As of #1241, Roz_the_eevee has been lynched. It is now twilight and you may continue posting until the lynch scene.
For future reference Wheat_Grinder, votes require a space between the colon and the target, but your vote is counted at this stage because the intent is clear (and LW's vote to 6 was enough to lynch given Nancy's non-voting).
well lissa I am hoping that this was right. i'm sorry, it's not that i don't trust your read, i just really had no time to think about it much and i wasn't seeing it.
also Wisp, sorry, we will have time to talk tomorrow. but I had to say what I was thinking. I will check out your new leanlist? Maybe the one I read was outdated
well lissa I am hoping that this was right. i'm sorry, it's not that i don't trust your read, i just really had no time to think about it much and i wasn't seeing it.
yeah that's fair
i also hope it was right
i'm not really sure how i feel about this lynch in its own right but we'll see
Gemma's entire thing over the past 8 or so pages has been having huge huge amounts of doubt over both Shadow and Reg but then ultimately townreading Reg and calling him a "stake the game" read, and continuing to debate Shadow over and over in her mind
So yeh, I do think Gemma’s case is made by scum. I think Shadow is buddy #1, and Regfan might be #2.
WHAT. Gemma scum with shadow and regfan? are you kidding me?
yeeeaaah
there was a really weird earlygame dynamic where like rhand/lw/wheat all had pretty similar strong reads in that vein for reasons i didn't and still don't understand
Gemma's entire thing over the past 8 or so pages has been having huge huge amounts of doubt over both Shadow and Reg but then ultimately townreading Reg and calling him a "stake the game" read, and continuing to debate Shadow over and over in her mind
i should probably make clear that post was a while ago

like week+
i'm glad you clarified because i was about to be like "why did you say yeaahhhhhhh when my post was actually factually incorrect"
well idk, maybe gemma was like that with them earlier too. i'll read overnight so i can, like, actually know these things lol
i dont think it was weird on that level at the time, just weird on the level of it feeling like they all had the same semitinfoily - idk that i can really call it tinfoily at that point itg but i think what i'm trying to communicate should make some level of sense if you look at it - this paranoid gamepicture

they were weird reads at the time just for different reasons
not gonna lie I'm really glad we didn't lynch shadow. i think he would've flipped v and i'd have been pissed off
i know its silly to be attached to reads i made with like no time to make them and I should really try to start fresh overnight, but still >_> i'm really sure about shadow and gemma being town
The frank and open discussion rapidly disintegrates into a maelstrom of shouting. Accusations of treason fly thick and fast, mingled with more accurate allegations of incompetence and self-serving.
The whirl centres on Roz_the_eevee, who seems to attempt to ride out the storm, embracing the chaos and seeming to take confidence from it.
Too much confidence.
"Are you genuinely suggesting that the spymaster and chief of secret police himself might be attempting to undermine and manipulate us?"
Eyes swivel. This is exactly what they are suggesting.
"Now, gentlemen, comrades, just because I happen to operate in the shadows doesn't mean it's not all for the good of the party and out (glorious, recently departed) leader?"
But they don't seem to be listening. In eerie echo, they real off a list of crimes one at a time
"Secret murders without trial"
"Assassinating innocents to further your agenda"
"Treachery against the Soviet Union"
"Giving help to foreign powers"
"Sexual deviancy"
"Bourgeois immorality"
Still reeling off lists of real and imagined crimes against the Party and the People, the committee close around Roz_the_eevee. He struggles, but cannot fight so many determined hands.
Roz_the_Eevee has been lynched. He was Lavrentiy Beria - Head of NKVD Security Forces, Vanilla Town.

