Wendy:
Now now, that’s okay. What use would a big shot like yourself have with an old lady anyways?
???:
It’s not like that-
Wendy:
Hah! I’m just yanking yer chain. I’ve got to get my kicks while I’m still around, y’know.
???:
I’ve really missed talking to you.
Wendy:

Wendy:

So tell me, how have you been?
Wendy:
Oh, you know me. I’ve had my hands full putting these whippersnappers in their places.
???:
You always did have a penchant for sticking your nose in other people’s business.
Wendy:
You’re one to talk! Is that all you called me for, to tell me that?

Well no, actually. I called because... there’s one thing that I really need to say to you.
Wendy:
And that is...?
???:

“Goodbye.”
*BANG*
Another day, another boring day in the office.
Phoenix was awakened by the blaring sound of his alarm clock and quickly showered and began to get to work. He still hasn't found a house all of these years, preferring to sleep in one of the spacious couches in the Wright and Co. Law Offices. As he drank his morning coffee and poured over an interesting legal novel, he turned on the TV and began watching the news.
"A serial murder case is on the loose," the TV broadcaster reported. Piqued by this, Phoenix turned a tab in a page of his book and pushed it aside. "This morning, a security guard by the name of Wendy Oldbag was killed by a gunshot in the late hours at the KB Security Firm. Police are looking into the matter currently."
Phoenix spewed out his coffee and felt a small shiver down in his back. Oldbag was murdered? He recoiled a bit. While he knew that Oldbag wasn't the most pleasant of personalities, Phoenix hasn't had a acquaintance be murdered ever since Mia passed away. While anyone hasn't been arrested yet, Phoenix decided to look into things personally. As he finished up his mug of coffee, the newscast announced something else as well:
"The forensics team has updated us with the news of the Wendy Oldbag killing," the broadcasters said. "Police report that there was a tarot card left on Oldbag's body. What could it mean?"
The tarot card flashed onto the screen, clear to view.
Rules (inspired by Xylthixlm, stolen from Ged!)
[0] Please copy all PMs to Atogaholic and Prophylaxis, the two mods of the game.
[1] I will enforce the rules strictly, because I'm evil like that.
[2] Your vote must be in bold. You don't need to unvote before voting.
[3] If my vote count doesn't seem to reflect your vote, just revote.
[4] Once your death scene has been posted, you're dead. Dead people don't make forum posts. If you make a post after you are dead, I will hunt you down. For the record, I actually have a text file on my computer of all the people who've broken this rule in the past. I may or may not have plans for it.
[5] Post at least once every 48 hours. If you don't, I'll hunt you down. And prod you. After that you’ll be given at most another 48 hours or so before you are either replaced or modkilled. If you're going to be without computer access for more than 48 hours, let me know ahead of time either in the thread or by PM. Remember, people: if we work together we can have a replacement free game, but that can only happen with your help.
[6] No funny stuff like invisible text, tiny text, cryptography, or acronym claims.
[7] Don't edit posts.
[8] Don't quote PMs.
[9] You may not talk outside of the thread to anyone about anything that goes on in this game. Period. Whether you're dead, or they're dead, whether they're in the game or not.
[10] Have fun and be nice to the other players and me, even if we don't deserve it.
