My computer keeps freezing randomly. I feel the back of it around the fan and it doesn't seem that overheating is the problem. It doesn't freeze while I'm doing something per se, because sometimes I just leave it on the desktop and come back later to find it frozen. It started happening a while ago and I tried to play around it (hitting save every 5 minutes when typing something out on Word), but then it stopped happening for a while afterward.. and now it's starting again. Any ideas what the problem is?
What applications if any do you have running in the background?
[n00b]I don't know actually.. is there some way to check computer specs from Windows? Wait, I think I can just restart and hit F8 or F12, whatever it is. I can just ask my dad when he gets home.[/n00b]
Almost no programs are running. No icons in the corner other than AIM or MSN, I'm just using MSWord, browsing the forums (nothing else like YouTube or nothin'), browsing through pictures, and once I was playing Warcraft 3. Sometimes it happens when nothing is going on at all.
I ran Ad-Aware and extracted some tracking cookies.. that coulda been it. Thus far it hasn't been freezing for about a day and a half, but any second now it could...

I've been dicking around with Ubuntu lately, installing KDE and Xfce, but have run into a problem. I keep receiving this error message when attempting to update. I messed around with the "Software Sources" settings to no avail. What should I do?

Alright. This has been happening for about two weeks and I'm finally frustrated by it. Why are the background image(s) not loading. Also all font color changes have been disabled. (Example Image in spoiler)

What do you mean you've checked the plug-ins? Like, have you disabled them individually, uninstalled them, or what? My lame, uneducated suggestion would be to reinstall the program, but I'm sure there are better alternatives.
Hmm. This sounds far off from every body else's complicated problems, but recently my iTunes has just been deleting my entire library. Not from my HD, just from being recognized from my library. This means that I have to put it back in, and it deletes my ratings and album artwork (getting new artwork for 400 albums on dial up is a pain). Is there anything that I might be doing to cause this? I have a Dell running windows XP.

If you've been playing with those silly theming programs, sometimes stuff like this can happen. Try disabling whatever's theming your install, and then look.

Yeah, I've disabled them all, restarted and it's still like this. I'm gonna uninstall... Edit in 5-10.
EDIT: Reinstall didn't work.
Anyone know how to delete the memory-search feature? Where you go into a blank field on a page, and when you start typing, a tab appears of all the things you've previously searched for there before.
It doesn't delete with the normal clear history button, so I figure there must be another way.

Doing this and running a search for RAM I get (under Components > Display) Adapter RAM at 128mb. Is this what you're looking for? Sorry I don't know the more technical stuff.

My dad bought and installed something to increase the amount of RAM earlier today. I'll come back to the thread if the problem persists.

Got a new question - I have a samsung mp3 player, one of those little inch by 4 inch ones. I added some songs on it, but can't delete them now, they don't show up in the folder when I plug it into my comp, and the reset button doesn't nothing, any suggestions how I might get rid of these songs?

There's no way to delete them using the player itself?
My mom has an old-ish laptop which has had some troubles lately. It's been running quite slowly for a while, but recently it's been randomly shutting off. And when I say "randomly shutting off" I mean that it just stops running, even when the only application running is Disk Cleanup or something comparably inane. I suspect it's the AOL software that she's been running since the dawn of time that's eating up resources and doing it to this computer, but cannot verify whether or not this is the problem. (And yes, I've tried to convince her that it was named the worst software product of all time for a reason. She won't listen.)
Short version, I have two questions:
1. Could it be AOL which is causing this problem?
2. What should I do to fix this problem?

Could be. Could also just be windows in general. Over time the registry gets clogged up. There could also be a bunch of spyware on there.
Hmm. I found that the program Spy Sweeper seems to, about three times a day, put an invisible window over everything that makes everything unclickable for between five seconds to three minutes.
By the by, I've had this issue with Windows Automatic Updates (no Windows cracks, please), where I will get the "Automatic Updates had to close" window. Not once, but about 10 times, about five seconds after I closed the previous one. This sometimes happens up to 10 times a day. Any thoughts?
Silly question probably, but I need to get some Hi-res pictures to a word document (3ish of them) and only have MS Paint to do said task.
Is there any way I can do this as they are too big to view in one screen on paint and you can't drag the "copy" box from right to left across screens, only up and down.
Thanks in advance. A quick answer would be VERY helpful cause this is for work.
Thanks
In MSWord's Menu bar: Insert > Picture > From File
That'll give you a browse box. From there locate the file and resize it as needed via the edges of the picture.

I'd chalk this up to lovely DLL-hell.
Basically, said app is looking to preload a DLL that doesn't exist or has been moved, and it can't so it just crashes.
I'd google for user's with similar problems and there's a good chance it's as simple as re-downloading a DLL file and moving it to the right folder.

Yeah, but it's annoying as hell on sites that have background images and then images that aren't part of the background but blend in with it.
@BB: I had windowblinds a while ago but I disabled it before this problem started happening and don't have any other theming programs.
