Saying that scum can jump on tom because it is an excuse does not imply that tom is town and I don't understand how you would get to that answer yourself.
You don't understand hwo someone could think that if scum are happy to jump on someone, that someone is more likely to be town than not?
Saying that scum are more happy to jump on a wagon as a general statement does not imply anything. If before this post I was strongly saying tom was town and people wanted to say I have TMI there that is fine. But I have never called him town once. So the whole entire idea that I was trying to get ahead and townread tom is out of the question because I was never townreading him to begin with.
WON'T VOTE:
'Cause townread: font, Rodemy
'Cause townlean: kpaca, Lagoon (very shaky), Jackrito (it's weird I don't have a strong townread on him yet)
'Cause Claimed 3rder/No Flip: Axelrod, Lastwhisper (would probably be strongly considering voting here otherwise)
'Cause Wanna see more of: Ampharos, Konan, TheRealStinkyJoeTerry 'Cause: tomsloger, TerRaine, Zionite
NO STRONG OPINION ON VOTING/WILL IF NEEDED:
Fuwa, xX_WakeMeUp1337_Xx, Poison Chan
WILLING TO VOTE:
Killjoy, Tubba Fett, ZeDorkSlipeur
Sounds about right.
Man I really hope I'm not wrong on Rodemy. It'd be a huge bummer if the first time I actually convince a player to back off via long post it turns out that they were scum and knew all along.
sloth, what keeps zionite out of your middle tier?
I can't speak for other people, but when you entertain certain scenarios they come with certain implications. Like assuming scum would be hiding in the people voting tom. Why would they do that unless tom is town?
It's like defending someone while also being vocal about your lack of townread on them. It looks like you're saying one thing but doing something else.
Anyway back to the game: Nothing I say implies Tom is town. In fact I was trying to say Tom is nullest of nulls because of his gif posting. Saying that scum can jump on tom because it is an excuse does not imply that tom is town and I don't understand how you would get to that answer yourself. The whole base of the idea that I am also scum because I wanted to get the jump on a tom townread is...interesting? Sure in theory it is a good idea to get a jump on a popular or influential player but tom isn't that. There's no way I can believe that someone thought the idea that went through my head as scum is trying to get a headstart on townreading tom of all players here.
Not popular? You're going to break tom's heart.
I can talk for a little bit.
The idea is, if you think tom is null, then why do you want to stop pressure on him? Especially when you weren't even fully caught up, and couldn't have even known if the pressure had fallen off. So why try to convince Tubba to back off then? Well, I don't really see a town thought process. You could have theoretically been annoyed with the tunneling on tom, like a lot of people, but nothing you said actually indicated that kind of annoyance. And if your problem was that it was annoying, well, why talk to Tubba about it instead of pursuing something else?
At the same time, you seemed to have believed that looking at people voting on tom (if he's town) could have been a good place to start to scumhunt. This could have served as a jumping point into the game for you, and let you real time some reads with people. But you didn't do that. Instead, you outlined the thought process (i.e. this is how and why I would look for scum in the people pressuring tom), thus explaining to scum how you intend to catch them /before/ you even let them do the things you'd want to read them on. Like, you're saying "this is how I would scumhunt" instead of actually scumhunting, and telling scum how to not get caught by you at the same time.
It's just a totally bizarre way to approach the game as town, and makes more sense for you as scum to be trying to define your process and scrounging for some sort of content.
Lastly, the pretty obvious conclusion to "hey, I'm actually townreading everyone voting tom, except maybe Tubba" is "maybe Tom is mafia, and that's why there's no mafia voting him." But you never actually made that connection or even seemed to think about it? That backs up the idea of you tmiing Tom as town.
Amy, if you know Konan, I'd be happy to talk about her(?) with you and figure out if this is alignment indicative. I'm at a pretty strong d1 scumread here (like 65/70%, compared to a baseline 25%), but I'm up for being talked out of it if you think I'm misinterpreting her.
I'd be more inclined to believe you had you taken it a step further and proposed that either tom is town and scum are taking advantage of the criticism against his gimmick, or tom is scum and his buddies don't want to be tied to him.
Pointing out scum could be pushing tom without having a read on tom is ???
claire, do you think that tom's scumbuddies would have jumped on his wagon if he were scum, or do you think they'd be more likely to defend him/push back? or do you think they'd stay away entirely?

