I was brainstorming possible solutions to this problem while trying to fall asleep last night and the only thing I could come up with was a somewhat "Fantasy Mafia League" akin to a Fantasy Football League.
Players pick from a pool of players ranked by judges at the start of the season. As the season goes on, players get points for how their players did in the games being played and the judges adjust the strength of players accordingly. And during the season, players can trade people from their pool of players with each other to adjust their teams.
Could possibly be a bookkeeping nightmare, but I wonder if it'd be any fun.
2011: Best Mafia Performance (Individual) - Best Newcomer
2012: Best (False?) Role Claim - Worst Town Performance (Group) - Best Mafia Performance (Group) - Best SK Performance - Best Overall Player
2013: Best Non-SK Neutral Performance
2014: Best Town Performance (Individual) - Best Town Performance (Group) - Most Interesting Role - Best Game - Best Overall Player
2015: Worst Mafia Performance (Group) - Best Read
2016: Best Town Performance (Group) - Best Town Player - Best Overall Player
That sounds intriguing, though I'm not sure how it solves any of our current scoring (in my opinion) problems.
The idea was that players would have incentive to do well in their games so that more people would draft them and the people who did draft them earned points. The worse a player does over time, the more they'd fall in their rankings by the judges and the more they'd be traded away.
At the same time, if we believe that the scores even out over time despite a few anomalies here and there, having a team of five to six people would be more of an "average" on the rubric than just having an individual score for each person.

I'm ready to be done with the scoring system that is used here. There is just too much context in a game of mafia that such a scoring system can never take into account. Taredas replaced into Crosstown 2 for someone that did nothing, and then proceeded to similarly do mostly nothing himself, with the exception of a couple of late game posts that absolutely did not change anything.(This isn't meant to discredit your effort Taredas, please don't take it that way).
No no, I completely agree - I really didn't do much in Cross-Town 2, in no small part because there wasn't much to do - by the time I'd replaced in there was enough to clear all but two townies (given that I had Voxx's role PM) and we had four lynches to play with, so I didn't really have to do any work (I cased Iso at LyLo because I tend to double-check at LyLo - any other gamestate I wouldn't have bothered). (That, and I've had trouble sustaining activity ever since the end of Ultimate Showdown D1 - getting knocked out of a town groove is not good for me.)
Which does suggest one change to the League rubric - I think that as it stands the bonus for replacing in is too high, especially on later Days. (If not for that bonus, I'd be middle-to-bottom score in Cross-Town, which seems more accurate to me.) I'd suggest the following change for replacing in:
Points for replacing in:
+1 point per game day (minimum 1, max ??? - at one point per Day I'm not sure we need a maximum)
+1 point for replacing into a bad situation (mod's/judge's discretion)
(That still doesn't account for the other League scoring problem (it has real problems with PoE lynches on town, such as the Cyouni lynch in Cross-Town 2), but I'm not sure there's a way to account for when town is the correct lynch/vig in the League rubric.)
I have had myself lynched as a town vanilla for when I had a strong feeling the other person who could be lynched was a town power role. Getting penalized for that would be silly, though maybe you guys have some interesting rule changes from what I am used to where that situation would practically never occur.

You do know that you can edit a post, right?
The League Judges are trying their best to get the scoring system accurate to the game play. Lets just say that this has been a lot harder than most considered.
I'm still looking for a replacement for Voxxicus in Star Wars Mafia Night 2. Very quick read. Don't forget replacing in adds bonus points to your score total.
Hey guys. With the end of Star Wars Mafia, we are at the end of the Beta League season.
However, due to some personal medical reasons, I've been hit with a case of real life and am stressed beyond belief. Basically, I have enough energy for one mafia duty - continuing to host my ongoing game, and even then (if you have been following along), I had to get Annorax to step in and mod for me for a couple of days. I wanted to keep a running tally for Star Wars but I was not able to. I know I'm also lagging behind WWE finalized scoring (I believe no one contested the scores for Apocalypse). So, I am asking for assistance in scoring Star Wars Mafia. This could be from a League Judge or a League Participant (hint hint: if you wanna be a judge for the first season, this might be a good way to demonstrate your knowledge of the rubric). You won't be working in the dark. I'm available over AIM or facebook to conference with you while you score it and I will look over the final scores before we publish them.
If nobody steps up to the plate, it could be anywhere from three to six weeks until I'm personally able to score them myself. So this is a public asking for help so we can wrap up this Beta Season.
Rhand gets one point for every lynch he survived and every night kill he survived.
Proph gets subtracted points for every townie he vigged. (Did you vig any townies, Proph?) Scum also get points for every townie vigged since they were alive for a town death even if it wasn't by their hands.
Cops get points for successful investigations. Docs get points for every life saved.
2011: Best Mafia Performance (Individual) - Best Newcomer
2012: Best (False?) Role Claim - Worst Town Performance (Group) - Best Mafia Performance (Group) - Best SK Performance - Best Overall Player

I have double checked the scores by swishh (as well as made some modifications) and I can assure you that they are correct. Once Arnn finalized the scores we can move on.
LEAGUE TO DO LIST:
1. Finalize scores for WWE
2. Tally up scores for the Beta Season
3. Finish up player reviews for the season (is this too much work/too much hassle for the Beta Season?), award MVPS
4. Conclude Beta Season
5. Start up Season One and put up signups for Megiddo's Return to Ravnica Mafia
Arnn, can I get League subforum access? Do you have any other things in mind to wrap up the beta season?
Announcement: I am handing over my Mafia League Head Judge title to Prophylaxis, and leaving the MTGS Mafia League as a Judge starting from Season 1 onwards. I'm glad to have taken the reins on getting us started, and want to give a huge thank you to everyone involved in allowing the League to exist in the first place, including our rubric designers, Judges, League Secretary, scorers, hosts, and, of course, the players.

RTR is a normal but it will not be considered a League game. The League will be going on hiatus during it's duration so we can wrap up the Beta season and better prepare ourselves for Season One. Season One will begin after RTR Mafia completes.
Can someone please PM me when the season starts. I will potentially avoid playing any games but the league ones while I take a sort of break for my sanity. But I want to be a part of this.
With a three game requirement, here are the players that met that quota and their three best scores:
7hawk77: +30 (participated in 4 League Games)
Arianrhod: +6 (participated in 5 League Games)
Archmage Eternal: +27 (participated in 6 League Games)
Cantripmancer: +29 (participated in 3 League Games)

SharkFinnigan: +8 (participated in 4 League Games)
