"Women should keep each other company" is all he says at Karah with a snicker, to think he would be misunderstood as making a pass on her, for all her beauty, and certainly for a human she is beautiful, she is frail and and lacking in strength why if he bed her he would probably snap her in half!.
Turning to Vaihan he nods "Regardless, compromise must be made, I understand this codes sometimes require hospitality and a good meal and rest do they not? in that case may we not then call it a gathering and then say the meal to be a feast for times which will soon be better? appease both traditions and your honor, and hopefully get me drunk enough to stop me from insulting your brother further, surely it seems wise and more appealing to continuing this banter here in the snow" he finishes with a roaring laughter.

Call me old fashioned, but an evil ascension to power just isn't the same without someone chanting faux Latin in the background.
Oreo, Glazing people better than Dunkin' Donuts since 2009
That is not dead which can eternal lie. And with strange eons even death may die.
"Well darlings, I don't know about you but I'm going to lose a damned toe out here if we don't get inside," Atram interjects irritably, hands on his hips; "Do you have any idea how many Vecna cultists would want to get freaky with me then? It would ruin my whole clientele."
This character is kind of a challenge for me to RP. Loud and obnoxious when I'd normally be silent.
If you all are going to take the time to post, please couple it with some in-game banter.
Cyrus looked at the cautious kobold and smiled. "If we were intending to betray you, don't you believe we would have had a much greater opportunity when you were fighting the goblin hoard? It would have been much more to our advantage to be firing arrows and spells at your company, and then proceed to either mop up the remaining goblin infantry or watch as they ran for the hills."
Cyrus chuckled a bit before continuing. "We're not expecting you to treat us as valued friends and compatriots, but I certainly hope you can see that we're no more a threat to you than you are to us."
Hey guys, I'm back. Looks like I missed the death of Reynard. And we're meeting new NPCs. I'll try to jump in.
Ryttare had just finished cleaning her weapons when the knight appeared. She pulled her cowl over her face and kept silent, watching and waiting from the back of the group as he and his companions introduced themselves, as well as this new fellow, Cyrus. At Atram's snide remark, she finally steps forward.
"We waste time here," she said finally. "This is just the beginning of our trouble." She looked to Marcus, then Vaihan, then to Karah and Aris, finally to Cyrus, making note of their appearances. "The more the merrier--but we're turning from a party of warriors into a band, it seems."
She scanned the area again, craning her ears among the banter.
Sorry bout the delay. I've been (and will continue to be) busy until saturday or sunday.
Results:
Kosj's check: Unfortunately for the Kobold, the garrison of Sarez isn't important enough or long-lived enough for him to have any information about it.
Ryttare:
Ryttare hears nothing but the sound of the knights' horses breathing heavily, nor does she see anything of significance.
Vaihan nods as he draws his blade and slings his shield onto his left arm. "Let's go into the tavern. There might be some food. And I'm sure there will be a fireplace we can light. Marcus, Cyrus. Cover the entrance while we make sure the interior is clear. Bows and fire are of limited use indoors."
Vaihan, Aris, and Karah cautiously advance into the tavern's open door. It's obvious they've done this many times before. Vaihan advances first, his shield raised and his blade ready to strike. Aris comes next, crouched low behind Vaihan's armored form. Karah ghosts silently behind, her short blade drawn and resting easily at her side.
Everything scares me... kitties scare me... squirrels scare me... corpses....corpses bring forth a pletora of confusing feeling which i prefer not to dwell on...:p
Cyrus gave a simple nods, and his demeanor quickly changed. His visage steeled as he put his shield back on his arm, and scanned the area around him for any sign of hostile parties.
Marcus grumbles something to himself as he steps outside and draws his bow.