Marshall of the Soviet Union and long-serving chief of the NKVD (effectively the secret police), you have overseen an unimaginable amount of atrocity and death - all for the good of the Party of course. Compared to Himmler, you were even given responsibility of overseeing the Soviet atomic bomb project.
Your position of unique power and influence and the legion of men under your command has left you strong stead following the (obviously tragic) death of the beloved Party Chairman. However, another conspiracy appears to have started first, and you lack the support to oppose it alone. By rooting it out alongside loyal party members, perhaps you can also work out who will be loyal to your cause when your turn comes.
It is now Night 1, which will end in 72 hours. Please do not post in thread. You may continue to talk in your team chats.
The newspapers are conspicuously void of any mentioned of yesterday’s...incident. It certainly helps that the shroud of Stalin’s death covering Moscow has made it easy to turn reporter’s away, although the fact that those that don’t comply have a tendency to go missing has helped as well.
The committee has assembled for another day. There is much to do: Stalin’s funeral must be planned, his estate handled, and the public soothed, on top of all the other million jobs that must be done each day to prevent the collapse of society.
Two members have failed to attend the morning meeting. Their absence has been noted in the minutes (but the obscene jokes at their expense remain unrecorded), and the meeting commences without them. However, when they fail to turn up for breakfast the worry begins.
As if waiting for consternation to reach a certain volume, an aid appears. He nervously enters the room.
“Um”
“Spit out, boy. Or did your tongue get sent to the Gulag as well as your mother? Hur Hur Hur”
Going redder by the moment, the boy stammers out the news:
“C-c-comrade Molotov, sirs, h-h-he’s dead”.
In the grim silence, military police are dispatched to investigate. LastWhisper, Vyacheslav Molotov was murdered in his apartment, shot from close range. A staunch party loyalist, his loss ripples through the room. The conspiracy everyone always suspected is real, and this is very bad news indeed.
An hour later, Wheat_Grinder, Anastas Mikoyan’s corpse is found in an alleyway, his hands bound, and a bullethole straight through his head.
There is a lot more vodka poured into coffee than usual this morning.
LastWhisper has been killed. He was Vyacheslav Molotov - Minister for Foreign Affairs, Town Tracker.

An Old Bolshevik and key Soviet diplomat, noted for your work negotiating with both the Germans (in 1939) and the Allies (in 1945) in your post as Foreign Minister. During this time, the people of Finland lovingly named the cluster bombs dropped on them as “Molotov’s Bread Baskets”, and generously invented a cocktail to go along with them.
However, your relationship with Stalin was becoming fractured, and with his public disparaging in a speech to the Party Congress you feared your days were numbered. His death is therefore a timely tragedy, but despite yourself you remain loyal to Stalin and Stalin’s ideals - the conspiracy to undermine his great work must be repelled!
Abilities:
As a diplomat and Foreign Minister, you have a number of useful connections. Each Night, you may dispatch agents to follow a chosen player. You will be told who this player visits (if anyone), but not what they do.
Wheat_Grinder has been killed. He was Anastas Mikoyan - Minister for Trade, Vanilla Town