I reserve the right to modkill any player who breaks any rule [5] or higher. This applies especially to [9], but also note it’s application to [5]. I do not like making people replace into my games. I do not like spending time looking for replacements. I do not like slowing down the game while we go through this whole song and dance of looking for a replacement. Modkills circumvent all these things.
If you EVER have questions about the game, PM me. I love having more ways to procrastinate, and caring to your every whim is one of my favorites. If you are confused, curious, or unsure about anything ever, let me know before doing anything stupid.
Game-Specific Rules
This is a doozy, so please make sure to take the time to read all of this before playing.
[1] This game is split up into three phases: "Investigation", "Trial" and "Night". The Investigation and Trial phases are collectively referred to as a “Day.”
[2] During Investigation, instead of lynching, the players nominate defendants to be put on Trial. Each player has a number of votes equal to the number of defendants that need to be nominated to end the Investigation phase. For example, at the start of the first Investigation phase, each player will have 3 votes. After one defendant is nominated, that person's wagon will be reset. These votes cannot be stacked on the same person and must be placed separately. Once a defendant is nominated, he or she may not post in the thread for the rest of the phase.
[2.5] When unvoting, please specify the person being unvoted. (e.g. Unvote Atogaholic) Otherwise, we will assume you intend to unvote your most recent vote.
[3] At Night, players may take night actions as normal, but each player may also privately vote for players to become Jury members in the next Investigation and Trial phases. The players who receive the most votes will become the next Jury Members. Each player sends in their votes by PM, and may not vote for themselves. Additionally, players who were Jury Members in the previous phase are ineligible to be voted for.
[4] Initially, the game starts off with 3 Jury Members being elected and 3 Defendants being nominated every cycle. This is reduced to 2 Jury Members and 2 Defendants when the game reaches 13 players alive. When 7 players are alive, the game will turn into Kingmaker, where a single player is elected as Judge during Investigation and makes his or her decision during Trial. (Note that Jury members will count for the "Living players" total.) If the deadline expires during Trial, then the first person to be arrested in the Investigation phase will be the default lynch.
[5] During Investigation, Jury Members may not post in the thread and are given a special quicktopic to converse. This quicktopic will be made public at the end of the phase. During Trial, only Jury Members and Defendants may post. Each Jury Member has a single vote and may vote for a defendant to be lynched, which ends the phase. Jury Members may vote for a no lynch if they wish.
[6] In order to determine the initial Jury Members, there will be an Introduction phase before the first Investigation phase. This phase will last 48 hours and players may post but not vote. Afterwards there will be a Night 0 phase, where players may vote for Jury Members, but may not take other night actions.
[7] Please allow for possible changes to these rules. This setup has never been tested, and we reserve the right to alter them if we deem it is absolutely necessary. If you have any questions or discover any loopholes, don’t hesitate to notify us.

