In the small chance that a thread would garner more interest, I'm going to DM a 3.5 group if I get enough players. The specifics of what you'd like to see in the campaign are up to you.
Please quote this next bit and respond to it in your post, if you are interested.
What would you want as far as:
1. Setting
2. Starting Level
3. Homebrew
4. Power Level
5. Balance of Combat/Roleplay/Puzzle
6. Specific rules or rulings
7. Other?
Please, I'm open to anything, I need something to do My one stipulation is that you must check in regularly, or else the thread will die. If you put time into this game, I will. Seriously, I check this site about 9001 times a day, it's one of my homepages!
What would you want as far as:
1. Setting No real preference
2. Starting Level No real preference
3. Homebrew Homebrews are interesting
4. Power Level Don't quite understand. Do you mean 'difficulty'?
5. Balance of Combat/Roleplay/Puzzle Equal levels of combat and roleplay. Puzzles can be a moderate 'second', but those seem more like a special category under 'roleplay', since it can turn into a group effort.
6. Specific rules or rulings None
7. Other? None?
Sorry that the replies are lacking specifics. I've played a few times, but not enough to have a firm grasp on the categories.
I might be up for this if we get enough people. I was a little worried, since I've now joined two online campaigns and they have both died within a week of starting, but if people can actually post once a day, it could be fun.
1. Setting No real preference. The weirder the better though
2. Starting Level I prefer starting at at least six, since that is when sorcerers get fireball and I have a really nice sorcerer character I might like to use. Also, starting at levels this high lets us have better-defined characters.
3. Homebrew Homebrew what, exactly? If you mean homemade classes and such, I...suppose I'm for it, unless they're overpowered.
4. Power Level I don't like super overpowered characters. My sorcerer is good at burning people and that's all; I'm not a fan of time-warping wizards and junk. If everyone is happy with it, I'd like to see all the tier one classes banned.
5. Balance of Combat/Roleplay/Puzzle I like all of these things.
6. Specific rules or rulings My only specific thing is addressed in part four. I don't know quite enough about D&D to know what's overpowered at very high levels; I've never played above ten.
7. Other? EVERYONE. MUST. BE. ACTIVE. This is INCREDIBLY important to me.
YEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH <- That's for some people posting interest.
Regarding dying out, like I said I check here multiple times a day with very few exceptions, so the only way this could dye is if the players don't bother posting. Make sure to subscribe to the game thread(s), and go to your control panel upon logging in.
I too likep laying at ECL6, we'll see what everyone else thinks. Tier 1 banning... if the others agree.
What would you want as far as:
1. Setting-Fine with pretty much anything, though I'll let you know now if its steampunk/ebberon specifically, I'll probably play a robat (warforged).
2. Starting Level-Well, I was gonnnna say one, but that was 'cause I was gonna try to push for e6. Seeing that not working, anywhere below six.
3. Homebrew-Anything *you* use that is homebrew is fine by me, but I'd rather not players be bringing their own classes 'n such, 'cause I like to know what my party does.
4. Power Level-Mid or lower. What Nevinyrral is talking about is fine, def. no higher than that. I'd be fine with banning tier one, they're all classes I generally don't care for anyway.
5. Balance of Combat/Roleplay/Puzzle-Roleplay, combat, puzzle. Pretty much whatever is cool, though, not a strong opinion.
6. Specific rules or rulings-I wanted to see if I could convince someone of doing e6 in combination with gestalt. Barring that, normal rules would be fine.
7. Other?-Agree with Nevin. People need to post, and often.

Okay, only one more! I'm not familiar enough with e6 to run it, and I tend to dislike what I've seen from it anyways. What does everyone think of gestalt?
EDIT: I think that I'll be using published adventures that I own/free ones from the WotC site. is that fine by you? When we get an ECL agreement, I'll post the names of modules I'm considering, so you can let me know if you've played them before.

1. Setting I'm open to anything
2. Starting Level Ideally 1, but I'm not opposed to starting higher.
3. Homebrew As much or as little as you want. I'm no rules jockey, and the DM is always right.
4. Power Level I want to explore and innovate and be challenged a little, not be grilled by CR16 Dragons.
5. Balance of Combat/Roleplay/Puzzle 40/40/20
6. Specific rules or rulings Nothing off the top of my head?
7. Other?

This sounds very exciting. Sorry for the short answers, I was in a hurry to grab the last slot. If there is anything else you'd like to know, feel free to get specific.
Same as Shinen said, a forum DnD game would really suit my schedule. I have a high post count on mtgs and check the site very often, but my big "I have six hours of free time sunday" chunks of time go to MtG. Putting in enough time to read and make thought-out posts a few times a day is something I can do, though.
Weighing in on the tier 1 banning... are you worried our party cleric will keep us alive too well? Banning clerics and druids seems odd to me. I'll roll with it if it is necessary or healthy for the game, I'm an easy going guy... but I quite get it. Wizard, I can understand a little more, because they can mess up dungeons, one-shot otherwise interesting fights... etc.

Excellent, we have a party! (Honestly didn't have hope this would happen)
Now, most people seem non-commital on these things, which I take that I can do whatever.
The one thing that is essential is the starting level. I don't think I'll ban Tier 1, as long as people don't go overboard with them.
So far for level we have:
1-5
1+
6
-
5-6 - Me
I do so not enjoy DMing level one or two, as people tend to be very squishy, and the amount of encounters I can run aren't too exiting.
Shinen, would you be opposed to starting at level six?
Nevinrryal Ascendant, would you be opposed to starting at level 5?
We'll get this sorted out, then I'll make the character creation thread.
The signups are still open, I don't mind running more than 4 people. Don't be afraid, sign up!