An old-school Bolshevik, you have made a career out of resilience: gaining prominence under Lenin, and continuing to rise under Stalin to your current post. However, you have begun to fall out of favour with Stalin, which is a very risky situation indeed.
His death comes, therefore, as something of a relief (of course, only very privately) - but only briefly. You once again need to rely on your skills at picking the winning side and - importantly - not getting killed in the process. This current conspiracy is not that side, and if you can demonstrate your value to the party in rooting it out, you stand to gain even more than you have before.
Wisp I am sorry I voted you, it was a bad vote, I am embarrassed about it, I am sorry we won't get the chance to play together because I remember from turbos that we made a pretty great team. As I read during the night I realized you were definitely town and I felt stupid about my vote. You were right, I had no clue why your EoD made sense, I was just doing my best to try to identify who was having a bad EoD and I got it wrong. I was never going to vote you today. Sorry you are dead and hope you are reading this.
And Wheat. UGH. Okay. I didn't have a strong townread on Wheat but I had a townlean and I really wanted to work with Wheat today.
I am assuming one of these is a vig shot which is REALLY ANNOYING because I would not have shot either of them.
And because I know I'm not allowed to make more than 3 posts in a row, I'll chill for a bit, but I wanted to say, first of all, Gemma, I am glad you are alive because I felt so bad reading day 1 and seeing how you were going insane and constantly complaining that no one was around to interact with you. I think your posts are amazing and I wanna talk with you about everything, and I'm sure we will.
Also I wanna say that Reg's posts are amazing too. Damn. I have big shoes to fill. That guy's posts were so good. The level of analysis that both of you bring is just astounding. I'd heard of both of you but never seen you before and I am just impressed.
So my agenda for today is:
- I am going to make a post reaffirming why I townread both Gemma and Shadow (because I still do)
- I want to make a post about Nancy Drew, because I don't think she is scum
- I want to talk about Rhand because I do think he can be scum, but I'm not really sold on it
- I think KJ is suspicious and I'm going to vote him and explain why
- I don't see anything towny about Vaimes and I want to talk about that (particularly with Gemma with Shadow)
My general PoV coming into the day is something like this:
TOWN
Gemma, Shadow
TOWN LEAN
Nancy, Sheep
MAYBE SCUM?
Lissa, Rhand
TO BE LOOKED INTO
Killjoy, Vaimes
Will go more in-depth soon, and once I've gotten that all out of the way, hopefully focus more on real-time interactions. Again, I feel a bit embarrassed about EoD, and I apologize for that. I think I try to do too much sometimes and I always end up wasting time on things that are not needed.
KoolKoal: Feel free to take this with a grain of salt since self meta isn't particularly helpful, but I think I get scumread mostly for style over substance, but also for a certain lack of substance over style. It's not so much what I AM posting most of the time (though sometimes that can seem bad) but what I'm NOT posting. I've been told I come to non-obvious conclusions a lot, so when I post, quite a bit of the time there's jumps in logic that people can't follow and they think that's scummy. I get that accusation about a lot of questions I ask specifically. People call them "busy work" when the questions are legit etc.
As far as things to ignore, I can't think of anything. I would suggest you focus less on what I'm doing and more on how I'm doing it. That's probably more likely to be accurate. Like I've just said, what I do tends to come off a little weird, but if you look for how I do it, mindset comes into play and maybe you figure out something useful.
Okay, so first of all, Gemma has made some amazing analytical posts that I have to give credit for. She really dives in and tries to understand a player’s mindset in a way that I think is hard to fake. (Examples of this are 97 with her townread on LW, and a brilliant scumcase against Rhand early on in 120)
She later goes on to explain her exact PoV behind the Rhand scumcase in the monsterparagraph which is 303. This is a great explanation and does a good job showing her mindset, and I don’t think it delves too far into “look at how townie i’m being”. (Especially considering its written in hideous unreadable format)
Another place I think we can see Gemma’s process really well is in how she interacts with Reg. She starts questioning him on stuff around 393 while he’s around, picks up again around 935 which goes all the way through the next two pages. I think these posts show that a) Gemma is forcing Reg to take stances (as per her own explanation of her playstyle) b) Gemma is genuinely trying to solve the game with the help of someone she respects and c) Gemma is truly trying to solve Regfan.
You can see her interacting with Shadow in a very similar way in 537. She shows real doubt here by calling him a “lockbox” but still tries to work with him, because she wants to solve him. Note that Vaimes, Shadow, and Reg are all people she’s expressed disappointment about them not giving her as many reads / as much attention as she’d like. With Shadow in particular, she goes back and forth so many times, and I have a really hard time seeing that as fake. (And definitely not w/w)