Most Investigation periods will be somewhere between 10 to 14 days in order to keep the game moving. However, there are three public deadline extensions available. These extensions may be requested by the players at any time in the thread, and may be granted at my sole discretion. Don't be mad if I say no.
You may only use one deadline extension per Investigation.
The options are as follows:
A: 96 hours
B: 48 hours
C: 24 hours
Trial phases have a strict deadline of 48 hours. If the jurors cannot reach a decision in the time given, the first person to be arrested will be lynched.
There is one trial extension deadline available for 24 hours that may be used when the jurors request it. Please use it wisely. Used up!
After the morning breakfast was finished, Phoenix left the office and took the bike from the small shed he had out in the back. Everything in Tokyo Los Angeles was relatively easy to get to by bike; Tokyo LA was congested with traffic problems which made it a bit problematic to go by car.
This time was a bit different, however; KB Security was a firm with its building near the freeway, so Phoenix pedaled the 25 minutes to the outskirts of the city and then called a taxi. He asked the cabbie to drive him to the security firm, at which the driver recoiled. "Wasn't that place just on the news? I just heard about it on the radio."
Phoenix flashed his attorney's badge. The taxi driver looked completely unimpressed, but Phoenix continued anyways. "I'm a defense attorney, so I'm going to start investigating the scene. The murder victim was somewhat of.. an acquaintance of mine," he said. Was Oldbag really an acquaintance? Phoenix didn't really know. He did know that she was completely insufferable on the witness stand, however.
The taxi driver gave a thumbs-up. "Got it, man," he replied, and he started driving to the KB Security offices.
There were multiple investigators in the room. It took quite a bit of jostling to get to the crime scene, but due to his time as an attorney Phoenix was quite experienced at getting into places he shouldn’t be. With some light fibbing, he managed to make his way to the scene of the murder.
On his way in though, Phoenix couldn't help but sneak a quick peek inside the ambulance parked outside the firm. He shuddered as he recollected what he saw.
As a security guard, your greatest joy in life was giving a hard time to defense attorneys, whether that be by needlessly preventing them from accessing the crime scene or just generally being as unhelpful as possible on the witness stand. That being said, you kind of managed to carve out your own niche in court, being able to always get your way amongst these young whippersnappers - a niche that has now emptied with your death. Whether that’s a good thing or a bad thing remains to be seen.
Welcome to Ace Attorney Mafia, ZeDorkSlipeur! You are a Town Pregame Death. You have the following special abilities:
Voting Abilities(Every player has these abilities):
1. During Investigation, you have X votes, where X is the number of defendants needed to be nominated to end the phase.
2. Each Night, you may PM me the name of another player you want to vote for as a jury member.
Trial Abilities(You do not start with these abilities. Trial Abilities are gained permanently when elected to the Jury.): Not-So-Young Whippersnapper: At Night, you may choose to activate this ability. If you do, you automatically win the game. Since you're already dead, this will never happen though.
Win Condition: Eliminate all threats.
A shiver went down Phoenix's spine once more. Oldbag may have been old, but she was always so... full of life. The thought of her dying in the blink of an eye gave Phoenix a feeling of deep unease.
As Phoenix began to investigate the crime scene, he accidentally bumped into a certain detective. "Whoa!" Phoenix yelled. He almost started to apologize when he looked up and saw who it was.
"Hey, pal!" Gumshoe replied. "Starting to investigate on your own, just like every time we meet up, huh?"
"Uhh.. yeah," Phoenix grinned sheepishly. He was glad that Gumshoe was on the case - he always was a big help for Phoenix and his investigations. It also meant he'd probably have a much easier time getting his hands on confidential case information.
"Before you start investigating, there's something you should know," Gumshoe replied, as if to prove Phoenix's point. "We just got a report from the Chief of Police." He pulled out some documents from his too-large overcoat. "The documents here say that Wendy Oldbag wasn't the first victim."
Phoenix was stunned. "WHAT?!" he yelled. Gumshoe gave the documents to Phoenix to look over.
"Y'know, I'm not exactly supposed to show this to you, pal," he whispered. "But the past murders all have one thing in common - a tarot card over their bodies. We've started to call this murderer the "Tarot Killer".'
It is now the Introduction phase. This phase will last 48 hours and players may post but not vote. Afterwards there will be a Night 0 phase, where players may vote for Jury Members, but may not take other night actions.

