Out of curiosity, which game did you remember me from?
I have no idea, I went back and locked couldn't figure it out. But the name was familiar enough to me that I definitely remembered seeing it floating around at some point.
So from lurking this subforum for the last month or two I know this is a thing you do, but I have to ask: do you really believe in the whole no lynch plan or is it just your way of posting in the RVS stage without showing bias to anyone, i.e. a "safe" random vote?
Nah. RVS votes are not relevant, and I am not that paranoid that I might give myself away if I were scum. If you have been lurking, you have likely noticed how heavy mass claims have been pushed within the last year or so. I am heavily anti-mass claim, so no-lynch feels like the most logical conclusion, especially day 1. The push away from godfather roles (they still exist, although sparingly) and other roles that force lying makes potential cop roles also much stronger, so therefore getting a shot like that off unscathed is quite strong.
Quote from Xyre »
I'm against Day 1 No Lynches always.
A shame. But I suppose everyone can't agree with my philosophies. Do be wary as "only Siths deal in absolutes".
One thing is for sure though. We are dealing with at most two negative forces, possibly only one.
I see D_V beat me to it, the sign up thread very heavily implied only 1 scum. So the question is, how do we root out the scum with no interaction analysis etc.
I strongly disagree with that sentiment. There might be loads of wifom in RVS, but it's not irrelevant once placed in the context of a few days worth of posts.
I'll throw you a bone, since it is strongly anecdotal, but I literally would roll a die as town or scum, to determine who to RVS, when I cared about that stage. So trying to glean anything from my posts would be a colossal waste of time, and I would suspect that most votes have no conscious or sub conscious thought to them, short of maybe the 2nd o 3rd pile on.
I don't see the point in massclaims myself. The reason they seem to be happening though appears to be a tendency to accept almost any claim, then moving on to the next wagon. Is the solution to that really to not hunt scum day 1 at all though?
I don't know if you played with Stormblind at all. But before my time, there was a point where mods gave scum roles that could be seen as townie. That seldom happens anymore. Read the end of Cyan's rant in XKCD if you want to understand, but people see mass claims as ways to break the game. It can work, and sometimes it fails, but it works enough that there are players who believe mass claims work.
I also don't know how you are getting no-lynch = no scum hunting. We have days to work with. I am only suggesting holding on claiming, even at threshold, and perhaps if a name does come up, we consider no lynching as a source of interest. However, the more I think about it, the more I am starting to think perhaps this isn't a great idea. If there is only one enemy, I don't see this as working too well.
@Bur Not sure of the benefit of that for the town, as we have a chance of outing any potential power roles, and its not like the scum is going to claim cannibal Shia. Why do you think that would be helpful?
I'm inclined to believe that there are 2 neutrals, potentially something like SK + Neutral Survivor? 1 vs. 7 does seem a bit stacked against the loner.
Not particularly any strategy. Just wanted to start a discussion on something that is not "Maybe this game has a cult that can only recruit people with odd number of letters in their name and they have a secret wincon that allows them to win with town if the only town members alive are prime numbers and then there's 3 hidden scum players".
I want to play that game where we analyse behaviour. Play mafia.

How does asking for a flavor claim follow your logic of wanting to analyze behavior? You are being inconsistent, disliking the setup discussion, and suggesting a flavor claim as a way to investigate behavior?
To me it looks like to are subtly trying to fish information from everyone, and when called on it are trying to handwave that away (the 'Oh I had no real plan for it' part).
Like I said, I didn't care what was the result. What I care is people's reactions and opinions about the matter. Why do they want to claim? Why do they not want to claim? Are their reasoning solid? Would town think like this? Would scum think like this?

Except you just described the game of mafia itself. We're asking why you want that action and why that action facilitates catching scum. All you're saying is, "this might work". That doesn't fill me with confidence!
I asked flavour claim since I wanted to a discussion about something relevant and not baseless speculation about the set-up. Flavour claim is a good way to generate discussion.
Discussion leads to interactions, interactions reveal things (especially after some flips).

Seriously advocating a no lynch at the first opportunity does go against scum hunting, as it doesn't lead to direct interaction with any other players. It is not at all the same as campaigning against a desperation lynch at the end of the day. (Though I'm well aware that my engaging you currently contradicts my own arguments. -_-)
I disagree. I think what you are discounting is reaction. By now, most scum understand tricks the town has: Massclaim, analysis, ect ect. Take something out of the blue, or out of a standard comfort zone, and you would be surprised at the hic ups that can be provided. I am glad that by forcing you to talk about it, you are at least trying to analyze what world I am suggesting it. Yes, I have done this many times, but I have had different motivations. In Classic, it was simply to blend in, in Animal, I had a role that didn't care about being roleblocked. Maybe you will figure it out, maybe you won't. But Xyre's reaction is more intriguing to me. In particular, his snap to meta. It isn't slam dunk enough, but will be something to keep an eye on.

I don't believe this for a second. Everyone, town and scum has a motivation for asking questions or inquiring about claims. My push was to see how people might react or see if someone balked (still might work). Unvote No Lynch, Vote Bur.
Bur seems to be struggling a bit. I wonder if we hit gold or not.
@GJ: I did have a motivation. "It's not the end, it's about the journey."
If we end up flavour claiming, that's fine. If we end up not flavour claiming, that's fine too. I'm more interested in how we end up to the result we end up.

Every game, some schmuck thinks of some sort of psuedo claim. I can't think that any scum player worth their salt knows how to react without drawing their attention. Try something more off the wall, like pushing a no-lynch
