APs (at least i think). i took art history, calculus ab, chemistry, and laguage and composition. it doesn't make sense that so many ppl feel APs are easy. according to the collage board, about 20% of ppl are supposed to get a 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5. so it makes no sense that everyone thinks they're going to get a 5. my only suggestion is that this is internet fraud and that many of you are liars.

Or possibly you could consider the demographics which use these forums. I would guess, surmise if you will, that those who use the internet well are more intelligent than the average population. Those who play Magic also seem to be disproportionately more intelligent than the rest of the the population. In addition, it seems people who feel they did well are more likely to post than those who did badly.
All this considered, I would say I believe a majority of those who have posted in this thread. A few may be exaggerating, but such is life.
I expect a 3 or a 4. I highly doubt a 5 because I felt I did meh on the multiple choice. I nailed all but one short answer and for the essays I got answered one really well and the other i kinda bull****ted.

Last year I took AP US and got a 3 which was quite disappointing because I knew a lot about it. The DBQ on women really threw me for a loop.
This year I took AP Euro, Lang and comp, and Calc BC. I most likely got the following scores:
Euro: 4
Calc BC: 1-3 (I knew next to nothing of the subject basically slacking my way to an A- in that class idk how exactly. I thought I might get a 3 but then we went over the FRQs in class and I can remember getting very few of the points my teacher wrote. )
Lang: 5, I thought this test was sooo easy. Writing has become my best subject and it showed this year.

It's funny because innocent people that were trying to pay the bills for their families were brutally murdered.
Doesn't it cost money to call? Is it really worth it? It's not like you can do anything about your score. The best choice is simple to wait. I'm not letting the college board put their hand on my money. They claim their non-profit but I still believe they're greedy people.
Its $8 to call. $8! Thats completley worth it to have peace of mind. Plus, I am going to be gone for the next two weeks, so I probably wouldn't even get them until I got back...

Do threads in this forum ever not get hijacked by the magical invisible hand of the market guys?

I for one didn't call. Maybe it varies by course and location but I received my scores today in the mail. I know quite a few people at my school also got their scores yesterday or today.
I took an AP chem test this year... and I'm looking at Calc AB (or BC... can't remember), Physics C, Engish, and maybe Biology for enxt year. I've got no idea what I got on my chem test, and my results should take a while to get here as I'm an international student... so I don't really worry about it much.
Any advice as to preparation on the Calc. and Phys. tests?
"All these people having fun are playing for a gigantic 40000$ award, while I'm here sweating, players asking me stupid layer questions we all hate, and I'm thirsty.
I'm not calling. I'm blissful in my ignorance. I really don't care that much about what I get, because I was in most of the courses to get into good colleges, and got rejected from everywhere, so all they can accomplish is course exemptions now, which I don't really care about. I don't have my scores yet, but they should be coming soon, I hope.
@uriel: For Calc, you need to practice a ton. The free-response section requires learning for the test. Even if you know the Calculus cold, you need to know exactly what to expect or you'll do badly.
Actually, my experience with the AP Calc test was exactly the opposite. If you know calc well, the bar is low enough that even if you whiff on a couple free-response questions you can still get a five if you grasp calculus well enough to get 90+%. Basically, if math has always been easy for you, AP calc shouldn't be much of a problem. If you usually have to work hard to get good grades in math class the AP calc test will require studying and practice for a 5.
I haven't taken AP Physics yet, but from what I hear the mechanics test isn't too tough while the electromagnetism one requires a lot of studying.
this year I took the world history A.P. test as a Sophmore and I got a 4. I was kind of disapointed, because it seemed fairly easy on the multiple choice and the only explanation was I whiffed on one very confusing essay question.

Its a little less info than AP Bio I believe, however they have a full year.

I got my results today. To my surprise, I got a five on AP Euro.
5 On AP English though, wtf?
3 on English Language
2 on Music Theory