So I'm thinking we should pick the jury for day 1 based on how level-headed/careful a player generally is with their vote, and prioritize people that feel they have little to contribute to the game on day 1's, generally. Opinions and self-nominations?

I'll bet you wish you had a non-unglued/unhinged card that shared your first name.
I'm a pretty reckless player in general. But I get results. I'd like to be on the jury.
I'm not sure what your reasoning is for suggesting that we prioritize people that don't really contribute to Day 1, but I kind of like the idea because I feel like that'll at least give us something to analyze from them at some point. That said, I'm not comfortable putting someone on the jury that hasn't given me anything to look at before that point. So in theory, it's decent, but I think it's too up-in-the-air in early game to get much out of it for the risk we're taking.
Rather, I think we should elect the strongest analysts to the jury whenever possible.

Since the jury members can't join in the discussion to send people to trial, I think it would be best to keep strongest analysts where we can hear them, rather than make them sit in their quick topic while we ignore things they've caught on to. We'd be more likely to send town members to trial imo.
Though, thinking about this, there's 2 things that need addressing:
@mods: What will the deadline for the trial phase look like on day 1? A few days? A week? etc.
And how many jury votes does it take to lynch someone, a simple majority or a unanimous decision?

The Trial phase will be 48 hours long, with an option to extend the deadline by 24 hours. (The games stick to a strict three-day trial rule, after all).
Lynches are decided by a majority of votes. (2 votes in the first Trial phase).

hi all. i have discussed with my colleague, and i (tom) will be covering investigation phase
he, as someone with much more courtroom experience than i, will be covering the trial phase; be it as juror or defendant
so you all have that to look forward to
he would like to be on the jury as soon as possible, but if were looking for level headed jurors i fear my reputation may doom him
i know the source material a bit, but mostly just one of the games and a bunch of wiki-ing. my colleague, of course, lived it and should be fairly knowledgeable.
I have troubles wrapping my head around the concept and its concequences.
With the players that were jury members ineligible the next phase, we might have to be careful who we nominate when the game progresses.
Assuming none of these players will be up for lynch consideration...
I'd like Day 1's jury to be: Iso, Gentleman Johnny, Sir Chris
I'd like Day 2's jury to be: Cyan, Vaimes, Seppel
And then we'll see where we're at after that.
I think that'll be a great way to diversify playstyle while weighing analysis power into the mix. GJ and I rarely see eye-to-eye on our early reads, and as far as playstyle goes, Sir Chris and I are pretty flamboyant in contrast to GJ's more reserved style. I expect Chris and I will either be on the same page for whomever is on trial or on exact opposite ends of the spectrum, which will make the jury QT rather aggressive, I assume - but GJ will undoubtedly reel us in. I almost suggested Cyan and Sir Chris on the same jury, but if Chris is scum, he'd snow Cyan in without a doubt. Cyan being on a jury with me seems like the unstoppable force hitting the immovable object and probably not at all conducive to a constructive discussion towards a lynch. Seppel's unique take on analysis will put Cyan in check, and Vaimes will keep them both tethered to reality.

@Iso: Why do you pick Vaimes over other players to be on a Day 1/2 jury?
Also @Iso: Post 24 implies to me that Johnny wants to be the strongest player on the bench - It feels like he wants free reign of any jury he's on, and the proposed jury doesn't allow for that.
youll get used to it in general.
but in particular, i will be roleplaying in the trial phase and being myself in the investigation phase.

Because he's my scumbuddy, obv.
I literally stated my reasons for suggesting Vaimes in posts #7 and #18. Have you tried reading them? I hear that goes a long way in Mafia.

Hm, okay - I didn't read it that way. I thought he was claiming that Chris or I were also a judge character. I'm curious why that's your interpretation of it instead of assuming that he just doesn't want to deal with Chris and myself butting heads in a QT. He has expressed exasperation numerous times before at (at least) my playstyle.

Oh, that's really cool. Who's on the other end, if you don't mind my asking? Or is this part of your roleplaying? If you don't feel comfortable answering or think it's for the best if you don't, that's fine.

Your only sentence on Vaimes is that he'll tether the other two to reality - I don't know Vaimes so that means nothing to me, try again.
How would GJ be claiming what your character (or Chris' character) is? That doesn't make any sense.
As to why I interpret it the way I do: to me, it sounds like Johnny doesn't want strong players on the jury besides himself. I agree that he sounds like he doesn't want to butt heads, but to me it sounds like he'd rather be able to steamroll his decision through.

I understand that reading is hard but post #7 is really short and straightforward. Try again.
It's possible that he was attempting to breadcrumb some kind of knowledge on Chris's or my role or trying to set us up for a reaction test or whatever. I don't know what his motive is or what he was attempting to accomplish - I can only speculate, and that was the first thing that came to mind.
That's fine. I have another theory that I won't be sharing until later down the line. I guess time will tell!

Phoenix was awakened by the blaring sound of his alarm clock and quickly showered and began to get to work.
Rules
(inspired by Xylthixlm, stolen from Ged!)

Trial phases have a strict deadline of 48 hours. If the jurors cannot reach a decision in the time given, the first person to be arrested will be lynched.
There is one trial extension deadline available for 24 hours that may be used when the jurors request it. Please use it wisely.Used up!TokyoLos Angeles was relatively easy to get to by bike;TokyoLA was congested with traffic problems which made it a bit problematic to go by car.