As Cyrus stands watch with Marcus, he thinks he might have seen something just outside the range of snow-reduced vision, moving fast. It was just a small flicker of shadow, but it moved strangely. Too fast to be a goblin, too small to be a horse.
It moved across the outside the entrance of the alley, going from the side of the tavern to the side of the houses.
Marcus' head whips in the same direction, and his bow is instantly drawn and aimed at the mouth of the alley. "Did you hear that, Cyrus? I heard something moving out there. Must be just out of sight range."
Vaihan and company's caution is apparently unwarranted. There does not appear to be anything inside the tavern besides tables and candles. Atram notices a closed door to one side, and Haldi sees that there is a raised counter that must serve as the bar. Ryttare, being a shadowy sort herself, spots several dark corners that must have concealed the goblin rogues before their sneak attack.
Vaihan sighs, then eyes the closed door with apprehension. "Lower level is clear. Not looking forward to climbing the stairs though. Easy to be ambushed as we walk up. Something could push a cabinet down on us and kill us all before we have a chance to avoid it."
Aris looks quizzically at the door, then in a sage voice says "Might be easier to lock it up instead of walking into a possible ambush. Give everyone a chance to catch their breath. I can cast a simple spell to hold the door in place until we're ready to go up, if that's what everyone agrees is the best course of action."
Everything scares me... kitties scare me... squirrels scare me... corpses....corpses bring forth a pletora of confusing feeling which i prefer not to dwell on...:p
Haldi moves towards the counter, his Scythe in an easy grip as it rests on his shoulder, he quickly gets around the counter and starts looking around for anything left to be had.
"If you need rest so be it, i dont see the problem with going straight ahead or taking some time" is all he says as he scourges the bar for whatever is available.
So if possible please consider this as a Take 20 (For a grand total of... 20! :p)

Cyrus hunkered down, holding his shield directly in front of him and his spear arm at level with his shoulder.
"I didn't hear anything, but I saw something swift moving just outside of my field of vision. I don't think it's some simple wildlife, so keep your eyes peeled."
Atram sways over to the door, gesturing towards it as if to announce to the rest its existence.
"Why don't we simply yell that if they don't come down the stairs, we'll set the building on fire?" He inquires bemusedly; "Goblins aren't the brightest in the bunch, we can turn our position to a strategical advantage. I could even get one started to spook them a bit."
"In my homeland we never battle those who have higher ground, they have a better shot at our necks" is all Haldi says as he continues to rummage around the bar.

Haldi finds several bottles, jugs, and/or mugs of alcohol of all kinds: Ale, beer, whisky, gin, and several unidentifiable brews.
Aris shrugs at Kosj and Atram. "Whatever we do, we should do it fast. Shouldn't give them a chance to figure out a way to kill us. Provided there are any goblins up there at all. We might be plotting for nothing."
---------------------------
Just as Marcus is about to say something else, both he and Cyrus see several more of the swift-moving forms ghost across the mouth of the ally-way, if only barely. They're moving too quickly and are too far away to get a glimpse of their forms, beyond "blurry" and "fast".
Marcus gulps and looks at Cyrus. "This can't possibly be good. What do you think? Bravely chace whatever that was down, or get my brother out here? He and I, on our horses, can probably move faster than any of those new guys in there."
Everything scares me... kitties scare me... squirrels scare me... corpses....corpses bring forth a pletora of confusing feeling which i prefer not to dwell on...:p
Haldi casually rests the scythe on the counter and puts the unidentified bottles and heavier liquor in his sack, he has heard of tales about those wondrous bags where infinite things can be stored but lacking that a backpack or sack is as good as anything.
Once thats done he looks at the others "Want some of the drink? I am putting the more risky stuff away, better try that later when we are in more hospitable locations"
Lifting his scythe once more he decides that all this doing little more than bore him so he decides to do what the rest are just talking about doing and heads up the stairs.
So do i need to roll anything?

Ryttare follows Haldi up the stairs silently and invisibly. As they arrive on the top floor, they see no enemies. There is a single, long hallway, stretching left and right from the top of the stairway.
On each wall of each hallway, there are five doors. At the end of the hallways, there are large windows, but nothing else. Torches dance in the spaces between every other door. All the doors are closed.

"Nothing up here, twenty closed doors will be moving to those now" Haldi calls downstairs before moving down the hallway, as he reaches the first set of doors he decides he should start with the door to his left, as he tests the door to see if its locked or not.
Everything scares me... kitties scare me... squirrels scare me... corpses....corpses bring forth a pletora of confusing feeling which i prefer not to dwell on...:p
"Well, sure beats arson," Atram says as he climbs up the stairs, then adds a warning; "At least some of these doors may be set with a trap. Best to have someone with clever fingers to investigate."
"Well then you all better start debating for an hour regarding that, i'll let you all know what i find" Haldi says with sarcasm as he opens the door to investigate the next room.

Nah, I'm a quiet guy. It's hard to think of things a loud-mouth would say, but I think to you as an example.

I can cast invisibility on her, and she can move silently up the stairs.
I was going to shout to them to come down and surrender if they don't want to burn alive, but this seems more sensible.

Each side of the hall has 5 doors. In both hallways.
The door is not locked. It easily swings open, revealing a smallish room but nothing more interesting beyond that.
