what makes that a good answer? it shows motives with the vote, but he never followed up with questions.
It is a good answer. It's how my rvs votes work. And, indeed, many of my votes after rvs.
Votes don't always need explanations. Sometimes you just want to make them.
Based on this answer, I'm taking mikey to be someone like me and I am therefore waiting for what he does choose to explain as that is much more useful than trying to guess at every little thing.
#145; Is being bad at maths really an indicator? Please explain.
#146; Good to know.
It's not that he's bad at math, it's that 11% is one out of nine. This means that Mikey thought there was one scum in the group and he applied that to the (incorrect) amount of others.
Why would he think there is one scum remaining? It's an open setup, everyone knows exactly how many scum there are, two. Mikey knows who one is, and did a 1/9 instead of a 1/8 for the other, accidentally.
A number typo could happen, but that number is so off from just a typo that I believe something else led to it
the way this is going to work, no answer, made up or truthful, will be satisfying enough. I... don't know why I thought there was only one mafia and saying I thought there was only one mafia isn't accurate, because I knew it was 2 to 7. I guess I just forgot for a split second.
Incidentally, the correct math for me to apply here would leave a 25% chance that shadowlancerx is a wolf. Given I was willing to bet on 11% you can bet I'm ecstatic about 25%

Like I’m not getting the “Vote just because I want to vibe” from Mikey’s post, more the “I vote only with meaning” mentality, which seems like the opposite.
You forgot for a split second? Didn't you just say in your last post you had not even realized that it was wrong until just then, a full day after you made the original post?
It was the "vote to kill" with no explanation.
Maybe I'm assuming too much, but like... doesn't that sound like something I would say?
I will laugh if statistics tell is real though
You would say that, but I feel like many of your votes are not actually because you want to lynch that person. I dunno, I just feel like what he said and how you’re interpreting it are =/=
here's the problem with using it as a tell- I was counting myself in the statistics. If I had to guess I'd think my subconscious decided they were one of nine players and therefore a one in nine chance of being scum
if I end up dying over it I will surely be upset because I feel like otherwise I've been doing a good job being towny, and I feel like there are a few much better day one lynches than an ambiguous math error that may or may not be alignment indicative :^)
I didn't realize 11% was wrong until now, my mistake
kids 1/9 is 11% ehehehe
This joke does not feel natural to me, though I'm not sure I even could explain why
And pulling the noob card at the end of this post is noted
I don't see myself pulling a noob card
I'm saying I may very well get two of you mixed up because there's a lot of information I have to keep separate

Oomph. Either this is a slip or something something noob card.
and you'll have to cut me some slack here I'm brand new and finding it hard to store 8 different names of people who all toneread exactly the same still
Can you clarify for me, have you played mafia on a forum before?
Do you keep a list of players or notes for yourself at all?
Hey everyone, I dislike self-meta as an alignment tell even more than I dislike meta-only reads so as much as Phraze or someone else might push you to provide self-meta, I'm probably never going to townread you based on self-meta.
how do you intend to dive into someone's mindset then? different players will execute different strategies according to their playstyles, and if you don't know what their playstyles are like you will be reading off your left foot. it isn't an alignment tell, but it is informative and shouldn't be ignored.
on a side note, I have Tom, Emcee, and maybe you for scum. Tom is looking for faults rather than the reasons behind an action, Emcee switched votes without a reasonable followup(whether in questions or not), and you seem too judgemental and/or well-established to be town.
Hey Phraze, have you figured out my meta yet? Have you figured out my alignment correctly in this game yet? No to both? Oh well.
By the way, what the heck do you mean by "judgmental and/or well-established?" Also clearly only someone thinking foolishly would say I'm judgmental. I pity the foolish thoughts. (/sarcasm)

I've played a lot of forum mafia. I don't keep any notes of any kind because I stick to the same forums and I just know everyone at that point.
@vezok sorry man you don't catch wolves by their slips. It's town's job to act towny as well, so look for something else It's true though- I think I'm doing a good job being towny (self critique).
if vezok and osie are human (because only a human would compulsively be looking for slips) and anak and tom are human because of the way anak was asking tom questions, that means the wolves would be in cantripmancer, rumanshi, shadowlancerx, and dawningbluesky
right now rumanshi looks actively bad to me, coming in with a post that feels like he already thought he was under pressure. Wolfy.
cantripmancer looking actively good to me whenever he came in (I felt like it was late)
shadowlancerx is still pretty null, but they've been doing activity. It seems they've been pretty invested in me since the beginning of the game. Not sure how to take that.
dawningbluesky hasn't been as active as the rest of us I think. Either that or I don't remember them posting more than a handful of times. I consider that wolfy too, so right now my wolf suspicions are rumanshi and dawningbluesky