Age: 65
Gender: Female
Eye color: Brown
Hair color: Grey
Occupation: Security Guard
As a security guard, your greatest joy in life was giving a hard time to defense attorneys, whether that be by needlessly preventing them from accessing the crime scene or just generally being as unhelpful as possible on the witness stand. That being said, you kind of managed to carve out your own niche in court, being able to always get your way amongst these young whippersnappers - a niche that has now emptied with your death. Whether that’s a good thing or a bad thing remains to be seen.
Welcome to Ace Attorney Mafia, ZeDorkSlipeur! You are a Town Pregame Death. You have the following special abilities:
Voting Abilities (Every player has these abilities):
1. During Investigation, you have X votes, where X is the number of defendants needed to be nominated to end the phase.
2. Each Night, you may PM me the name of another player you want to vote for as a jury member.
Trial Abilities (You do not start with these abilities. Trial Abilities are gained permanently when elected to the Jury.):
Not-So-Young Whippersnapper: At Night, you may choose to activate this ability. If you do, you automatically win the game. Since you're already dead, this will never happen though.
Win Condition: Eliminate all threats.

So who's familiar with the source material?
I have no familiarity with the games DoTArchon
So I'm thinking we should pick the jury for day 1 based on how level-headed/careful a player generally is with their vote, and prioritize people that feel they have little to contribute to the game on day 1's, generally. Opinions and self-nominations?

Though, thinking about this, there's 2 things that need addressing:
@mods: What will the deadline for the trial phase look like on day 1? A few days? A week? etc.
And how many jury votes does it take to lynch someone, a simple majority or a unanimous decision?
Lynches are decided by a majority of votes. (2 votes in the first Trial phase).
Elect me to jury once and the benefits will be yours!

he, as someone with much more courtroom experience than i, will be covering the trial phase; be it as juror or defendant
so you all have that to look forward to
he would like to be on the jury as soon as possible, but if were looking for level headed jurors i fear my reputation may doom him
i know the source material a bit, but mostly just one of the games and a bunch of wiki-ing. my colleague, of course, lived it and should be fairly knowledgeable.
I've played a couple of the games but never really managed to get through all of them, and it was a long time ago so I basically know ~very little.
I'm probably just going to vote for people I like to be Jury members. (y)
D_V for jury day 2.
I have troubles wrapping my head around the concept and its concequences.
With the players that were jury members ineligible the next phase, we might have to be careful who we nominate when the game progresses.
Let's do this.

@Vaimes: How many games have you played?
@Iso: Why do you pick Vaimes over other players to be on a Day 1/2 jury?
Also @Iso: Post 24 implies to me that Johnny wants to be the strongest player on the bench - It feels like he wants free reign of any jury he's on, and the proposed jury doesn't allow for that.
whoever i trust most for jury. i guess thats whoever i agree with most among my townreads youll get used to it in general.
but in particular, i will be roleplaying in the trial phase and being myself in the investigation phase.
urk... sorry...
anyway. if you have trouble with my fonts or colors, speak now or forever hold your peace

I agree that he sounds like he doesn't want to butt heads, but to me it sounds like he'd rather be able to steamroll his decision through.
i have a role, my colleague has a name.
we will both claim at our discretion.[/purple]
I understand that reading is hard but post #7 is really short and straightforward. Try again.
It's possible that he was attempting to breadcrumb some kind of knowledge on Chris's or my role or trying to set us up for a reaction test or whatever. I don't know what his motive is or what he was attempting to accomplish - I can only speculate, and that was the first thing that came to mind.
That's fine. I have another theory that I won't be sharing until later down the line. I guess time will tell!

I've read your post #7 three times now, Iso. Let me put it another way since you're being stubborn, why Vaimes instead of someone like Rhand?
@Vaimes: 50? I have 34 recorded games here: http://www.mtgsalvation.com/userblogs/wheat_grinder-blog/37846-mafia-stats-curse-sucks-edition, but I stopped updating it eventually. I think it's reasonable to believe I played another 10-15 games after that. I would describe my playstyle as inevitably lazy.