i know her as a person, but not as a mafia player, so that's not super useful to the current situation lol
claire, do you think that tom's scumbuddies would have jumped on his wagon if he were scum, or do you think they'd be more likely to defend him/push back? or do you think they'd stay away entirely?
This is what I've been trying to mull over without committing to a read on it. Because the only person who was voting tom at the time that I was scumreading is tuba. So that brings into question: A) is tom town while scum are staying off the wagon to get credit if the lynch gets though. B) Is he scum where his partners aren't voting him? C) Or is he scum where his partners are voting him. At the moment, I lean C or A. But that requires more posts from tom for me to get the answer.
jack, what specifically about sloth's pushes would you describe as "aggro"?
because i'm in his iso and i was about to call him out for being too reasonable/agreeable/passive/whatever
I would say recently he is a lot more like that, aggressive is maybe too strong of a word. My issue was the way he handed Terry and Rod did not feel to me town, it felt more like a shark waiting for something to jump on. It felt too sudden to me at least, I may need to relook at it because people I'm wrong here.

i'm pretty sure the implication that your (apparent) implicit assumption of tom's alignment was indicative of TMI
ftr i currently have no stance on whether or not that's true and need to reread the sequence in question
Did I not say the same thing to a lesser degree eariler, I'm sure someone else did as well. I don't know Tom is town but when you see people jump on him for weird reasons in my view you see them as town and the other people more scummy. So I personally have no issue with what Kanon did here, how much pressure she got though I do. This game feels so weird wagons are just building so fast and off small things.

Damn, rip.
Well, your take is still welcome.
@Konan, I hope not coming across as too strong here. Please let me know if I go over the line.
I understand that certain posts can come with undertones to them but when I post a reads list a few posts before that has tom in null I feel like that should be fairly obvious on where my current stance on him is. I said scum are more likely to jump on tom and I am townreading most of the wagon. Don't you think that is odd? Let us discuss this? This is what I am going for and yet people magically took this as me calling tom town and I am just sitting here behind my screen confused.
As someone who votes on assumptions of TMI slips far too much they are rarely true, even though I would like them to be true more. So I stop mislynching people and looking like a dumb ass.
i guess the one insight i can offer is that i know claire enjoys playing scum, possibly moreso than playing town
so that's potentially useful
This isn't true anymore. It used to be. But not anymore. I don't know how this would be on other sites but I started finding scum too easy and liked being town more.
@Ful I don't think you're coming on too hard at all and I personally like that we're having this back and forth. I will reply to your wall in about an hour. I am playing a few games with my friend and your wall takes more effort than the others to reply too.

what do you think the motivation would be behind C?
and did you have this in mind when you made your initial post to tubba, or had you yet to really take note of who specifically was pushing tom?
i think the main issue is that your post to tubba reads more as chastisement than any sort of push or similar effort to discern his alignment. the point that fonti's trying to make, i think, is that it's odd to chastise people for pressuring tom before fully considering what people pressuring tom could potentially mean.

oh god i have to boycott games with you until one of us is dead or it's gonna be super awk
anyways, i reread sloth's iso today. not in a ton of detail but i wouldn't describe it as a skim, either
i think the main issue i have is that there's an overall lack of fire. the most conviction i feel from him is when he throws that wall about rodemy at rodemy; everything else feels vaguely like he's giving commentary, but i don't really feel that he's really attempting to put forward his thoughts at all. i think villagers tend to either press people they're scumreading for more information or to bounce their reads off of other players to sanity test themselves, and i see a lack of either out of sloth. it feels like he's playing much more REactively than PROactively
also like half his postcount is *****posts and i think that was misleading me for a bit lol
i don't know sloth's meta, per se, but i'd expect a bit more out of him as a villager. he slides down my list. which i should actually organize somewhere other than my head at some point hrm
jack, what specifically about sloth's pushes would you describe as "aggro"?