I also think she does a great job trying to explain her… uh, less analytical reads. 202 is her explaining her toneread on Shadow in great depth, and then ultimately being like “well uh its just tone so whatever” which I think is a good look – it’s a natural explanation.
Personally, I think Gemma’s weirdness doesn't feel forced at all. I don’t think she just, like, randed mafia and decided to put on a show. There are so many posts of hers that are, well, really fun, and seem totally natural. (Example: 459) I also think her reactions to people commenting on her weirdness make a lot of sense and show that she isn’t self-conscious about it any way. (Example: 205) Call this partially a gut read - I've played with a lot of eccentric townie players, and many who have tried to fake it/overplay it as scum, and this just feels like the former. I think I'd notice if she was forcing it. (Like I thought Roz might be - though I was wrong)
The main thing that made me just instantly read her as town is 1003, which is an amazing post with great reads on a bunch of players, and they all make perfect sense for her progressions throughout the day.
Like I said yesterday, I love that Gemma ultimately came around to Reg being town. Yes, I have extra info here, because I know Reg’s allignment. But the point is: she had every opportunity to read Reg as scum. Every opportunity. It would have been easy. And instead, she ultimately comes around to a townread. The post I like the most is 909 where she basically admits that Reg’s posts have been towny, its just his lack of activity (likely due to IRL stuff) that is holding him back, and I think this is a great analysis that no one else really showed.
Some other reads of Gemma’s I particularly liked:
- Good continued suspicion onto Rhand in 307, noticing his lack of reads/progression. (I also have 443 noted, though I noted it more because I disliked Gemma's lack of answering Rhand's question I will admit. Will talk more about this in Rhand post)
- A great townread on Sheep in 311 that completely echoes my own thoughts
- 593, she makes a point that LW has too many scumreads and isn’t doing anything with them. LW is town, but this is exactly what I felt about him near EoD, so I give mindmeld points.
i'm sure we'll talk a lot in 2 days, and if you are town, we will work it out (especially because my team is uh strongly encouraging me not to suspect you)
also yeah that first quote is from when i had read, like, less than 5 of your posts. i actually had some doubts yesterday but there were 1 or 2 posts i liked, and in my full reading, i uh... couldn't find anything besides (i think) those same 2. i'll write you some stuff for you to respond to, and like i said, i wanna see what gemma and others have to say
my biggest thing is that I really dislike how you came to the opposite conclusion as gemma about reg. because i think that it's really really easy to push reg because of IRL stuff, and I think that both you and gemma seem to know reg really well, but gemma actually put in the work to solve it, and you seemed to be just okay with writing it off as scummy. I think that pushing Reg there is really easy and I'm wary of anyone who did it. (I think it was mostly just you and Shadow - but I think Shadow is town. others included reg as scum but it was more of those weird association reads with gemma/shadow which make no sense but aren't quite the same as pushing him for his enthusiasm level)
i know its silly to talk about my own slot like that, but i feel less like I replaced reg, and more like he's just a player in the game that I have a green peek on so I can read into how people interacted with him. i hope that is okay lol because i realize its basically like just calling myself town.
For future reference Wheat_Grinder, votes require a space between the colon and the target, but your vote is counted at this stage because the intent is clear (and LW's vote to 6 was enough to lynch given Nancy's non-voting).
Stand by.
i've never seen that before
Also I'm on mobile because this deadline sucks
Granted, Roz is probably the type of player to twilight troll just cause I want to know.
He radiates benevolence
i also hope it was right
i'm not really sure how i feel about this lynch in its own right but we'll see
We should have had an extension
from what you quoted
WHAT. Gemma scum with shadow and regfan? are you kidding me?

the fact that more people are saying rhand is a wolf makes me really hope i got that right, but i'll be sad if we could've lynched him and didn't
...twilight is weird
Also if Rhand is Mafia he may be with Regfan/dels

I don't get it. Wheat spent that EoD defending Roz in such a pure way and his reaction to me seemed very unlikely to come from scum.
I was planning on spending today working with Wheat and people saying I was being pocketed and me being like "nope wheat is town"
(I admit I'm TMIing here because I didn't have wheat as locktown before this flip but now that I know he is it just makes me angry)
I'm sorry Wheat =( We could have been a great team
Vote Dels
In the meantime I look forward to seeing your thoughts on the entire game, Dels.

my biggest thing is that I really dislike how you came to the opposite conclusion as gemma about reg. because i think that it's really really easy to push reg because of IRL stuff, and I think that both you and gemma seem to know reg really well, but gemma actually put in the work to solve it, and you seemed to be just okay with writing it off as scummy.
Dels why did you prioritize talking about Gemma?
This never happens, guys.
Dels I love the way you're playing here.