Not sure. I do know that she's normally more active by this point, but that doesn't mean much.
@Osie: Why don’t you think it means much? Have you played with Dawning as both alignments now?
Nah, but the first part just feels like her, not alignment-specific.
The second part feels rand!scumlean but isn't enough to push her anywhere past other leans/reads, even combined with relative inactivity. It's still early.
@Mikey: Why does Anak asking Tom questions mean Tom is town, is there any other reason to that read?
~~~~~
@Dawning: Top 3 reads?
pretend anak is a stereo. Pretend tom is a wooden plank. The stereo makes "towny" sounds. When it hits the board and bounces off, they continue to sound "towny". In the same way anak's questions bouncing off of tom feel towny- I would say the stereo and the board are both towny in that instance
anak and tom are human because of the way anak was asking tom questions...
1) Can you explain further how Anak's questions to Tom make Anak town?
2) I asked you two questions in 131, but I only remember seeing a response to one? Why would you "hate" finding something that you think makes a player town (in this case, Osie's use of Tennant gifs)?
3) I re-read 109 and I'm not sure I understand what you're saying regarding being afraid to declare something NAI; can you clarify?
@Shadow: Per your "in a vacuum" explanation, does that mean that you feel like you know something about/are familiar with every other player in the game? That qualifier is still striking me as off.
I actually like that you’re asking though, I kind of think you wouldn’t notice something like this as scum.
Quote from Shadow »
Talk to me about Osie, aside from looking like himself, what do you see that strictly comes from town!osie? FWIW, Osie’s first scum game I made kind of that same assumption and got wrecked (that game had some other stuff in general that made it not so good, but the point is I had a terrible read on Osie).
I guess I'll take your recommendation for caution (even if I take it with a grain of salt), but Osie just sounds sincere. That early read list didn't sound constructed or posturing...most of their posts feel lacking in agenda...I guess it's mostly a gut read atm. Probably based on how guileless he was in Avalon. Which game did you get burned by him in?
It's not that he's bad at math, it's that 11% is one out of nine. This means that Mikey thought there was one scum in the group and he applied that to the (incorrect) amount of others.
I don't think Mikey's math is alignment indicative, but I continue to be happy with my vote on you for how hard you're pushing it as scummy.
@Tom: Come join me in lynching Anak; it'll be fun seeing scum nitpicking backfire.
Oh, and @Osie: out of curiosity, what quote of mine did you base your Two Takes It play off of?
@cantrip: I have played with every other player except Mikey, though I wouldn’t say that’s the relevant info to why I say “in a vacuum”. The phrase is more of a qualifier I use to denote “average play indicator”. Basically “ignoring any specific player meta, this action pings me as a townie action”. Hence why I asked for his background.
WRT Osie, Two takes it Mafia.
Of course I’m trying to pocket you, that was my plan since the sign up thread *cough cough* I mean, nothin’
Actually talk to me about Mikey, if you ignore Anak’s push on him, what’s your read; still holding true? (I’m assuming that’s a factor)
think it looks more like trying to find something that fits the opinion he gave than an actual assessment of either of us.
Like, don't feel like I've echoed anak. Or even particularly responded to him.
Mikey did say something before about a mentor relationship between us. I... wasn't sure which way he meant but it's not totally wrong either way really. So that may be part of it.
Even if so, it's more shoehorning. I guess that counts as "forced"
anak and tom are human because of the way anak was asking tom questions...
1) Can you explain further how Anak's questions to Tom make Anak town?
I consider it a small scale 1v1, anak with tom. Anak's questions are phrased in such a way that answering them is beneficial for both anak and tom. I really can't explain it all that well but it's something that consistently looks good to me. Anak's role in the exchange between the two of them is to force tom to think about things. That's towny behavior. You're forcing activity without saying all boringlike "we need moar activityy".
2) I asked you two questions in 131, but I only remember seeing a response to one? Why would you "hate" finding something that you think makes a player town (in this case, Osie's use of Tennant gifs)?
judgemental/well-established means that you seem informed and are trying to flaunt it. it's more a behavioral observation than a personal attack. your entrance looks too confident to be town.
I think this is my 3rd game on this site, and I was fairly inactive in all of them by 'now'. different phaselengths, different approaches.
end of post: might take Tom off the suspect list. Osie/Emcee for scum.
Be grateful, always."