i think there's been enough "wagoning for the sake of having wagons" that i'm willing to chalk it up to site culture? idk though
point on sloth is good, point on konan is noted. i think i'm gonna need to interact with her more before i nail down a read there
your guess was desperado varient? Which means you think he’s town. Desporado could never be a scum ability due to the fact they know who is town. And if you try and tack on “oh he has to shoot neutral: you didn’t mention that at ALL. Just an alignment.
Yet you are voting him???
oooo this called for the dusty ole FOS ZDS
...Good lord.
Nvm, I was wrong. Rod's town.
UNVOTE
I'll talk more with you in a bit, Rod. I'm town too, so calm down.
This is the Sloth post that has pinged me the most. I'm not sure why, just thought I'd share it.
Anyway, I'm off for the rest of the day.
It's my dog's adoptaversary and I'm baking him a cake and taking him out!
My reads haven't changed too much from what I've said 596 and 605.
Kind of like that Axel admits to being unmotivated but ~NAI I think?
Ter and others have a point in that this might just be town Rod after all. I guess I'll see if anything else catches my attention once he calms down - in that way, me leaving is probably a good thing to get him there.
Alright, see you all later!
Maybe it's because it seems like it was such an overreaction when Sloth was already coming around on Rod being town like 200 posts before. And that post from Rod was part of a trend of Rod aggressively jumping after every remotely scummy thing, not a new mind-blowing thing.
A valid point font. SLOTH when you deign is with your presence address this point. What was it in tha particular post that just seemed so revealing to her that reaction
I'm also a little spooked by Sloth having such a strong townread on me. There's an argument to be made that I was easier to read that normal at the beginning of the game due to the health issues, and sloth would have been hyper aware of that because he was also watching my thought process in a hydra ish game at the same time. But I've also, uh, literally just fooled him and I kind of expected him to be more concerned about it going into this game.
Arguably, he would know that I would be expecting him to be more cautious about townreading me, and would try to play into that as scum, so him not doing is a sign that he is in fact town, but that's weak and I probably shouldn't have even taken the time to type it out.

some notable points i want to talk about on this list:
the null-trending down section is larger than i usually have it. i don't know if this is a good thing or not. probably yes, given the game size?
lagoon used to be higher on this list but continues to slide because i keep almost forgetting he exists when it comes time to sort my reads out, and that concerns me. when he's in the thread and posting i feel good about the things he says, but...
terraine slides down a tier due to a pernicious voice in the back of my head that says my earlier read on her may have been too easy, and that tom has a point about her reads being fairly surface save for her setup gaming. still, i think her overall attitude and approach are more likely town than not
biggest relocation on this list is probably sloth, for previously stated reasons
i'm intentionally withholding a read on konan until i'm able to further interact with her
fuwa's probably posted enough that i could make a read on her if i tried, but i haven't tried yet lol. might be homework for tonight
Anyway, I'm off for the rest of the day.

this take. i like this take. does make the "...good lord, nevermind, rod's town" feel a bit theatrical and played up

Please believe me when I say this is 100% sincere with no snark whatsoever, but that sounds like a you-problem? Extend the but a bit, if you can, because I'm curious what this means.

i guess if i were to psychoanalyze myself it would imply that your presence isn't... memorable to me. your posts aren't sticking in my brain. object permanence fails me.
probably a sign that i need to reread you at some point. could entirely be a me-problem, and i think you feel different enough from the MC game we played that i'm willing to give you the benefit of the doubt on it, but i didn't feel comfortable not bringing it up

I gets it.
Not the first time someone has said my content is forgettable, but it doesn't hurt any less.
@Amy
my process might be a little weird, but I wouldn't put Killjoy/Tubba on my won't lynch list, if I didn't think they were over 80% in terms of likeliness to flip town
meta is a thing, and probably weak to a lot of people, but meh
still don't understand why Kpaca is so high for you people
I do not want to have to repeat an old game to get pressure on that slot
I am keeping my vote here, regardless of w/e backlash he or anyone else brings my way
@lagoon
its definitely a "you" problem, since you already stated you were going to post less, and that's exactly what you have been doing
Konan has a point regardless of his alignment, its hard to differentiate a wolf play, from someone actually doing it because they know their posting style is wolf-sided as town. Its also not easy what so ever to not respond to literally everything, given I am not even trying, and I am still almost top posting. and w/e content we do get from you is pretty minuscule in what it brings to the game.
I still think you have already managed to pass the threshold in regards to your posting volume as wolf, if that means anything
your content still leaves a lot to be desired