I'm fine with starting at level 5-6. So far I've only started at levels 1 and 3, but I'm up for the challenge.
I've mostly played low lever characters, which is why maybe I don't grok the tier 1 thing. Much like Skullclamp, there is a big difference between reading about what what a level 20 Druid can do and playing as one. I don't think I've ever made it past level 7.

I'll be sad if people don't start calling The Chain Veil "Fleetwood Mac."

I do love me some gestalt. I'm up for that if everyone else is. But I'm equally open to playing normally, and that might be best if not everyone's familiar with D&D.

It has nothing to do with healing; we will need someone in the party who can heal us. The problem is the absurd spell selection. Clerics and druids, especially at high levels, can basically do whatever they want, at or above the power level of other classes. Remember, they know every spell ever printed for their classes, so by choosing the right setup at the start of the day, they can just blank certain types of encounters. Plus druids are annoying online because of managing the character and the familiar and everything else the druid summons.
If someone does play a cleric or a druid, I would request that they play nice. It's very, very easy for a druid to outdamage a fighter or a rogue, plus be way more resilient. Especially if we have fighters or lower-tier classes in the party....don't.
Nevinrryal Ascendant, would you be opposed to starting at level 5?
I might need to play a different character if we do, unless we level quickly. Sorcerers, particularly my damage-based one, need level 3 spells to be relevant. But I can play a different guy, if everyone prefers the lower starting level.
How are we constructing characters, anyway? I was assuming it was point-buy, but I didn't know if that was true or how many points we start with.
I'd reallllly like to play gestalt 'cause I've never got to, but I'd warn that if we get even one more player gestalt could get kind of op really fast.
Six is fine, as long as its below ten I'm happy with it.
And yeah-Promatim, I don't know if you've seen some of these classes when an attempt is made to take the power level all the way up to ten, but they get reallllly good. In a bad kind of way.

The thing about power level is, even if we do make very good characters, Talore can just crank up the difficulty of the battles we fight. He might need to award less than the recommended XP, but I would be okay with that.
Also...can we give it maybe another day and then close the signups? I like playing with a big party in real life, but online it seems like we'll really run into trouble with communication if we have too many.
Sure, I'll cut it off Friday when I get home from Debate Club/D&D (6PM-ish PST)
After that I'll compile a list of rules (based on the Big 16 @ GiantITP) and then we can review them. Then, the character creation thread, then gametime!
I get on when i can, and i am completly and utterly obsesed with d&d. My past few relationships and lost friendships can attest to that. bad thing is, i dont have my books avaliable right now. i do my online at a library, and only then when i get into town. i can promise you guys this, i will post everytime i get on here, though it miht not be the at least once a day thing you guys are looking for. But here goes:
I'm all for the gestalt thing, especially since, if i read this right and we would be doing 3.5, i usually try to go with a monk/fighter, since the restriction on classes isnt there for gestalts, they have a nice way of complimenting each other, especially with unarmed as the weapon of choice.
1. Setting - I'm good for just about anything, same as any good player. Its your world, i just live here.
2. Starting Level - I agree with the lvl 5-6 range for starters, especially for the builds i usually do.
3. Homebrew - Love it all. i have a few classes, items, stories, and other things lying around my crashed computer, and i love to play out of home drow
4. Power Level - Given enough time, gold, magic, willpower, and luck, power level isnt really that hard to deal with
5. Balance of Combat/Roleplay/Puzzle - Love the roleplaying aspect above all else, i'm an amateur writer, nothing published as of yet, puzzles next, then combat. And just because its in that order, doesnt mean i dont like combat. Its just the last on the list.
6. Specific rules or rulings - I'm a DM myself, not licensed or anything, but i love doing the stories, plot twists, and especially item creation. love int. items, magic items, even some of the mundane ones get shaped into something new, when the idea just pops into my head.
7. Other? - Probably plenty other to say, but then i would be rambling.
Eh, I'm reluctant, but as long as you commit to getting on as regularly as you can to posting. Be warned, if the game is lagging behind because we have to wait on you (or anyone, for that matter) I will control your character in your stead, so we don't die out.
Alright, thats fine by me, thats how my friends run it, and so do i. if a player isnt there, he gets turned into a NPC till he is there. but what about the problem of my not having my books? i'm going pretty basic, gestalt if we're doing that (we're doing that right?) just a plain monk/fighter, so i guess i would be a general agile tank.
Thanks, this one helps a lot. thinking of going with a goliath fighter monk. Would that work? i think they are just a 4.0 race, but it can work in 3.5 right?

They're a 3.5 race, in Races of Stone. Note they have a +1 level adjustment.
We've yet to have everyone's opinion on gestalt (I think) but I'm fine with running it if we want.
So i would be running a level 5 character, if we're doing EL6 right? And i'm just going to comobine usig srd and the gameologists, it eems to mesh well for me.
I do have a question though. For the Goliaths, their very nature is chaotic, but the lifestyle and the back story i came up with shows he was brought up to be orderly enough. How do u think i can work it in?
