"I rest only at night, and even then they play on."
"What would happen if you stopped?"
"See for yourself" roared Chroma, and he raised both hands high over his head.
"Remember, remember, the fifth of November," a voice called back from the distance, and a loud explosion was heard by all.
As Chroma lowered his arms, restoring color to the world, he slumped down, never to rise again.

"All I meant was that perhaps it isn't too important."
"Of course it's not important," he snarled angrily. "I wouldn't have done it if I thought it was important." And now, as he turned to face them, he didn't seem quite so pleasant.
"Then why bother?"
"Because, my young friends," he muttered sourly, "what could be more important than doing unimportant things? If you stop to do enough of them, you'll never get to where you're going." He punctuated his last remark with a villainous laugh.
"Then you must—"
"Quite correct!" he shrieked triumphantly. "I am the Terrible Trivium, demon of petty tasks and worthless jobs, ogre of wasted effort, and monster of habit."
"Don't try anything," he ordered, with a menacing sweep of his arm, "for there's so very much to do, and we still have so much time left to go on this work."
As he spoke, he tiptoed slowly toward them with his arms outstretched and continued to whisper in a soft, deceitful voice, "Now do come and stay with me. We'll have so much fun together. There are things to fill and things to empty, things to take a way and things to bring back, things to pick up and things to put down, and besides all that—"
They were all transfixed by the Trivium's soothing voice, but just as he was about to clutch them in his well-manicured fingers a voice cried out, "No more of that!"
They jumped away, and Trivium tumbled to the ground. Transfixed by the dirt on his clothing, he started picking it away speck by speck. He was so focused on this, he did not notice when the noose was put around his neck to end his evil ways.

Cringing with fear, the monsters of Ignorance turned in flight and, with anguished cries too horrible ever to forget, returned to the damp, dark places from which they came.
Cheer after cheer filled the air, and even the bug seemed a bit embarrassed at having so much attention paid to him.
Swift horsemen carried the news to every corner of the kingdom, and, as the parade slowly wound its way through the countryside, crowds of people gathered to cheer it along. Garlands of flowers hung from every house and shop and carpeted the streets. Even the air shimmered with excitement, and shutters closed for many years were thrown open to let the brilliant sunlight shine where it hadn't shone in so long.
As the cheering continued, Rhyme leaned forward and touched Milo DR DISCHORD and Chroma gently on the arm.
"They're shouting for you," she said with a smile.
"But I could never have done it," they objected, "without everyone else's help."
"That may be true," said Reason gravely, "but you had the courage to try; and what you can do is often simply a matter of what you will do."
Milo DR DISCHORD and Chroma walked sadly to the window and squeezed themselves into the corners of the large armchair. They felt very lonely and desolate as their thoughts turned far away—to the foolish, lovable bug; to the comforting assurance of Tock, standing next to him; to the erratic, excitable DYNNE; to little Alec, who, he hoped, would someday reach the ground; to Rhyme and Reason, without whom Wisdom withered; and to the many, many others they would remember always.
And yet, even as they thought of all these things, they noticed somehow that the sky was a lovely shade of blue and that one cloud had the shape of a sailing ship. The tips of the trees held pale, young buds and the leaves were a rich deep green. Outside the window, there was so much to see, and hear, and touch—walks to take, hills to climb, caterpillars to watch as they strolled through the garden. There were voices to hear and conversations to listen to in wonder, and the special smell of each day.
And, in the very room in which they sat, there were books that could take you anywhere, and things to invent, and make, and build, and break, and all the puzzle and excitement of everything he didn't know—music to play, songs to sing, and worlds to imagine and then someday make real. Their thoughts darted eagerly about as everything looked new—and worth trying.
"Well, I would like to make another trip," they said, jumping to their feet; "but I really don't know when I'll have the time. There's just so much to do right here."
The Demons have been defeated. Town has won.
You have now completed your trip, courtesy of the Phantom Tollbooth. We trust that everything has been satisfactory, and hope you understand why we had to come and collect it. You see, there are so many other people waiting to use it, too.
It's true that there are many lands you've still to visit (some of which are not even on the map) and wonderful things to see (that no one has yet imagined), but we're quite sure that if you really want to, you'll find a way to reach them all by yourself.
Yeah, they gave you a very tight window. I'm glad my Vez/Worst reads were spot on early. At the end of the day, I feel like I got lynched for just being wrong on Day 1, but so it goes.

I have a lot to talk about this game. Not sure if I'll finished.
First I was apologize to Manasi for bringing up the council. I got a little heated and shouldn't have done that.
Next, I'm sorry to mikey and albertino. On a reread mikey seemed pretty townie except the unexplained reads thing. Albertino replaced in a hard position and he fought valiantly against his lynch. I was just too convinced he had to be scum and I semicleared all the other players in my mind.

Fun game! I didn't play very well but I got carried which is what I do best.
Should have fought harder to not let albertino get lynched. Manasi's shot should have cleared him. Lynching me plus KA would have been slightly more optimal but a win is a win!
Kami, really nicely done fighting til the last moment. you played a really solid scumgame and even though we had 3 semicleared townies in Mylo I was still really anxious.
Town was fantastic too. Tom RE Vez were teh greatestest.
I really enjoyed towning with you btw Grape.
I want to congratulate KamikazeArchon for his spectacular play this game. There were three separate times where I was reading a KA post and it was mimicking the exact same thought process I had while I read those post. Sometimes he used even the words I used in my head.
It's astounding that anyone can play at such a level. I was considering lynching tom and the worst in LyLo. Mind you, I arrived pretty quickly at the conclusion that it's a horrible idea, but just the fact that I was considering the possibility speaks to KA's incredible posting.
That big re-read post was legitimately incredible. I left the party I was in for a few minutes just to be absorbed by the post. Like if KA weren't scum that would be top town play.
Anyway incredible game. The setup was very fun, maybe a bit in favour of town, but we somehow high-rolled all the good effects on both worst's and my role while also nailing two scum in a row. Scum should have received something a bit more powerful, but it didn't really matter.
Thanks a lot for modding and making the setup. I will remember this game very fondly.