I disagree. Lowering the quantity of posts should have nothing to do with the quality, at least in my mind.
Plus I have a hard time not LAMIST posting if I don't keep a foot on the brake.
Was also having issues with mobile posting, but I fixed it so I'll probably end up posting more anyways.
I’m eating dinner so not inclined to go back and look for the exact post but I’m 95% sure I did say that was a quick read list so...yea I’d fully admit it was surface level
claire how has my play been different from what you expected? I'm not even sure this question is particularly game relevant but I've been thinking about it and I'm curious lol
Fuls case will be in bold my response normal like this let us begin:
The idea is, if you think tom is null, then why do you want to stop pressure on him? Especially when you weren't even fully caught up, and couldn't have even known if the pressure had fallen off. So why try to convince Tubba to back off then? You're misunderstanding. I was trying to stop pressure on tom and tried to get tubba to back off yes, but it wasn't all pressure. I was trying to get people to not vote tom because of his gif posting/posting restriction gambit not all pressure entirely. Because tom doing that is NAI and a useless way to push the slot so I wanted to shut it down before it began/kept going. Because town or scum toms defense would probably be the same.
This doesn't work because the thing that I would need to catch them on stop. My point was that scum would jump on town for the posting gambit. However, I saw he stopped so I saw no reason to continue or wait. Sure, in theory you could wait and see if people kept pushing it after tom stopped, but I just didn't see a reason to really do that instead of shutting down the topic of conversation and trying to get people to read tom normally.
Lastly, the pretty obvious conclusion to "hey, I'm actually townreading everyone voting tom, except maybe Tubba" is "maybe Tom is mafia, and that's why there's no mafia voting him." But you never actually made that connection or even seemed to think about it? No, I did think about this. At least, not right away but it did run through my mind. I was wondering what situation made the most sense considering I feel like scum would more than likely jump on tom and I didn't feel the need to commit on a read just yet and wait for tom to post more even if I did have a few outcomes going through my head.
claire how has my play been different from what you expected? I'm not even sure this question is particularly game relevant but I've been thinking about it and I'm curious lol
I expected you to be a bit more laid back/care a little less than you appear to be. So it was a bit of a surprise but without playing with you I have nothing to go on if this surprise is Ai or not.

i guess that makes sense given who i am as a person but that doesn't really track with me as a mafia player. i get invested in these things, roll stuff around in my head a lot. wouldn't play if i didn't care
will say that by my standards i HAVE been laid-back this game lol
I like Lagoon, don’t like last, but adjusting for how I never like last hes probably neutral right now.
Would still lynch anyone who’s alignment won’t show up.
@Axelrod: wanna trade roles
If anyone can grand the dark mark, I would be very grateful
the dark Mark HELPS you? Weird.
Started to reread and i am curious, was someone figuring what's about with this dark mark?
I will catch up slow, so don't ask about reads, when i will have them i will post them

i assumed she meant "reread" as in "catching up"
if it IS legitimately her second read then uhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Something had happened to the night. The star-strewn indigo sky was suddenly pitch-black and lightless — the stars, the moon, the misty streetlamps [...] had vanished. The distant grumble of cars and the whisper of trees had gone. The balmy evening was suddenly piercingly, bitingly cold. They were surrounded by total, impenetrable, silent darkness, as though some giant hand had dropped a thick, icy mantle [...], blinding them.

Lools like you had time to shade me but you didn't have time to think a little or to answer at my question.
It's like defending someone while also being vocal about your lack of townread on them. It looks like you're saying one thing but doing something else.

I can talk for a little bit.

It's just a totally bizarre way to approach the game as town, and makes more sense for you as scum to be trying to define your process and scrounging for some sort of content.
Lastly, the pretty obvious conclusion to "hey, I'm actually townreading everyone voting tom, except maybe Tubba" is "maybe Tom is mafia, and that's why there's no mafia voting him." I don't know Tom is town but when you see people jump on him for weird reasons in my view you see them as town and the other people more scummy. So I personally have no issue with what Kanon did here, how much pressure she got though I do. This game feels so weird wagons are just building so fast and off small things.
Damn, rip.
Well, your take is still welcome.
@Konan, I hope not coming across as too strong here. Please let me know if I go over the line.
so that's potentially useful
@Ful I don't think you're coming on too hard at all and I personally like that we're having this back and forth. I will reply to your wall in about an hour. I am playing a few games with my friend and your wall takes more effort than the others to reply too.
and did you have this in mind when you made your initial post to tubba, or had you yet to really take note of who specifically was pushing tom?
i think the main issue is that your post to tubba reads more as chastisement than any sort of push or similar effort to discern his alignment. the point that fonti's trying to make, i think, is that it's odd to chastise people for pressuring tom before fully considering what people pressuring tom could potentially mean.
i think the main issue i have is that there's an overall lack of fire. the most conviction i feel from him is when he throws that wall about rodemy at rodemy; everything else feels vaguely like he's giving commentary, but i don't really feel that he's really attempting to put forward his thoughts at all. i think villagers tend to either press people they're scumreading for more information or to bounce their reads off of other players to sanity test themselves, and i see a lack of either out of sloth. it feels like he's playing much more REactively than PROactively
also like half his postcount is *****posts and i think that was misleading me for a bit lol
i don't know sloth's meta, per se, but i'd expect a bit more out of him as a villager. he slides down my list. which i should actually organize somewhere other than my head at some point hrm
point on sloth is good, point on konan is noted. i think i'm gonna need to interact with her more before i nail down a read there
This is the Sloth post that has pinged me the most. I'm not sure why, just thought I'd share it.
I lie in bed at night thinking about this post.
Maybe it's because it seems like it was such an overreaction when Sloth was already coming around on Rod being town like 200 posts before. And that post from Rod was part of a trend of Rod aggressively jumping after every remotely scummy thing, not a new mind-blowing thing.
Arguably, he would know that I would be expecting him to be more cautious about townreading me, and would try to play into that as scum, so him not doing is a sign that he is in fact town, but that's weak and I probably shouldn't have even taken the time to type it out.
Anyway.
I do not like this.

some notable points i want to talk about on this list:
the null-trending down section is larger than i usually have it. i don't know if this is a good thing or not. probably yes, given the game size?
lagoon used to be higher on this list but continues to slide because i keep almost forgetting he exists when it comes time to sort my reads out, and that concerns me. when he's in the thread and posting i feel good about the things he says, but...
terraine slides down a tier due to a pernicious voice in the back of my head that says my earlier read on her may have been too easy, and that tom has a point about her reads being fairly surface save for her setup gaming. still, i think her overall attitude and approach are more likely town than not
biggest relocation on this list is probably sloth, for previously stated reasons
i'm intentionally withholding a read on konan until i'm able to further interact with her
fuwa's probably posted enough that i could make a read on her if i tried, but i haven't tried yet lol. might be homework for tonight
science
probably a sign that i need to reread you at some point. could entirely be a me-problem, and i think you feel different enough from the MC game we played that i'm willing to give you the benefit of the doubt on it, but i didn't feel comfortable not bringing it up
But in like, bad ways.
For some reason Konan occupies a similar ~feeling~ spot in my brain to when I was interacting with gwen on MC.
Not the first time someone has said my content is forgettable, but it doesn't hurt any less.
my process might be a little weird, but I wouldn't put Killjoy/Tubba on my won't lynch list, if I didn't think they were over 80% in terms of likeliness to flip town
meta is a thing, and probably weak to a lot of people, but meh
still don't understand why Kpaca is so high for you people
I do not want to have to repeat an old game to get pressure on that slot
I am keeping my vote here, regardless of w/e backlash he or anyone else brings my way
@lagoon
its definitely a "you" problem, since you already stated you were going to post less, and that's exactly what you have been doing
Konan has a point regardless of his alignment, its hard to differentiate a wolf play, from someone actually doing it because they know their posting style is wolf-sided as town. Its also not easy what so ever to not respond to literally everything, given I am not even trying, and I am still almost top posting. and w/e content we do get from you is pretty minuscule in what it brings to the game.
your content still leaves a lot to be desired
Plus I have a hard time not LAMIST posting if I don't keep a foot on the brake.
Was also having issues with mobile posting, but I fixed it so I'll probably end up posting more anyways.
I was wondering what situation made the most sense considering I feel like scum would more than likely jump on tom and I didn't feel the need to commit on a read just yet and wait for tom to post more even if I did have a few outcomes going through my head.
will say that by my standards i HAVE been laid-back this game lol
Started to reread and i am curious, was someone figuring what's about with this dark mark?
I will catch up slow, so don't ask about reads, when i will have them i will post them
...you’re on a second read and you missed this whole convo and everyone bringing it up again?
Sorry guys and gals. Much love.
if it IS legitimately her second read then uhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