Thanks The Worst! I really enjoyed swooping in and towning it up this game. At the point I entered the game was almost wrapped up and it was a really fun thread to come into. Attempting to protect Albertino was very satisfying even if I was super sloppy in my game understanding and wasted a ton of people's energy with my bad tom tunnel.
I feel this was a pretty good success. *Pats self on back*
Everyone has access to the Discord (if anyone else would like it, go here and DM me when you're in the server).
I loved this book as a kid, and my love for it still carries through to the present day. I was first considering doing a setup based on another one of my favorite books, but that may come later; it was harder to flavor-justify.
Some notes:
KA's role was scummier than ideal. And we didn't catch the Trivium + Chroma interaction in pre-game.
tomsloger getting Dischord and Dynne was, in fact, random.org having an even better sense of humor than I do.
I don't always put post restrictions into my games, but this game had some leeway to do a few fun little minigames and the like, which I always enjoy doing in any game design. (More than other players enjoy those, probably, unfortunately.)
I HATE nighttalk usually. I think it's actively detrimental to the game if the players don't take a break. Tom's ability was a shout-out to that in part as a way to make it work. I think that worked out okay, though I did get this message:
Quote from vezok »
Osie I gotta to talk to someone or I'm going mad.
This is bar none the most infuriating ability I've ever seen in my life. I just got to watch scum worst tarnish my name when I can't even defend myself or respond. I hate it so freaking much. I wish I had a vig shot to shoot tom and make him stop using his ability.
For future games here with night chats, I'll probably aim for 48 hour night phases, 24 hours of which are action submission, the other 24 hours of which are action handling or effects. Fairer to temporary neighbours and the like. GJ got screwed over by that and I felt really bad about it.
Shadow still reads all my thread titles.
RE or tomsloger for TOWN MVP. RE may have gotten immensely lucky on the tracking of Cantrip, but she also just played pretty well. I was expecting Tom to ham it up even more given the role that he got placed with, but I think if anything he took the rest of the game more seriously due to it, which was great to see. (Maybe that's all in my head, though.)
KamikazeArchon for SCUM MVP of course (though a shout-out to Cantripmancer for playing really well too). Outside of the vezok push at the end, I was very impressed with Kami's play throughout the game; I think he legitimately had a chance there at the end.
Dias was the only player during day 3 that openly said Kami could be scum.
Proph was definitely correct about the Chroma and Dodecahedron roles being a bit stronger for town than they should have been. I think a similar role should have existed on scum, and likely a nerf at least on Dodecahedron, if not also on Chroma.
One other thing: I'm not necessarily super bothered about this, but I want to categorically say (and I'm sure this will come back to bite me later) that I do my best to never lie to the players as the mod, even in a setup with the most bastardy of roles. If that's going to happen, I'll say so in the OP, but it's not likely to ever happen.
Dias and the worst both made comments of that sort. The worst's was about ninjas, which I'll specifically address since I'm proud of this construction that I've started using in games with Ninjas, Godfathers, and the like:
On Investigative Roles -
You know that at least one role may exist which may show a false result to this ability and the player(s) with said role(s) know(s) that at least one role may exist that may receive a false result from their ability or abilities.
and on False Result Roles -
You know that at least one role may exist that may receive a false result from this ability and the player(s) with said role(s) know(s) that at least one role may exist which may show a false result to their ability or abilities.
Pretty much all the time in my games, while I may make mistakes here and there, I'm going to be careful to be honest.
Anyways.
I think both teams played a pretty good game overall here, and I was very happy to host this. I'll probably be taking a little break from hosting to focus on real life, on reviewing, and possibly on playing a couple games. Good to pause things on a high.
I kinda feel like your Tom tunnel was a bold reality check. like I was thinking some of the stuff you said, just put it aside as pretty unlikely, but it was really valuable having someone actually going through the motions of fleshing it out y'know?
@Vez, I was surprised nothing came up about the night talk with Tom actually. I felt like I was so indignantly right that phase but KA swung me the other way and I really liked the way you guys were in sync for t/t. it was a really strange situation.
I'm glad you got to flip me at endgame in a abstract way

First I was apologize to Manasi for bringing up the council. I got a little heated and shouldn't have done that.
Next, I'm sorry to mikey and albertino. On a reread mikey seemed pretty townie except the unexplained reads thing. Albertino replaced in a hard position and he fought valiantly against his lynch. I was just too convinced he had to be scum and I semicleared all the other players in my mind.
Thanks to DNC at Heroes of the plane studios for this awesome sig and SGT_Chubbz for the awesome avy.

Sorry Dan for the tunnel/lynch. That + not tracking Kami was a blemish in a rather good game. Should have done those meta dives on you + Kami....

This game was a lot of fun. I was surprised that I actually had any chance to win at the end, given the back-to-back scum deaths to open.
Everyone has access to the Discord (if anyone else would like it, go here and DM me when you're in the server).
I loved this book as a kid, and my love for it still carries through to the present day. I was first considering doing a setup based on another one of my favorite books, but that may come later; it was harder to flavor-justify.
Some notes:
Anyways.
I think both teams played a pretty good game overall here, and I was very happy to host this. I'll probably be taking a little break from hosting to focus on real life, on reviewing, and possibly on playing a couple games. Good to pause things on a high.
I'm glad you got to flip me at endgame in a abstract way
I think you read towny in the end
it was just the most probable solve given mechanics and the fact everyone read towny
